🔥 川普宣布對加拿大威士忌課徵50%關稅

Google News(Whisky 綜合)|原題:Trump to Impose 50% Tariff on Canadian Whisky - whiskycast.com

Stories Whisky is a passion to explore. From the history of the spirit to the evolution of the industry, the story of whisky helps fuel that passion. Often, it’s easy to forget that whisky is also a global multibillion dollar industry. The stories of whisky — from news and new releases to in-depth inquires and what goes on behind the label — blend together to help us appreciate the spirit of whisky. Trump to Impose 50% Tariff on Canadian Whisky President Donald Trump announced Monday his intention to levy a 50% import tariff on Canadian whiskies and other alcoholic beverages, along with most other imports from one of America’s largest trading partners. The tariffs are scheduled to take effect in 30 days, leaving time for negotiations with Canadian leaders. Trump used a Depression-era law to impose the tariffs, saying Canada has discriminated against the U.S. by imposing provincial-level boycotts of American whiskies and other alcoholic beverages, along with cars and dairy products. Most Canadian provinces started boycotting American liquor in their provincial-run liquor monopolies after Trump imposed his first round of tariffs in early 2025, and only two provinces sell American spirits today: Alberta and Saskatchewan. Alcoholic beverages were protected from tariffs under the U.S.-Canada-Mexico Free Trade Agreement, which expired at the beginning of July when the U.S. refused to extend it and opened bilateral trade negotiations with Mexico. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said in a statement that his country is prepared to negotiate with the U.S., saying his government believes in “the benefits of free and fair trade.” Ontario Premier Doug Ford was much more outspoken, posting on social media that Canada should match the U.S. tariffs “tariff for tariff, dollar for dollar. Chris Swonger, CEO of the Distilled Spirits Council of the United States, said in a statement, “We encourage policymakers on both sides of the border to pursue a negotiated solution that restores market access for U.S. spirits and avoids further harm to the U.S. hospitality sector.” The Canadian boycotts have cut into U.S. whiskey exports significantly since they were imposed. This story will be updated as necessary.

🔥 美國威士忌業警告川普新關稅將加劇加拿大報復

Google News(Whisky 綜合)|原題:Whiskey industry warns against new tariffs on Canada - Spectrum News

WASHINGTON — Early last year, Canadian provinces began pulling Kentucky bourbon and other American-produced liquor from government-run stores. It was retaliation for President Donald Trump’s tariffs on imports of steel, aluminum and other Canadian products. Since then, only two provinces, Alberta and Saskatchewan, have lifted their bans. Now, President Trump is doubling down, announcing new 50% tariffs next month on many Canadian goods. “It’s only a response to the way they’ve treated our farmers and our people,” he said Tuesday. “Canada’s been very, very tough on us over the years.” “I think he should probably litigate all the tariffs he’s put in place already without congressional approval,” said Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Crescent Springs on Tuesday. “I mean, if he’s going to raise tariffs, it should come to a vote here.” A report in March by the Distilled Spirits Council of the U.S. says U.S. liquor exports to Canada dropped 70 percent, from $203 million from March to December 2024 to $60 million during the same time period in 2025, after Canadian provinces pulled American spirits from shelves. The council's president and CEO Chris Swonger said in a statement Monday: "Imposing a 50% tariff on imported spirits from Canada deepens trade tensions and raises the risk of further retaliation at a time when many U.S. hospitality businesses continue to face financial hardships. We encourage policymakers on both sides of the border to pursue a negotiated solution that restores market access for U.S. spirits and avoids further harm to the U.S. hospitality sector.” In response to the new tariffs, Michael Bilello, president and CEO of the American Whiskey Association, said in a statement Tuesday: “…we appreciate the Administration’s recognition that American producers have been unfairly denied meaningful access to one of our closest trading partners. At the same time, our goal is not escalation for the sake of escalation; that would be foolish and further damaging to a global industry already facing its most challenging times. Our goal is restored access. Additional tariffs risk deepening tensions and inviting further retaliation at a time when producers and hospitality businesses on both sides of the border need stability.”

🔥 保樂力加撤回法庭訴訟,改向印度稅務機構提出3.14億美元欠稅申訴

Google News(Scotch/Distillery)|原題:Pernod Drops Court Fight, To Appeal India's $314 Mn Whisky Tax Order - outlookbusiness.com

- Pernod Ricard withdrew its Delhi High Court challenge against India's $314 million back tax demand. - The company will now pursue a statutory appeal with the tax authority instead. - India is Pernod's biggest market by volume, contributing about 10% of its global sales. French spirits company Pernod Ricard has withdrawn its court challenge against India's demand for $314 million in back taxes, according to a court order, adding a fresh turn to a four-year-long investigation, Reuters reported. Indian authorities had accused Pernod of undervaluing its Scotch whisky imports over several years, which allegedly helped the company pay lower tariffs than it should have. The tax demand was first issued in September last year, and Reuters had reported in May that the company was alleged to have hidden details about the composition of its whisky imports and the age of its blends, cutting down its 150% tariff liability. Pernod had gone to the Delhi High Court seeking to have the tax demand quashed, arguing that Indian authorities never shared the investigation data that could have helped the company defend itself. Court Case Withdrawn The Delhi High Court has now recorded that the case "is dismissed as withdrawn," according to an order released late on Monday. The order noted that Pernod chose to withdraw its court challenge in order to pursue a statutory appeal instead, a route that goes through the tax authority itself rather than the courts. It was not immediately clear why the company made this shift nine months after first approaching the court. The Indian government told the judges this week that it had no objection to Pernod's decision to withdraw the case, the order showed. Advertisement Anurag Ojha, the government counsel in the case, told Reuters that Pernod is now expected to file an appeal with a commissioner within the tax authority. What The Investigation Found According to the investigation, Pernod had "intentionally complicated" its disclosures by using new internal codenames for its malt whisky, which authorities said made it harder to detect the alleged undervaluation. Pernod has previously said it "rejects any suggestion of wrongdoing" and maintains confidence in its position, according to Reuters. India is Pernod Ricard's largest market by volume and accounts for roughly 10% of the group's global sales. If the company loses the case, the total payout, including penalties, could exceed $600 million, which would amount to a fifth of its $2.9 billion revenue in India last year and nearly three times its profit in the country. Advertisement The tax case adds to Pernod's regulatory troubles in India. The company is also contesting a separate antitrust case, along with a ban imposed by the Delhi government over alleged violations of liquor policy, both of which Pernod denies.

🔥 印度Amrut威士忌如何說服蘇格蘭認真看待印度威士忌

Google News(Scotch/Distillery)|原題:How Amrut Distilleries convinced Scotland to take Indian whisky seriously - Forbes India

It’s the middle of August in 2002, the end of the summer in Glasgow, Scotland. One evening, as the sun starts to set, a 24-year-old Rakshit Jagdale makes his way into The Pot Still, a pub on 154 Hope St. Jagdale takes a seat at the far end of the long bar counter, trying not to look like he is watching too closely. Ken Storrie, the pub’s owner (who passed away in November 2010), has spent the day tasting a whisky Jagdale had brought him that afternoon. It was a single malt that was distilled in a place Storrie had never associated with good whisky. He liked it enough to test it out on others. Later that evening, as the bar fills in with the regulars, Storrie starts to pour for them Jagdale’s whisky and asks them to guess where it was from. They look at the colour, swirl it, nose it, and finally taste it. One says it is a 10-year-old Speyside. Another guesses a 12-year-old Irish. A third goes further: A 15-year-old whisky from Highland. Then Storrie tells them it came from Bengaluru, India. “They all had that expression—jaws dropping,” Jagdale recalls in a conversation with Forbes India. “We knew we made good whisky. But to have that stamp of approval from the Scots felt really good,” says the soft-spoken 48-year-old who now heads Amrut Distilleries. That evening pioneered a new category: Indian single malt, some of which now win top honours at international competitions once dominated by Scotch, Irish or Japanese whiskies. Amrut alone has accumulated more than 300 international awards—most recently five gold medals at the International Spirits Challenge 2024 in London, where it competed in the World Whisky category against entries from Scotland, Ireland and Japan. Amrut Fusion, still the brand’s flagship, won gold at ISC 2024. Growth has been equally striking in India, for the entire industry. Domestic volumes of malt Indian whisky grew at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 32 percent between 2019 and 2025, according to IWSR, a global leader in beverage alcohol data and insight. The year-on-year (YoY) growth rate was 22 percent in 2024-25. Overseas, volumes expanded at a 24 percent CAGR over the same period, with 9 percent YoY growth in 2024-25. “There was a time when Indian whisky wasn’t even considered a category. There was Scotch, Irish, and Japanese. I think 2012-2015, things started to emerge and people started picking up on these whiskies,” says Sandeep Arora, founder of Spiritual Luxury Living, a spirits advisory and marketing firm. Amrut is the flagbearer of Indian whiskies, he says. What Amrut did in Glasgow in 2004 did not stay a one-brand story for long. Paul John followed in 2012-13. Rampur, from Radico Khaitan, came next. Piccadilly’s Indri arrived around 2019-2020 and has since become a breakout success. Other brands have followed. “We feel happy that we pioneered the category,” Jagdale says. His brand has a 35 percent share of the country’s single malt market. It does not have any private equity or outside investment. All capex is funded by internal accruals. Rakshit Jagdale, MD. Amrut Distilleries. Photo by Madhu Kapparath Different Beginnings Amrut’s story begins nowhere near single malts. In 1948, J N Radhakrishna Rao Jagdale set up a small blending and bottling unit on what was then the outskirts of Bangalore. The first product was Silver Cup Brandy, followed soon after by a rum, Amrut Triple X, that found a steady customer base in the Canteen Stores Department of the Indian armed forces from the early 1960s. The pivot began in 1972 when Radhakrishna’s son Neelakanta, Rakshit’s father, joined the family business and decided a blending-and-bottling company wasn’t enough. Amrut installed a small rectification column, began distilling grape brandy in 1975, and started distilling malt whisky around 1979-80, years before anyone in the company was thinking about single malt. The reason was practical: Amrut needed matured malt whisky to blend into its own blended whisky portfolio. The 1990s complicated things. Liberalisation opened up India’s markets and multinational spirits companies moved in fast. Seagram’s launched Royal Stag—a lighter whisky, made with grain rather than molasses, and free of the heavier blended-malt content that brands like Amrut’s own Macintosh carried. It reset consumer taste. “Consumers began to move towards lighter whiskies,” Jagdale recalls. “They could have two or three pegs and get up the next morning without a hangover.” Amrut’s answer to dealing with the challenge was to not only keep distilling but also begin using less malt. “The real change in Amrut’s business happened when my father joined. The actual concept of premiumisation was started by him in the 1970s,” Jagdale says. It would take half a century and a pandemic for that trend to really take off in India. “The desire for higher quality drinks at premium prices thrived during the Covid pandemic,” according to an IWSR report from 2022. “Restricted from going out to their favourite restaurants and bars, consumers around the world spent their discretionary budgets on luxury experiences they could bring into the home, such as… make-at-home cocktails and sophisticated wines and spirits.” A women-led workforce mans the bottling section at the Amrut distillery near Bengaluru. Photo courtesy Amrut Next Blend Rakshit Jagdale joined the family business in 1999 and spent two years learning the operation before his father sent him to Newcastle University in England for an MBA. He wanted to pursue something in logistics and supply chain. His father had a different idea. “He said, ‘why do you want to do a theoretical project? Why don’t you look at whether there is scope for marketing an Indian single malt whisky in Indian restaurants in Great Britain?’” It was less a market-research assignment, more a real-world experiment with the family’s own liquid. Miniature samples of matured Amrut malt were shipped to the UK. Jagdale spent a good part of 2002 working the pub circuit in Newcastle, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Birmingham and London. He would cold-introduce himself to pub owners and drinkers and ask whether they would try an Indian single malt. His father’s contacts helped open other doors. Most people were surprised to learn there was an Indian single malt and equally surprised at how much they liked it. The Pot Still tasting, sometime around August 2002, gave Jagdale the confidence that it could be more than an academic exercise. He took his financials and his findings back to the family board and started the third innings for Amrut. The brand launched India’s first indigenously distilled, matured and bottled single malt whisky not in Bangalore, not in Mumbai, but in an Indian restaurant called Cafe India in Glasgow, on August 24, 2004. It would be six more years before a bottle was sold in India. That wasn’t an oversight; it was Neelakanta Rao Jagdale’s business strategy. “My father was very clear. He did not want to launch it in India first. He wanted the accolades globally and launch in India later, once word-of-mouth got around.” It was not easy. The EU’s standard bottle size was 700 ml against India’s 750 ml. Indian glass manufacturing in the mid-2000s was not yet producing bottles to the quality export markets expected. Amrut sourced its glass from the UK for years before Indian glassmakers caught up. It took close to two years to get packaging fully compliant. From the UK, the brand moved into France, Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden, Spain, Belgium and Denmark by the end of 2004, into Canada by 2007-08, and into the United States—now the company’s single largest export market, ahead of the EU and UK—by 2011. Spirit of India If the Pot Still tasting was Amrut’s proof of concept, the moment that turned it into a business was 2010, when the world-renowned whisky critic Jim Murray scored Amrut Fusion 97 out of 100 and named it the third finest single malt whisky in the world. “That particular recognition turned the tide,” Jagdale recalls. It was also the ye

