Google News(Scotch/Distillery)|原題:Scotch Whisky’s Decline Masks A Deeper Shift In How Consumers Are Drinking - londoninsider.co.uk

The Scotch whisky sector and wider spirits market have endured a bruising stretch of months, with a string of negative headlines raising serious questions about the industry’s future. Data from restructuring firm BTG warned that nearly one in five of Scotland’s distilleries were facing financial distress, a total of 69 distillers flagged as being in trouble. A further 217 distilleries across England, Wales, and Northern Ireland were identified as experiencing significant or critical financial stress in the second half of 2025. The outlook darkened further when Chivas Brothers, the Scotch whisky division of drinks giant Pernod Ricard, reported a five per cent decline in sales across its portfolio. Edrington Group, the owner of The Macallan, Highland Park, and The Glenrothes, then reported a 23 per cent decline in pre-tax profit, with sales falling 14 per cent across the business. Shortly after, Ian Macleod Distillers reported pre-tax profits down 45.8 per cent, with bulk whisky demand declining at a “significant double-digit rate.” Visitor experiences have also taken a hit, with Diageo saying it is closing the Aviation Gin visitor centre in Portland after buying the brand for up to $610 million in 2022. Diageo has also proposed shutting the visitor centre at its Clynelish Distillery in Brora, while English wine producer Nyetimber permanently closed The Lakes Distillery’s visitor centre, bistro, and shop in April 2026. However, taking these developments at face value as evidence that people are simply drinking less tells only part of a far more complicated story. Research by BGS Kantar, highlighted in Diageo’s fiscal half-year results, found that households in the US, UK, India, and Mexico were actually consuming spirits more frequently between 2024 and 2025. In the UK specifically, household penetration was up 1.2 percentage points and frequency of consumption rose 16 per cent, even as servings per occasion dipped modestly. IWSR forecasts that global spirits consumption will fall by just two per cent by 2035, a far more modest decline than the 14 per cent drop projected for wine over the same period. What appears to be happening across the market is not a broad collapse in demand but rather a meaningful shift away from premiumisation toward mid-range and flavoured products. Diageo has seen increased spending on Scotch whisky leader Johnnie Walker, particularly on special editions, alongside strong growth in Guinness and Crown Royal Canadian Whisky in a blackberry flavour that has become a social media sensation. Edrington’s own results support this trend, noting that sales of 25- and 30-year-old Macallans costing more than £1,000 fell, while the cheaper 12-year-old recorded double-digit percentage growth. The Artisanal Spirits Company, owner of the Scotch Malt Whisky Society, reported that while overall SMWS sales “grew marginally,” bottle sales in the USA were “particularly strong” at up roughly 10 per cent, and Australia “was up double digits.” SMWS bottles typically sit in the £70 to £120 price range, a sweet spot that appears to be resonating with consumers looking for quality without extreme outlay. The ready-to-drink category is also a growing force, with the segment expected to grow at a compound annual rate of 11.5 per cent through to 2035. Diageo’s new CEO Dave Lewis has noted, “As economic pressure has found its way into the US category, we see a downtrading to smaller pack sizes,” prompting producers to lean into miniatures and RTD cans. Bacardi-owned Patrón has even installed a miniature-bottle dispensing vending machine inside London’s 77 nightclub, signalling that demand for premium spirits persists but at lower volumes and price points. At the other end of the spectrum, 30 unique lots at the Distillers One of One auction raised £2.3 million against an estimate of just £1.4 million, proving that serious collectors remain active and willing to spend. The picture that emerges is one of de-premiumisation and reallocation rather than outright decline, presenting both a warning and a genuine opportunity for brands agile enough to respond.

The Islay-based Kilchoman Distillery has announced the launch of the first edition of its new Family Collection, with each release being hand-selected by the five members of Kilchoman’s founding family. The Kilchoman Family Collection – First Edition, comprises four expressions, headlined by a 20 Year Old, the distillery’s oldest general release to date. The collection showcases the evolving influence of ex-Bourbon and ex-Sherry casks as Kilchoman reaches more significant age statements. Kilchoman Family Collection 11 Year Old (54.7% ABV) Peated (50ppm) single malt Scotch whisky, matured in an Oloroso Sherry cask. Kilchoman Family Collection 14 Year Old (50.9% ABV) Peated (20ppm) single malt Scotch whisky, matured in an ex-Bourbon cask. Kilchoman Family Collection 18 Year Old (50% ABV) Peated (50ppm) single malt Scotch whisky, matured in an ex-Bourbon cask. Kilchoman Family Collection 20 Year Old (49.9% ABV) Peated (50ppm) single malt Scotch whisky, matured in an ex-Bourbon cask. The 14 Year Old was produced using barley grown at Kilchoman’s Rockside Farm. The 11, 18 and 20 Year Old expressions were produced using heavily peated barley sourced from Port Ellen Maltings, offering a contrasting style that reflects Kilchoman’s traditional peat profile. Commenting on the launch, Kilchoman Founder Anthony Wills said: “The Kilchoman Family Collection, both this year and in the years to come, showcases some of our most treasured casks. We are especially proud to release our first globally available 20 Year Old as part of this edition. Discovering and tasting these exceptional casks in our warehouses remains one of the great joys of what we do. As a family, we have dedicated the past two decades to crafting the finest spirit and selecting the very best casks, so seeing that commitment and care come to fruition is incredibly rewarding.” The Kilchoman Family Collection – First Edition 11, 14, 18 and 20 Year Old will be available later this month from selected specialist retailers, for the respective RRPs of £117, £127, £191 and £249.

Google News(Scotch/Distillery)|原題:Scotch whisky sales are falling, but what’s really behind the decline? - City AM

Scotch whisky sales are falling, but what’s really behind the decline? Whisky Business, City AM’s whisky supplement. The Scotch whisky sector and indeed the wider spirits market have faced a challenging six months, marked by a wave of negative headlines that have painted a bleak picture of the industry’s health. At the beginning of the year, data from restructuring firm BTG warned nearly one in five of all of Scotland’s distilleries were facing financial distress, a total of 69 distillers, with a further 217 across England, Wales and Northern Ireland flagged as experiencing significant or critical financial stress in the second half of 2025. The outlook for the industry took another battering when the Scotch whisky division of drinks giant Pernod Ricard, Chivas Brothers, reported a five per cent decline in sales. Since then, the bad news has continued unrelentingly. The owner of The Macallan, Highland Park and The Glenrothes, Edrington Group, has reported a 23 per cent decline in pre-tax profit, with sales down 14 per cent. A week later, Ian Macleod Distillers reported pre-tax profits down 45.8 per cent as bulk whisky demand declines at a “significant double-digit rate.” As Scotch whisky sales have declined, brands have dramatically scaled back investments in visitor experiences – and not just in whisky. Diageo said last month it’s closing the Aviation Gin visitor centre in Portland after buying the brand for up to $610m in 2022. The group has also proposed shutting the visitor centre at its Clynelish Distillery in Brora this year. Elsewhere, English wine producer Nyetimber, which completed its acquisition of The Lakes Distillery for £71m in 2024, has decided to permanently close the distillery’s visitor centre, bistro, and shop in April 2026. Taken at face value, these developments support the argument that people are drinking less and spending less on alcohol, but the reality is far more nuanced. Scotch whisky suffers from changing tastes In its fiscal half-year results presentation, Diageo highlighted research by BGS Kantar on alcohol consumption dynamics between 2024 and 2025. In the key markets of the US, the UK, India, and Mexico, the research found that, on average, households were consuming spirits more frequently. In the UK, for example, household penetration was up 1.2 percentage points, with frequency of consumption up 16 per cent. However, across all markets, the number of servings per occasion dropped between zero per cent and seven per cent, which might seem notable, but was largely offset by an increase in frequency. Meanwhile, IWSR forecasts global consumption of spirits will fall by two per cent by 2035, with wine to see a bigger drop (14 per cent), and beer dipping by one per cent Instead of a general, broad-based decline across all spirits, what seems to be happening is a shift in spending patterns. Premiumisation is out, while Ready-to-Drink (RTD) and flavoured drinks are gaining market share. For example, Diageo has seen an increase in spending on Scotch Whisky leader Johnnie Walker, particularly on special editions, and on Guinness. Both of these are particularly fashionable brands at a slightly higher but not overly premium price point. It has also seen an increase in sales of its Crown Royal Canadian Whisky, blackberry flavour, a social media and flavour sensation. This is supported by data from Edrington, which noted in its results that sales of 25- and 30-year-old Macallans, costing more than £1,000, fell while the cheaper 12-year-old, which can come in at less than £70 a bottle, recorded double-digit percentage growth. Meanwhile, the Artisanal Spirits Company, owner of the membership-based Scotch Malt Whisky Society, which specialises in unique, single cask bottlings, recently reported that while overall SMWS sales “grew marginally,” bottle sales in the USA were “particularly strong” (up c10 per cent and Australia “was up double digits.” Like the 12-year-old, SMWS’ bottles usually come in at the £70 to £120 price point. RTDs take share There’s also a growing demand for RTD cocktails and spirits. This whole category is expected to grow at a compound annual rate of 11.5 per cent by 2035. In the celebrity-backed RTD and wider drinks market, growth is running even faster. As a recent article in The Spirits Business highlighted, in its 2025 preliminary data findings, IWSR noted there were “clear signs that premiumisation is taking a back seat, as TBA [total beverage alcohol] value fell for the first time since 2020, with spirits especially impacted”. Pressure was particularly notable in the $50-plus range of spirits. That’s partially price-driven and partially volume-driven. Diageo’s new CEO, Dave Lewis, has noted, “As economic pressure has found its way into the US category, we see a downtrading to smaller pack sizes.” As a result, producers have turned to miniature bottles and RTD cans that fit this market perfectly. Bacardi-owned Patrón has also opened a miniature-bottle dispensing vending machine inside London’s 77 nightclub, a sure sign, if ever there were one, that consumers are still seeking high-end spirits, but at lower volumes and price points. This must also be contrasted with the demand for one-of-a-kind bottles, such as those that went under the hammer in the Distillers One of One auction last year. Experts had been worried about demand, given the general market headwinds, but the 30 unique lots smashed expectations, raising £2.3m against an estimate of £1.4m. It’s only one example, but it does illustrate there are still those collectors out there who’re willing to spend big bucks. It’s clear the whisky and spirits market is undergoing a period of adjustment and change, but it’s not seeing the broad decline some might claim. Instead, what seems to be happening is de-premiumisation on one hand, where consumers trade down from bottles in the £200+ range, but also trade up to the mid-range bottles. They’re drinking less, but drinking better and that goes for RTDs as well – consumers are willing to pay more for that single serve. They’re also paying to drink what they want, not what they’re told to like. That’s bad news for brands that can’t or won’t adapt, but there’s a growing opportunity for those able to adapt and change with the times.

