It takes inspiration from the balance of spice, sweetness and aromatic complexity found in the country’s culinary heritage. “I was captivated by the artistry of Indian cuisine, the way chefs balance bold spice with harmony, elegance and depth,” said Dr Emma Walker. “That sense of balance became my inspiration for this special Blue Label blend.” She added: “By layering aromatic notes of cardamom, clove and cinnamon with smooth sweetness and our signature depth of flavour, we’ve created a whisky that complements the richness of India’s festive table while remaining unmistakably Johnnie Walker Blue Label.” According to the official notes from the brand, the whisky reveals layers of fragrant cardamom and saffron, delicate rosewater and bright citrus, honeyed richness and chocolate-dipped fruit, all balanced by warm spices and a gentle wisp of smoke. The launch builds on last year’s collaboration with Mishra, continuing what the brand describes as a shared commitment to craftsmanship, creativity and progressive design. “The festive season in India is deeply rooted in emotion, generosity and togetherness,” said Rahul Mishra. “For me, true luxury carries meaning, preserving craftsmanship while creating lasting memories. Collaborating once again with Johnnie Walker Blue Label has been an opportunity to celebrate those shared values through design.” The release opens a wider festive campaign from the two partners. Consumers can expect a series of exclusive experiences, immersive activations and curated celebrations in the coming months. Johnnie Walker is owned by drinks giant Diageo and is the world’s number one scotch whisky. India has become one of the most important growth markets for scotch whisky globally, with the category continuing to expand rapidly across the country’s premium spirits sector.

The Macallan has unveiled the Carta Nautica Collection, a new series of single malt scotch whiskies inspired by a transatlantic journey of oak, craft and time. The collection debuts with two expressions – a limited-release 1987 vintage and a Global Travel Retail-exclusive 20 Years Old. Derived from the Spanish term for “nautical chart,” Carta Nautica traces the voyage of The Macallan’s oak staves and casks across the Atlantic Ocean, from North America to Jerez de la Frontera and Scotland, before finally arriving at The Macallan Estate. Euan Kennedy, lead whisky maker at The Macallan, said: “The Carta Nautica Collection is a celebration of journey and transformation. By bringing together casks shaped by different continents and climates, we have created a selection of whiskies that express both contrast and harmony.” Crafted by The Macallan’s Whisky Mastery Team, each whisky undergoes what the brand calls an “anomalous” maturation journey that reverses its traditional approach. The spirit first undergoes a double maturation in sherry-seasoned oak casks from Jerez de la Frontera. It is then transferred into casks that previously held bourbon from North America. The journey concludes at The Macallan Estate beside the River Spey, where the whisky continues to mature in its journeyed casks. The Macallan Carta Nautica Distilled in 1987 is the first in a new series of vintage releases. Matured over 38 years, the single malt is bottled at 45.2% ABV. According to the official notes from the brand, it carries creamy vanilla and caramelised peach, complemented by antique oak, with hints of nectarine, charred pineapple and soft leather across the palate. Every Kirkland Bourbon Ranked, From Worst to Best READ THE STORYThe Macallan Carta Nautica 20 Years Old is the Global Travel Retail-exclusive expression, bottled at 42% ABV. The official notes from the brand describe vibrant orange peel and creamy vanilla on the nose, joined by charred pineapple and juicy mango. Jaume Ferras, creative director at The Macallan, added: “The Carta Nautica Collection brings together craftsmanship, imagination and exploration, expressing the extraordinary journey behind the whisky and the mastery that shapes it.” Both releases feature artwork by American artist Amy Genser, whose paper-based works draw inspiration from the movement of water. The 1987 vintage is available through The Macallan Estate Boutique and other boutiques globally from 28 September, subject to availability. The 20 Years Old is available exclusively in Singapore Changi Airport Lotte Duty Free shops from 28 September, and globally at The Macallan Airport Boutiques from 19 October, priced at $800 (£593 / €678).

Diageo has revealed its annual ‘The Twelve’ by Casks of Distinction collection at Royal Lochnagar Distillery on Royal Deeside, presenting twelve of its rarest and most exceptional casks to an international gathering of whisky collectors. The event, held earlier this month in the shadow of Balmoral Castle, marked the first time the presentation has taken place at Royal Lochnagar, the home of Casks of Distinction. At the centre of the 2026 collection was Lagavulin 1991 Cask #1069, the oldest Lagavulin cask ever offered through the programme. The cask was unveiled as the ‘Twelfth Cask’, the single whisky chosen each year to represent the pinnacle of the collection. More than three decades in the making, the spirit was filled into European and American oak refill casks in late 1991. In 2007, it was transferred to a Pedro Ximénez (PX) seasoned American oak hogshead, where it matured for nearly two decades. According to the official notes from the brand, the whisky balances Lagavulin’s maritime smoke with layers of dried fruit, liquorice and charred oak, while retaining its powerful peated character. Stuart Morrison, Lagavulin master blender, said: “This is certainly one of the most special Lagavulin casks I have ever experienced. After more than 35 years, it still has remarkable vitality.” Every Kirkland Bourbon Ranked, From Worst to Best READ THE STORYHe added: “The PX maturation has added incredible depth without ever overshadowing the distillery’s character. It’s a whisky that reflects decades of patience, careful stewardship and the confidence to let time do what it does best.” The future owner may choose to continue maturing the cask for up to five additional years at Royal Lochnagar, shaping it into a 40-year-old expression. They will also be invited to Lagavulin Distillery on Islay for a bespoke experience. The wider collection spans distilleries including Talisker, Caol Ila, Clynelish, Cragganmore, Glen Ord and Linkwood. Highlights include a Talisker 1978 matured for almost five decades in refill American oak, a Caol Ila 1984 aged 42 years in a refill European oak butt, and a Blair Athol 1997 matured in a first-fill European oak ex-Sherry hogshead. Previous editions were held in London, New York and Singapore. Since its creation in 2023, every cask selected for the programme continues to be cared for by Diageo master whisky makers while awaiting sale or opening. Tod Bradbury, private client director of Justerini & Brooks, the private client division of Diageo, said: “‘The Twelve’ by Casks of Distinction is more than a showcase – it has become a decisive gathering in the annual whisky calendar.” Each cask is drawn from more than 10 million maturing casks across Scotland, selected following more than 4,200 hours of annual tasting by Diageo’s master whisky makers. Diageo is the world’s largest producer of Scotch whisky, with a portfolio that includes Johnnie Walker and a network of malt distilleries across Scotland.