🔥 帝亚吉欧旗下品牌Pernod Ricard撤回诉讼,面临印度3.14亿美元苏格兰威士忌进口税款纠纷

Google News(Scotch/Distillery)|原題:Scotch whisky tax dispute: France’s Pernod retreats in court fight over $314 million Indian levy - Firstpost

French spirits maker Pernod Ricard has withdrawn its legal challenge against India’s demand for $314 million (around Rs 2,700 crore) in back taxes over alleged undervaluation of Scotch whisky imports and will instead pursue the statutory appeals process, according to a Delhi High Court order. The dispute, one of the company’s biggest regulatory challenges in India, relates to allegations that Pernod undervalued imported Scotch whisky over several years, resulting in lower customs duty payments. Indian authorities had issued the tax demand in September 2025 following a four-year investigation. Pernod had approached the Delhi High Court seeking to quash the demand, arguing that tax authorities failed to provide key investigation documents that were necessary for the company to defend its case. However, in an order released on Monday, the Delhi High Court noted that Pernod had withdrawn its petition to “avail statutory alternative remedy of appeal,” meaning the company will now challenge the tax demand through the prescribed appellate mechanism under Indian tax laws. The tax dispute is among the most significant legal issues facing Pernod Ricard in India, which contributes around 10 per cent of the company’s global sales and is its largest market by volume. Apart from the tax case, the maker of Chivas Regal whisky and Absolut Vodka is also dealing with an antitrust investigation and a separate sales ban in New Delhi linked to alleged liquor policy violations, allegations that the company has denied. Glenfarclas has added a historic chapter to the distillery’s story. The Glenfarclas 70 Year Old is the oldest single malt the Speyside distillery has ever officially released. This remarkably mature whisky spent more than seven decades resting in the Glenfarclas warehouses in Scotland. That makes it one of the rarest releases the Scotch distillery has ever bottled. Exceptionally old Glenfarclas whisky from the original maltings To be precise, the whisky hails from Warehouse No. 8 at the distillery. This warehouse once formed part of the original maltings and was already in use when the spirit was distilled around 70 years ago. Across its long maturation in sherry casks, the whisky bridged six generations at the distillery and ultimately came under the care of distillery manager Callum A. Fraser. With a 70-year age statement, this release surpasses all previous official Glenfarclas bottlings by age, marking a new milestone. Glenfarclas is renowned for long-aged single malts and its commitment to traditional maturation methods. The taste of Glenfarclas 70 Year Old is still under wraps Glenfarclas 70 Year Old has been announced with detailed tasting notes. We’ve listed them for you below: - Nose: Rich aromas of stewed fruits, dark chocolate, treacle toffee, and a subtle hint of Speyside peat. - Palate: Full-bodied and complex with deep fruit tones, creamy chocolate, sweet toffee, and a refined, gentle smokiness. - Finish: Long, layered, and deeply satisfying, as the sweet and delicately smoky notes fade away. The whisky is bottled at 42.9 percent alcohol by volume (ABV). Where can you buy Glenfarclas 70 Year Old? Glenfarclas 70 Year Old has been released worldwide through a select network of specialist whisky retailers. Only 262 bottles of this exclusive single malt are available, making stocks extremely limited. The retail price is around 24,000 euros per bottle. FAQ - When was Glenfarclas founded? Glenfarclas was founded in 1836 and has been owned by the Grant family since 1865. The distillery is one of the few Scotch whisky producers still wholly family-owned. - What is Glenfarclas known for? Glenfarclas is best known for its traditionally matured Speyside single malts in high-quality sherry casks. The distillery regularly releases older whiskies with age statements of 15, 21, 25, 30, and even 40 years or more. - What makes Glenfarclas special? Glenfarclas blends traditional craftsmanship with independent family stewardship. The distillery maintains extensive reserves of mature whisky, allowing it to release rare and very old bottlings on a regular basis.

The SIP Awards take a different approach from most spirits competitions. Rather than assembling a panel of industry experts, the organizers built the whole thing around consumer judges, with the stated goal of answering the question, “What about the consumer’s opinion?” Now in its 18th year, the competition draws entries from around the world and covers not just whiskey but ready-to-drink cocktails, liqueurs, mixers, and more. For 2026, nine American whiskeys earned the Best of Class distinction. They range from long-established Kentucky names to a brand backed by Beyoncé, a few craft distilleries, and one flavored whiskey built around marshmallow and chocolate. Here is a closer look at each one, how it is made, and where it comes from. General Thomas Kentucky Bourbon – Barrel Strength Award: Best of Class Tasting Notes: Butterscotch, oak, cherry, dark berries, herbal rye spice, white pepper RRP: $69.99 General Thomas is one of the smallest names on this list, and the newest. The brand was founded in 2025 by Fort Thomas, Kentucky native Dan Gorman, who named it after General George Henry Thomas, a Union Army commander known as the “Rock of Chickamauga” and the namesake of Gorman’s hometown. Gorman has said he took his cues from George Remus Bourbon, a brand he admired, and the company is based in Newport, Kentucky. The Whiskey Wash is protected by reCAPTCHA, and the Google Privacy Policy and Terms of Service apply. Rather than distilling his own whiskey, Gorman bought 20 barrels of five-year-old Kentucky bourbon from a distillery, which yielded roughly 4,500 bottles. The brand launched with two versions: a 99-proof small batch made by blending and proofing down ten barrels, and this single-barrel, cask-strength release, bottled here at 112 proof. One unusual feature is a technology angle. Each bottle carries a QR code that, when scanned, connects to an AI version of the General himself, delivering a message that can be personalized to the bottle. Availability is concentrated around Northern Kentucky. Elijah Craig Small Batch Award: Best of Class Tasting Notes: Vanilla bean, sweet fruit, fresh mint, wood spice, smoke, nutmeg RRP: $33.99 Elijah Craig takes its name from a Baptist preacher who, according to bourbon lore, is credited with being among the first to age his whiskey in charred oak barrels. The brand is owned by Heaven Hill, the family-run Kentucky producer, and the whiskey is distilled at its Bernheim Distillery in Louisville. The mash bill is a fairly traditional one, made up of 78% corn, 10% rye, and 12% malted barley, and it goes into the barrel at an entry proof of 125 before aging in level 3 charred oak. The whiskey first appeared in 1986 as a 12-year-old, but in early 2016 Heaven Hill removed the age statement, citing demand that had outpaced supply. Since then, the distillery has described it as a blend of eight-to-twelve-year-old barrels. It is bottled at 94 proof and remains a widely available core release, usually priced around $25 to $35. Heaven Hill Grain to Glass Specialty Barrel Series – Kentucky Straight Wheated Bourbon Award: Best of Class Tasting Notes: Cereal grain, oak, black pepper, butterscotch RRP: $129.99 Heaven Hill’s Grain to Glass program is built around traceable grain, and the story starts with a single corn variety. Each year the distillery works with Beck’s Hybrids, an Indiana seed company, to choose a corn varietal suited to Central Kentucky soil, which is then grown by the family-run Peterson Farms in Nelson County. For this wheated bourbon, the varietal is Beck’s 6225. The whiskey is distilled at Heaven Hill’s Bernheim Distillery in Louisville. This release is part of the inaugural Specialty Barrel Series, which sets it apart from the standard Grain to Glass bottlings. Rather than the usual level 3 charred American white oak, this bourbon is fully aged for six years in Chinquapin oak, a separate species of American white oak native to central and eastern North America, with the barrels selected alongside Independent Stave Company. The series comprises three whiskeys in total, a bourbon, this wheated bourbon, and a rye. Heaven Hill, founded by the Shapira family in 1935, released it nationally in limited quantities beginning November 2025 at a suggested price of $129.99. Angel’s Envy 2025 Cellar Collection Series Vol 5 Award: Best of Class Tasting Notes: Floral, fruity, vanilla, clove, smoke, herbal agave, tobacco, brown sugar, orange blossom honey, tropical fruits RRP: $249.99 Angel’s Envy was founded by the late master distiller Lincoln Henderson and his son Wes, and the brand is now owned by Bacardi. The Cellar Collection is its annual limited-edition series, and Volume 5 is a straight rye whiskey. It is also the first Cellar Collection release overseen from start to finish by Owen Martin, who took over as master distiller. The rye itself is distilled at MGP in Indiana. To build the final blend, rye aged up to seven years was finished for as long as twelve months in French Oak Extra Añejo tequila barrels sourced from Hacienda Patrón in Jalisco, then combined with a straight rye aged over 11 years. Those barrels had held Patrón’s agave spirit for four years and are unusual for their French oak construction. Stranahan’s Mountain Angel 12 Year Award: Best of Class Tasting Notes: Caramelized nectarin, fig paste, lavender, blueberry compote, ginger lemon tart, raspberry cheesecake, blackberry strudel, vanilla wafer, oak, maduro cigar wrapper RRP: $103.99 Stranahan’s holds a notable place in American whiskey as Colorado’s first legal distillery after Prohibition, founded in Denver in 2004 by Jess Graber and George Stranahan. The distillery works within the American single malt category, and its whiskey is made from 100% malted barley and Rocky Mountain water. Mountain Angel is its oldest and rarest line. The 10-year version arrived in 2020, and the 12-year followed at the end of 2024, which the brand described as the oldest straight American single malt released to the public at the time. The whiskey is aged in new charred American oak and finished in Port wine casks from Portugal. Denver’s elevation plays a role in how it matures, with the whiskey experiencing a much higher evaporation rate. Stranahan’s lists the whiskey, currently Batch 2, at 94.6 proof, or 47.3% ABV, and notes that proof can vary slightly between batches, though the SIP Awards entry records it at 45%. It is a limited release. SirDavis Whisky Award: Best of Class Tasting Notes: Seville oranges, raisins, clove, cinnamon, ginger, demerara sugar, toffee, biscuity notes, citrus, cherries RRP: $89.99 SirDavis is the whisky brand founded by Beyoncé Knowles-Carter in partnership with Moët Hennessy, the LVMH drinks division, and it launched in 2024. The name honors Davis Hogue, Knowles-Carter’s great-grandfather, a farmer and Prohibition-era moonshiner. To develop the whisky, Moët Hennessy brought in Dr. Bill Lumsden, the master distiller known for his work at Glenmorangie and Ardbeg, working alongside blender Cameron George. What sets it apart is the recipe. Lumsden selected a mash bill of 51% rye and 49% malted barley, an unusually high proportion of malted barley for an American rye. The distillate comes from Indiana, with reporting pointing to MGP, and is then shipped to Texas, where it is finished in Pedro Ximénez sherry casks before blending and bottling. Before launch, the whisky was submitted anonymously to a number of competitions to validate its quality. Uncle Nearest 1884 Smal