The Spirits Business|原題:Spirit Capital buys shuttered Killarney distillery

Spirit Capital buys shuttered Killarney distillery The private equity group behind Père Magloire Calvados has acquired Ireland’s Killarney Brewing & Distilling Company (KBD) site, which entered liquidation in July last year. Based in Zug, Switzerland, Spirit Capital confirmed it has completed its purchase of the Killarney Brewing & Distilling Company site for an undisclosed sum. The facility, located in Killarney, County Kerry, includes a brewery, distillery and visitor centre. KBD filed a petition seeking examinership in Ireland’s High Court on 16 April 2025, with James Anderson of Deloitte appointed as its examiner. However, the business failed to secure investment within the three-month timeframe set by the court, leading to redundancy for all 54 of its workers. Swiss private equity group Spirit Capital owns three Calvados brands and two Armagnacs through its French arm Spirit France Diffusion, which it acquired in 2007. The purchase of Killarney marks the company’s first move into Irish whiskey. Spirit Capital claims to boast more than 200 years of distilling heritage, with Calvados brands such as Boulard, Le Compte and Père Magloire in its portfolio. Spirit Capital also has “extensive experience in hospitality, brand development and premium beverage operations”, the business said. According to Spirit Capital, the Killarney site is “one of the most iconic and significant food, beverage and tourism assets in the region, with substantial investment already made in the distillery, brewery, visitor areas, hospitality spaces and associated infrastructure”. A spokesperson for Spirit Capital described the Irish whiskey facility as an “exceptional site” with “importance to Killarney, Kerry, the local community and the wider Irish food, drink and tourism sector”. It also noted its “long-term” commitment to the acquired business, with plans to “rebuild local employment”. “We have enormous respect for the work and ambition of all those previously involved, and our intention is to preserve that value and bring the facility back into productive use on a phased, responsible and properly managed basis,” the statement continued. “Our immediate priority is to complete the necessary transition work across safety, compliance, licensing, utilities, engineering and operational planning before activity is recommenced. “As the project moves forward, we intend to work constructively with local contractors, suppliers, professional advisers and stakeholders where possible. Rebuilding local employment and supporting the Killarney and Kerry brand will be central to our approach.” The company said its aim is to “build a business that Killarney and Kerry can be proud of, with distilling, brewing, hospitality and visitor experience all contributing positively to the local economy”. The combined distillery and brewery site opened in 2022 after delays, but struggled from the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, alongside tariff uncertainty, “global supply chain disruptions, rising input costs, and ongoing geopolitical and trading pressures”, KBD said last year. It had reached a preliminary deal with a US investor in early 2025 but it did not go ahead. KBD made a blended Irish whiskey, as well as a range of beers and a gin. Its inaugural whiskey, produced at the site, was initially due to launch in 2028. Spirit France operates three distilleries: two in Calvados, Normandy, and one in Armagnac. It also has three bottling lines and four cellars for ageing its spirits. Related news IWA director joins World Spirits Alliance board

Google News(Whisky 綜合)|原題:Bardstown Bourbon Company Launches Victoria Pineapple Barrel Finish Whiskey - The Whiskey Wash

Bardstown Bourbon Company has released Victoria Pineapple Barrel Finish Whiskey, a Kentucky-exclusive marriage of mature bourbon and rye inspired by rum maturation traditions. The whiskey goes on sale from July 24, 2026 for a suggested retail price of $139.99, with fewer than 350 nine-liter cases produced. The release blends 10 and 11-year-old bourbons with 11-year-old rye that were subsequently married and matured in Caribbean-sourced pineapple rum casks. The rum that previously filled those casks incorporates Victoria pineapples directly during maturation. Victoria pineapples are celebrated for their sweetness, aroma and historic connection to premium rum production in Barbados. “The goal was never to make whiskey taste like pineapple,” said Dan Callaway, master blender at Lofted Spirits. “The goal was to understand what made these barrels so special in the first place. We followed that trail all the way back to the creation process and found our way to a whiskey with a bold, tropical fruit, surrounded by rye and allspice.” The company aimed to honor the original rum-making process rather than simply use the barrels as finishing vessels. To achieve this, they matured the custom blend for 27 months. Fresh pineapple was then added to the barrels, mirroring the process behind the original rum. “Finishing with staves gave us the balance that helped integrate the pineapple character without losing the depth and complexity of the whiskey itself,” added Callaway. Bottled at 106 proof, the whiskey carries official tasting notes from the brand of bold tropical fruit, rye, spice and allspice on the opening. The palate offers pineapple, cherry and toasted oak, evolving into vanilla crème and toffee. Victoria Pineapple Barrel Finish Whiskey is the first release from Bardstown Bourbon Company’s new Finishing Series. Each release in the new series will feature custom artwork. This year’s label was created by Louisville artist Margaret Archambault, who translated the whiskey’s flavor profile into an original work of art. Her work will also appear on this year’s national Discovery and Finishing releases later this summer. The whiskey will be available exclusively in Kentucky, including at the Bardstown Bourbon Company distillery and its Louisville Tasting Room. Based in Bardstown, Kentucky, the company describes itself as operating “the most modern, technically advanced whiskey distillery” on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail. The distillery has built its reputation on collaborative and transparent production, including a well-known collaborative distilling program that produces spirits for other brands.