Diageo has announced the launch of its latest ‘The Twelve’ by Casks of Distinction collection, comprising twelve of its rarest and most exceptional casks, including the oldest-ever Lagavulin to be included in the programme. The latest collection in the annual series, which was created in 2023, also includes casks from distilleries including Talisker, Caol Ila, Clynelish, Cragganmore, Glen Ord and Linkwood. At the heart of this year’s collection is Lagavulin 1991 Cask #1069 (57.6% ABV), the oldest Lagavulin cask ever offered through the programme. Initially matured in European and American oak refill casks, it then underwent nearly two decades of further maturation in a Pedro Ximénez Sherry-seasoned American oak hogshead. The result is a whisky said to deliver remarkable richness, balancing Lagavulin’s unmistakable maritime smoke with layers of dried fruit, liquorice and charred oak, while retaining the powerful peated character that has defined the Islay icon for more than two centuries. Its story is not yet complete. Under the guidance of Diageo’s Whisky Makers, the future owner may choose to continue maturing the cask for up to five additional years at Royal Lochnagar, potentially shaping the liquid into a historic 40-Year-Old expression. They will also be invited to Lagavulin Distillery on Islay for a bespoke experience, forging a lasting connection with the whisky’s birthplace. Casks of Distinction is the private sale of individual casks of rare and exceptional whisky from the pinnacle of Diageo’s extensive cask collection in Scotland, spanning nearly 40 of its most storied distilleries and a wide range of rare and varied maturation profiles. Drawn from more than 10 million maturing casks across Scotland, every Cask of Distinction is selected following more than 4,200 hours of annual tasting and assessment by Diageo’s Master Whisky Makers. Ownership includes opportunities for further maturation, bespoke distillery experiences, personalised bottlings and access to Diageo Private Client experiences around the world. The 2026 edition of ‘The Twelve’ by Casks of Distinction continues to cement its place as one of the defining annual moments in the world of luxury whisky collecting. The 2026 ‘The Twelve’ by Casks of Distinction, comprises: Blair Athol 1997 – Cask #1491: A 1997 Blair Athol matured in a first-fill European oak ex-Sherry cask. With an estimated ABV of 57.1% and an expected yield of 305 bottles, it brings a rich Sherry influence to the collection while showcasing the distinctive character of this Highland distillery. Caol Ila 1984 – Cask #5772: One of the older releases in the collection, this Caol Ila was filled in 1984 and matured in a refill European oak cask. At an estimated 51.2% ABV, it offers collectors a mature expression of Caol Ila’s characteristic Islay style, with an expected yield of 470 bottles. Clynelish 1990 – Cask #4514: Distilled in 1990, this Clynelish has matured in refill European oak for more than three decades. With an estimated ABV of 52.3% and approximately 410 bottles expected, it represents the elegant, waxy character associated with the Eastern Highland distillery. Cragganmore 1989 – Cask #2503: This 1989 Cragganmore has spent more than three decades in refill American oak with charred ends. Estimated at 50.8% ABV, the cask is expected to produce around 110 bottles, making it one of the more limited releases in the collection. Glen Ord 1987 – Cask #3351: A 1987 Glen Ord matured in refill American oak, this Highland single malt has more than three decades of maturation behind it. At an estimated 45.1% ABV, the cask is expected to yield approximately 146 bottles. Talisker 1978 – Cask #2824: The oldest release in the collection by vintage, this Talisker was distilled in 1978 and has spent almost five decades in refill American oak. With an estimated ABV of 49.9% and just 131 bottles expected, it represents a particularly rare example of long-matured Talisker. Caol Ila 1991 – Cask #1010: This Caol Ila has undergone a distinctive maturation journey, with a PX-seasoned American oak finish. Estimated at 55.8% ABV and yielding around 257 bottles, the cask combines Caol Ila’s characteristic Islay character with the additional influence of Pedro Ximénez-seasoned oak. Linkwood 1993 – Cask #13: A 1993 Linkwood matured in freshly charred American oak, this release highlights the impact of active oak on a mature Speyside whisky. With an estimated ABV of 50.4%, the cask is expected to produce around 180 bottles. Port Dundas 1991 – Cask #1005: A rare opportunity to own whisky from the now-closed Port Dundas distillery, this 1991 cask has matured in refill Spanish Sherry. Estimated at 48.0% ABV, it is expected to yield approximately 243 bottles, offering collectors a piece of Lowland whisky history. Glenkinchie 1991 – Cask #1017: This 1991 Glenkinchie has been matured in American oak with a Moscatel-treated finish, adding a distinctive element to the Lowland single malt. At an estimated 52.7% ABV, approximately 245 bottles are expected from the cask. Talisker 1992 – Cask #3228: A younger Talisker than the 1978 release elsewhere in the collection, this 1992 cask has received an Amoroso-treated American oak finish. With an estimated ABV of 60.8% and a yield of just 126 bottles, it is one of the smallest releases in ‘The Twelve’. Lagavulin 1991 – Cask #1069: Initially matured in European and American oak refill casks, it underwent a transformation in 2007, spending nearly two decades in a PX-seasoned American oak hogshead. At an estimated 57.6% ABV, the cask is expected to yield just 125 bottles. Commenting on the Lagavulin 1991 – Cask #1069, Stuart Morrison, Lagavulin Master Blender, said: “This is certainly one of the most special Lagavulin casks I have ever experienced. After more than 35 years, it still has remarkable vitality. The PX maturation has added incredible depth without ever overshadowing the distillery’s character. It’s a whisky that reflects decades of patience, careful stewardship and the confidence to let time do what it does best.” Commenting on the launch event for ‘The Twelve’ by Casks of Distinction, held at Royal Lochnagar Distillery, Tod Bradbury, Private Client Director of Justerini & Brooks, the private client division of Diageo, said: “‘The Twelve’ by Casks of Distinction is more than a showcase – it has become a defining gathering in the annual whisky calendar, bringing devoted collectors from around the world together to exchange knowledge and celebrate their shared passion for exceptional Scotch whisky. This year’s presentation really captured that spirit, as returning owners brought bottles from their own Casks of Distinction to share with fellow collectors, reflecting the very special community that has grown around the programme.” For more information on Diageo’s Casks of Distinction, visit: diageorareandexceptional.com Leave a comment

🔥 威士忌榮景已落幕:蘇格蘭蒸餾廠大幅減產

Google News(Scotch/Distillery)|原題:The whisky boom is over: Scottish distilleries are cutting back on production - logos-pres.md

The scale of the stockpiles is clearly visible at Diageo’s Cluny-Bond complex near Kirkcaldy, reports The Guardian. On the site of a former coal mine covering 220 hectares, a veritable ‘city’ of whisky maturation warehouses has already sprung up. Once construction of the new facilities is complete, the complex will be able to hold nearly 3 million casks. According to the Financial Times, the five largest alcohol producers hold record stocks of aged spirits with a total value of $22 billion. The problem is that it has become more difficult to sell these stocks. Following the pandemic-driven boom, consumers have cut back on their spending on alcohol. Rising prices and changing attitudes towards alcohol consumption are creating further pressure. The situation is already having an impact on the business. The GlenWyvis distillery in the Highlands has announced the appointment of external administrators amid ongoing financial pressure. At the Cameronbridge distillery, owned by Diageo, a strike has begun over plans to cut jobs. There are 156 distilleries operating in Scotland in total, and, according to industry sources, dozens of them may be put up for sale. Exports have slumped in key markets Exports of Scotch whisky in 2025 totalled around £5.3 billion (approximately $7 billion). The US market proved particularly challenging: following the introduction of additional US tariffs in April 2025, exports of Scotch whisky to the country fell by 15 per cent between May and December. In late April 2026, Donald Trump announced the lifting of tariff restrictions on whisky produced in the UK following a visit by King Charles III and Queen Camilla to Washington. The situation in key markets remains mixed. In France in 2025, exports of Scotch whisky fell by 3.6 per cent in value terms and by 14 per cent in volume. The Chinese market also failed to meet the industry’s expectations. Exports to India, however, grew by 15 per cent in both value and volume, though this proved insufficient to offset the decline in other major markets. The situation is complicated by the very nature of production: by law, Scotch whisky must be matured in oak casks in Scotland for at least three years, whilst premium varieties must be matured for up to 40 years. Consequently, the current reduction in output could lead to a shortage of whisky when demand begins to rise again. Following the crisis of the 1980s, when oversupply and weak demand led to the mass closure of distilleries, the industry is once again facing the same paradox. “When demand rises sharply again, they’ll find they don’t have enough whisky and will have to start all over again,” warns industry veteran Nick Morgan. 🔥 88年韶光:認識世界最古老的單一麥芽威士忌——Balvenie 與藝術家 Daniel Arsham 的合作

Google News(Scotch/Distillery)|原題:88 years young: meet the world’s oldest single malt - Apollo – The International Art Magazine

From the October 2026 issue of Apollo. On 5 March 1931, spirit distilled at Balvenie was filled into an oak sherry butt and laid down in its Dufftown warehouse in Speyside. Some 88 years later, in 2019, Malt Master Kelsey McKechnie judged the whisky ready and had it bottled. This year Balvenie released 17 bottles as the world’s oldest single malt Scotch whisky. The artist Daniel Arsham, also a whisky connoisseur, was asked to respond to the release by building the required vessel for such a rare liquid. He used oak, hand-painted bronze and copper cut from a still on the estate. Both artist and malt master intended to show the work that goes into the process of creating fine whisky. Or as McKechnie says, ‘Does [the whisky] do justice to those men and women that work with the distillery and their spirit, and does it feel relevant for the future?’ For McKechnie, blending is akin to sculpture or design, with smell, taste and a blender’s instinct just as important as the science. Arsham, who regards everyday objects as ‘future artefacts’, allows the materials to carry this argument by drawing on Balvenie’s archives to guide his choices. ‘Materiality conveys as much as the form,’ he says. ‘In my work I always try to use materials in ways that tell a story beyond just the way that they look, so the knowledge of the material tells you a story behind it.’ Arsham was interested in something beyond bottle design, which is constrained by the need to protect the liquid. He wanted to think about how to capture and preserve it. ‘This liquid is so precious that we need to house it in something that we know is going to last,’ he says, ‘I wanted to convey the preciousness of the liquid; the bottle sits in the centre like a relic uncovered.’ Balvenie retains a substantial archive on site, and handwritten records show the Home Malt Floor was also established in 1931. Floor malting is a technique used in the production of scotch where moistened barley is spread across the floor to germinate and turned repeatedly by hand to hold the temperature and control germination. There are photographs of the distillery team, the malt men and their dog, who would have been the very same craftsmen making this drink. To taste the oldest whisky in the world with its lively tropical notes, along with tobacco and cocoa and an extraordinary long finish of dried fruit, while the individuals who malted its barley almost a century ago stare back at you from a photograph, is a complicated order of contemplation. Precise capture and preservation of this liquid is its own miracle. The older a whisky, the more precarious its taste becomes because alcohol evaporates at about 0.5 per cent a year through what those in the profession call ‘the angels’ share’. Almost all Scotch is casked at 63.5 per cent alcohol by volume and bottled before the alcohol falls below 40 per cent – the legal minimum for a whisky to be labelled a Scotch. Distilleries are microcosms, with their own temperatures and levels of humidity that often interfere with intentions. Balvenie remains unusual for keeping key crafts in-house, retaining its own cooperage, aspects of coppersmithing and traditional floor maltings. Many of the materials Arsham used to design the case were already on site. ‘The barrels are used a certain number of times and then sometimes they’re decommissioned or taken down. If I’m going to make something that’s about a sense of place I can just make it out of material already there.’ This included a decommissioned still that ‘had some of the actual copper that created our whisky ready to go, and we thought: let’s bring that into the piece.’ What emerged is a sculpture-case, eight layers of hand-painted bronze, one for each full decade of maturation, 88 layers of oak and a copper disc cut from that Balvenie still, the bronze matching the texture and colour of copper in the distillery. The bottle is hand-blown and sits within an 18 ct gold engraved decanter, held by technical elements that display and protect it, answering ‘a design brief that is just a little beyond just the aesthetic’. The collaboration is important because Arsham breaks up some of the significant elements in the craft and making of whisky and recasts them to isolate one specific moment, be it the malting, the cooperage or the still. The superlatives of this whisky become a spotlight on the invisible but complex craft behind the beverage. Those who acquire one of the 17 sculpture-cases are taking away a piece of that microcosm; they take away the work of the hands – and the odd paw. From the October 2026 issue of Apollo.