Regional heritage whisky is redefining premium spirits by making local identity and craftsmanship central to product development and brand storytelling. The Isle of Harris Distillery's first signature single malt is made, matured, and married in Scotland's Outer Hebrides, with production rooted in the island's landscape, community, and traditional distilling methods. Rather than focusing solely on flavor or age, the whisky highlights its regional provenance, local team, and distinctive maturation process to create a deeper connection between the product and its place of origin. For premium spirits brands, emphasizing regional heritage helps differentiate products in a competitive market where authenticity increasingly influences purchasing decisions. Strong place-based narratives can also strengthen tourism, direct-to-consumer sales, and long-term brand loyalty by encouraging consumers to associate products with memorable destinations and cultural experiences. As premiumization continues across the beverage industry, origin-led branding is becoming an increasingly valuable strategy for building distinctive luxury spirits. Regional Heritage Whisky Isle of Harris Debuts Its First Signature Single Malt Whisky Trend Themes - Origin-led Premiumization — Place-based provenance is becoming a key differentiator for luxury spirits, creating space for brands that turn geography, climate, and community into premium value signals. - Heritage-driven Storytelling — Cultural narratives tied to local craft and tradition are reshaping consumer perceptions of authenticity, giving niche producers stronger emotional relevance in crowded premium markets. - Destination-based Spirits — Whisky brands connected to memorable regions can extend beyond retail into tourism, tastings, and direct-to-consumer experiences that deepen loyalty through place attachment. American whiskey dominated the whiskey categories at the SIP Awards 2026. Covering everything from bourbon and rye to Tennessee whiskey, American single malt, and flavored whiskey, the U.S. accounted for the largest share of whiskey medal winners in this year’s consumer-judged competition. That reflects both the sheer size of the American whiskey industry and the breadth of styles now being produced across the country. Unlike most spirits competitions, the SIP Awards are judged entirely by consumers in blind tastings rather than industry experts. The goal is to recognize the bottles that resonate most with everyday drinkers, giving established names and emerging distilleries an equal opportunity to stand out. To make the results easier to browse, we’ve extracted every American whiskey winner from the SIP Awards 2026 and compiled them into the table below. From household bourbon brands to craft producers and everything in between, this is the complete list of American winners. | Whiskey | Subcategory | Medal | | Bubba’s Marshmallow Chocolate Whiskey | Garrison Brothers 傳奇稀有威士忌 Hye Rye Bourbon 回歸 2028年交付

Google News(Whisky 綜合)|原題:Garrison Brothers’ Rarest Whiskey Ever Is Coming Back - Yahoo

Garrison Brothers is bringing back its rarest and most sought-after whiskey. The Texas distillery announced Wednesday that Hye Rye Bourbon Whiskey will return through the company's first limited-release pre-sale, giving bourbon enthusiasts the opportunity to reserve bottles more than two years before they're ready. The pre-sale will run from July 27 through Aug. 10, with customers able to purchase up to four bottles for $99.99 each. The catch? Buyers won't be able to pick up their whiskey until October 2028 at Garrison Brothers Distillery in Hye, Texas. Originally released in December 2020, Hye Rye was so limited that is unquestionably the most elusive expression in Garrison Brothers history. The inaugural release yielded just 1,000 bottles, available exclusively at the distillery. The whiskey traces its origins back to 2012, when Master Distiller Donnis Todd developed a high-rye mash bill using Texas-grown grain. Rather than releasing it after just a few years, Todd allowed the whiskey to mature for seven years, believing it needed additional time to develop its full character. Hye Rye was, and to this day still is, the only whiskey Garrison Brothers has ever released made with a mashbill outside of its standard wheated bourbon recipe. "When we filled the first Hye Rye barrels, I had no idea it would become one of the most talked-about bourbons we've ever made," Todd said in a news release. "Bringing Hye Rye back means so much to me. It's the continuation of a story that's been years in the making." Expected to be bottled at 98 proof, Hye Rye is distilled from a mashbill of 52% South Texas corn, 37% organic rye and 11% barley. The unusually high rye content gives the bourbon a spicier, pepper-forward profile than traditional bourbon recipes. The style of release also marks a first for Garrison Brothers. Rather than selling bottles upon release, the distillery is effectively allowing consumers to reserve inventory years in advance, ensuring those who secure bottles won't have to compete on release day. All bottles must be picked up in person at the distillery within 90 days of notification. The company said the release date and pickup celebrations will be announced closer to the planned October 2028 launch. Canadian whisky does not always get the same attention as Scotch or bourbon, but it covers a lot of ground, from easygoing blends to rye whiskies made entirely from that single grain. This year, six Canadian bottlings picked up recognition at the SIP Awards 2026, with Canadian Club 1858 taking Best of Class in the Canadian Blended Whisky category and five others earning Platinum medals. The SIP Awards stand apart from most spirits competitions in one key respect: the judging is done entirely by consumers rather than critics or industry professionals. The organizers built the competition around a single question, “What about the consumer’s opinion?”, and they recruit judges from a range of demographics to evaluate entries blind. The competition covers spirits of all kinds, along with ready-to-drink cocktails, liqueurs, and mixers, which puts established names and newcomers on the same footing. Here is a closer look at the six best Canadian winners. Canadian Club 1858 Award: Best of Class Tasting Notes: Almond nuttiness, pepper, zest, rich oak, vanilla RRP: $31.15 Signup now to make sure you don't miss out on the latest whiskey news and deals. The number in the name points back to 1858, the year Hiram Walker set up his distillery across the river from Detroit in what became Walkerville, Ontario. Walker was an American grocer and grain merchant who moved his whisky-making operation to Canada, and the brand he started there grew popular in American gentlemen’s clubs, which is where the “Club” name came from. Canadian Club is now owned by Suntory Global Spirits, and the whisky is still produced at the Walkerville site. The whisky uses a recipe of corn, rye, rye malt, and malted barley, with the corn distillate serving as the base and the rye grains providing much of the flavor. Canadian Club is known for blending its grain spirits before they go into the barrel. The 1858 expression carries no age statement, is matured in ex-bourbon oak, and is bottled at 40% ABV. It remains the core, everyday bottling in the range and is sold in more than 150 countries. Burwood Distillery The Smooth Talker Bur-bon Style Whisky Award: Platinum Tasting Notes: Sweet, smooth, floral, spicy, Alberta honey RRP: $50 Compared with the larger producers on this list, Burwood Distillery is a small, independent operation in Calgary, Alberta. It was started by Jordan Ramey and brothers Ivan and Marko Cilic, who, as Avenue Calgary reports, met when Ramey was house-hunting in 2012 and connected with Ivan, his realtor, over a shared interest in craft beer and spirits. The distillery held its grand opening in 2017 and works with local ingredients, including barley and honey from the founders’ family beehives. The name Smooth Talker is a tribute to co-founder Ivan. The whisky is described by Burwood as a “Bur-bon Style Whiskey,” a play on the fact that it is made in Canada and so cannot be labeled bourbon. The distillery says it was inspired by American corn whiskies and is made with Canadian rye along with raw Alberta honey. It is bottled at 40% ABV and, at $50, is a standard part of Burwood’s lineup. Black Velvet Reserve Award: Platinum Tasting Notes: Caramelized orchard fruits, rye, smoke, toffee, dark fruit RRP: $16.99 Black Velvet dates back to 1951. The brand was originally called Black Label, but as Heaven Hill tells the story, the distiller Jack Napier renamed it after tasting an early batch and finding it unusually smooth. It was also thought that the original name might cause confusion between Black Velvet and Johnnie Walker Black Label. Production started in eastern Canada and later moved west to the distillery in Lethbridge, Alberta, which now carries the Black Velvet name. Heaven Hill acquired the brand in 2019. The brand is known for a production method it calls “blending at birth,” in which the base whisky is combined with an aged rye flavoring whisky before the blend goes into the barrel to mature, rather than blending the components after they have aged separately. Black Velvet Reserve is the aged, step-up version of the standard whisky, matured longer in used bourbon barrels and bottled at 40% ABV. It was first introduced in 1991. Age labeling on this bottling has varied over the years and across markets, with both 8 and 10-year statements appearing on shelves. The expression listed on Black Velvet’s website is a 10-year-old, but the 8-year-old seems to still be available. It is worth checking the specific bottle if you’d like to buy this one. Black Velvet Blackberry Award: Platinum Tasting Notes: Blackberry sweetness, caramel, vanilla RRP: $11.99 The second Black Velvet entry among the winners comes from the same Lethbridge distillery, but sits in the flavored whisky category rather than the straight blends. Black Velvet Blackberry pairs the brand’s Canadian whisky base with blackberry flavoring, and, like the rest of the flavored range, it is bottled at a lower 35% ABV rather than the 40% of the core whiskies. The flavored lineup has grown under Heaven Hill, which took over the brand in 2019, and now includes options such as toasted caramel, apple, and peach alongside blackberry. These expressions are aimed largely at the U.S. market and sit at the low end on price, with the 750 ml bottle usually selling for around $12, which makes Blackberry the most affordable of the six winners. Pendleton Midnight Whisky Award: Platinum Tasting Notes: Leather, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, ginger, oak, coffee cake, nuts, caramelized bananas, candied figs, pecans, walnuts RRP: $45.99 Pendleton takes a different path from the other winners here, since it is a Canadian whisky finished and bottled in the United States. The whisky is distilled and aged in Canada, then shipped to Hood River Distillers in Hood River, Oregon, where it is cut to bottling strength with glacier-fed spring water from Mt. Hood. Hood River Distillers, founded in 1934, launched the Pendleton brand in 2003 and named it after the Pendleton Round-Up, a long-running rodeo held each September in Pendleton, Oregon. The brand was acquired by Proximo Spirits in 2017. Pendleton Midnight arrived in 2015 as a step up from the flagship Pendleton whisky. According to Hood River Distillers, it is a blend of Canadian whiskies with a portion aged more than six years in American brandy barrels, which the company credits for the darker color and fruit-forward character. It is bottled at 45% ABV and sits in the permanent range. Alberta Premium Golden Rye 9 Year Old Award: Platinum Tasting Notes: Caramel, leather, coconut, raisins, molasses, spice RRP: $37.95 Alberta Distillers Limited in Calgary has specialized in rye for a long time. The distillery works largely with rye grown on the Canadian prairies, and it supplies aged 100% rye whisky to a number of other brands in addition to its own Alberta Premium line. According to the company, it is one of the few remaining 100% Canadian rye whisky producers in North America, and it has been making whisky for more than 50 years. The distillery is now part of Suntory Global Spirits and uses a mix of column and pot stills, which lets it produce both lighter and heavier styles of rye spirit for blending. This particular release is made entirely from rye and aged for nine years across three cask types: new white oak, ex-bourbon, and ex-Canadian whisky barrels. It is bottled at 45% ABV. Alberta Distillers introduced the whisky at the end of July 2025.