Bardstown finishes whiskey with pineapple Lofted Spirits’ Bardstown Bourbon Company has introduced a Kentucky-exclusive expression, finished in pineapple rum casks sourced from the Caribbean. Victoria Pineapple Barrel Finished Whiskey is the first release from Bardstown Bourbon’s Finishing Series, evolving from the brand’s popular limited edition collaborations. The whiskeys will be presented in new packaging featuring unique, custom artwork with each release. The first release is named after the Victoria pineapple, a variety known for its sweet taste, fragrant aroma, and historical ties to premium rum production in Barbados. The experimental ‘tropical’ whiskey combines Bourbon aged 10-11 years and 11-year-old rye. It is finished in rum barrels with oak staves and pineapple. “The goal was never to make whiskey taste like pineapple,” said Dan Callaway, master blender at Lofted Spirits. “The goal was to understand what made these barrels so special in the first place. We followed that trail all the way back to the creation process and found our way to a whiskey with a bold, tropical fruit, surrounded by rye and allspice.” The custom whiskey blend matured for 27 months before fresh pineapple was added to the barrels, mirroring the original rum’s creation process to reveal the developing tropical notes in the whiskey. Bottled at 53% ABV, the expression offers aromas of bold tropical fruit, rye, spice, and allspice. On the palate, it displays notes of pineapple, cherry, toasted oak, vanilla crème, and toffee. “Finishing with staves gave us the balance that helped integrate the pineapple character without losing the depth and complexity of the whiskey itself,” Callaway explained. The label artwork for the release was created by Louisville artist Margaret Archambault. Her work will be unveiled along with this year’s national Discovery and Finishing releases later in the summer. Victoria Pineapple Barrel Finished will be available from 24 July exclusively in Kentucky, including the Bardstown Bourbon Co distillery and Louisville Tasting Room. It is limited to less than 350 nine-litre cases and retails for US$139.99 for a 750ml bottle. Bardstown Bourbon Co is owned by Lofted Spirits, formed in March 2025. The company also manages Green River Distilling. Earlier this year, Bardstown partnered with whisky maker Mars to launch a limited edition blend that combines Bourbon and Japanese single malts. Google News(Whisky 綜合)|原題:‘Fantastic time to be a whisky drinker’ as Hedonism launches own-label range - The Drinks Business

‘Fantastic time to be a whisky drinker’ as Hedonism launches own-label range Mayfair drinks boutique Hedonism Wines may be best-known for its well-heeled clientele and high-priced bottles, but the retailer’s new own-label whiskies aim to combine exclusivity with affordability – aided, ironically enough, by difficult trading conditions in the whisky market. Richard Woodard reports. The recent downturn in the rare whisky category has been difficult to ignore, consumers voting with their wallets as prices reached unsustainable levels, exacerbated by deteriorating macroeconomic conditions. But now there are signs of a recalibration in the sector and, as pricing softens, might people be drawn back into the market? It can be hard to measure this kind of shift but, even at the very top of the market, launches appear to have been priced more realistically this year. https://www.thedrinksbusiness.com/2026/05/quality-over-quantity-for-todays-rare-whisky-releases/ Now upscale London drinks retailer Hedonism Wines has unveiled its first own-label single malt whiskies, and the chatter surrounding the launch centres more on affordability than luxury. The first Hedonism whiskies are a pair of single-cask, cask-strength single malts: a 20-year-old Laphroaig (52.3% ABV) at £195 a bottle, and a 15-year-old Bunnahabhain (50.5% ABV) at £115. The Laphroaig was filled into a refill ex-Bourbon cask on 21 September 2005 and bottled in April; the Bunna’ was distilled on 11 November 2010, matured in a first-fill ex-Sherry hogshead and bottled in February. The Laphroaig is said to show its trademark “maritime, medicinal and heavily peated” character, while the Bunnahabhain displays “rich, nutty Sherry notes” and the distillery’s “signature oily texture and coastal character”. In both cases, the quantities are small: only 128 bottles and 59 bottles respectively – and the casks are now empty. According to David Mellor, Hedonism’s head of spirits, the move into own-label independent bottling was a logical next step, given that the retailer has been collaborating with distilleries on exclusive products for more than a decade. He adds: “Whisky pricing has broadly moved down since the post-pandemic peak, and this has also affected casks. As bottlers and distilleries look to reduce their inventories, there’s an opportunity to acquire some very special casks. “More importantly, it’s about what our customers are asking for. What a certain type of client increasingly wants is the thing an independent bottling can offer that an official release often can’t: full transparency on cask type, distillation date, outturn and the specific reasoning why this cask was chosen.” Two single malts and fewer than 200 bottles constitutes a relatively low-key start to Hedonism’s own-label programme, but there’s more to come, including a “heavily Sherried” 19-year-old Glen Garioch, a 15-year-old Bowmore and a “highly limited” 50-year-old Scotch slated for release later this year. Partner Content Beyond that, the liquid will have the final say. “We’re not putting pressure on ourselves to meet a release schedule or commit to a minimum number of bottlings per year – if we find something incredible, we’ll bottle it; if we don’t, we’ll keep searching,” Mellor explains. For now, Scotch is the sole focus, but he admits that single-barrel Bourbon would be “the logical next step”, adding: “We’ve secured some very interesting rum casks, which may make an appearance in 2027, but nothing concrete at this stage.” The overriding emphasis of the range, Hedonism says, is on “flavour, individuality and value, rather than collectability” – a signal, perhaps, of how the market has shifted after the fervour of the late 2010s and early 2020s. The thinking that underpins the choice of the whiskies, Mellor explains, is “a triangulation between distillery reputation, liquid quality and price point. We’re looking to bring great whiskies from well-loved distilleries to clients at a price that makes sense in the current market”. He cites the Laphroaig 20-year-old as a “prime example” of this philosophy. No doubt the central ethos is, at least in part, a response to changing market conditions – but those same conditions enable retailers like Hedonism to source quality casks with good age and provenance at more competitive prices in the first place. “There’s no denying that the market has fallen significantly from the heights of the post-pandemic boom, and it’s very much a buyer’s market in some respects – it’s part of a cycle we’ve seen repeated over the decades,” says Mellor. “We believe this is a fantastic time to be a whisky drinker … and a good time to be a bottler. Lots of fantastic casks are now looking for new homes as investors, blenders and distilleries rationalise their inventories. I expect we’ll see more delicious whiskies at wallet-friendly prices in the near future.” Related news Sotheby's sees fine wine and spirits sales rise 12% Diageo India: 'Craft spirits are defined less by scale and more by intent' Open all hours: a new era for fine wine and spirits retailing

The Bardstown Bourbon Victoria Pineapple Barrel Finished Whiskey is the company's first expression within its Finishing Series that sees it pairing its whiskey with fruit for an unexpected new kind of experience. The spirit takes an experimental approach that starts off with bourbon aged for 10 to 11 years and 11-year-old rye that are combined before being finished in rum barrels. The spirit is also paired with oak staves and pineapple to impart further flavor intrigue, and is matured for 27 months to give it a rum-honoring profile. Master Blender Dan Callaway commented on the Bardstown Bourbon Victoria Pineapple Barrel Finished Whiskey saying, "The goal was never to make whiskey taste like pineapple. The goal was to understand what made these barrels so special in the first place. We followed that trail all the way back to the creation process and found our way to a whiskey with a bold, tropical fruit, surrounded by rye and allspice." Pineapple-Finished Whiskeys Bardstown Victoria Pineapple Barrel Finished Whiskey is Aromatic Trend Themes - Tropical Barrel Finishing — Fruit-influenced finishing methods are expanding premium whiskey flavor profiles while creating room for limited-edition spirits that bridge bourbon, rum, and tropical tasting notes. - Hybrid Spirit Profiles — Cross-category maturation techniques are blurring traditional alcohol boundaries, giving producers new ways to attract adventurous consumers seeking layered and unconventional drinking experiences. - Ingredient-led Storytelling — Narratives centered on production origins and flavor discovery are elevating spirits branding by turning experimental ingredients into markers of craft, scarcity, and sensory exploration. Industry Implications - Premium Spirits — Experimental finishes and aged blends are reshaping high-end whiskey portfolios with distinctive releases designed for collectors, enthusiasts, and flavor-driven luxury buyers. - Craft Distilling — Small-batch production models are well positioned for unconventional maturation trials that differentiate brands in a competitive market increasingly defined by novelty and authenticity. - Hospitality and Mixology — Bars and tasting venues can benefit from distinctive fruit-finished whiskeys as premium menu anchors that support tropical riffs, guided tastings, and experiential beverage programs.

Google News(Whisky 綜合)|原題:The Colorado Distillery Inspired By—And Reimagining—Irish Single Pot Still Whiskey - Forbes