🔥 蘇格蘭威士忌需求暴跌 釀酒廠紛紛停產應對「威士忌湖」過剩問題

Google News(Scotch/Distillery)|原題:On the rocks? Scotch distilleries pause production as unsold ‘whisky loch’ grows - The Guardian

Obscured by the Scottish countryside on the outskirts of Kirkcaldy, Cluny bond is, in effect, a small town built to store whisky. By the time the latest set of warehouses are finished on the former opencast coal mine, Diageo’s 220-hectare (544-acre) maturation campus will be able to store almost 3m casks of Scotch. The drinks multinational needs the space. After a 15-year boom turbocharged by the Covid-19 pandemic, demand for Scotch whisky has slumped around the world. Distilleries have paused production across Scotland to avoid adding to the glut of supply, known as a “whisky loch” – the equivalent of a “wine lake”. Last week, the community-owned GlenWyvis Distillery in the Highlands announced it would appoint administrators following sustained financial pressure in the whisky market. On Monday, workers at Cameronbridge, Diageo’s largest distillery, a short drive from Cluny bond, began strike action in opposition to the company’s plans to cut hundreds of jobs across its Scottish operation. Diageo produces about one in three bottles of Scotch globally, including popular brands such as Johnnie Walker. Dozens of Scotland’s 156 active distilleries are rumoured to be up for sale. “Strangely, Scotch has had a really good time since the 2008 financial crisis,” said industry veteran Nick Morgan. “But people have stopped buying at the crazy rates they had been. “People who bought whisky in the pandemic because they had nothing else to do realised they probably had enough at home for two or three years. There’s increased awareness of health issues, many are choosing to drink less, and booze got very expensive during the good years for the business.” Fluctuations in Scotch whisky’s £5.36bn export market have proven particularly hard to navigate. By law, the drink must be matured for a minimum of three years in an oak cask in Scotland, with high-end speciality Scotch being aged in barrels for up to 40 years. Such lengthy maturation periods, used to create a wide range of flavour profiles from sweet to sulphurous, can make it hard to plan production. Despite Donald Trump’s decision to remove duties on Scotch exports to the US after the King and Queen’s state visit to the White House earlier this year, the industry had already suffered a significant hit. The US president’s “liberation day” tariffs in April 2025 resulted in a 15% fall in Scotch exports to the US, according to the Scotch Whisky Association. Demand in France – until recently the largest market by volume – has fallen, while the market in China has never really taken off as hoped. Optimists point to early signs of a tentative recovery, however, with the industry returning to growth in the first half of this year. Exports to India in particular have surged – but have not yet offset declines elsewhere. The downturn is by no means limited to Scotch, either. Many drinks manufacturers are experiencing a post-pandemic slump, with five of the biggest publicly listed alcohol producers sitting on a record $22bn of aging spirits, according to the Financial Times. Holyrood Distillery, in the shadow of Arthur’s Seat in Edinburgh, is among those to have paused production while its owners wait out the difficult period. Its bulbous copper stills, which would usually be hard at work producing single-malt Scotch, sit idle. Co-founder Rob Carpenter says he does not know when that will change. “Anecdotally, my understanding is that the industry might be producing around a third of its normal level right now,” he said. “No one has a crystal ball, so nobody knows what is going to happen 10 years from now. You try to anticipate where things are going to be. It is a curse of the industry in a sense.” Unlike many of its rivals, Holyrood Distillery benefits from tourists visiting the Scottish capital. About 40,000 people each year tour the stone building, which is almost 200 years old and used to support the Innocent railway. The tours account for around half of the company’s current revenue. “It is not really that people have stopped drinking spirits,” Carpenter added. “[But] consumers are nervous. We all see what’s happening in the world. There is not a lot of predictability in things right now, and people are just being careful with what they spend their money on. This is a luxury spirit.” The current industry downturn is not new. In the 1980s, the Scotch whisky industry faced a similar mixture of weak demand and chronic oversupply, causing a flurry of distillery closures across Scotland. The rise of Japanese whisky producers, a global economic downturn, and overconfidence from a 1970s boom drove a prolonged bust. Today, few think the latest slump is the beginning of a permanent change in the industry’s fortunes. When Holyrood Distillery opens for tours, visitors file in, scanning through the single malts on the shelves. “Whisky is a waiting game,” said Morgan, who charted Johnnie Walker’s 200-year history in a 2020 book. “If you look at the data on sales, every time you have one of these downturns, it comes back higher. At the moment, the business is in the trough. I can pretty much assure you in five years time, when demand really cranks up again, they’ll find they haven’t got enough whisky, and they’ll have to switch everything on.”

🔥 加拿大威士忌叛者:不顧『加拿大因素』,英屬哥倫比亞工藝蒸餾廠的逆襲

Whisky Advocate / Whisky Magazine(經 Google News)|原題:Defying the Canadian factor: The West Coast rebels - Whisky Magazine

For decades, the 'Canadian Factor' was a shorthand for light, mixable, and affordable spirits, a reputation protected by the world’s first mandatory age requirements. But while 'Rye and Coke' defined a generation, it also built a glass ceiling that BC’s craft rebels are now shattering. For a long time, Canadian whisky has been known for producing smooth quality whiskies. In fact, Canada was the first country to put minimum age requirements on its whisky, a bold move to protect a status that had taken decades to establish. This created a category known for being dependable, light, smooth, and, above all, affordable. Rye became interchangeable with the term Canadian whisky, and an entire generation was practically raised on “rye and cokes” with no one ever questioning its quality of what was in the glass.  But when the cocktail craze of 2010s rolled around, something changed: Canadian whisky got left behind.  While the rest of the world moved towards powerful, bold and flavourful whiskies, Canadian whisky stayed mixable, smooth and reliable. But the consumers and the cocktail makers wanted something riskier, more “out there.” A wave of craft distillers, particularly in British Columbia, refused to accept this "smooth" limitation. They decided to seize the narrative and build their own regional reputation. This isn’t a recent sudden change; these regional regulation alterations have been in motion for over a decade. Back in 2013, BC established a BC “Craft Distillery” designation, making it a legal status which means that any distillery labeled as “craft” must have 100% provincial agricultural inputs. Under this rule, all whiskies labelled as craft in BC not only have to be made from BC grain, it also must be fermented on site, the use of neutral grain spirit (NGS) is strictly prohibited.  By doing this, the government created one of the most diverse craft distillery scenes in North America, with over 85 craft distilleries, more than any other province or territory in Canada. Under BC law if a distillery is small producer (under 50,000L), and use only BC agricultural inputs, the government mark up on the products is 0 per cent. Compared to the common mark up of 163 per cent from most mark ups from the BC Liquor board, you can see why this regulation has caused an incubator effect, leading to the regions premiumisation.  Reece Sims, Principal at SIP Spirits Consultant highlights the potential of the province “British Columbia’s craft distilleries are quietly building one of the most diverse whisky landscapes not just in Canada, but globally. Canada’s flexible whisky regulations give producers room to experiment, and in BC, that freedom meets an incredibly rich agricultural backdrop. Barley, wheat, rye, oats, and even lesser-seen grains like triticale thrive here, and distillers are actually using them in ways that push flavour beyond the expected.” Locally based whisky curator and consultant Stacey Kyle supports this by saying “I think the perception of Canadian whisky as a value category is deeply ingrained, and it’s been reinforced by how the category has historically been marketed. In BC, we’re seeing producers intentionally move away from that—prioritising flavour development, raw materials, and origin. At Shelter Point Distillery, for example, the use of estate-grown barley and coastal maturation creates a product that competes on character, not price.” It’s easy to see Shelter Point Distillery is taking terroir to the extreme. As an “Estate” distillery growing its own barley on 380 acres of oceanfront land, the distillery showcases a unique sense of place through both its experimental releases and its matured core range. On the experimental side, their “Smoke Point” Single Malt demonstrates this literal connection to the land; it is finished in barrels smoked with driftwood gathered from their own shorelines, infusing the spirit with a distinct maritime saltiness and sweet campfire smoke. However, it is their commitment to patience and traditional maturation that is garnering the most international attention. Their 10-Year-Old Estate Whisky, a flagship expression made from 100 per cent estate-grown grain, recently won acclaim at the 2026 World Whiskies Awards. This win proves that BC’s estate-grown grain can compete with —and beat — the world’s oldest traditions on the global stage. Further down the coast, Macaloney’s Island Distillery is another standout example of this path. Their "Peat Project", which utilises local peat washed with sugar kelp, didn't just win over fans; it claimed the title of Best Canadian Single Malt at the 2026 World Whiskies Awards. These wins aren't just about a good recipe; they are a deliberate attempt to bottle the Pacific Northwest’s terroir. With Dr Graeme Macaloney recently named a Global Icon of Whisky, it’s clear that when BC grain meets salt-misted island air and regional peat, the result is world-class. Margaret Ryfiel, CEO of Macaloney’s Island Distillery explains their approach, “We created an experimental cask that brought together British Columbia barley, peat sourced from Washington's coastal lowlands and sustainably harvested sugar kelp with Cascadia Seaweed, in partnership with First Nations.   The sugar kelp has fresh maritime aromas and sweet smoke. We wanted to coax complexity from humble ingredients while amplifying our West Coast terroir.” As she says, “it's the Pacific Coast in a bottle of whisky.” Just across the Strait of Georgia from the city of Victoria, located on Vancouver Island, lies Vancouver, positioned on the Lower Mainland. It’s just a short 1 hour and 35 minute ferry, or if you fancy a 35-minute float plane ride where if you’re lucky, you’ll spot some local marine wildlife. But the scene quickly shifts from the mist-soaked rainforest of the Island to the bustling, historical grit of Vancouver’s urban distilling scene. Innovators like Sons of Vancouver, located in North Vancouver, lean into the “Rye Evolution” in Canada by creating a high-rye mash bill, often aging in Caribbean rum casks or peated single malt barrels. With names like "Palm Trees and a Tropical Breeze" (the first craft whisky to ever be named Canadian Whisky of the Year in 2023) and "Cigarettes on a Leather Jacket" they offer minimal intervention, almost like it wants to give the spirit a chance to tell its own story. The team is driven by a determination to create whiskies designed to be powerful drams, or playful cocktails, that honour Canadian heritage while defying its stereotypes. Jenna Diubaldo, blender and Partner of Sons of Vancouver described their teams thought process for making their unique whiskies, “Our whiskies are very experiential and often draw from a sense memory or something nostalgic. They’re often Cask Strength and are blended with intention to be the best possible version of that whisky, rather than just proofing down to whatever ABV and throwing it in a bottle. In 2024 we began working with a small farm in the Kootenay Valley to procure single farm origin rye grain. In a province where all craft whisky makers are mandated to use local grain, having this level of control over our raw material inputs means we can further set ourselves apart in the field by ensuring the quality and consistency we’re looking for in our rye.” Then there’s the scientific rebel of East Vancouver. Gordon Glanz, the founder and distiller for the Odd Society Spirits. As a Heriot-Watt graduate, he applies his passion for traditional Scottish methods while also experimenting with raw grains and commercial enzymes. Projects like using Thor barley, a heritage grain grown in BC which can offer more complex, earthy and nutty profiles defy the smooth and light stereotype. His “Commodore Single Malt” is an ode to Gordons time back at Springbank in Campbeltown, yet it remains distinctly, stubbornly Canadian. If you see a bottle of craft BC whisky in a store near you, its probably worth grabbing, especially since being a craft distil