2026 BevTest Awards 評選結果出爐:調和威士忌稱霸全球最佳蘇格蘭威士忌

Inside the 2026 BevTest Awards That Crowned the World's Best Blended Scotch Whiskies Single malt Scotch has monopolized luxury spirits for two decades, yet the 2026 Beverage Testing Institute awards reveal blends remain the absolute pinnacle. Single malt Scotch has monopolized luxury spirits discussions for two decades, yet the 2026 Beverage Testing Institute evaluations reveal that masterfully blended expressions remain the pinnacle of Scottish distillation. While single malts capture the romance of terroir, over 85 percent of global Scotch sales—driving a multi-billion-dollar export market—rely entirely on blends. As Kenyan imports of premium spirits surged past KES 4.2 billion in the first quarter of 2026, the global recognition of blends like Chivas Regal signals a distinct market shift toward complexity over singular origin. The science of blending combines dozens of individual malt and grain whiskies into a spirit whose complexity categorically exceeds the sum of its parts, proving that technical precision can outshine singular geographic constraints. The Science and Art of the Master Blend The latest Beverage Testing Institute Scotch Whisky Judging awarded Gold Medal–Exceptional honors to three age-statement releases from Chivas Regal and two mature expressions from Ian Macleod Distillers’ Isle of Skye. These top-rated expressions illustrate two radically distinct blending philosophies that dominate the USD 6.8 billion (KES 890 billion) global whisky trade. Chivas Regal emphasizes elegance, fruit, and refinement built primarily around Speyside malts, particularly the historic Strathisla. Conversely, the Isle of Skye showcases a richer, heavily maritime profile that integrates subtle contributions from the rugged Island and Highland regions. Market data published by the Scotch Whisky Association indicates that premium blends are capturing a growing demographic of younger professionals across Nairobi, Lagos, and London. Master blenders operate akin to perfumers, utilizing an expansive palette of aging casks to maintain absolute consistency year after year—an engineering feat that single malts, subject to annual climatic variations, inherently cannot replicate. Chivas Regal 16-Year-Old: The Speyside Anchor Introduced as a strategic expansion of the Chivas Regal luxury portfolio, the 16-Year-Old expression builds directly upon the house style established by their iconic 12-Year-Old variant. Master blenders incorporate significantly older malt and grain whiskies to construct greater richness and structural complexity. Strathisla Distillery, documented as Scotland's oldest continuously operating Highland distillery, remains the absolute heart of the blend, supported by a rigorously selected combination of mature Speyside and Highland malts. - Aroma profile: Ripe pear, baked apple, heather honey, vanilla custard, and toasted almonds. - Palate dynamics: Silky and beautifully integrated, showcasing flavors of orchard fruits, honeycomb, and toffee. - Finish metrics: Long, warming trajectory characterized by subtle oak spices and a delicate malt sweetness. The Beverage Testing Institute panel technically described the 16-Year-Old whisky as exhibiting aromas of caramel coffee cake and chestnut honey, balanced by flavors of buckwheat pancakes with apricot syrup. Evaluators noted it as a highly nuanced and nicely balanced Scotch that has been artfully matured, appealing directly to the discerning palates of high-net-worth consumers transitioning from cognacs. Chivas Regal 18-Year-Old: The Benchmark Luxury Standard Often regarded by international spirits critics as the definitive benchmark for luxury blends, the Chivas Regal 18-Year-Old is composed of more than twenty carefully selected malt and grain whiskies, each matured for an absolute minimum of eighteen years. Master Blender Kevin Balmforth actively continues the blending philosophy established by his predecessor Sandy Hyslop, strictly emphasizing richness, refinement, and exceptional integration across the flavor spectrum. - Sensory baseline: Dried apricots, dark honey, orange marmalade, and roasted hazelnuts. - Palate development: Dense dark chocolate layering with baking spices and seasoned oak. - Global positioning: Retails at approximately USD 85 (KES 11,135), positioned against entry-level single malts. The older component whiskies integrated into the 18-Year-Old provide impressive depth while maintaining exceptional smoothness, effectively masking the elevated alcohol by volume. This expression demonstrates the commercial viability of age-statement blends in an era where many distilleries are dropping age declarations due to global supply constraints. Economic Implications for the East African Market The resurgence of ultra-premium blended Scotch carries significant tax and trade implications for East African economies. Records from the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) reveal that imported spirits constitute a vital excise duty stream. With a 750ml bottle of premium blended Scotch attracting specific excise duties alongside standard VAT, the rising popularity of these award-winning bottles directly bolsters government revenue collection. Economists at the Central Bank of Kenya highlight that the hospitality sector's post-pandemic recovery heavily relies on high-margin luxury goods. "The demand for award-winning spirits acts as a reliable barometer for discretionary spending among the urban middle class," notes financial analyst Peter Njuguna, speaking from his Nairobi office. This trend mirrors consumption patterns observed in London and Sydney, where premium blends have successfully shed their outdated reputations to attract a new generation of cocktail enthusiasts and serious collectors. As global supply chain pressures ease and international shipping lanes stabilize, the availability of these BevTest Gold Medal winners in emerging markets will likely expand. Master blenders are effectively proving that the future of Scotch does not rely solely on single-distillery purity, but rather on the unparalleled artistry of the blend. Pernod Ricard 撤銷印度蘇格蘭威士忌進口稅務訴訟,涉及 3.14 億美元稅款爭議

Google News(Scotch/Distillery)|原題:Pernod Ricard Drops $314M India Tax Case On Scotch Imports - Whalesbook

法國酒業集團 Pernod Ricard(擁有 Chivas Regal 芝華士等品牌)宣布撤銷對印度稅務機構 3.14 億美元稅款要求的法律訴訟。

French spirits maker Pernod Ricard has withdrawn its legal challenge against a $314 million Indian tax demand. The dispute involved allegations of undervaluing Scotch whisky imports to avoid tariffs. Investors are tracking how this resolution affects the company's regulatory standing in India, which contributes roughly 10% of its global sales. Detailed Coverage Pernod Ricard, the French company known for brands like Absolut vodka and Chivas Regal, has decided to end its four-year legal battle with Indian tax authorities. The company confirmed it is withdrawing its challenge against a $314 million tax demand, which was originally raised after regulators alleged that the company had undervalued its imported Scotch whisky shipments over several years. Impact of the Tax Dispute The tax demand was based on claims that the company avoided India's 150% import tariff by not fully disclosing the age and exact composition of its whisky imports. By dropping the legal case in the New Delhi court, the company moves to settle a major financial uncertainty that has weighed on its Indian operations. India remains a vital region for the firm, contributing about 10% to its total global revenue. Managing tax and regulatory compliance in this market is essential for the company to maintain its scale and market share. Regulatory Environment and Business Pressures While this tax dispute is moving toward a resolution, Pernod Ricard continues to navigate other regulatory challenges in India. The company has faced scrutiny regarding antitrust allegations and a temporary ban on liquor sales in New Delhi, which were linked to alleged violations of local alcohol policies. The company has consistently denied these allegations. These overlapping regulatory issues have created a complex environment for the business, often requiring significant management focus and legal resources. Strategic Outlook for Investors For investors, the primary concern remains how these regulatory developments impact the company’s ability to operate smoothly in one of its fastest-growing markets. The company operates in a sector that is highly sensitive to government policy, excise duties, and state-level regulations. Although withdrawing the tax challenge eliminates immediate courtroom uncertainty regarding this specific $314 million demand, the company must now focus on streamlining its compliance processes to avoid similar disputes in the future. Investors may monitor the company’s future quarterly disclosures and management commentary for updates on its Indian business performance, regulatory relations, and any potential shifts in import strategies. The ability of the company to stabilize its operational standing in India will be an important factor for its long-term growth in the region.

標籤打字錯誤能讓威士忌更值錢?Wemyss Malts「Untold Riches」漏字軼事

Google News(Scotch/Distillery)|原題:Does this typo make a vintage whisky worth more? - Whisky Monkeys

Whisky labels are bound by a striking number of rules. The whisky category must be clearly shown on the front, any age statement must be accurate, and the label may not give a misleading impression about origin or distillery. Yet even the strictest rules can’t protect against a simple human error. We all know the term NAS, “No Age Statement,” but what about a “No H Statement”? There are several distilleries whose names are often misspelled, let alone mispronounced. Think of Caol Ila or Laphroaig, where the “a” and “o” sometimes get swapped. And what about Glenglassaugh, a name that’s easy to trip over in speech or on the page? Still, it’s rare for a typo like that to slip onto an actual whisky label. The H as a tongue twister For some distilleries, the letter “H” is where tongues—and spellcheckers—go wrong. One of them is Bunnahabhain, a name that can easily trip you up when writing it out. In 2020, the independent bottler Wemyss Malts released a 28-year-old single malt called “Untold Riches.” For this whisky, no fewer than 28 hogsheads and 3 sherry butts from Bunnahabhain were married into a single batch of 6,500 bottles. As prescribed by the Scotch Whisky Association, independent bottlers must display their own name in larger type on the label than the distillery’s! In fact, some distilleries don’t even grant independent bottlers permission to name the distillery at all. That’s how creative designations like Secret Speyside, Unnamed Orkney, or Highland Harvest arise. What is the No H Statement in whisky? Back to the error Wemyss made on the label of the 28-year-old Untold Riches single malt. They forgot an “H” in the name of the distillery the casks came from. So the label shows, in smaller letters, “Bunnahabain” instead of “Bunnahabhain.” The second “h,” directly after the “b,” vanished from the label. In doing so, Wemyss created a curiosity and among collectors, items like this are coveted. But is it sloppy for Wemyss to ship 6,500 bottles with a misspelled label, or actually clever? The misprint stands out even more because Bunnahabhain is already notorious as a name whisky lovers easily stumble over when writing it. The same goes for names like Caol Ila, Bruichladdich, and Laphroaig. Untold Riches: 31 casks, 1 single malt Untold Riches was bottled in 2020 and released in early 2021. It marked a special release for Wemyss Malts. The bottler had already sold single-cask whiskies, but presented Untold Riches as its first carefully constructed single malt from multiple casks of the same distillery. No fewer than 31 casks were combined for this whisky: 28 bourbon hogsheads and 3 sherry butts. The various casks were filled between November 1987 and December 1991. On the inside of the packaging, they even listed the individual cask numbers and fill dates. Although the whisky comes from 31 different casks, it still qualifies as a single malt. In single malt, “single” doesn’t mean the whisky comes from a single cask; it means all the malt whisky used comes from one distillery. In this case, everything came from the warehouses of Bunnahabhain. According to Whiskybase, the final batch consisted of 6,500 70cl bottles, bottled at 49.1% alcohol by volume (ABV). The whisky is non-chill-filtered and bottled without added color. The original UK RRP was about £149.95, though you won’t likely find a bottle at that price anymore. Old books, dried fruit, and walnuts Even without the typo, Untold Riches would have been a noteworthy bottling. The Bunnahabhain used was unpeated and combined the influence of bourbon casks with a smaller share of large sherry casks. The official tasting notes mention leather, dusty books, antique wood, dark fruits, and maraschino cherries. On the palate, you’ll find walnuts, pecans, plums, dates, and banana bread. The finish brings saffron, clove, and nutmeg. Reviewers described the whisky as refined and harmonious, with dried fruits, tobacco, nuts, gentle wood spices, and the saline notes often associated with Bunnahabhain. It wasn’t a heavy “sherry bomb,” but a balanced mature single malt in which the distillery character still shone through. Want to read more Did You Know articles? You can find them here.Does this typo make the bottle more valuable? A printing error doesn’t automatically make a bottle rare or expensive. With 6,500 examples, Untold Riches wasn’t exactly a tiny single-cask release. However, the error does make the bottling instantly recognizable. For collectors, that kind of anomaly can be appealing—especially when the bottle is unopened and the original box with the same typo is still present. The missing “h” doesn’t change the whisky in the bottle, of course. But it does give the release a story that other 28-year-old whiskies don’t have. FAQ - What does “No H Statement” mean? “No H Statement” isn’t an official term, but a tongue-in-cheek label for the typo on Wemyss Untold Riches. The name Bunnahabhain was written as “Bunnahabain,” missing the second “h.” - Why can Untold Riches be called a single malt if 31 casks were used? “Single” means all the whisky comes from one distillery. For Untold Riches, 28 bourbon hogsheads and three sherry butts from Bunnahabhain were married together. - Does the typo make Untold Riches more valuable? A typo doesn’t automatically increase value. But this misprint makes the run of 6,500 bottles distinctive and instantly recognizable, which can make unopened bottles with the original packaging attractive to collectors.