When it comes to international whiskeys, I have an admitted soft spot for Irish single pot still. It’s a widely popular, consistently delicious, yet often misunderstood spirit with a fascinating history—and a flavor spectrum that’s underexplored, even today. It’s a spirit that inspires homage. Indeed, numerous American distillers have crafted their own takes on single pot still, to varying degrees of quality. But one Colorado distillery isn’t just tinkering with the style. Instead, Talnua Distillery—located in Arvada, Colorado—has dedicated its existence to single pot still whiskey, focusing production on a uniquely American version. And after sampling a range of their selections, I believe Talnua Distillery is on a path worth following. It’s worth giving a quick primer on single pot still whiskey. In Ireland, the style comes with the following rules, most recently codified in 2014. - Must contain at least 30% malted barley and at least 30% unmalted barley - Cannot contain more than 5% other (unmalted) cereal grains like wheat, rye, or oats. Currently, some in the industry are pushing for an expansion of this allowable percentage, which could expand flavor profiles while keeping in line with some historically inspired mashbills. - Must be distilled on copper pot stills. Though single pot still whiskey is traditionally and most commonly triple distilled, some producers utilize double distillation. - Must be produced at a single distillery - Must be aged in wooden casks—in Ireland—for at least three years before bottling The style is believed to have emerged as a result of a 1785 tax the British imposed on malt—hence distillers gradually using more unmalted barley. The result of the malted/unmalted barley mashbills is famously a creamy texture with a uniquely sweet and spicy medley of flavor. After a sharp decline in popularity, single pot still has reemerged in recent decades to rapid growth and popularity. Today, it’s produced by numerous modern Irish distillers, and some famous brands include Redbreast, Green/Yellow/Red/Blue Spot, Dingle Single Pot Still, Teeling Single Pot Still, and Powers. So how did Colorado come to boast a distillery focused almost entirely on single pot still ? Talnua was founded by Patrick and Meagan Miller, who first encountered Irish single pot still on a honeymoon trip to Galway. The Millers channeled their passion into entrepreneurship and founded Talnua in 2017. The brand is centered around a motto of “Gaelic Tradition Meets American Pioneerism,” and Talnua claims it’s first America’s first single pot still whiskey distillery. Talnua produces whiskey from a mashbill of 50% malted barley and 50% unmalted barley. The whiskey undergoes wort-separated fermentation prior to triple distillation in copper pot stills. Of course, Talnua can’t legally call its products “Irish whiskey,” or anything that might invite confusion with a protected Irish designation. So its products are generally marketed as “American single pot still whiskey” or “single pot still American whiskey.” To be clear, Talnua isn’t the only American distillery producing in the single pot still style. Based in Minnesota, Keeper’s Heart produces an American pot still whiskey, also from a 50% malted/unmalted barley mashbill. (Keeper’s Heart is also producing rye and bourbon, under the leadership of master distiller Brian Nation, who previously ran production at Ireland’s historic Midleton Distillery.) Brooklyn’s Kings County Distillery also sells an “Irish homage whiskey” inspired by traditional single pot still production. Yet among numerous U.S. producers big and small, Talnua’s products stand out, both in flavor and pedigree. The distillery leans heavily into the bottled-in-bond designation, putting a truly American spin on the Irish still. Some of those bottlings include: - American White Oak Cask Whiskey Bottled-in-Bond: A single pot still whiskey matured in new charred oak barrels, which Talnua emphasizes to signify an American aging pedigree. It’s aged at least four years and bottled at 100 proof. - Bourbon Cask & Stave Series Whiskey Bottled-in-Bond: A single pot still whiskey matured in ex-bourbon casks with virgin charred American oak staves, aged at least four years and bottled at 100 proof. - Sherry Cask Whiskey Bottled-in-Bond: A similar profile, finished in Oloroso sherry casks Talnua also produces a Peated Cask whiskey, bottled at 86 proof, as well as Heritage Selection Whiskey, which is a bespoke blend of in-house pot still and Irish single grain whiskeys. A vatted expression—Continuum Cask—utilizes a “solera-inspired continuum cask” for additional maturation. After tasting through most of the core lineup, I quickly fell in “like” with Talnua’s whiskey. It’s richly spiced on the nose, and the house profile leans toward cream soda loaded up with baking spices and orchard fruit. At 100 proof, the bottled-in-bond expressions exist a step above easy drinking, with enough potency to satisfy American palates. (There’s truth to the stereotype that we like higher ABV!) But what made me fall in “love” was Talnua’s rarest, most premium expression: Olde Saint’s Keep Special Release Whiskey. Generally limited to around 1,200 bottles, Olde Saint’s Keep takes the brand’s single pot still whiskey and finishes it for between 6 and 9 months in casks from other Colorado distilleries. For the 2026 edition, those casks included: - Rum casks from Bear Creek Distillery - Apple brandy casks from Deerhammer Distilling Co. - Rye whiskey casks from The Family Jones Distillery - Wheat whiskey casks from Laws Whiskey House - Single malt casks from Spirit Hound Distillers - Bourbon casks from Storm King Distilling Co. The final product was proofed to 100, and bottles retail for $110. While I enjoyed Talnua’s core releases, I found the finish could lack a little intensity compared to the palate. That could partly be a function of time; with more age, I anticipate those whiskeys could develop lengthier, even creamier finishes. But Olde Saint’s Keep nailed the finish, right from the start. The medley of additional casks gave the whiskey more structure—and, if I had to guess, more sugars—that leads to lingering flavors, which evolve for minutes after a sip. It was a fun exercise to try and suss out the impact of each of the six cask types. But frankly, I ended up quitting that pursuit and just sat back to enjoy a very nice dram. As more Americans (hopefully) embrace single pot still whiskeys, it’s encouraging to see domestic producers roll out their own versions. In my mind, Talnua certainly sits toward the front of that pack.

Google News(Scotch/Distillery)|原題:William Grant & Sons Eyes Growth as India-UK FTA Cuts Scotch Prices - Whalesbook

William Grant & Sons expects a 7-10% price drop for Scotch whisky in India following the India-UK Free Trade Agreement. The company aims to leverage this shift to expand its premium spirits portfolio and reach a broader consumer base as demand rises. Detailed Coverage William Grant & Sons, the producer of premium brands like Glenfiddich and The Balvenie, is preparing to expand its footprint in the Indian market as the India-UK Free Trade Agreement begins to lower customs duties on imported Scotch. The company expects these duty changes to lead to a 7-10% reduction in retail prices for consumers, although the final benefit may vary depending on local state excise policies. Expanding Beyond Whisky While Scotch whisky remains the company's core business in India, management is focusing on diversifying the local product portfolio. The company is evaluating the introduction of global brands such as Tullamore D.E.W. Irish whiskey, Milagro tequila, and Reyka vodka. This shift toward a broader range of premium spirits is intended to capitalize on the increasing trend of premiumization, where Indian consumers are gradually moving toward higher-value products. Financial Growth and Market Position The company has demonstrated rapid financial growth in recent years. According to financial data, operating revenue for the India business surged to ₹338 crore in FY24, compared to ₹101 crore in FY21. Net profit also saw a substantial rise, growing to ₹85.4 crore from ₹5.2 crore during the same period. The company reported double-digit growth for FY26, signaling strong demand for its existing portfolio despite the historic barrier of high import duties. Changing Consumer Preferences Market trends indicate that growth is shifting away from traditional metropolitan centers. Emerging cities now account for approximately 45% of the company's business, and this share is expected to rise over the coming decade as rising disposable incomes drive demand for imported spirits. Younger consumers are increasingly prioritizing quality, a behavioral shift that aligns with the company’s strategy to focus on luxury segments rather than mass-market, lower-priced categories. Market Outlook and Challenges While the reduction in duties is a supporting factor, investors may track whether the company can successfully navigate the complexities of India's state-specific alcohol regulations. Because liquor is a state subject, excise structures and distribution policies often vary, which can impact the speed and effectiveness of national pricing strategies. The company’s ability to manage brand distribution and maintain profit margins while investing in new product launches will remain a key factor for its long-term performance in the country.

Google News(Scotch/Distillery)|原題:Glenfiddich-maker eyes wider India portfolio as UK FTA cuts Scotch prices - livemint.com