英印貿易協議生效!蘇格蘭威士忌在印度降價

Google News(Scotch/Distillery)|原題:Happy Hours! UK trade pact brings scotch prices down in India - The Economic Times

Happy Hours! UK trade pact brings scotch prices down in India Synopsis Scotch prices in India have decreased significantly for the first time following the India-UK free trade agreement. Major brands like Johnnie Walker Black Label and J&B are experiencing price reductions in various states. The agreement has halved the tariff on British whisky, leading to these lower prices. Companies are working to submit proposals for price adjustments in other regions as well. Also Read: Scotch at a discount post UK FTA is only half the story for India's whisky market The reductions are the first significant consumer pricing response by the two biggest Scotch makers since the trade pact took effect on July 15, offering an early test of how much of the tariff savings will reach India's whisky drinkers. "The UK FTA will have an impact on the existing prices being offered by bottled-in-origin brands. This could lead to a shift in the competitive dynamics for other whiskies, including Indian single malts," said Sandeep Arora, founder of Spiritual Luxury Living. "Price differences, the entry of new whiskies, and availability will be key factors for the Indian market," he said. Diageo's 750-ml Johnnie Walker Black Label is now selling at about ₹3,800, down from ₹4,250, while J&B is around ₹1,700, compared with ₹2,300 earlier, industry sources said. The India-UK agreement cut the tariff on British whisky to 75% from 150%, effectively halving the tariff rate, with a further reduction to 40% over 10 years. That does not translate into an equivalent fall in retail prices because import duty is only one component of the final price, alongside state excise duties, taxes, distribution costs and margins. Also Read: Radico Khaitan flies Rampur, Sangam whiskies into Scotch’s backyard Diageo had earlier estimated that prices of its bottled-in-origin Scotch portfolio could fall by about 7-9% on a nationally weighted average basis. The larger cuts in some states reflect state-specific pricing structures and commercial decisions, rather than direct tariff reduction. "While we have considered repricing to compete with these brands, we will have to wait till after the festive season to get a clearer picture of the market," said Rakshit Jagdale, company chief, Amrut Distilleries. Pernod Ricard CEO Alexandre Ricard said in August that his company would use the agreement to make its brands "more relevant and more affordable to consumers", while introducing new Scotch propositions and accelerating innovation from Britain. Scotch has officially got some company on its own turf. Radico Khaitan has brought its Indian luxury whisky portfolio to four major UK airports, with Rampur and Sangam now available at duty-free stores across Heathrow, Gatwick, Manchester and Birmingham. Rampur Whisky Arrives At UK Airports With Rampur & Sangam The move puts Indian whisky right in the middle of one of the world’s biggest travel-shopping markets. And yes, there is something deliciously ironic about Indian single malts turning up in the home of Scotch. The brands making the trip include Rampur Indian Single Malt Double Cask, Rampur Asava, Rampur Barrel Blush and Sangam World Malt. For travellers flying through these airports, that means Indian whisky is no longer something they need to discover after landing back home. It can now be picked up somewhere between passport control, perfume counters and the inevitable airport coffee. Also Read: World Whisky Day: 10 Whisky Cocktail Recipes To Try If Youve Had Enough Of Old Fashioned Indian Whisky Meets The Home Of Scotch The numbers make the expansion even more interesting. Heathrow, Gatwick, Manchester and Birmingham collectively handled more than 170 million passengers in 2025. Heathrow alone accounted for approximately 84.5 million, followed by Gatwick at 42.8 million, Manchester at 32.1 million and Birmingham at 13.7 million. That is a lot of travellers getting a chance to encounter Indian whisky before boarding their flights. Radico Khaitan’s International Business President, Sanjeev Banga, summed up the idea perfectly when he said, “Indian whisky does not need to compete with Scotch to have a place in the conversation. It simply needs to get a seat at the table, or, in this case, on the airport shelf.” And the portfolio has quite the story to tell. Rampur Indian Single Malt is made at the Rampur Distillery, established in 1943, where the Himalayan foothills influence the whisky’s maturation. The UK selection includes expressions such as Double Cask, Asava and Barrel Blush, each taking a different route with Indian single malt. The timing also comes during a strong run for Radico Khaitan. The company recorded approximately ₹6,050 crore in net revenue in FY26, while its Prestige & Above portfolio contributed 70.3% of IMFL value. It has picked four major airports, found itself a duty-free shelf and basically said, “Move over, we brought our own dram.” Cover Image Courtesy: Supplied FAQs Is Indian whisky available at UK airports? Yes. Radico Khaitan has introduced its Rampur and Sangam whisky portfolio at duty-free stores across Heathrow, Gatwick, Manchester and Birmingham airports. Which Indian whiskies are available at these UK airports? The UK selection includes Rampur Indian Single Malt Double Cask, Rampur Asava, Rampur Barrel Blush and Sangam World Malt. The New York International Spirits Competition recently announced its 2026 results, and today we’re looking at the American rye whiskey that won the judges over. Entries are tasted blind by trade buyers, who judge each spirit “by its category and actual price as if buying it for their business,” and a Double Gold requires a unanimous decision from the panel. All nine ryes here won Double Gold with 96 points, from a Kentucky staple to a 12 year old finished in three types of wine cask. The Whiskey Wash is protected by reCAPTCHA, and the Google Privacy Policy and Terms of Service apply. American rye must contain at least 51% rye in the mash bill. So, here are the best American rye whiskeys according to the New York International Spirits Competition 2026. Do you agree with the results? Is there a rye whiskey you expected to see here? Let us know in the comments below. Widow Jane Paradigm Rye Whiskey Award: Double Gold, 96 points Category: American Straight Rye Whiskey, Up to 10 years, USA Every Kirkland Bourbon Ranked, From Worst to Best READ THE STORYTasting Notes: Lemon meringue pie, spring flowers, cut grass, lychee, buttered rye toast, mandarin marmalade, cedar, white pepper, thyme, artichoke, Earl Grey, sandalwood, peach Find Your Next Bottle: $43 / £34 Widow Jane has made a name for itself in recent years, most notably with its bourbons. However, this rye clearly impressed the NYISC judges. Widow Jane is named after the Widow Jane limestone mine in Rosendale, New York, and the brand proofs its whiskey with limestone water from the Rosendale mines, which is trucked to its distillery in Red Hook, Brooklyn. The distillery was founded in 2012 and has been part of Heaven Hill since the 2022 acquisition of Samson & Surrey. Paradigm blends rye distilled in Red Hook with rye whiskeys from Kentucky and Indiana, made in five-barrel batches. It is non-chill filtered and bottled at 46.5% ABV. It was one of three Widow Jane whiskeys to win Double Gold at this year’s competition. Redemption Straight Rye Whiskey Award: Double Gold, 96 points Category: American Straight Rye Whiskey, Up to 10 years, USA Tasting Notes: Toasted oak, caramel, allspice, corn, citrus, baking spice, black pepper, mint Find Your Next Bottle: $26 / £21 Redemption was founded by Dave Schmier and Michael Kanbar, who bottled Indiana-distilled rye at Kanbar’s Strong Spirits plant in Bardstown, Kentucky. Deutsch Family Wine & Spirits bought the brand in 2015 and signed a long-term supply contract with MGP. The straight rye is made from 95% rye and 5% malted barley, distilled by MGP in Lawrenceburg, Indiana. Redemption introduced new packaging in April 2026, and its 18 Year Old was named 18 Year Bourbon of the Year at last year’s NYISC. Schmier is also the founder of Proof and Wood Ventures, whose Tumblin’ Dice rye appears next on this list. Tumblin’ Dice Straight Rye Whiskey, Finished in Apple Brandy Barrels Award: Double Gold, 96 points Category: American Straight Rye Whiskey, Up to 10 years, USA Tasting Notes: Stewed apples, orchard fruits, caramel, spice, pepper, toasted oak Find Your Next Bottle: $89.99 / £68 The barrels used to finish this rye came from Laird & Company, which was founded in 1780 and is known as America’s oldest licensed distillery, and they had previously held 8.5 year old apple brandy. The whiskey itself is made from 95% rye and 5% malted barley, distilled in Indiana. It was aged for seven years in new charred oak before spending a year in the Laird’s barrels. The release ran to ten barrels, each bottled individually at barrel proof, so the strength varies from bottle to bottle, ranging from 117 to 120 proof. Gerard Dunn, VP of Operations at Laird & Company, said at the time: “The rich character developed over nearly a decade of aging our apple brandy adds a unique layer of complexity and fruit-driven depth to the rye whiskey.” Wild Turkey 101 Rye Award: Double Gold, 96 points Category: American Straight Rye Whiskey, Up to 10 years, USA Tasting Notes: Baking spice, caramel, honey, vanilla, smoke Find Your Next Bottle: $23 / £18 Wild Turkey 101 Bourbon needs no introduction, but did you know that the brand also makes a 101 proof rye? Wild Turkey 101 Rye is reportedly made from 51% rye, 37% corn, and 12% malted barley. It is distilled in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, and matured in new American oak with the No. 4 “alligator” char used across the Wild Turkey range. It is bottled at 101 proof without an age statement. The rye was hard to find between roughly 2012 and 2015, but it has been widely available since. Wild Turkey also won Double Gold with 96 points this year for Wild Turkey 101 Bourbon and Russell’s Reserve Single Barrel. Sagamore Spirit 10 Year Old Straight Rye Whiskey Award: Double Gold, 96 points Category: American Straight Rye Whiskey, Up to 10 years, USA Tasting Notes: Crème brûlée, floral honey, white pepper Find Your Next Bottle: $80 / £64 The 10 Year Old is the oldest whiskey Sagamore Spirit has released to date. It was aged for a decade in new charred American oak and bottled at 55.4% ABV as part of the Reserve Series. It first came out in September 2025 and has since been re-released. Kevin Plank, the founder of Under Armour, and Bill McDermond started Sagamore in 2013 to revive Maryland rye, and its Baltimore distillery opened in April 2017. Illva Saronno, the Italian company behind Disaronno, bought a majority stake in 2023. Before Prohibition, Maryland was one of the country’s leading spirits-producing states along with Pennsylvania and Kentucky, but its last whiskey distillery closed in 1972, more than 40 years before Sagamore’s distillery opened. Sagamore is one of several distilleries making Maryland rye again, contributing to a resurgence of the historic style. High Peaks Distilling Landrace Empire Rye Award: Double Gold, 96 points Category: American Straight Rye Whiskey, Up to 10 years, USA Tasting Notes: Bold, earthy spice, anise, pepper, grassy turmeric, charred oak Find Your Next Bottle: $46 / £35 Back to New York! Landrace Empire Rye is sold under the Empire Rye standard, which requires at least 75% New York-grown rye in the mash bill. The whiskey must also be made at a single New York distillery and aged for at least two years in new charred oak. High Peaks uses only New York landrace rye, an older variety that predates modern hybrids. The grain is mashed and fermented at Adirondack Pub & Brewery and distilled in a copper pot still built by JBF Stainless in Utica. High Peaks was founded in Lake George in 2016 by John Carr, who opened the brewpub in 1999, and the rye is bottled unfiltered at 42% ABV. Angel’s Envy Cellar Collection Vol. 5 Straight Rye Whiskey Finished in French Oak Extra Añejo Tequila Barrels Award: Double Gold, 96 points Category: 11 – 20 years, American Straight Rye Whiskey, USA Tasting Notes: Vanilla, baking spices, cracked pepper, herbal agave syrup, earthy tobacco, brown sugar, orange blossom honey, tropical fruits Find Your Next Bottle: $150 / £120 Vol. 5 was the first Cellar Collection release to go on sale nationwide. It was also the first that master distiller Owen Martin oversaw from start to finish. It combines straight rye aged up to seven years, finished for up to 12 months in Patrón French Oak Extra Añejo barrels, with an 11 year old straight rye. Martin selected the barrels at Hacienda Patrón in Jalisco with Patrón master distiller David Rodriguez. It is bottled at 104.2 proof. Angel’s Envy was founded by the late Lincoln Henderson and his son Wes. Baca