Amazon’s big sales weeks are usually a bad place to buy whisky. The bottles that get shouted about tend to be the ones supermarkets are trying to shift, and a “was £X, now £Y” flash almost never survives a look at what the specialists actually charge. So think of this less as a list of the loudest discounts and more as a curated shortlist: six bottles we’d happily pour ourselves, that happen to be sitting at prices worth a second look right now. A quick, honest word on those prices first. The figures below were captured while the deals were live, and Amazon being Amazon, some may already have moved by the time you read this. Prices tend to move fast on Amazon, but if a price has drifted, the whisky is still worth knowing about; that’s rather the point of the exercise. Here, then, are the six. Ardnamurchan AD — £39.99 If you buy one bottle off this list, make it this one. Ardnamurchan AD is about as enthusiast-proof as a sub-£40 Scotch gets, and it’s the bottle we’d press into the hands of anyone either new to whisky or convinced they don’t like the stuff yet. The appeal starts with what’s actually in the bottle. The core release is a roughly fifty-fifty marriage of unpeated and peated spirit, matured in ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks and bottled at 46.8% ABV, un-chill filtered and with natural colour. That last detail matters more than it sounds: those are the presentation choices serious drinkers look for, and finding them at this price is rare. The result is a coastal, gently smoky malt with real layers to it — savoury and salty one minute, sweetly sherried the next. Ardnamurchan the distillery only fired up in 2014, but it has built one of the more convincing modern credibility stories in Scotch. It leans hard into responsible distilling — a woodchip biomass boiler, local forestry, hydro-electric power from the Glenmore river — which is a good deal more concrete than the usual green marketing. The awards back it up, too: the AD Core scored 95 points at the IWSC in 2024 and took a Silver at that year’s World Whiskies Awards. One thing to keep in mind is that AD is a batch release, so bottlings do vary a little over time. Part of the fun, if you ask us. By Signing up, you accept and agree to our Terms of Services and you acknowledge our Privacy Statement. The Whiskey Wash is protected by reCAPTCHA, and the Google Privacy Policy and Terms of Service apply. Should you buy it at £39.99? Comfortably, yes. The current specialist benchmark is £46.95 at The Whisky Exchange, so even where Amazon hasn’t been showing a live basket price, this sits meaningfully below the going rate for a genuinely excellent whisky. Bladnoch Liora — £39.97 This is the one to move quickly on, if you can still find it at the price. Liora is Bladnoch’s first “Distiller’s Strength” release — 52.2% ABV, matured in bourbon and new oak casks, non-chill filtered and natural in colour. In plain terms, it’s a big, generous, sweet Lowland malt: think vanilla custard, caramel, toasted oak and orchard fruit, with the heft that comes from bottling at a proper strength rather than the standard 40%. Bladnoch brings serious distillery-level authority to the table. It traces its roots to 1817, calls itself the oldest independently owned Scotch whisky distillery, and is the southernmost distillery in Scotland — the sort of heritage that whisky readers actually care about. The distillery has picked up plenty of recognition of late, including honours at the 2024 World Whiskies Awards. Worth being precise here: those are distillery and range achievements rather than medals for Liora itself, so we’d not go claiming this specific bottle is an award-winner. Its case rests on the specs and a warm reception from reviewers and hobbyists alike, several of whom have parked it among their favourite cask-strength Scotches. Community chatter rather than gospel, but telling all the same. The price is where it gets interesting. Bladnoch still sells Liora directly at £65, and Amazon’s current page shows other sellers from around that same £65 mark rather than the sub-£40 we captured. So a live £39.97 would be no ordinary saving — it’s roughly 38% under official pricing, which turns a serious enthusiast bottle into supermarket-gift-shop money. If it’s still there when you click, that’s the deal of the list. Tullibardine 225 Sauternes Finish — £27.99 The budget star of the week, and a personal soft spot of ours. If you love the plump, honeyed sweetness that a good sweet-wine cask brings, the sort of thing the Sauternes-finished Bruichladdichs do so well, the Tullibardine 225 is a cheap and cheerful way in. It’s a 43% Highland single malt, matured first in first-fill ex-bourbon barrels and then finished in 225-litre Sauternes casks (hence the name), with the producer pointing to citrus, vanilla, oatmeal, pineapple and orange zest over a creamy finish. Be clear-eyed about what this is and isn’t. At 43% and with The Whisky Exchange noting that colouring is used, it doesn’t carry the same enthusiast credentials as the Ardnamurchan or the Bladnoch — this is a fun, fruity cask-finish curiosity rather than a purist’s statement dram. But at £27.99 that’s beside the point. The producer currently lists it at £46, The Whisky Exchange at £42.75 and Master of Malt at £47, so you’re looking at roughly a third off the going market for a whisky that punches well above pocket-money prices. Call it the best budget curiosity here. Clydeside Stobcross — £31.98 A proper Lowland story for anyone who likes to drink local histories as well as whiskies. The Clydeside Distillery opened on Glasgow’s waterfront in 2017, building on the Morrison family’s long whisky lineage, and released its first single malt only in October 2021 — so Stobcross is young, and its youth is part of the tale rather than something to hide. What you get is a bright, fruit-led malt bottled at 46% with natural colour and no chill-filtration: floral sweetness, orchard and tropical fruit, a twist of white pepper. Reviewers have it pegged as light, summery and easy to enjoy (Whisky Magazine scored it a respectable 7.6), though some feel the core bottling still tastes its age for the money. That’s a fair reading. At £31.98 (Amazon’s page has recently shown it nearer £37.99) this is sensible money for a likeable modern Lowlander, so long as you go in wanting freshness and drinkability rather than depth. Woven HOMEMADE — £34.95 We’ll admit a bias: Woven is simply a brand we enjoy following. The Edinburgh outfit blends across regions with real curiosity, and HOMEMADE is a good showcase. It is a 46.4% release built from Speyside single malt and Lowland single grain, with an unusually high malt content and sherry-seasoned cask influence, bottled in a run of 8,120 after a 70-day marrying period. It’s a well-made, easy-going dram that whisky people tend to respect rather than rave about, and it’s a nice way to broaden your shelf beyond straight distillery bottlings into modern blending. On the deal itself, be realistic: Woven sells HOMEMADE direct at £45, so £34.95 is a genuine if unspectacular saving rather than a collapse in price. Buy it because you’re curious about what a thoughtful contemporary blend can do, not because you’re chasing the biggest discount on the page. Connacht Spirit of the Atlantic — £34.95 The wildcard, and a rewarding one. This is Connacht’s first core release — a five-year-old Irish single malt matured in ex-bourbon and ex-Oloroso sherry casks, bottled at 44.8% and natural in colour, with the neat historical footnote that it’s the first legal whiskey made in County Mayo in 150 years. Most spirits competitions rely on panels of industry experts to decide the winners. The SIP Awards takes a different approach. Since its launch, the competition has focused on consumer opinion, using everyday spirits drinkers rather than professional judges to evaluate entries through blind tastings. The idea is simple: provide a measure of quality based on what consumers actually enjoy drinking. The competition covers far more than whiskey, with categories spanning everything from ready-to-drink cocktails and liqueurs to tequila, gin, rum, vodka, and mixers. That makes it one of the broadest spirits competitions on the calendar, with thousands of products assessed each year. For whiskey fans, however, the results offer an interesting perspective on which bottles resonated most strongly with consumers. To make them easier to browse, we’ve extracted every whisky and whiskey winner from the SIP Awards 2026 and compiled them into the table below. | Whisk(e)y | Subcategory | Medal | Country Of Origin | For much of the last two decades, single malt Scotch has dominated the conversation among whisky aficionados. Yet blended Scotch remains the foundation upon which Scotland built its global whisky reputation. More than 85 percent of all Scotch whisky sold worldwide is blended, and at its best, the category represents one of whisky's greatest technical achievements: combining dozens of individual malt and grain whiskies into a spirit whose complexity exceeds the sum of its parts. The latest Beverage Testing Institute (BevTest) Scotch Whisky Judging demonstrates that exceptional blending continues to produce some of Scotland's finest whiskies. This year's highest-rated expressions include three age-statement releases from Chivas Regal and two mature expressions from Ian Macleod Distillers' Isle of Skye, each earning Gold Medal–Exceptional honors. Together, they illustrate two distinct blending philosophies. Chivas Regal emphasizes elegance, fruit, and refinement built around Speyside malts, particularly Strathisla, while Isle of Skye showcases a richer, more maritime profile with a subtle contribution of Island and Highland malts. Below are brief backgrounds on BevTest’s top-rated blended Scotch whiskies, along with my tasting notes. Chivas Regal 16 Year Old Blended Scotch Whisky, 40% ABV, 750 ml. 94 Points, Gold Medal–Exceptional Introduced as part of the Chivas Regal luxury portfolio, the 16 YO builds upon the house style established by the iconic 12 YO, incorporating older malt and grain whiskies to provide greater richness and complexity. Strathisla Distillery, Scotland's oldest continuously operating Highland distillery, remains the heart of the blend, supported by a carefully selected combination of mature Speyside and Highland malts. The whisky features aromas of ripe pear, baked apple, heather honey, vanilla custard, toasted almonds, butterscotch, orange blossom, and seasoned oak, complemented by subtle floral notes and delicate wood spices. It’s silky, creamy, and beautifully integrated on the palate, with a luxurious mouthfeel and weight. The older component whiskies provide impressive depth while maintaining exceptional smoothness. It showcases flavors of orchard fruits, honeycomb, vanilla, toffee, toasted hazelnuts, milk chocolate, citrus peel, and cinnamon. The finish is long, elegant, and warming, with lingering notes of honey, vanilla, subtle oak spices, and a delicate malt sweetness. The BevTest Judging Panel described the whisky as exhibiting “aromas of caramel coffee cake, chestnut honey, and a hint of rubber sap, along with flavors of buckwheat pancakes with apricot syrup, a hint of char, and caramel macchiato. A nuanced and nicely balanced Scotch that has been artfully blended and aged.” Chivas Regal 18 Year Old Blended Scotch Whisky, 40% ABV, 750 ml. 93 Points, Gold Medal–Exceptional Often regarded as one of the benchmark luxury blends, Chivas Regal 18 YO is composed of more than twenty carefully selected malt and grain whiskies, each matured for at least eighteen years. Master Blender Kevin Balmforth continues the blending philosophy established by Sandy Hyslop, emphasizing richness, refinement, and exceptional integration. The whisky features aromas of dried apricots, dark honey, orange marmalade, vanilla bean, roasted hazelnuts, seasoned oak, dark chocolate, and baking spices. It’s exceptionally smooth and velvety on the palate, with remarkable richness and depth, showcasing dried fruit, toffee, caramel, orange peel, cocoa, roasted almonds, cinnamon, cloves, and seasoned oak. The finish is long, smooth, and refined, with lingering notes of chocolate, dried fruit, honey, and warming oak spices. The BevTest Judging Panel described the whisky as exhibiting “aromas of brown butter, dark roasted nuts, and a hint of Band-Aid, along with flavors of shortbread a la mode with smoked sea salt, minerals, and crystallized ginger. A nicely balanced, peaty and smoky Blended Scotch that will be very versatile.” Isle of Skye 25 Year Old Blended Scotch Whisky, 40% ABV, 750 ml. 93 Points, Gold Medal–Exceptional Produced by Ian Macleod Distillers, Isle of Skye dates back to 1933 and has long been known for blending Speyside and Highland malts with a subtle maritime influence from Island whiskies. The 25 YO represents the pinnacle of the range, using exceptionally mature components that emphasize elegance over peat intensity. The whisky features aromas of seasoned oak, dried figs, orange peel, honey, walnuts, vanilla, old leather, toasted almonds, and faint maritime smoke, creating a beautifully mature bouquet. It’s rich, creamy, and mouth-coating on the palate, with a pronounced weight. The extended maturation creates remarkable smoothness, without sacrificing complexity. It showcases flavors of dried fruits, toffee, dark honey, roasted nuts, orange marmalade, milk chocolate, cinnamon, and savory hints of sea salt. The finish is exceptionally long and sweet, with lingering notes of dried fruit, seasoned oak, subtle smoke, and gentle spices. The BevTest Judging Panel described the whisky as exhibiting “aromas of grilled fruitcake with honey butter, mocha gelato, and smoked nuts, along with flavors of toasted breakfast breads with fruit, maple cookies dipped in latte, and white cigar ash. A tasty and appealing lightly smoky Scotch for sipping or cigars.” Isle of Skye 21-Year-Old Blended Scotch Whisky, 40% ABV, 750 ml. 92 Points, Gold Medal–Exceptional The 21 YO bridges the divide between traditional deluxe blends and luxury Scotch, showcasing carefully matured malt and grain whiskies that retain the house's characteristic maritime freshness while developing impressive richness. The whisky features aromas of fresh orchard fruits, honey, vanilla, seasoned oak, toasted almonds, citrus peel, and a delicate coastal minerality. It’s smooth and silky on the palate, with a creamy texture and excellent integration between fruit, grain sweetness, and seasoned oak. It showcases flavors of pear, honeycomb, butterscotch, vanilla, orange zest, roasted nuts, caramel, subtle spices, and a distinctive maritime note. The finish is long, elegant, and gently warming, with lingering notes of honey, citrus, oaky spices, and subtle, savory sea salt. The BevTest Judging Panel described the whisky as exhibiting “aromas of mocha nut fudge, toasted fruit cake, and dark toast, along with flavors of honeyed cereal, maple cream, and dried stone fruits. A grainy, creamy, and earthy Blended Scotch with solid single malt character.” Chivas Regal 12-Year-Old Blended Scotch Whisky, 40% ABV, 750 ml. 90 Points, Gold Medal–Exceptional First introduced in 1938, Chivas Regal 12 YO remains one of the world's best-known premium blended Scotch whiskies. Built around Strathisla malt whisky, it combines Speyside refinement with carefully matured grain whiskies to create the accessible, fruit-driven style that has defined the Chivas house character for generations. The whisky features aromas of fresh apple, pear, honey, vanilla, heather, citrus blossom, toasted barley, and subtle seasoned oak notes. It’s smooth, creamy, and very approachable on the palate, with a richness and depth of flavor that make it exceptionally easy to enjoy neat or in classic whisky cocktails. It showcases flavors of orchard fruits, honey, vanilla cream, caramel, citrus peel, malt sweetness, and delicate baking spices. The finish is medium-long, with lingering notes of vanilla, honey, fresh fruit, and subtle oak spices. The BevTest Judging Panel described the whisky as exhibiting “aromas of yeasty soda bread, nutshell, and chalk, along with flavors of frosted pound cake with nuts, and cappuccino gelato. A rock-solid blended Scotch for everyday pleasure.” Unlike single malt whisky, where one distillery defines the spirit's character, blended Scotch requires the orchestration of dozens of individual whiskies into a unified whole. Grain whisky provides elegance and texture, while carefully selected malt whiskies contribut