Scottish distiller William Grant & Sons expects lower tariffs under the India-UK free trade agreement (FTA) to make imported Scotch whisky more accessible in India, helping attract new consumers to the category even as it prepares to expand its portfolio beyond its core whisky brands. “The immediate impact is going to be different state by state, but what is likely to happen is a 7-10% reduction in consumer prices,” Kartik Mohindra, managing director, William Grant & Sons India, told Mint in an interview. "It is not going to drastically alter the dynamics altogether, but it is a strong consumer-facing price reduction." The FTA, which came into force in July, lowers customs duties on Scotch whisky in phases. Mohindra said the reduction is expected to soften prices across several states, although the extent of the benefit will depend on local excise structures and whether distributors or companies determine retail pricing. High-growth market India has emerged as one of the world's fastest-growing markets for imported Scotch whisky, although high import duties and state levies have largely confined premium international brands to affluent consumers. For William Grant, the country has become one of its five largest markets globally, Mohindra said. “We know India is a high-growth market, and consumers have high aspirations for Scotch. Pricing was a deterrent. This softens that deterrent.” He said the lower prices were to encourage first-time buyers to enter the imported Scotch category while also prompting existing consumers to trade up to older expressions within the Glenfiddich range. William Grant's India portfolio includes Glenfiddich, The Balvenie, Monkey Shoulder, Grant's blended Scotch and Hendrick's Gin. Whisky continues to dominate its business, with Glenfiddich and Monkey Shoulder leading sales, while Hendrick's is its principal brand in white spirits. This month, Glenfiddich put out a new global visual identity in India. India's total spirits market, categories including whisky, rum, vodka, gin, brandy, was around 408 million nine-litre cases at the end of 2024, according to the alcohol association CIABC. Of this, whisky dominated with about 250 million cases of the brown spirit sold. Wider portfolio The company plans to widen its portfolio in the country over the next few years. It will introduce a new Hendrick's gin expression shortly and is evaluating the launch of additional global brands as trade agreements make imported spirits more competitive. It also owns brands including Irish whisky Tullamore D.E.W., tequila Milagro and premium vodka Reyka globally. Mohindra said the company is watching how trade agreements evolve before deciding when to introduce more of these categories in India. “We will periodically look at expanding our portfolio so that we have a wider footprint,” he said, adding that an India-EU trade agreement could also create opportunities for products such as Irish whisky. While the company continues to expand its range, Mohindra said it has no plans to compete aggressively in lower-priced segments, choosing instead to focus on premium and luxury spirits. William Grant did not disclose absolute sales volumes but said its India business recorded double-digit growth in FY26. It said Glenfiddich 12 Year Old remains its biggest volume driver, while demand for older expressions such as the 15 Year Old and 18 Year Old continues to outpace the broader portfolio, reflecting consumers' willingness to spend more on premium spirits. At the close of FY25, the company had an income from operations of ₹348 crore and a net profit of ₹49 crore, showed its latest available financial statements accessed via business intelligence platform Tofler. New markets Growth is also becoming less concentrated in the country's largest cities. Mohindra estimated that around 45% of the company's business now comes from emerging cities, compared with 55% from metropolitan markets. Over the next decade, he expected non-metro markets to contribute an even larger share as rising incomes create new demand for imported spirits. “The major delta of growth is going to come from emerging cities,” he said, pointing to markets such as Jaipur, Lucknow and Indore. Changing drinking habits among younger consumers is unlikely to derail long-term demand, he said. While Gen Z consumers may drink less frequently than previous generations, they are increasingly choosing higher-priced products over larger quantities. “I don't think people are drinking to lose control anymore. They're drinking less but drinking better,” he said.

Islay’s Kilchoman distillery has launched the first edition of its Kilchoman Family Collection, a four-strong lineup headlined by a 20-year-old single malt. The 20-year-old expression is the oldest general release in the distillery’s history. The collection was selected during the Wills family’s annual review of maturing stock at the Kilchoman warehouses, with each of the four releases chosen individually by the five members of Kilchoman’s founding family. The distillery said the casks “reflect their personal tastes, shared passion, and the developing character of Kilchoman.” The four expressions are aged 11, 14, 18, and 20 years old. The 14-year-old is a 100% Islay expression, distilled in 2011 from barley grown at Kilchoman’s Rockside Farm. The barley was malted on-site and peated to 20ppm. The remaining three expressions, aged 11, 18, and 20 years old, were produced using heavily peated barley at 50ppm sourced from Port Ellen Maltings. The distillery said this offers “a contrasting style that reflects Kilchoman’s traditional peat profile.” The collection also showcases the influence of ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks as the distillery reaches more significant age statements. As a family, we have dedicated the past two decades to crafting the finest spirit and selecting the very best casks, so seeing that commitment and care come to fruition is very rewarding.” Kilchoman is a family-run farm distillery based on Rockside Farm on the west coast of Islay, Scotland. Wills established the distillery in 2005 with the aim of taking whisky production “back to its grass roots.” The distillery’s 100% Islay range is described as Islay’s only Single Farm Single Malt Scotch Whisky. It represents a revival of traditional farm distilling, with the barley grown, malted, distilled, matured and bottled on-site. Kilchoman was one of the first new distilleries to open on Islay in more than 120 years.

Google News(Scotch/Distillery)|原題:Inside the Dewar’s Archive, Where the Past Keeps Producing New Whisky - The Whiskey Wash

This year, Dewar’s marks 180 years since John Dewar opened a merchant shop on Perth’s High Street in 1846. Anniversaries like this usually get told through the liquid, and there is a good story there, which I covered in a separate piece with Master Blender Stephanie Macleod. There is another side to it, though, and it lies in the careful preservation and stewardship of some iconic Dewar’s artifacts, and the collection itself is unlike anything else in the world of Scotch whisky. Jacqui Seargeant has been the person looking after the Dewar’s archive for most of her career. She holds a Master of Arts in History from the University of Glasgow and a postgraduate degree in Archive Administration from the University of Liverpool, and she joined John Dewar & Sons in 1999 as Company Archivist. She is now Global Heritage Manager and Archivist, overseeing the historical collections across the wider portfolio, and in 2025 she was made a Keeper of the Quaich. Talking to her, what comes across most clearly is that she does not only treat the archive as a place where the past is stored. She treats it as somewhere the company goes looking for its next idea. Dewar’s Archive: Full of Voices & Bottles At its most basic, an archive is a place where things are kept. Dewar’s has 180 years of paperwork, bottles, photographs, and objects behind it, and most people would reasonably assume the job is to keep all of it safe and in order. That is part of what Seargeant does, but the more interesting part of the work is understanding what the material actually says about the company that made it. She is a custodian of the same 180 years as Stephanie Macleod, working from a different standpoint. Ask Seargeant which part of the collection tells her the most, and she does not point to the business records. “It is often a combination of material that tells the richest story, but if I had to choose, I would say correspondence and our bottle collection,” she said. The letters are the part that gives her the people. “The correspondence allows you to hear the voices of the people who built the business and understand how they thought, what challenges they faced, and how ambitious they were,” she said. The bottles do a different job. There are more than 1,000 of them, running from the 1880s through to the present day. “This element is an amazing time capsule of the company’s blending prowess and identity through time,” she said. What the run of bottles shows is a company that was busier and more commercially restless in its early years than its reputation might suggest. “You realise how creative and innovative DEWAR’S was in the early days, with numerous blends produced for different markets, price points, and consumers,” she said. Dewar’s made a Toddy Whisky, sold on the understanding that it would be mixed with hot water, honey, and lemon rather than drunk neat. Alongside it sits the packaging record, with White Label going back to 1899, giving Seargeant a complete timeline of how the label has shifted over more than a century while staying recognizable. When Archives Become Inspiration For The Future This is where Seargeant’s view of the job separates from the storage assumption. “Archives are often thought of as places that preserve history, but for us they are also places that inspire the future,” she said. In practice that means the collection feeds brand education, packaging design, the visitor experience, product development, and new releases. The clearest example is one Macleod tells from her side too. Working through the old blending books in the archive, Macleod found processes that led to the Double Double range, the four-stage ageing series that has become the most technically ambitious part of the Dewar’s lineup. “Our Master Blender Stephanie was inspired by processes in our old blending books which led to the creation of her award winning Double Double range,” Seargeant said. That range went on to produce the Dewar’s 32 Year Old, named Whisky of the Year at the 2020 International Whisky Competition against both blends and single malts. Her other favorite find works differently. “One of my favorite examples was discovering historical references connecting DEWAR’S to the origins of the Highball, a story that has since become an important part of how we talk about the brand around the world,” she said. The Highball has found a wide audience again in recent years, and the archive gave Dewar’s a legitimate claim to it. That distinction is what she keeps coming back to. “The archive gives us knowledge and authenticity. It allows us to tell stories with confidence because they are grounded in real people, real events, and real achievements,” she said. Tommy Dewar’s Publicity Machine One of those real people was Tommy Dewar, who, looking at the material in the archive, was clearly a figure ahead of his time. “Tommy Dewar, in particular, was constantly experimenting with new forms of advertising and consumer engagement,” Seargeant said. It is the part of the collection that tends to surprise people most. “One of the things that continually surprises people is just how forward-thinking the Dewar family was,” she said. The company produced one of the earliest cinematic advertisements for a drinks brand, and it put up what was the largest mechanical advertising sign in Europe in the early 1900s. Both were expensive bets on formats that barely existed yet. The point is not that Tommy Dewar invented anything that came after him, but that the instinct behind the work has stayed the same while everything around it changed. “The channels may have changed, but the desire to create memorable experiences, tell compelling stories, and connect with consumers in unexpected ways has been part of DEWAR’S DNA for generations,” said Seargeant. 15,000 Items, 200 on Show Most of what Seargeant chooses to put on display ends up at Dewar’s Aberfeldy Distillery in Perthshire, the Highland home of the Dewar’s blend and of Aberfeldy single malt. The archive is a substantial part of what visitors come for, and it has been since the doors opened. When the visitor centre launched in April 2000, an interactive archival museum was there from day one, and a new heritage exhibition arrived in 2023 to mark 125 years of Aberfeldy single malt. I visited in June 2024, and the historical material is not a side room you pass on the way to the stills. It runs through the whole experience. The scale of the collection makes editing unavoidable. “The collection has more than 15,000 items in it, yet you only see about 200 in the museum at any one time, so we must be very selective, and we can change displays to keep them fresh,” Seargeant said. What reaches the museum floor is a fraction of what she looks after. The test she applies is whether something still says anything. “We look for stories and objects that reflect enduring values such as quality, craftsmanship, and innovation,” she said. Those themes hold up across the full 180 years, which is what makes them useful as a filter. Plenty stays in the boxes, and not because it lacks interest. Some pieces are there to explain a moment rather than to be revived, like a celebratory telegram the company received during its centenary celebrations in 1946. Others are simply enjoyable. The archive holds a 1930s Dewar’s picture disk gramophone record and an automaton advert