Which award-winning Indian single malts give you the most for your money, and can you actually buy them where you live? Indian single malts did well at many of the competitions we have covered this year. For this article, I am focusing on just two. At the International Wine & Spirits Competition 2026, 34 Indian whiskies won medals. At the World Whisky Masters 2026, Indian single malts took one Master medal and 11 Gold medals across part one and part two of our results. The Whiskey Wash is protected by reCAPTCHA, and the Google Privacy Policy and Terms of Service apply. So, I went back through our IWSC Indian single malt results and the World Whisky Masters coverage and picked out seven bottles that pair a strong medal result with a reasonable price, so that you can get the best bang-for-your-buck Indian whiskies. Let’s take a look at them. Crazy Cock Madhuca III, 42.8% ABV, ₹3,600 Award: IWSC Gold (95 Points) and World Whisky Masters Gold Madhuca III was the only Indian single malt to win Gold at the IWSC this year, with 95 points, and it also won Gold at the World Whisky Masters. It is made by South Seas Distilleries at Dahanu, on the Maharashtra coast, and the family behind the distillery has been making spirits since 1922. The whisky is matured in ex-bourbon casks and then finished in casks that previously held Mahura. It has been billed at the word’s first Mahura cask finished whisky. Crazy Cock’s official notes include vanilla, toffee, sweet orange, chocolate, and charred oak. The IWSC judges noted lemon cheesecake, marshmallow, peach, and gingerbread. Every Kirkland Bourbon Ranked, From Worst to Best READ THE STORYThe launch price was around ₹3,590 to ₹3,680, with the bottle launching in Mumbai, Gurgaon, Bengaluru, and Goa. As of yet, it is not widely available in the UK or in the US, but we live in hope that this innovative whisky will make its way here in time. You might be able to find it through specialist UK retailers. For now, if you come across a bottle in India, grab it while you can. Godawan 01 Rich & Rounded, 46%, £61 / $75 / ₹3,800 Award: World Whisky Masters Master Godawan made waves when it burst onto the global whisky scene in 2022, and the brand has now won over 125 awards for its whiskies. Godawan 01 won the only Master medal given to an Indian single malt at this year’s World Whisky Masters. It is made at the Alwar distillery in Rajasthan, and owned by Diageo India. As we explained in a previous article, it is made with Indian six-row barley. Distilled from Indian six-row barley, Godawan 01 is matured in Pedro Ximénez sherry casks, with part of the whisky finished in casks seasoned with the Ayurvedic botanicals Rasna and Jatamansi. When Phil Dwyer reviewed it last year, he scored it an 8 out of 10, noting: “It’s easy-going but not overly sweet. The balance of sweet, gentle spice and a touch of youthfulness at the end of the palate. It’s really well put together.” Godawan 01 is one of the easier bottles on this list to find outside India. DŌAAB Expression 02: The Old Man & The Blossom, 42.7% ABV, ₹3,500 Award: World Whisky Masters Gold and IWSC Silver (91 Points) The Old Man & The Blossom won Gold at the World Whisky Masters and Silver at the IWSC with 91 points. It is distilled in Behror, Rajasthan, from barley from Sri Ganhangar and matures in Japanese Mizunara oak casks, making it the first Indian single malt aged in Mizunara. ThePrint reported that the barley comes from Sri Ganganagar, also in Rajasthan. Globus describes the nose as “delicate fresh florals layered with the warmth of vanilla.” The IWSC judges noted jasmine, crisp apple, tangerine, white chocolate, and sandalwood. The whisky launched in Gurugram at ₹3,500 to ₹3,800, but prices may well be higher in other states. Again, this one is difficult to find outside of India, but has clearly impressed global judges, including those from The Spirits Business. Crazy Cock Madhuca II, 42.8% ABV, ₹4,800 Award: World Whisky Masters Gold and IWSC Silver (91 Points) Madhuca II comes from the same Dahanu distillery as Madhuca III and is also finished in casks that previously held Mahura. It won Silver at the IWSC with 91 points and Gold at the World Whisky Masters. According to Crazy Cock, the whisky is matured in a mix of ex-bourbon and ex-wine casks before the Mahura finish. Crazy Cock’s notes list vanilla, citrus, and marzipan on the nose, with apricot, nutmeg, cinnamon, and dark chocolate on the palate. The IWSC judges picked up incense, black cherries, milk chocolate, and espresso. It sells in India for around ₹4,750 to ₹4,850. Indri Agneya, 46%, £48 / $63 / ₹3,800 Award: IWSC Silver (92 Points) Agneya is the first peated release from Indri, made by Piccadily Distilleries in Haryana, and it won Silver at the IWSC with 92 points. The six-row barley is peated to 25 ppm with Scottish peat, and the whisky is matured in ex-bourbon and Pedro Ximénez sherry casks. You’ll find mango, ripe banana, toffee, and dried peat smoke. The IWSC judges noted cream sherry, coconut, earthy peat, and menthol. It is a great introduction to peated Indian whisky, with the oily mouthfeel, tropical fruit notes, and peat smoke resulting in a structured and complex single malt with more to offer than just smokiness. Greg Dillon reviewed it earlier this year and said: “This is where Indri becomes more defined, as the addition of smoke brings structure to a spirit that could otherwise lean too heavily into warmth and fruit; the core character remains intact, but the balance feels tighter and more considered, making this a strong option for drinkers who want a modern smoky whisky with restraint rather than intensity.” Godawan 02 Fruit & Spice, 46%, £61 / $76 / ₹3,800 Award: World Whisky Masters Gold Godawan 02 comes from the same Alwar distillery as Godawan 01 and won Gold at the World Whisky Masters. Sources describe the cask order differently. The whisky is matured in ex-bourbon casks and finished in cherry wood casks seasoned with Rasna and Jatamansi. Phil Dwyer reviewed this one for us. On the nose, he found fudge, toffee, raisins, orange liqueur, and cinnamon. On the palate, he picked up apple, pear, cherry, and toffee, which he described as “almost rum and raisin like.” He gave it an overall rating of 8 and wrote, “I do prefer Godawan 01 Rich And Rounded, but this is as good for different reasons.” Again, this whisky is more readily available outside of India. GianChand Indian Single Malt, 42.8%, $89 / ₹4,600 Award: IWSC Silver (90 Points) GianChand’s signature single malt won Silver at the IWSC with 90 points. It also won Double Gold at this year’s San Francisco World Spirits Competition. DeVANS Modern Breweries is based in Jammu. The company was founded in 1961 and sold malt spirit to other producers for many years before releasing its own single malt in 2022. The whisky is distilled in long swan-neck copper pot stills and matured in ex-bourbon barrels, boasting notes of gingerbread, dried apricot, prune, and honeycomb toffee. The IWSC judges picked up prune, orchard fruits, soft ginger, and gentle smoke. It reportedly sells for around ₹4,490 in Delhi, and Wine Palace Goa lists it at ₹4,600. In the US, Bridge Discount Liquor sells it for $89.99. I could not find a UK retailer selling it, but again live in hope. Indian Single Malt Is Worth Seeking Out Indian single malt can offer excellent value, but the price you pay depends a lot on where you buy it. Local taxes differ from state to state in India, so the same bottle can cost much