Jakarta, IO – Glengoyne and Tamdhu officially made their Indonesian debut through an exclusive grand launch celebration at Cohiba Atmosphere Jakarta on 25th June 2026, introducing two distinguished Scottish single malt houses to Indonesia’s growing premium whisky landscape. The evening gathered industry insiders, whisky enthusiasts, tastemakers, collectors, media figures, and public figures for an intimate invitation-only whisky experience attended by approximately 60 selected guests. As the night unfolded, guests moved through a curated dining and whisky pairing experience before the atmosphere gradually evolved into a more vibrant celebration of contemporary whisky culture and Jakarta nightlife. As Indonesia’s appreciation for premium single malts continues to evolve, consumers are increasingly looking beyond labels alone. Provenance, cask influence, production philosophy, and authenticity have become part of the conversation, particularly among a new generation of whisky drinkers seeking individuality and experience within the category. It is within this landscape that Glengoyne and Tamdhu make their arrival. Founded in 1833, Glengoyne has long been regarded as one of Scotland’s most elegant Highland distilleries, celebrated for its exceptionally slow distillation process and refined whisky style. Patiently crafted, the whisky reveals layers of honeyed orchard fruit, soft spice, and toasted oak carried through remarkable balance and restraint. Tamdhu, established in 1897 in the heart of Speyside, offers a striking contrast. Matured exclusively in Oloroso sherry casks, the distillery has become known for whiskies defined by richness and luxurious intensity — where notes of dried fruit, dark cacao, warming spice, and oak unfold with exceptional depth and texture. Together, the two distilleries represent two distinct interpretations of single malt Scotch whisky — one elegant and restrained, the other bold and deeply sherried. Speaking on the brands’ debut into Indonesia, Gordon Dundas, Brand Development & Advocacy Director for Glengoyne and Tamdhu, described the launch as an exciting step into one of Southeast Asia’s increasingly dynamic whisky markets. “By bringing together Glengoyne’s unhurried, character-driven style with Tamdhu’s dedication to exceptional sherry cask maturation, we are able to present a truly compelling portfolio of single malts in Indonesia. We’re delighted to be partnering with Cikel Abadi and firmly believe there is a significant opportunity to grow these brands in such an exciting and evolving market.” At the heart of the evening was a specially curated four-course dining experience created exclusively by Cohiba Atmosphere Jakarta for the occasion. The menu unfolded progressively throughout the night, beginning with a classic Caesar salad, followed by a comforting mushroom soup, before moving into a tenderloin entrée and concluding with tiramisu for dessert. Each course was thoughtfully paired with a different whisky expressions: Glengoyne 15 Year Old, Glengoyne 18 Year Old, Tamdhu 15 Year Old, and Tamdhu 18 Year Old. Guests moved naturally between conversation and discovery as each pairing revealed different dimensions within the whiskies, from the layered softness and restrained complexity of Glengoyne to the deeper richness and warming spice that define Tamdhu. Throughout the dinner, conversations lingered around texture, maturation, and cask influence, reflecting the growing appreciation among Indonesian whisky enthusiasts for experiences centered not simply around consumption, but exploration and craftsmanship. The evening also featured a bespoke cocktail crafted using Glengoyne 12 Year Old, offering a contemporary interpretation of single malt while highlighting the versatility beyond traditional serves. Bright citrus accents, gentle spice, and spirit-forward compositions allowed the whisky to evolve in different directions throughout the night while balancing classic Scotch whisky tradition with modern cocktail culture. Read More: AIA Indonesia Celebrates 30 Years With The Spirit Of ‘Moving For Impact’ As dinner transitioned into the later hours of the evening, the atmosphere gradually became more energetic and celebratory. Accompanied by live DJ performances alongside collaborations with a saxophonist throughout several moments of the night, the experience blended refined whisky appreciation with the vibrant pulse of Jakarta’s contemporary nightlife scene. Underlying the entire experience was a philosophy deeply shared by both distilleries: whisky should never be rushed. In a category increasingly shaped by speed and immediacy, both Glengoyne and Tamdhu remain committed to slower, more deliberate methods of production — from patient distillation to long maturation in carefully selected casks. Here, time is not simply part of the process. It becomes part of the flavor itself. Leading the local presence of the brands in Indonesia, Edhi Sumadi, Chief Principal for Glengoyne and Tamdhu in Indonesia, sees strong alignment between the distilleries and Indonesia’s rapidly evolving whisky culture. “It is a true pleasure to officially introduce Glengoyne and Tamdhu to Indonesia. We believe whisky enthusiasts today are increasingly looking beyond familiarity alone — they are becoming more curious about craftsmanship, provenance, and the stories behind what they drink. Both distilleries offer a remarkable sense of character while remaining deeply rooted in traditional whisky-making philosophy, and we are proud to bring these exceptional single malts into a market that continues to evolve in appreciation and sophistication.” Following the launch, Glengoyne and Tamdhu are set to begin their introduction into selected premium venues and whisky-focused destinations across Indonesia, allowing consumers to gradually discover two distinctive expressions of Scottish single malt craftsmanship. Rooted in patience and shaped by time, Glengoyne and Tamdhu arrive in Indonesia not simply as single malts, but as experiences designed to be appreciated slowly. (des)