Glenglassaugh fans needn’t worry about the Scottish distillery’s scaled-back production. Three new single cask whiskies have just been unveiled. They’re not released directly by Glenglassaugh, however. Rare Finds, an independent bottler from Edinburgh, has brought them to market. For this exclusive series, Rare Find selected three casks from the Glenglassaugh distillery. Each whisky received a different finish: rum, madeira, or ruby port. The releases showcase just how dramatically a whisky’s character and that of its distillery can evolve through different cask types. Glenglassaugh is known for a fruity, honeyed distillery character, lifted by a gentle maritime freshness. Perched on the shores of the Moray Firth in the Scottish Highlands, its coastal DNA meets boldly seasoned casks in these bottlings, layering on tropical, spicy, and fruit-forward notes. Which new Glenglassaugh whiskies have been released? The Rare Find Glenglassaugh Collection features the following 3 single cask whiskies: - Glenglassaugh 10 Year Old: Finished for 19 months in a first-fill Foursquare rum cask, limited to 234 bottles. - Glenglassaugh 9 Year Old Madeira Finish: Finished for 11 months in a first-fill madeira octave, limited to 53 bottles. - Glenglassaugh 9 Year Old Ruby Port Finish: Finished for 11 months in a first-fill ruby port octave, limited to just 48 bottles. Detailed tasting notes for each whisky have also been provided. We’ve listed them below. What are the tasting notes for the new Glenglassaugh whiskies? Glenglassaugh 10 Year Old Foursquare Rum Finish - Nose: Wild honey, caramel, peach, fresh citrus, green leaves, and unripe banana. - Palate: Toffee, caramel, apricot with lemon, golden tobacco, and cinnamon. - Finish: Toasted oak, dry cinnamon, stone fruits, and lingering tropical sweetness. ABV: 54.6% Glenglassaugh 9 Year Old Madeira Finish - Nose: Orange and lemon zest, raisins, digestive biscuits, ginger, and red and black berries. - Palate: Dark berry syrup, chocolate cake, candied orange, pepper, and cinnamon. - Finish: Long and spicy, with berries, cinnamon, and gently fading chocolate. ABV: 52.7% Glenglassaugh 9 Year Old Ruby Port Finish - Nose: Strawberry tart, raspberries with cream, butter biscuits, mirabelle plums, and milk chocolate. - Palate: A full-bodied texture with mixed forest fruits, ginger, cinnamon, chocolate cake, and a hint of cask char. - Finish: Long, with stewed red fruits and soft, lingering chocolate. ABV: 52.2% Where can you buy the new Glenglassaugh whiskies? The Rare Find Glenglassaugh Collection will be available from 30 July 2026 at selected Rare Find stockists. Each bottling has an RRP of 79 pounds. Given the limited runs, these Glenglassaugh whiskies are likely to sell out quickly.

Google News(Scotch/Distillery)|原題:Top 5 Budget-Friendly Drams for Savvy Whisky Drinkers - The Whiskey Wash

Dewar's 8 Year Old Japanese Smooth(水楢橡木的優雅詮釋)、Laphroaig 10 Year Old Cask Strength(泥煤愛好者必飲)、Arran 10 Year Old(現代蘇格蘭威士忌的誠實代表)、GreatDrams Founders' Choice(雪莉桶金牌酒款)、Benromach 10 Year Old(低調但完整的日常單一麥芽)。

Ask ten whisky drinkers what “budget whisky” means and you’ll probably get ten different answers. For some it’s anything under £30. Others won’t look below £60. Personally, I’ve never thought the price tag tells you very much at all. After reviewing and tasting thousands of whiskies over the years, I’ve learnt that some expensive bottles simply don’t justify the money, while others costing half as much continue to surprise me every time I pour them. This isn’t a list of the cheapest whiskies on the shelf. It’s a list of bottles that consistently deliver more than their price suggests. Every one of them has earned its place through quality rather than clever marketing. Dewar’s 8 Year Old Japanese Smooth Mizunara oak has almost become a marketing buzzword in recent years, but there are good reasons why Japanese coopers value it so highly. Its grain structure differs significantly from American and European oak, often producing delicate notes of sandalwood, coconut and fragrant spice that are difficult to recreate elsewhere. The challenge is integrating those flavours without allowing them to dominate. Dewar’s gets that balance right. The first thing I noticed when I tasted it wasn’t coconut, as so many people expect, but a gentle incense-like note sitting behind ripe stone fruit and vanilla. As the whisky opened up, toasted oak and soft baking spices emerged, adding depth without losing the approachable character that has always made Dewar’s such an easy drink. The Whiskey Wash is protected by reCAPTCHA, and the Google Privacy Policy and Terms of Service apply. If you’re curious about Mizunara but don’t want to spend three figures exploring it, this is an excellent place to begin. Laphroaig 10 Year Old Cask Strength Every peat drinker has a bottle they come back to when they want reminding why they fell in love with Islay. For me, this is one of them. The first time I poured it blind for friends, nobody guessed it as a whisky that represented such strong value. One thought it was a much older release. Another picked out smoked lemon peel before the unmistakable medicinal character announced itself. That’s the beauty of Laphroaig at cask strength. Yes, you get the iodine, sea spray, bonfire smoke and medicinal notes the distillery is famous for, but beneath all of that sits surprising sweetness. Citrus, vanilla and gentle tropical fruit stop the peat from ever becoming one-dimensional. It remains one of the strongest value propositions in peated Scotch, comfortably holding its own against bottles costing considerably more. Arran 10 Year Old If someone asked me to recommend one whisky that demonstrates modern Scotch at its most honest, Arran 10 Year Old would be close to the top of the list. There is nowhere to hide here. The spirit is bright and fruit-driven, the oak is measured, and every element feels in balance. Fresh apple, citrus and vanilla arrive first before gentle spice, and malt carry the whisky into a clean, satisfying finish. I’ve poured this for complete beginners and experienced collectors alike. The reaction is usually the same. Quiet appreciation followed by surprise when they discover the price. It doesn’t try to impress you, but simply delivers every single time. GreatDrams Founders’ Choice Blended Scotch Whisky Finally, from the GreatDrams Tales From the Barrel Collection, I can wholeheartedly recommend our GreatDrams Founders’ Choice Blended Scotch Whisky. This gold medal-winning Speyside dram is a small batch release featuring prominent sherry and vanilla notes, with caramelised pineapple, a subtle smokiness, and a bold, complex, savoury richness. It’s a fantastic sipper, yet works equally as well on ice, in a cocktail, or even with a mixer on a fine summer’s day. Benromach 10 Year Old Few distilleries produce whisky with as much character at this price point as Benromach. Its subtle peat often catches people off guard. Not enough to dominate the whisky, but enough to add another layer beneath the rich Speyside fruit. The first time I revisited it after a few years away, I found myself wondering why I hadn’t been drinking it more often. Stewed berries, orange peel and dark chocolate sit comfortably alongside soft smoke and gentle oak, creating a whisky that feels far older than its age statement suggests. It isn’t fashionable, and it doesn’t chase trends. It simply continues to be one of the most complete everyday single malts available. Great Whisky Doesn’t Have to be Expensive Expensive whisky is easy. Give a distillery enough mature stock, premium packaging and a healthy marketing budget and they’ll eventually produce something impressive. Finding genuine value is much harder. These are the bottles I continue to recommend because they’ve earned that recommendation over years of tasting rather than a single good first impression. None of them pretend to be something they aren’t. They simply deliver quality, character and consistency at prices that still feel refreshingly sensible. In a whisky world increasingly dominated by limited editions and ever-rising prices, that’s something worth celebrating.