Sherry has played a central role in Tomatin whisky for more than 100 years, with the distillery maturing spirit in casks sourced from Jerez throughout its history. Tomatin describes the whisky’s official tasting notes as opening with candied orange peel, berry compote, and honey and vanilla sweetness on the nose. The palate develops flavors of rich dark chocolate, sultanas, and tarte tatin, leading to a long finish of baking spices. The distillery is one of only four in Scotland to operate an in-house cooperage, a key component of its wood management. Tomatin’s cooper, Allan Bartlett, was named ‘Cooper of the Year’ at the Icons of Whisky Awards 2025 in recognition of his work managing the distillery’s cask stock. Jamie Muir, distillery manager at Tomatin, said: “Sherry casks are woven into the Tomatin story, and the flavours created in this whisky show exactly why we return to them time and time again.” Every Kirkland Bourbon Ranked, From Worst to Best READ THE STORYHe added: “A first-fill Pedro Ximénez sherry butt is a bold cask to work with, and the lengthy maturation has drawn out real richness and depth in our spirit without masking the soft, fruit-led Highland character Tomatin is known for.” Muir also highlighted the role of the on-site cooperage. “Our first-class wood policy means every cask is looked after with genuine care, and having our own cooperage on site led by Allan is a big part of that,” he said. Gordon Hynd, UK sales director at Tomatin, said the release was designed with independent merchants in mind. “Specialist whisky retailers are where enthusiasts go to find something they won’t see anywhere else, and we wanted to give them a release that lives up to that,” he said. Hynd added: “At Tomatin, we have built up trusted relationships with UK merchants over decades and value them enormously, so this 2011 single cask is our way of offering them something special.” Bottled at 58.8% ABV, the release is limited to 608 bottles. It carries an RRP of £105 (US$141) and is presented in dark green-hued packaging.

Each entrant presented a bespoke liqueur recipe alongside a simple serve and a signature serve to the judging panel. In the South final in London, Lorenzo Gavelli of Disrepute won with his Timur Berry liqueur, presented as a Timur Spritz and a Timur Paloma. “The liqueur showcases the versatility of the Timur Berry and its initial floral notes,” said Gavelli, “developing into a pleasant peppery bite with a long-lasting end note of citrus reminiscent of pink grapefruit.” Rowena Mead of Fight Club, Shoreditch, was joint winner in the same heat with her Essence de Cigare liqueur, served as a Late-Night Tabac and a Backroom Manhattan. “There are only a small number of tobacco liqueurs, due to the health and safety implications of nicotine infusion into alcohol,” Mead explained. Michael Dylan Edwards of Simone’s Cocktail Club, Liverpool, took the North/Midlands final with a Beetroot liqueur, presenting an English Royale and a New English. “I wanted this liqueur to be inclusive and not overly earthy,” said Edwards. Every Kirkland Bourbon Ranked, From Worst to Best READ THE STORYRachael Carpenter, co-owner of Skoll & Hati, won the Scottish final with an Elderberry liqueur, served as The Elder Tree and Voluspa. Judges added a wildcard place for runner-up Mia Gander of Bramble, Edinburgh, whose 20% ABV Beurre liqueur will also travel to Dijon. The competition dates back a decade. Previous winner Ashley Haines returns as a judge this year, having taken the 2024/2025 title with his Sweet Woodruff liqueur. Jack Rackham, managing director at Emporia Brands and a Wizard judge, commented: “Over a decade of Wizard Awards and the quality keeps getting better. This year’s regionals were the strongest yet, both in creativity and technical execution.” Haines added: “The standard of this year’s competition has been extraordinary. I can’t wait to see which of these five exceptional finalists is crowned the next Wizard in Dijon.”

Radico Khaitan targets UK airports for Indian whisky push By Rupert HohwielerIndian spirits producer Radico Khaitan has brought its whisky portfolio to four of the UK’s biggest and busiest airports. Indian whisky brands Rampur and Sangam are now available at London’s Heathrow and Gatwick airports, as well as Manchester and Birmingham. Radico Khaitan said the airports, which had a combined 170 million passengers in 2025, represent an opportunity to increase the visibility of Indian luxury spirits in global travel retail. “Our international ambition is not simply about increasing the number of airports in which we operate,” said the company’s managing director Abhishek Khaitan. “It is about building meaningful brand presence and ensuring that Indian spirits are experienced in the right environments, by consumers who appreciate provenance, craftsmanship and distinctive character. “This entry is an important milestone in our journey to take Indian luxury to the world. Global travel retail gives us the opportunity to connect with consumers from different parts of the world and showcase the depth, diversity and evolving quality of Indian spirits.” The airports’ duty-free stores will now stock premium expressions such as Indian single malts Rampur Double Cask, Asava and Barrel Blush, as well as Sangam World Malt. Sanjeev Banga, Radico Khaitan’s president of international business, added: “We are not asking the world to choose between Scotch and Indian whisky. We are simply making sure that Indian whisky gets a seat at the table, and perhaps a place on the airport shelf as well. “This is an exciting opportunity to show travellers that the world of whisky has room for more than one accent, and this time, the accent is unmistakably Indian.” Radico Khaitan began its 2027 financial year with ‘record’ sales. It increased its gross profit by 27.7% year on year to INR 826.8 crore (US$86.2 million) during the first quarter. The ‘Prestige and Above’ portfolio led the strong start with 53.1% volume growth. Earlier this year, the company confirmed plans to establish a Scotch whisky division. Abhishek Khaitan also told SB in August that white spirits could be the next growth opportunity for India’s alcohol sector. Diageo offers ‘oldest’ cask of Lagavulin to private clients By Joe RogersThe centrepiece of Diageo’s new cask offering, The Twelve by Casks of Distinction, is a rare 1991 vintage Lagavulin single malt. London-based drinks firm Diageo unveiled its latest annual Casks of Distinction offering to clients at Royal Lochnagar Distillery earlier this month. The ‘twelfth cask’ in this year’s selection – said to represent ‘the pinnacle of rarity, craftsmanship and distillery character’ – is the oldest cask of Lagavulin single malt the company has offered for private sale to date. The Lagavulin Cask #1069 was filled into a combination of refill European and American oak in 1991 and transferred to a Pedro Ximénez seasoned hogshead in 2007. Stuart Morrison, Lagavulin master blender, said: “This is certainly one of the most special Lagavulin casks I have ever experienced. After more than 35 years, it still has remarkable vitality. The PX maturation has added incredible depth without ever overshadowing the distillery’s character. It’s a whisky that reflects decades of patience, careful stewardship and the confidence to let time do what it does best.” Diageo has described the Lagavulin 1991 as ‘a whisky of remarkable richness’ with a ‘powerful peated character’ and notes of dried fruit, liquorice and charred oak. Launched in 2023, the Casks of Distinction programme offers clients the opportunity to purchase whole casks of Scotch whisky from across Diageo’s portfolio of distilleries. They are then able to work with the firm’s master whisky makers to further mature and bottle their purchase as desired, while also enjoying perks such as bespoke distillery experiences and access to Diageo’s private client experiences around the world. This includes access to the newly renovated Justerini & Brooks’ premises in St James’s, London. The other 11 Casks of Distinction unveiled this year are: Blair Athol 1997 cask number #1491; Clynelish 1990 cask number #4514; Cragganmore 1989 cask number #2503; Glen Ord 1987 cask number #3351; Caol Ila 1984 cask number #5772; Caol Ila 1991 cask number #1010; Talisker 1978 cask number #2824; Talisker 1992 cask number #3228; Linkwood 1993 cask number #13; Port Dundas 1991 cask number #1005; and Glenkinchie 1991 cask number #1017. Prices for each cask selected for The Twelve by Casks of Distinction are available on request. In May of this year, Diageo launched the Rare Series, a selection of five whiskies that included its oldest single malt bottling yet – a 55-year-old Glenury Royal. Last week, it was announced that the company’s CFO, Nik Jhangiani, will be replaced by Joanne Wilson, who previously worked with CEO Sir Dave Lewis during his tenure at UK retailer Tesco. 威爾斯島嶼威士忌新作 Wisgi Môn 強化單一麥芽威士忌品類