The latest Beverage Testing Institute (BevTest) World Whisky Judging reaffirmed what whisky aficionados have long appreciated: there is no single style of great Scotch whisky. Instead, Scotland's reputation rests upon an extraordinary diversity of regional traditions, production philosophies, and maturation techniques. This year's highest-rated Highland, Islay, and Speyside single malts illustrate that remarkable range, from Oban's maritime elegance and Lagavulin's smoky complexity to Glengoyne's mastery of sherry cask maturation and Tamdhu's unfaltering commitment to European oak. Leading the field was Oban 15 Year Old Port Cask Finish, earning a Platinum Medal with 96 points, while six additional expressions received Gold Medal–Exceptional honors. Collectively, these whiskies demonstrate how thoughtful cask selection, patient maturation, and distinctive distillery character continue to define Scotland's greatest single malts. Below are brief backgrounds and my tasting notes on BevTest’s top-rated single malt Scotch whiskies. Oban 15 Year Old Port Cask Finish Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky, 55.3% ABV, 750 ml. 96 Points, Platinum Medal–Superlative Released as part of Diageo's Special Releases collection, the Oban 15 Year Old Port Cask Finish showcases one of Scotland's smallest and oldest distilleries in an unusually rich style. After traditional maturation in refill and re-charred refill American oak casks, the whisky receives a finishing period in carefully selected port-seasoned casks. The result preserves Oban's distinctive coastal character while contributing layers of red fruit richness and sweetness. The whiskey features aromas of fresh sea air, ripe raspberries, black cherries, orange peel, vanilla, toasted almonds, seasoned oak, and subtle maritime-inspired smoke. It’s rich, oily, and mouth-coating on the palate, exhibiting Oban's characteristic maritime character, weight, and fruity sweetness. It showcases flavors of red berries, plum preserves, salted caramel, honey, citrus zest, dark chocolate, and subtle peat smoke, along with warming oak spices and black pepper. The finish is exceptionally long with lingering notes of sea salt, dried fruit, gentle smoke, cinnamon, and seasoned oak. The BevTest Judging Panel described the whisky as exhibiting “aromas of truffle honey, tangerine, and dried lavender, along with flavors of smoked white rose, roasted pistachio, and incense. Fascinating flavors of white flowers, truffle honey, and lavender crown the full-bodied base of this warming glass of Scotch; pair with a good book and comfortable chair.” Glengoyne 21-Year-Old Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky, 43% ABV, 750 ml. 94 Points, Gold Medal–Exceptional Glengoyne's flagship aged expression illustrates the distillery's long-standing commitment to slow distillation and exclusive sherry cask maturation. Matured entirely in hand-selected European and American oak sherry casks for more than two decades, it develops extraordinary elegance while preserving the distillery's delicate fruity spirit. Glengoyne is also notable for using Scotland's slowest stills, maximizing copper contact and producing an exceptionally refined spirit. The whisky features rich aromas of dried figs, orange marmalade, seasoned oak, walnuts, vanilla, honey, dark toffee, and Christmas cake. It’s silky, creamy, and beautifully integrated with a pronounced mouth weight from the extended sherry maturation, showcasing flavors of raisins, dates, roasted almonds, dark chocolate, cinnamon, clove, orange peel, and rich toffee unfold in perfectly balanced layers. The finish is long, elegant, and warming, with lingering dried fruit, espresso, oak spices, and dark chocolate. The BevTest Judging Panel described the whisky as exhibiting “aromas of roasted pecan, pumpernickel, and violets, along with flavors of salted caramel, lemon, and honeysuckle. Layered and complex, with seamless flavors which weave caramel, chocolate, and cherries with toasted black bread and roasted salted nuts into a smooth, dry finish.” Glengoyne 18 Year Old Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky, 43% ABV, 750 ml. 93 Points, Gold Medal–Exceptional The 18 YO has become one of Glengoyne's benchmark expressions, showcasing the distillery's signature slow distillation and exclusive sherry cask maturation. The additional years in oak provide significantly greater complexity than the younger expressions while retaining remarkable freshness. The whisky features aromas of baked apple, honey, vanilla, raisins, toasted hazelnuts, orange zest, and seasoned oak, along with subtle floral notes. It’s creamy, rounded, and exceptionally well-balanced on the palate, exhibiting notable richness and Glengoyne’s characteristic mouth weight and oak integration. It showcases flavors of orchard fruits, butterscotch, dried apricot, cinnamon, roasted nuts, milk chocolate, and a persistent Sherry sweetness. The finish is long, smooth, sweet, and gently spicy with lingering notes of vanilla, dried fruit, and seasoned oak. The BevTest Judging Panel described the whisky as exhibiting “aromas of black walnut, lemon honey, and peanut candy, along with flavors of dried pear, and salted dark caramel. Rich, roasty and warming, this bold Single Malt will hold steadfast on its own or in an elevated stirred cocktail such as a Boulevardier or Vieux Carre.” The Dalmore 17 Year Old Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky, 43.8% ABV, 750 ml. 92 Points, Gold Medal–Exceptional Dalmore’s 17-YO reflects the distillery's celebrated multi-cask maturation philosophy. Initial aging in American white oak ex-bourbon barrels is followed by finishing in a combination of Matusalem, Oloroso, Apostoles Sherry, and rare wine casks, creating remarkable richness while preserving Dalmore's trademark citrus and chocolate profile. The whisky features aromas of orange zest, espresso, old leather, cinnamon, dark chocolate, roasted coffee, raisins, and seasoned oak. It’s robust and full-bodied on the palate, with a velvety texture and with The Dalmore’s signature concentration. It showcases flavors of orange marmalade, cocoa, dried figs, roasted coffee, dark cherries, cinnamon, cloves, toasted walnuts, and assorted oak spices. The finish is long and warming with lingering notes of chocolate, espresso, dried fruit, and seasoned oak. The BevTest Judging Panel described the whisky as exhibiting “aromas of leather, smoked honey, and green walnuts, along with flavors of toasted sesame, campfire, and honeysuckle. This is an excellent pour for an introduction to the Highland style.” Glengoyne 15-Year-Old Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky, 43% ABV, 750 ml. 90 Points, Gold Medal–Exceptional Positioned between the distillery's approachable younger whiskies and its luxury age-statement releases, the 15 YO benefits from full-term maturation in first-fill sherry casks, yielding exceptional richness while maintaining freshness and balance. The whisky features aromas of fresh apple, honey, vanilla, citrus peel, toffee, raisins, and toasted almonds. It’s smooth, creamy, and approachable, showing a balanced integration of fruit and seasoned oak. It showcases flavors of pear, honeycomb, caramel, orange zest, vanilla, cinnamon, and roasted nuts supported by sweet cooked malt. The finish is medium-long with lingering notes of fruit, subtle wood spices, and seasoned oak. The BevTest Judging Panel described the whisky as exhibiting “aromas of lightly toasted grain, lemon honey pecan spice cake, and dried apple, along with flavors of spiced maple butter, cardamom, and caramelized peach. Beautifully balanced and elegantly manicured, the notes of lightly toasted grain and spiced honey develop on the palate into cardamom and delicious caramelized peach.” Lagavulin 11 Year Old Sweet Peat Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky, 46% ABV, 750 ml. 93 Points, Gold Medal–Exceptional Originally developed in collaboration with actor Nick Offerman, the Sweet Peat edition presents a softer, sweeter interpretation of Lagavulin

2026 SIP大賞蘇格蘭威士忌得獎名單——五款消費者評選冠軍

Google News(Scotch/Distillery)|原題:The Best Scotch Whisky From The SIP Awards 2026 - The Whiskey Wash

SIP大賞採取一般消費者盲品評分的模式,迥異於業界評鑑。本屆五款蘇格蘭威士忌得獎作品涵蓋價格與風格多樣性:Bruichladdich The Classic Laddie 獲雙金獎(約台幣1,550元),Port Charlotte 10 Year Old 與 Cutty Sark 各獲金獎,Oban 15 Year Old Port Cask Finish 獲銀獎(約台幣4,000元)。獎項反映的是普通愛好者的實際口味偏好,而非專業評論家的結論。

Most spirits competitions rely on panels of industry professionals to decide their winners. The SIP Awards work differently, recruiting everyday consumers to blind-taste and score the entries, which cover whiskey alongside other categories like RTDs, liqueurs, and mixers. The idea behind the format is to capture what regular drinkers actually think rather than what critics conclude. This year’s competition attracted a large international field of entries, and among the winners were five Scotch whiskies. They range from an Islay single malt that earned Double Gold to a blend you can find on most supermarket shelves. Below, we look at how each one is produced, who makes it, and the history behind it. Bruichladdich The Classic Laddie Award: Double Gold Tasting Notes: Orchard fruits, toasted oak, citrus, vanilla, creme brulee, toffee, gingerbread, toasted bread, marzipan, coconut, rose, salt, stone fruits RRP: $49.99 The Classic Laddie is the flagship unpeated single malt from Bruichladdich, a distillery on the western shore of Islay that was built in 1881 by the Harvey brothers. After decades of changing hands and a spell of closure in the 1990s, a group of investors revived it in 2000, and it has been owned by Rémy Cointreau since 2012. The distillery is also a certified B Corp. Signup now to make sure you don't miss out on the latest whiskey news and deals. By Signing up, you accept and agree to our Terms of Services and you acknowledge our Privacy Statement. The Whiskey Wash is protected by reCAPTCHA, and the Google Privacy Policy and Terms of Service apply. The whisky is made entirely from Scottish barley and matured on Islay, primarily in ex-bourbon American oak, with the exact mix of casks and barley varieties changing from batch to batch. It is bottled at 50% ABV. One thing Bruichladdich is known for is transparency about what goes into each release: every bottle carries a code you can enter on their website to see the specific casks and vintages used in that batch. It sells for around $50, and although the SIP Awards listed it under the No Age Statement category, the distillery reinstated a 10-year age statement on the label in 2025. I think we can assume here that the SIP Awards judged the earlier NAS version. Port Charlotte 10 Year Old Award: Gold Tasting Notes: Earthy oak, caramel, fudge, vanilla custard, ginger, nutmeg, clove, citrus, thyme, heather, smoke, lemon honey, smoked oysters, salt, fudge, tropical fruits, banoffee pie RRP: $59.99 Port Charlotte is the peated single malt made at the same Bruichladdich distillery on Islay, so it shares the flagship’s approach: Scottish barley, distillation and maturation on the island, and bottling at 50% ABV without chill-filtration or added coloring. The difference is the peat. Port Charlotte is made with barley peated to 40 parts per million of phenols, which places it well above an unpeated malt while still sitting below Bruichladdich’s heavily peated Octomore line. The name comes from the village of Port Charlotte, a couple of miles from the distillery, where a distillery operated from 1829 until it closed in 1929. It was originally called the Port Charlotte distillery and later became known as Lochindaal. The 10-year expression is matured in a combination of cask types, currently listed at 65% first-fill American whiskey casks, 10% second-fill American whiskey casks, and 25% second-fill French wine casks. It arrived in 2018 as the first permanent age-stated release in the Port Charlotte range. Gleneffer Blended Scotch Whisky Award: Gold Tasting Notes: Oats, honey, vanilla, clove spice, toasted bread, roasted nuts, apricot, raisin, cinnamon, walnuts RRP: $49 Gleneffer is the least familiar name of the five, and the one with the least public information behind it. It is a blended Scotch owned by the Edgemill Group, an Australian beverage company based in Laverton North, near Melbourne. Edgemill lists Gleneffer among its own range of spirits and describes it, in its own materials, as “Imported from Scotland Bottled in Australia.” It is made from a mix of malt and grain whiskies and bottled at 40% ABV, and some Australian retailers list it with a 3-year age statement, which would be the minimum age for Scotch whisky. It is sold mainly through the Australian trade, which makes its Gold medal at a consumer-judged competition a reasonable talking point for a bottle most drinkers outside Australia will never have come across. Cutty Sark Blended Scotch Whisky Award: Gold Tasting Notes: Fresh, fruity, vanilla, citrus RRP: $15 Cutty Sark has one of the longer histories of any whisky on this list. It was created on March 23, 1923 by Berry Bros. & Rudd, a London wine and spirits merchant that has been trading since the late seventeenth century. The idea was to make a lighter, paler blended Scotch than the heavier styles common at the time. The name came from the Cutty Sark, a nineteenth-century tea clipper, and the ship still appears on the label. The whisky went on to become popular in the United States, including during the Prohibition years. The brand changed hands twice in recent decades. Berry Bros. & Rudd sold it to the Edrington Group in 2010, and Edrington sold it on to the French company La Martiniquaise-Bardinet in 2018. The Original is a blend of malt and grain whiskies, bottled at 40% ABV, and it is deliberately light in style. As with most blended Scotch, the full list of component whiskies is not published, but it is widely understood to contain grain whisky from Invergordon and North British with single malt from Glenrothes. It is the most widely available and affordable of the five whiskies here, typically selling for around $15 to $20. Oban 15 Year Old Port Cask Finish Award: Silver Tasting Notes: White wine, raspberries, vanilla ice cream, maritime freshness, honeyed sweetness, red fruit, pepper, spice RRP: $130 Oban is one of the oldest and smallest distilleries in Scotland, founded in 1794 by the brothers Hugh and John Stevenson in the west coast harbor town that later grew up around it. It sits on the coast between the Highlands and the islands, and its whisky is often described as carrying a maritime, coastal character. The distillery runs on a small scale, with a handful of employees and a pair of the smallest lantern-shaped pot stills in Scotland. It is owned by Diageo and was one of the original Classic Malts. This particular bottling is a limited-edition release announced in March 2026, and it is the second in a new annual 15-year cask-finished series that began with a sherry cask edition in 2025. The whisky spends 15 years in American oak hogsheads before finishing in ruby port casks, and Diageo has said the port finish was chosen to reflect the “shared coastal heritage” shared by Oban and the city of Porto in Portugal. It is bottled at 52.1% ABV and carries a suggested retail price of around $130, which makes it the most expensive of the five whiskies here. Final Thoughts These five whiskies cover a lot of ground. There are two single malts from Bruichladdich on Islay, a limited release from one of Diageo’s smallest distilleries, a century-old blend with a maritime namesake, and a lesser-known blend bottled on the other side of the world. Prices run from around $15 for the Cutty Sark up to $130 for the Oban, so there is something here across a range of budgets. What they share is a medal from a competition judged by everyday drinkers rather than a panel of experts, which is worth keeping in mind when you weigh the results against other awards. Have you tried any of these whiskies, or are there any you would like to seek out? And what do you make of a competition that puts the decision in the hand