A rich and layered whisky, which features on the shelves of most seasoned collectors, has been named ‘World’s Best Blended Scotch Whisky’ by The Beverage Testing Institute, popularly referred to as BevTest—a premier research, advisory, and engagement company based in Chicago, Illinois. Founded in 1981, it is best known for conducting independent, blind-tasting evaluations and publishing reviews for wines, beers, and spirits. Here’s all you need to know. This whisky has been called ‘World’s Best Blended Scotch Whisky’ according to BevTest and it costs Rs 9,500; Can you guess which one it is? According to the latest Beverage Testing Institute (BevTest) Scotch Whisky Judging, the Chivas Regal 18 Year Old is the World’s Best Blended Scotch Whisky. It earned a Gold Medal in the competition, scoring an impressive 91/100, and was praised by critics for its complexity and deep layers of sweet orange marmalade, dark chocolate, and spice. Crafted originally by Master Blender Colin Scott, the whisky contains an extraordinary 85 flavour notes in every drop. The award-winning blended scotch is created by first mashing malted barley with hot water to extract sugars, which are then fermented with yeast over 48 to 60 hours in large vats to create a wash with roughly 8 per cent alcohol by volume (ABV). Following this, the liquid undergoes its first round of distillation, where the wash is pumped into a wash still, producing a "low wines" spirit of about 20-25 per cent alcohol by volume (ABV). In the second distillation, the low wines go into a spirit still. The distiller then carefully discards the "heads" and "tails" and collects only the "heart" of the run. This pure, concentrated spirit, measuring around 65-70 per cent alcohol by volume (ABV), is what gets barreled. Following this, the individual malt and grain whiskies are matured separately in oak casks for at least 18 years. After this, the Master Blender hand-selects and marries these various matured whiskies together. The result is this rich, indulgent and multi-layered blended scotch that contains 85 unique flavour notes, which opens with aromas of dried fruits, buttery toffee and dark chocolate and carries traces of velvety dark chocolate, floral notes, and sweet, mellow smokiness on the palate. The finish is both extremely warm and long. The alcohol by volume (ABV) of Chivas Regal 18 Year Old is 40 per cent, which is standard for most blended scotch whiskies. A 750 ml bottle of Chivas Regal 18 costs Rs 9,500 in Mumbai, Rs 5,200 in Gurgaon, Rs 8,050 in Bangalore and Rs 7,000 in Goa.

Google News(Scotch/Distillery)|原題:Glenglassaugh just launched a brand new 15 year old single malt, that brings a touch of coastal air to your dram - shortlist.com

Glenglassaugh just launched a brand new 15 year old single malt, that brings a touch of coastal air to your dram A knee-slapper of a dram Hearing about a new single malt scotch is sort of like hearing Madonna is launching new music – firstly you think, another one?? before realising that getting a new release can never be a bad thing. Whilst the original Pop Princess isn’t sending new beats our way any time soon (that we know of) the coastal Scottish distillery Glenglassaugh is bringing the goods, having launched a new 15 Year Old Single Malt. The new whisky is matured in Pedro Ximenez sherry and Spanish wine casks meaning not only will you hear faint maracas as you sip but the whisky has a rich and deep profile, perfect for those who prefer a slightly darker touch to their malt. On the nose, you’ll immediately get the depth that comes with the long maturation, with notes of chocolate and coffee. This deepens to reflect the distillery’s signature touches of tropical fruit and a touch of sea salt, in case you didn’t already know it’s a coastal distillery the surfer dude equivalent of a whisky. Although like most 15 year old liquids it has a fairly complex layered palette, if you try it with a dash of water to open it up, you’ll find touches of salted treacle, caramelised date, balanced with juicy orange papaya, before it calls back that original coffee and chocolate aroma. Shaped by the influences of land and sea, the casks are filled with the distillery’s ripe style of spirit, which is formed from the local mineral-rich spring water. Then, it continues its maturation process in the coastal warehouses, giving the Glenglassaugh 15 Years Old its rich sun-kissed depth. As coastal air – and particularly that of the highlands – tends to be cooler, it slows the maturation process. Less of the raw liquid is evaporated, and the process happens at a slower pace due to the cooler temperature, unlike whiskies that spend months in warehouses in hotter climates. The 15 Year Old is the latest addition to Glenlassaugh’s range, whose core collection currently includes a 12 Year Old, a Sandend, and a Portsoy. Unlike the core trio, the 15 Year Old is on the lower side ABV wise, bottled at 46%, whilst the Sandend and Portsoy are 50.5%, and 49.1% respectively. The 15 Year Old is currently retailing for £85 and is available via The Whisky Exchange. - Código 1530 just released a new Rosa Tequila – and it's unlike any tequila you've ever tasted before Skip the search — follow Shortlist on Google News to get our best lists, news, features and reviews at the top of your feeds!

Google News(Scotch/Distillery)|原題:India halves the import duty on Scotch, so why aren’t whiskies not getting cheaper? - Whisky Monkeys

India’s cut to the import duty on Scotch whisky is now officially in effect. As of 15 July 2026, import duties on whisky have been halved. You’d expect consumers to be celebrating, but why hasn’t anyone noticed a difference yet? When taxes on a product go down, you naturally expect the price to follow. After all, that’s what happens when taxes or excise duties rise. Yet that isn’t the case for Scotch whisky headed to India. Shoppers hoping for cheaper bottles are currently out of luck. Recent reports from India show that many sellers haven’t adjusted their prices yet. That’s not because the trade deal was delayed, but because the lower import duty doesn’t immediately filter through to the retail shelf. Licensing, local taxes, price registrations, distribution margins, and existing inventory all slow down the drop in shelf prices. And even where the tariff is halved, the retail price almost never is. Why halving the tariff doesn’t halve the price of whisky A simple calculation makes it clear why prices don’t fall proportionally. The 150 percent duty was applied to the import value of the whisky—not the final amount a shopper pays in-store for a bottle. On top of import costs come transport, storage, and various taxes. And retailers still need to make a margin. So even if import duties are cut in half, shelf prices won’t be. Reuters reported during the run-up to the trade deal that market watchers expected price cuts of roughly ten percent for many imported whiskies, rather than a 50 percent plunge. Indian states largely determine the retail price The price of a bottle will also vary by Indian state. India does not have a single national alcohol market. Individual states set their own excise policies and use different systems for registration, distribution, and retail. As a result, a bottle of Scotch can be significantly pricier in one state than another. Some states impose fixed margins or price caps, while others operate state-run outlets or tightly controlled distribution channels. How much consumers ultimately benefit depends heavily on where the whisky is sold. New prices must be approved first Another reason for the lag is administrative. In many Indian states, importers and drinks producers can’t simply change their recommended prices. To set a new retail price, companies must file documents with local excise authorities. That may include approvals for price lists, labels, product registrations, and the prescribed maximum retail price. When will Scotch in India actually get cheaper? Consumers are expected to see prices ease gradually as new stock reaches stores and updated price lists are approved. That process will likely take weeks to months, varying by state, distributor, and brand. FAQ - What are India’s import duties on Scotch whisky? Since 15 July 2026, India’s import duty for qualifying Scotch whisky is 75 percent, down from 150 percent before the India–United Kingdom trade agreement took effect. - Will import duties be reduced further? Yes. The duty will be gradually cut from 75 percent to 40 percent over a 10-year period. To qualify for the reduced rate, the whisky must meet the agreement’s rules of origin. - Will this make Scotch whisky immediately much cheaper in India? Not necessarily. In addition to national import duties, states can impose their own excise taxes, levies, registration fees, and distribution margins. As a result, final retail prices will vary by state, and the tariff cut may not be passed on fully or immediately.

Google News(Scotch/Distillery)|原題:Kingsbarns Distillery rolls out new putting green to enhance visitor experience - Golf Business News

A FIFE whisky distillery has unveiled what is believed to be the first putting green at a Scottish distillery, bringing together two of the country’s most beloved traditions in a uniquely Scottish experience. Kingsbarns Distillery, just outside St Andrews in the East Neuk of Fife, was founded by local golf caddie Douglas Clement back in 2009. From day one, golf has been woven into the very fabric of the distillery, and this new putting green is the perfect way to celebrate this tangible connection to the sport. It also cements Kingsbarns place within one of Scotland’s most celebrated sporting and cultural landscapes. Created by Wemyss Family Spirits, the family-owned business behind the distillery, the attraction adds a new dimension to an established golf-inspired whisky collection, which includes the sold-out Caddie’s Dream release and the recent 19th Hole expression, created in collaboration with The Dunvegan Hotel – one of the world’s most famous 19th holes. William Wemyss, chairman of Wemyss Family Spirits, said: “Golf and whisky have always felt naturally connected, and particularly so in a place like St Andrews where both are woven into the very identity of the area.” Visitors can now combine a distillery tour and whisky tasting with time on the green and even those stopping by simply to enjoy the distillery’s café are encouraged to step outside and take a putt. William added: “We believed there was an opportunity to create something visitors would genuinely remember and which could only really exist in this part of Scotland. The idea of enjoying a dram at a working distillery and then stepping onto a green overlooking the St Andrews coastline felt like a natural and fitting way to bring those two worlds together. “As whisky tourism becomes more competitive internationally, experiences that feel authentic and distinctive become increasingly important. We believe this offers something genuinely different.” To celebrate the opening of the distillery, Kingsbarns will be running a special competition for visitors over the month of August. Distillery Manager Peter Holroyd will be taking to the course to set a score, with visitors invited to try and beat it. Anyone who does is entered into a prize draw to win the entire core range of Kingsbarns whiskies (Doocot, Balcomie & Coaltown). For details on the range of visitor experiences at