Google News(Scotch/Distillery)|原題:New whisky bolsters Welsh island single malt category - The Spirits Business

New whisky bolsters Welsh island single malt category By Lauren BowesAnglesey’s Wisgi Môn is believed to be one of the first single malt whiskies to be made on a Welsh island. The whisky takes its name from the Welsh name for the island, Ynys Môn, and was distilled at the island’s Llanfairpwll Distillery. The first edition of Wisgi Môn is a small batch release limited to just 200 bottles. Fifty bottles will be available to pre-order from December, a year prior to its release. The liquid is made using local water and is matured in ex-rum oak casks previously used by Llanfairpwll Distillery to mature its Anglesey Rum. In accordance with the geographical indication (GI) for single malt Welsh whisky, Wisgi Môn is made and matured entirely on Anglesey. Accreditation is expected to be approved once the liquid has been bottled. Later releases will be similarly limited and explore maturation in a variety of different oak casks. Each bottle of Wisgi Môn is individually numbered and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. Collectors can also purchase Wisgi Môn by the cask. Llanfairpwll Distillery is also selling 200ml of its new make spirit for £17.50 (US$23) so collectors can ‘experience the foundations of its character’ before it is influenced by oak. Rob Laming, distiller and co-founder of Llanfairpwll Distillery, said: “Island whiskies have always had a special place in the whisky world, but traditionally that conversation has centred around Scotland. “We have this extraordinary island here in Wales, with its own landscape, water and character, and we wanted to create a whisky that genuinely belongs to it. “Wisgi Môn is made here on Anglesey, with local water, by hand and in incredibly small batches.” Wisgi Môn will be available to purchase exclusively from Llanfairpwll Distillery. In other British spirits news, the GI for English whisky was approved this month, though the Scotch Whisky Association expressed ‘profound’ concerns.

Benromach has launched its new 12 Years Old single malt, bringing together exclusive first-fill Sherry cask maturation, a 46% ABV bottling strength and the Speyside distillery’s distinctive touch of smoke. It joins the distillery’s signature range alongside its 15 and 21 Years Old expressions. The new release offers a rich and fruity flavour profile, with notes of fruitcake, vibrant raspberry and orange, followed by cracked black pepper and a touch of smoke. Murdo Mackenzie, Benromach Distillery Manager, said, “This release marks an exciting milestone for the distillery. As our whisky stocks have continued to mature, introducing a 12-year-old single malt has always been part of our long-term vision. It’s allowed us to create a rich whisky with great depth, all while staying true to our distinctive subtly smoky character. With an ABV of 46%, we’re able to showcase more of the whisky’s natural character, texture and flavour.” Stuart Urquhart, Operations Director and fourth-generation family member, added, “This release feels really special to all of us here at Benromach. At our family-owned distillery, we’ve worked hard to recreate the character that once defined our home here in Speyside – a rich single malt whisky with a delicate hint of smoke – and this spirit does just that. The team has put their heart and soul into making this whisky, and we can’t wait to share it. And lovers of our 10-year-old single malt needn’t worry; it will still be readily available.” Speaking about the whisky, renowned whisky critic Neil Ridley said, “Benromach 12 Years Old is more than just a new age statement for the distillery. It highlights how well this uniquely smoky whisky integrates with rich, first-fill Sherry casks, bringing depth and a spicy, textured complexity. For me, peat smoke and Sherry have always been a match-made-in-heaven and this new release is a perfect example of how truly harmonious they can be together.” Benromach 12 Years Old is priced at £45 and is available through Benromach’s website, specialist retailers, the distillery visitor centre and in selected international markets. Located in the historic town of Forres, Benromach Distillery was founded in 1898 and was acquired by family-owned Gordon & MacPhail in 1993. The distillery was carefully restored and reopened in 1998, with the aim of reviving a lost Speyside whisky style.

Johnnie Walker Blue Label Indian Festive Blend 新品發售:為印度美食量身訂製的限量調和威士忌

Google News(Scotch/Distillery)|原題:Johnnie Walker Blue Label Indian Festive Blend: a new blend built for the spice-laden table - thedailywhisky.com

The Johnnie Walker Blue Label Indian Festive Blend is a limited edition blended Scotch whisky created by Master Blender Dr Emma Walker for India’s festive season. Unlike last year’s Rahul Mishra collaboration, which dressed Blue Label in a new design, this is a new blend, built to sit alongside Indian cuisine with notes of cardamom, saffron, rosewater and a wisp of smoke. It is bottled at 40.8% ABV, and in the US it lists at around $238 for 750ml. Designer Rahul Mishra returns for a second year on the bottle and gift box. Last year Johnnie Walker gave Blue Label a new outfit for Diwali. This year Dr Emma Walker has changed what is inside the bottle as well. The Johnnie Walker Blue Label Indian Festive Blend, announced on 29 September 2026, is a limited edition blend created specifically for India’s festive season and designed to be drunk with Indian food. It marks the second year of Johnnie Walker’s partnership with Indian couturier Rahul Mishra, and it is the first time the collaboration has come with its own liquid rather than a special pack around the core Blue Label. Johnnie Walker Blue Label Indian Festive Blend: the key facts - Type: Blended Scotch whisky, limited edition - ABV: 40.8% (US label) - Volume: 750ml (US) - Price: Around $238 in the US (retail listing). - Master Blender: Dr Emma Walker - Design: Rahul Mishra (second year of the collaboration) - Bottle count: Not disclosed - Announced: 29 September 2026 A blend designed around Indian cuisine The brief behind the Indian Festive Blend is unusually specific. According to Johnnie Walker, Dr Emma Walker set out to create a whisky that complements the richness of Indian food, where spice, sweetness and aromatics are held in balance on the same plate. “I was captivated by the artistry of Indian cuisine, the way chefs balance bold spice with harmony, elegance and depth,” she says. “By layering aromatic notes of cardamom, clove and cinnamon with smooth sweetness and our signature depth of flavour, we’ve created a whisky that complements the richness of India’s festive table while remaining unmistakably Johnnie Walker Blue Label.” That is a brief we understand well. At TDW we love Indian food with whisky. Spice-led cooking brings out sides of a dram that a quieter plate rarely touches: cardamom and clove pick up the spice in the cask, heat pushes the sweetness forward, and a touch of smoke has something to lean against. As with every Blue Label, the blend draws on Johnnie Walker’s reserve of more than 10 million maturing casks, of which the brand says only one in every 10,000 has the depth of flavour Blue Label requires. US retail listings name Port Dundas, Clynelish, Blair Athol and Talisker among the whiskies in the blend. Port Dundas, a Glasgow grain distillery that closed in 2010, is exactly the kind of increasingly rare stock that gives Blue Label its reputation. Johnnie Walker Blue Label Indian Festive Blend tasting notes We have not tasted the Indian Festive Blend yet. The notes below are Johnnie Walker’s own. Johnnie Walker Blue Label Indian Festive Blend: official tasting notes Nose: Fragrant cardamom, saffron, rosewater, bright citrus  Palate: Honeyed richness, chocolate-dipped fruit, rich caramel, warm spice, a hint of coconut  Finish: Long and softly spiced, with a gentle wisp of smoke  ABV: 40.8% | Type:Blended Scotch whisky | Price: Around $238 (750ml, US) From Blue Label with a new label to a new Blue Label The first Rahul Mishra edition in 2025 was a design release. Mishra wrapped Blue Label in blooming flowers, animals native to India and a festive night sky, and it sold in select markets globally at around £225 for 70cl. We saw that bottle in person on our visit to the Johnnie Walker Experience in Edinburgh, where it stood out immediately among the flagship’s displays. Mishra’s work on the 2026 edition follows the same language, with a mandala-like burst of leaves, chillies, cardamom pods and figs in pink, teal and gold across a deep blue bottle, and the Striding Man hidden at the centre. The bigger shift is that Johnnie Walker is now pairing the design with its own blend. It is not the first time Blue Label has been shaped around food. We tasted Johnnie Walker Blue Label Elusive Umami, created for umami-rich cuisine, alongside Korean food in Copenhagen, and it showed how well Blue Label’s soft, layered style can work at the table rather than only after dinner. The Indian Festive Blend takes the same idea to a different kitchen. Mishra describes the collaboration in terms of meaning rather than luxury for its own sake: “The festive season in India is deeply rooted in emotion, generosity and togetherness. For me, true luxury carries meaning, preserving craftsmanship while creating lasting memories.” The launch also opens a wider festive campaign running through the coming months, with experiences, activations and curated celebrations around whisky, Indian culture and design. Who is Johnnie Walker and where does Blue Label fit? Johnnie Walker is the world’s best-selling Scotch whisky brand, owned by Diageo and sold in more than 160 countries. The range runs from Red Label and Black Label through Gold Label Reserve to Blue Label, the top of the core line-up. Blue Label is a no-age-statement blend of malt and grain whiskies, some of them from distilleries that no longer exist. Its style is layered and rounded rather than bold, which is why it has become the brand’s canvas for limited editions and food-led blends. Dr Emma Walker became Johnnie Walker’s Master Blender in 2021, the first woman in the role. The Indian Festive Blend is one of her most tightly defined briefs yet: a whisky judged partly by how it performs next to a plate. Price and availability Johnnie Walker presents the Indian Festive Blend as a release for India’s festive season, but the bottle is not India-only. The US edition carries a 750ml, 40.8% ABV label, and US retailers list it at around $238. Johnnie Walker has not published an official RRP, a bottle count or a list of markets. For European readers, the 2025 Rahul Mishra edition reached UK specialists such as The Whisky Exchange and The Whisky Shop at around £225, so a similar route is likely, though not confirmed. We will update this article when UK and European availability is announced. Is it worth it? We cannot give a verdict on the liquid until we have tasted it. What we can say is that this is a more interesting release than last year’s. A limited Blue Label pack is a gift. A limited Blue Label blend designed around cardamom, saffron and rosewater is a whisky with an idea behind it. If you collect the Rahul Mishra series, this is the one to own, because it is the first with its own liquid. If you want to try Blue Label at its most food-friendly, plan the bottle around a proper Indian meal rather than a digestif. And if you already love Indian whisky, it is worth tasting next to the Rampur Jugalbandi series or Indri to see how a Scotch blender approaches the same table. Frequently asked questions What is the Johnnie Walker Blue Label Indian Festive Blend? The Johnnie Walker Blue Label Indian Festive Blend is a limited edition blended Scotch whisky created by Master Blender Dr Emma Walker for India’s festive season in 2026. It is designed to complement Indian food, with notes of cardamom, saffron, rosewater and citrus. The bottle and gift box are designed by Indian couturier Rahul Mishra. What does the Indian Festive Blend taste like? According to Johnnie Walker, the nose brings fragrant cardamom, saffron, rosewater and bright citrus. The palate follows with honey, chocolate-dipped fruit, caramel, warm spice and a hint of coconut. The finish is long and softly spiced, with a gentle wisp of smoke. The Daily Whisky has not yet tasted it. How much does Johnnie Walker Blue Label Indian Festive Blend cost? Johnnie Walker has not published an official recommended price. 蘇格蘭 Ardrishaig 威士忌酒廠獲批 875 萬英鎊投資案