Kingsbarns Distillery is located just outside of St Andrews, a seaside town known as the ‘home of golf ‘. The gin and Scotch whisky distillery was founded by local golf caddie Douglas Clement in 2009. The distillery said the opening of the outdoor putting green showcases its “tangible connection” to golf, allowing visitors to combine time on the green with a trip to the whisky distillery or its café. The new addition aims to be a “relaxed and accessible experience designed to appeal to golfers, whisky enthusiasts and tourists in search of something authentically and uniquely Scottish”. William Wemyss, founder and chairman of Wemyss Family Spirits, owner of Kingsbarns Distillery, said: “Golf and whisky have always felt naturally connected, and particularly so in a place like St Andrews where both are woven into the very identity of the area.” “We believed there was an opportunity to create something visitors would genuinely remember and which could only really exist in this part of Scotland. “The idea of enjoying a dram at a working distillery and then stepping onto a green overlooking the St Andrews coastline felt like a natural and fitting way to bring those two worlds together. “As whisky tourism becomes more competitive internationally, experiences that feel authentic and distinctive become increasingly important. We believe this offers something genuinely different.” Kingsbarns produces Lowland single malts with a “light and fruity floral character” using locally grown barley. It also makes gin under the Darnley’s brand. To celebrate the opening of the putting green, Kingsbarns will be running a competition for consumers during August. Distillery manager Peter Holroyd will take to the course to set a score, inviting visitors to try and beat it. Those who are successful are entered into a prize draw to win the distillery’s three-strong core range of Kingsbarns whiskies: Doocot, Balcomie and Coaltown. The opening of the putting green follows last September’s launch of Kingsbarns’ Caddies’ Dream whisky, inspired by St Andrews’ golfing legacy. Last month, St Andrews-based distillery Eden Mill launched a golf simulator challenge, giving players the chance to win a whisky cask worth £5,000 (US$6,670). Sometimes there is nothing more enjoyable than searching through unknown bottles in a specialist store to uncover hidden gems and new favorites. Equally, sometimes it’s nice to have something suggested to us, especially when it’s from someone who knows what they’re talking about. There are not many whisky experts who fulfill the “know what they’re talking about” criteria more completely than Alan G Wolstenholme, Honorary Professor at Heriot Watt University’s International Centre for Brewing and Distilling, Master of the Quaich and Chairman of the Scottish Whisky Awards. So when I met him recently I took the liberty of asking him to share his favorites across several categories. Wolstenholme more than delivered, with a handful of suggestions for seven different categories. The selection from to his most overlooked, to sherry selections, peated picks and a classic blend and more, is the checklist of dreams for whisky fans. Peated Whisky To Try “Being a judge in the Scottish Whisky Awards gives one the opportunity to experience some remarkable drams,” explained Wolstenholme to me over an email covering his suggested whiskies. “One of these was Ardbeg Uigeadail at 54.2%! Complex and honeyed, without the peat being overpowering.” If you’re not ready to dive right into the dominant peat side of whisky that Ardbeg tends to be known for then there are still options. “Peated whiskies are a bit of a “Marmite” offering, producing strong opinions amongst consumers,” he explains—if you’re not familiar with Marmite, it’s a prominent yeast extract brand in the UK whose name has become synonymous with something that divides opinions. The trick with peat, he explains, is to find the balance that works for you. “I very much like a tasting where one compares and contrasts the differences amongst Islay’s peated contenders (eg Laphroaig, Lagavulin, Bowmore etc.) and also the slightly subtler offerings of Talisker (Skye) and Highland Park (Orkney).” Sherried Scotch Whiskies That Aren’t Macallan “When I started in the industry in the 70s, it used to be said that every Speyside Distillery Manager’s second favourite dram was Macallan. Unfortunately, it has now been elevated into the super-premium luxury category, beyond the pockets of many mortals,” Wolstenholme explained. Of course, while Macallan may have built its reputation on exceptional sherried whiskies, there are plenty of other fantastic offerings from Speyside and beyond. Many can be purchased for less that the Macallan equivalents, giving even more scope for exploration and expanding your at home bar selection. Wolstenholme gives honorary mentions to Tamdhu, Glendronach and the award winning Glenallachie. But finally turns to Islay for an (unpeated) sherry cask offering. “Again, thanks to the Scottish Whisky Awards, I came across an outstanding contender from an unexpected quarter in the form of an unpeated Islay,” Wolstenholme adds. “Namely Bunnahabhain 21 Year Old at 53.6%. Complex, sweet and powerful!” Blended Scotch Whiskies Not To Be Overlooked For many scotch whisky fans who consider themselves connoisseurs, blended whiskies can sometimes be dismissed as boring, but this is really not the case. Quite apart from the fact that Johnnie Walker Black Label is often the go-to comfort dram for many whisky experts, the scotch whisky industry is built on its Master Blenders abilities to craft the perfect whisky whether that be “vatting” a single malt or blending single malt and grain whiskies. “Dewars Double Double 32 Year Old blend recently won “World’s Best Whisky” in the International Whisky Competition,” Wolstenholme clarifies. That blended whisky was up against both Scottish malts and whiskies from around the world and yet it was a blend that came out on top. “I would also like to mention some new kids on the block who are reinventing blends with creative whiskies that often feature total transparency as to the individual components: Turntable Spirits,” Wolstenholme adds. Turntable Spirits are a relatively young independent blending house based in Glasgow. Exports are limited at the moment but, if you can’t get hold of any where you’re based, Compass Box is a similar forward thinking blender more readily available outside the UK. If that’s not enough of a place to start then he also adds an honorary mention for Monkey Shoulder. “Partly because of its creativity in encouraging use in cocktails. But also because it reputedly contains a healthy proportion of Kininvie, a distillery I helped commission back in the early 90s!” The Best Cheap Scotch Whiskies? If you’re looking for something cost effective for your next bottle then Wolstenholme’s suggestion is to stick with the classics. “I would argue that all the standard proprietary blends and many of the supermarket ones offer incredible value for money, when you consider the costs and losses of holding stocks for a minimum of 3 years. You will be unlucky to come across a bad one.” If you want to go in search of something specific then he suggests picking up a bottle of White Horse or one of Wm. Grant’s blended offerings. “I like the peaty note in White Horse (traditionally Lagavulin, but now probably Caol Ila) and know WM. Grant’s is packed with great malts.” Expensive Scotch Whiskies Worth The Spend “I tend to regard any whisky described as luxury as out of my league and worry more has been spent on the packaging than the contents,” explained Wolstenholme. Fortunately, for whisky drinkers with similar concerns of packaging form over whisky quality, he has a few suggestions. “Amongst the ‘dear for a reason but worth it’ I would include any of the products from the wonderful time capsule that is Springbank Distillery,” he adds. “Start with the Springbank 15, but also consider its triple distilled but punchy stablemate Hazelburn 15, or the peated Longrow.” For an honorable mention he turns to a much newer distillery: “Amongst the recent wave of new distillers, I think the Arbikie Rye stands out and is well worth trying if you come across it.” Overlooked Whiskies To Track Down “The vast majority of both malts (+140 distilleries) and hundreds of blends are effectively overlooked as any retail outlet will only stock a couple of dozen” explained Wolstenholme. Even if you head to a specialist retailer you’re still looking at a fraction of the offerings of distilleries, blenders and independent bottlings that are available. So where do you start in search of hidden gems? “I would recommend seeking out malts such as Glen Scotia, Deanston, Longmorn and Inchgower. All under appreciated to the point of invisibility!” While for independent bottlers he suggests beginning with North Star Spirits for some of their single cask “gems.” The Most Underrated Scotch? Finally, if you're after something that even expert whisky drinkers might have passed over, there are a couple of routes to try. First of all looking for distilleries that have unusual, non-standard or traditional production methods or elements. If you’re after pushing the boundaries of your palate and drinking experience this can be a great place to start. “I confess to a partiality to whiskies which retain the outdated technology of worm tubs for condensing spirit vapour. Only about seven remain, and of those I would recommend one of Craigellachie’s offerings. The limited copper interactions produce beefy spirits.” The second route—beyond the suggestions in the Overlooked section—is exploring the numerous distilleries whose spirit primarily goes into blends. Diageo alone owns some 31 distilleries in Scotland, most producing whiskies for their world renowned blends, but which are also excellent in their own right. “I would mention that epitome of Speyside, Cragganmore. Had it not been owned by a company (Diageo) with such a wealth of options, I think it would have been promoted more. Delicate but tasty!” So there you have it, an array of scotch whisky suggestions for your next purchase so you too can drink whisky like a

約翰韋恩最愛的威士忌品牌源自1800年代,現在仍買得到

Google News(Whisky 綜合)|原題:John Wayne's Favorite Whiskey Brand Is From The 1800s, But You Can Still Find It Today - The Takeout

John Wayne's Favorite Whiskey Brand Is From The 1800s, But You Can Still Find It Today John Wayne was partial to whiskey. So much so, in fact, that his son started a bourbon brand in his honor. Duke Spirits was launched in 2013 and takes its title from the all-American actor's lifelong nickname. The bourbons produced by the company are based on custom blends Wayne's son found in his belongings after his death in 1979 as part of a larger collection of spirits. According to industry rumors, Duke's bourbons initially used a whiskey base supplied by Wild Turkey – and with good reason. Despite having a shining Hollywood career under his buckled belt, good old Wild Turkey was John Wayne's favorite tipple. The actor loved the stuff so much, in fact, that he used to order it by the case when he was working away from home. With a 50 year career and 175 movies to his name, it seems the Duke got through quite a few of those cases. His costars on pictures like "Donovan's Reef" and "True Grit" probably helped. Arguably, both John Wayne and Wild Turkey Bourbon hit their prime in the 1960s, the decade when America's favorite cowboy won his only Oscar while making some of his best movies. Meanwhile, Wild Turkey released its beloved 101 proof bourbon. Despite ongoing innovation in the decades since, Wild Turkey's core collection of whiskeys remains its primary claim as an American classic. How John Wayne liked to drink Wild Turkey Although John Wayne loved whiskey, the actor is also remembered as a cocktail lover, particularly enjoying a mixed drink after a long day on set. His main requirement in a drink? Simply that it was a good one. This is probably why Wayne enjoyed a good bourbon, because of its versatility. According to his son's business partner, co-founder of Duke Spirits Chris Radomski, quoted in Esquire, "[Wayne] talked about how it had to be balanced and smooth enough to drink out of a tin cup by stage hands in the middle of the dessert, or out of a nice tumbler with President Reagan." To this day, Wild Turkey remains an accessible staple. The mid-priced bourbon is just as at home in a cocktail as it is in a tumbler with ice, and it can be enjoyed in all seasons. Having a gunslinger summer? Try it in a whiskey sour, a simple mint julep, or another bourbon-based cocktail at your next cookout. Once the weather gets cooler, it'll be time for winter warmer whiskey cocktails. Of course, if you're really channeling the Duke, you'll have to sip your Wild Turkey straight out of a tin cup; a meeting with Reagan would require a Ouija board, and despite President Donald Trump's eating habits, he doesn't touch the stuff.