Bunnahabhain 推出限量版新酒 An Cuan Garbh No.1 登陸美國市場

If you’re a fan of single malt Scotch whisky, there’s one thing you know for sure. Whiskies from Islay are smoky and peated, right? Well, that’s right and wrong. Generally, single malt whiskies produced on the beloved sheep-filled Inner Hebrides island are made with peat-smoked barley, but not all. While some distilleries carry unpeated single malts, Bunnahabhain specifically crafts unpeated whiskies. And recently, this popular brand announced the release of a new, limited-edition expression. Bunnahabhain An Cuan Garbh No.1 The newest release from the distillery’s Westering Home Collection, Bunnahabhain An Cuan Garbh No.1 is a 15-year-old single malt Scotch whisky finished in White Port casks sourced from Portugal’s Douro Valley. The name translates to “The Rough Sea” and was created as an “exploration of movement and anticipation”, according to the brand. The second release in the Westering Home Collection, this limited-edition expression is a continuation of the brand’s three-year series of unique, creative whiskies. According to Bunnahabhain, the result is a 103.2-proof, multi-layered, memorable whisky that begins with aromas of honeysuckle, elderflower, orchard fruit, candied citrus, and soft coastal air. Sipping it reveals notes of peach, apricot, candied lemon zest, toasted malt, honeyed almonds, and gentle spice. The finish is long, warm, and ends with a mix of fruity sweetness and salty ocean brine. Sip it neat, on the rocks, or with a splash or two of water to open up the aromas and flavors. “Each release in the Westering Home Collection captures a different stage of the journey across and around Islay,” Julieann Fernandez, Master Blender at Bunnahabhain Distillery, says. “With An Cuan Garbh No.1, we focused on contrast and movement, the unpredictability of the sea against the steady evolution of maturation. The White Port casks add fruit and softness, while the whisky remains grounded in Bunnahabhain’s coastal style.” Where can I buy it?

Google News(Scotch/Distillery)|原題:Kingsbarns Unveils Scotland’s First Distillery Putting Green - The Whiskey Wash

Kingsbarns Distillery, located just outside St Andrews in the East Neuk of Fife, has unveiled what is believed to be the first putting green at a Scottish distillery. Created by Wemyss Family Spirits, the six-hole green unites whisky and golf in a single visitor destination. The distillery was founded by local golf caddie Douglas Clement in 2009. As such, golf has been part of the distillery since its inception, and the new putting green marks that connection to the sport. The attraction cements Kingsbarns’ place within one of Scotland’s most celebrated sporting and cultural landscapes. The green adds to an established golf-inspired whisky collection. That range includes the sold-out Caddie’s Dream release and the recent 19th Hole expression, created in collaboration with The Dunvegan Hotel. Visitors can combine a distillery tour and whisky tasting with time on the green. Those stopping by simply to enjoy the distillery’s café are also encouraged to take a putt. “Golf and whisky have always felt naturally connected, and particularly so in a place like St Andrews where both are woven into the very identity of the area,” said William Wemyss, founder and chairman of Wemyss Family Spirits. “We believed there was an opportunity to create something visitors would genuinely remember and which could only really exist in this part of Scotland.” Signup now to make sure you don't miss out on the latest whiskey news and deals. We believe this offers something genuinely different.” Kingsbarns is known for producing elegant Lowland single malts with a light, fruity and floral character, using locally grown barley and careful cask maturation. To mark the opening, Kingsbarns will run a competition for visitors throughout August. Distillery manager Peter Holroyd will set a score on the course. Visitors who beat it will be entered into a prize draw to win the distillery’s entire core range, comprising Doocot, Balcomie and Coaltown.

Penelope Bourbon makes official UK debut Luxco-owned whiskey brand Penelope has teamed up with London-based importer Lightbox Brands to officially launch in the UK. Although some of Penelope’s whiskeys have previously been available in limited quantities in the UK, the partnership with Lightbox will provide a much wider selection for consumers. For the first time, the brand’s core range will be available alongside a series of limited releases. Aimed at premium bars, restaurants, and specialist spirits retailers, Penelope seeks to attract whiskey consumers who are looking for ‘authenticity, provenance, and innovative flavours’. Mike Paladini and Daniel Polise, founders of Penelope Bourbon, said: “After so many people reached out to ask when Penelope would be landing in the UK, we’re so excited to finally be able to make it happen. It’s an exciting time to be launching here, with Bourbon being at the heart of the rise of so many classic and contemporary cocktails, such as the Old Fashioned and Whiskey Sour. “Consumers are embracing premium and experimental spirits, showing a willingness to explore beyond traditional Scotch. Penelope’s commitment to experimentation will be well-received by younger drinkers who are seeking innovative cask finishes and limited edition releases.” The brand’s core range includes Four Grain Straight Bourbon, Wheated Bourbon, and Architect Bourbon. The flagship expression Four Grain blends three mash bills of corn, wheat, rye, and malted barley. Aged for four years, the non-chill filtered Bourbon is bottled at 40% ABV and retails for £40.50 (US$54). Wheated is a wheat-forward Four Grain blend aged four to six years. Bottled at 47.5% ABV, it has an RRP of £50.50 (US$68). Architect Bourbon is crafted with an isolated 21% rye mash bill. It is aged between four and five and a half years and finished using French oak staves selected through Tonnellerie Radoux’s OakScan process. It sits at 52% ABV and is priced at £61 (US$82) for a 700ml bottle. In addition to the core range, there is a limited edition series of experimental Penelope expressions available in 750ml bottles. The limited expressions include: Valencia, finished for 12 months in Vino de Naranja casks from Seville; Rosé Cask Finish, partially aged in French Grenache rosé casks from the Southern Rhône; Rio, a double cask finish in American honey barrels and Brazilian Amburana oak; and Old Fashioned, the brand’s first ready-to-pour expression in the UK. MGP Ingredients‘ subsidiary Luxco acquired Penelope Bourbon in 2023. Earlier this year, the brand unveiled the first three expressions in its new 18-bottle series called Architects of Golf. | | The Mackinac Art Council’s Music in the Park series will add more Americana sound to its repertoire with Detroit band The Whiskey Charmers, Thursday, July 30, in Marquette Park. The band aims to create a haunting Americana sound, with guitar and vocals that cause listeners to feel something. “The Whiskey Charmers create their own brand of dusty Americana, with melancholy guitar lines weaving through vocals that don’t try to break your heart, but somehow always do,” their website reads. The Whiskey Charmers were recently voted Detroit’s Best Americana Band by Detroit Metro Times, and their album “On the Run” has earned acclaim from The Boston Globe. “On the Run is a sharply executed and evocative set of Americana rock filled with superbly arranged songs about the struggle to find connections, a sense of home, and a center in a ghost town of a world,” Ken Capobianco wrote for the Boston Globe. “With a solid rhythm section anchoring things, The Whiskey Charmers have delivered a confident, cohesive record that should place them on the map of Americana rock and bring new listeners to the fold.” They’ve also earned praise from the former Country Music Hall of Fame & Museum deputy director, and have music on the “Detroit: Become Human” soundtrack. The band is led by duo Carrie Shepard and Lawrence Daversa, who have been with the band since its inception. They are currently finishing up their sixth full-length album, which is set to release by the end of the year. While they record their music in Detroit and Nashville, they are currently on tour around the country, which has many stops around Michigan. This will not be the first time the band has played on the Island, having played for Music in the Park in 2024. There will not be an opener for this show. The Whiskey Charmers will be on stage in Marquette Park Thursday, July 30, at 6:30 p.m. Loading Comments

Whiskey Foxtrot Burger relocating to a more ‘Hoover-centric’ space Reading time: 2 minutes Whiskey Foxtrot Burger Co., the popular family-owned burger joint, is moving its original restaurant on John Hawkins Parkway in Hoover to a more centrally located space on the same road. If all goes as planned, they will move to the new spot at 2801 John Hawkins Parkway next to Tortugas Pizza at the end of August. Ben Williams, the owner and operator of Whiskey Foxtrot said they will always have a soft spot for their original location at 2341 John Hawkins Parkway, which was their home for five years. The main reason they are moving to the new location is because it is more “Hoover-centric,” Williams says. “We’re moving up 150, but instead of being, on the outskirts of Interstate 459, we’re between 459 and 31, which I feel like is the heart of that corridor.