Google News(Scotch/Distillery)|原題:Planning permission granted for £8.75m Ardrishaig Distillery - The Spirits Business

Planning permission granted for £8.75m Ardrishaig Distillery By Joe RogersArgyll and Bute Council has granted planning permission for a whisky distillery and visitor centre at a former oil depot in Ardrishaig on Scotland’s west coast. The planning application for the proposed Ardrishaig Distillery, made by Scottish firm Organic Architects, was approved on 25 September. Once complete, the £8.75 million (US$11.57m) Ardrishaig Distillery by Loch Gilp will feature a visitor centre, tasting rooms, a viewing terrace and a greenhouse. The former oil depot, which has been described as ‘a challenging site’, will undergo decontamination and extensive redevelopment in the coming months. The project is currently expected to be completed in late-2028. Bari Reid, director of Organic Architects, said: “The ambition is to give people another reason to stop and spend time in Ardrishaig, contributing to the life of the village as well as making whisky. It’s particularly rewarding to help find a productive future for a site that has been difficult to bring back into use.” The new distillery will be the first to produce whisky in Ardrishaig since Glenfyne Distillery was demolished in 1996. Speaking in January of this year when the planning application was submitted, Ardrishaig Distillery’s founder John Moore said: “Our goal is to turn the site within Ardrishaig into something the village can be proud of – a distillery known around the world for its craft and the experience it offers visitors. “With the help of Organic Architects, we’ve been able to bring that same care and attention to the design of the distillery. We don’t just want people to see how we make it – we want them to understand why we do things the way we do, and how that helps us produce a spirit that’s consistent and high in quality.” The construction of Ardrishaig Distillery is the latest phase in a broader project led by Moore to redevelop the historic Ardrishaig waterfront. In the past 12 months, several new distilleries have been granted planning permission across Scotland, including Glenachulish in Lochaber, Eyedent in East Lothian and Stock Spirits’ new site on Inverary Castle Estate. The Highlands-based Tomatin Distillery, has announced the launch of a new limited-edition single cask release, exclusive to the UK. Tomatin 2011 Single Cask (58.8% ABV) is a 15 Year Old single malt Scotch whisky, matured in a first-fill Pedro Ximénez Sherry butt. Sherry has played a key role in Tomatin whisky for more than 100 years, with the distillery maturing its spirit in casks sourced from Jerez throughout its history. The 2011 single cask expression is said to offer whisky aficionados a unique opportunity to discover the distillery’s decades of experience in sherry maturation. Carefully selected by Tomatin’s expert team, Cask No. 37316 is described as opening with notes of candied orange peel, berry compote, and honey and vanilla sweetness on the nose. On the palate, the fruity spirit develops with flavours of rich dark chocolate, sultanas and tarte tatin, followed by a long, lingering finish of baking spices. Tomatin is one of only four distilleries in Scotland to have an in-house cooperage, a key component in upholding its high standards of wood management. Cooper Allan Bartlett was recognised for his expertise in managing and maintaining the distillery’s cask stock at the Icons of Whisky Awards 2025, where he was named ‘Cooper of the Year’. Commenting on the launch, Jamie Muir, Distillery Manager at Tomatin, said: “Sherry casks are woven into the Tomatin story, and the flavours created in this whisky show exactly why we return to them time and time again. A first-fill Pedro Ximénez sherry butt is a bold cask to work with, and the lengthy maturation has drawn out real richness and depth in our spirit without masking the soft, fruit-led Highland character Tomatin is known for. Our first-class wood policy means every cask is looked after with genuine care, and having our own cooperage on site, led by Allan, is a big part of that.” Limited to 608 bottles, Tomatin 2011 Single Cask, is now available from selected specialist retailers in the UK, for a RRP of £105.00. Diageo’s India division has updated the appearance and changed the formulation of its Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL) brand, McDowell’s No1. The packaging refresh (above) includes a new bottle shape and label for the brand’s Original and Luxury iterations. Diageo India said the pack’s “contemporary visual identity” aims to “bring a more premium, distinctive and aspirational presence to shelf”. Diageo India has also “upgraded” the recipe for McDowell’s No1 – which has annual sales of “over” 30m cases is a blend of scotch, Indian malts and ‘grain spirits’ – by increasing the amount of scotch whisky by an unspecified amount. Diageo India’s CMO, Ruchira Jaitly, said: “Today’s whisky drinker is redefining value. It’s no longer just about affordability, but also about quality, craftsmanship and experience. “Socialising is at the heart of how India drinks, and consumers want a whisky they can proudly share with their circle; one that reflects who they are.” Sales of rival IMFL mark Oaksmith, owned by Suntory Global Spirits, are on course to hit 2m cases in 2026, seven years since the brand’s launch, CEO Greg Smith told Global Drinks Intel last month.

Choosing whisky by flavor, region, or age is perfectly normal. But did you know you can also pick a whisky that matches your zodiac sign? A Swiss whisky maker has even developed an entire series around that idea. Releasing whiskies in themed series is nothing new in the whisky world—a playful nod to collectors who will go to great lengths to complete their set. Great examples include Macallan’s “Editions 1–6” and Tomatin’s “Five Virtues Series,” which showcases five elements—Water, Metal, Fire, Earth, and Wood—each expressed in a distinct bottling. And there are plenty more familiar names, like Highland Park’s Valhalla series, or the Game of Thrones lineup—a collaboration between HBO and Diageo. Astrology inspires a standout whisky series Several series draw a line to astrology as well. Think of the Zodiac series from The Whisky Exchange. Dalmore does this too with its exclusive “Constellation Collection,” which comes at a serious premium and isn’t within everyone’s reach. A fine and more accessible example is the Zodiac Line from Seven Seals Innovation, headquartered in Switzerland. Seven Seals and the Fast Forward Finishing process The company’s name already hints at innovation. Founder Dr. Dolf Stockhausen developed an inventive maturation process that saves time, energy, and resources. He calls it the Fast Forward Finishing process. One of their product ranges is “The Zodiac Line,” where the rich diversity of the zodiac—from delicate Virgo to bold Taurus and well-balanced Libra—comes to life in a Single Malt whisky. Using the Stockhausen method, the defining traits of each zodiac sign are woven into and integrated with the character of the corresponding Single Malt during production. A whisky that suits your star sign Naturally, every bottle features Seven Seals’ recognizable logo alongside the relevant zodiac sign. The 500 ml bottles come housed in an elegant wooden case, subtly finished with the Seven Seals emblem.
