Justerini & Brooks has reopened its 61 St James’s Street townhouse in London after an extensive restoration, marking a new chapter in a 277-year history. For whisky collectors, the draw is access to some of the deepest aged and closed-distillery Scotch in the trade through parent company Diageo, including Clynelish 1983 42 Year Old at £3,600, Mortlach 30 Year Old Midnight at £4,309.80, the Brora Triptych and forthcoming Diageo Rare Series releases. The four-storey house is open to private clients by appointment, with a ground-floor boutique for tasting and buying. A 277-year-old London merchant has just reopened its front door, and behind it sits one of the most specialist collections of rare spirits in the city. Justerini & Brooks has returned to 61 St James’s Street after an extensive restoration, reviving the four-storey townhouse it has occupied since the 1960s. For the fine wine trade this is a homecoming. For whisky drinkers, the more interesting detail is what is now sitting on the shelves: historic bottlings from Diageo’s Scotch portfolio, including whisky from distilleries that no longer exist. What has actually reopened The townhouse now runs across four floors and is open to private clients by appointment. The ground-floor boutique holds a curated selection you can taste and buy on the spot. Up a staircase lined with framed royal warrants is the first-floor Library, a duck egg blue salon for meeting the buying team, discussing collections and tasting. Above and below sit an invitation-only dining room and a restored historic cellar. If you have seen the photographs, the cellar is the one that will stick: an arched, vaulted room with a fan of backlit bottles and, on the tasting table, a decanter of Port Ellen Gemini 44 Year Old. That single prop tells you who this space is really aimed at. The whisky that matters here Justerini & Brooks has been part of Diageo since 1997, which gives it access to the deepest catalogue of aged and closed-distillery Scotch in the industry. That access is the whole point of 61 St James’s Street for a collector. Among the bottles named at the reopening are Clynelish 1983 42 Year Old at £3,600 and Mortlach 30 Year Old Midnight at £4,309.80, alongside collector whiskies such as the Brora Triptych and forthcoming releases in the Diageo Rare Series. Brora and Port Ellen are both silent distilleries whose stock is finite and disappearing, which is exactly why bottles from them command the prices they do. The offer extends past the shelves. Through Diageo’s footprint in Scotland, the merchant’s private client service can arrange bespoke distillery visits, the kind of access that is hard to buy at any price without the right introduction. Who is Justerini & Brooks Founded in St James’s in 1749, Justerini & Brooks has held a Royal Warrant continuously since 1761 and has supplied royal occasions for generations. It is best known in wine circles for Burgundy, Bordeaux, Champagne and German Riesling, sourced from its own stock and private reserves, and it serves private clients across more than 60 countries, with a 50-year presence in Hong Kong and further hubs in Singapore and Taiwan. St James’s itself is the historic heart of London’s old wine and spirits trade, a short walk from Buckingham Palace and home to centuries-old gentlemen’s clubs. The townhouse leans into that heritage rather than hiding it, keeping the clubby atmosphere while turning the focus toward tasting and collecting. Why now The reopening lands at a moment when Diageo has talked publicly about cutting costs across the business. Investing in a restored flagship dedicated to its rarest wine and spirits reads as a clear signal that the top end of the portfolio, the Port Ellens and Broras of the catalogue, remains a priority. Is it worth a look If you collect closed-distillery Scotch or you want a route to allocated and ex-cellar releases with advice attached, 61 St James’s Street is now one of the most direct doors in London, and the bespoke distillery access is a genuine draw. This is a space built for serious collectors and buyers, not a casual walk-in bottle shop, and the entry-level here is measured in thousands rather than tens of pounds. If your interest is a good dram for a Friday night, this is not the address. If your interest is Brora, Port Ellen or a cask of your own, it is. FAQ What is 61 St James’s Street? It is the historic London townhouse of fine wine and rare spirits merchant Justerini & Brooks, reopened in September 2026 after an extensive restoration. It spans four floors and is open to private clients by appointment. What whisky can you buy there? Historic bottlings from Diageo’s Scotch portfolio, including Clynelish 1983 42 Year Old, Mortlach 30 Year Old Midnight, collector whiskies such as the Brora Triptych, and forthcoming Diageo Rare Series releases, alongside a curated tasting selection in the ground-floor boutique. How much does the whisky cost? It sits firmly at the collector end. Named examples include the Clynelish 1983 42 Year Old at £3,600 and the Mortlach 30 Year Old Midnight at £4,309.80, with rarer bottlings priced higher. Can international buyers use Justerini & Brooks? Yes. The merchant serves private clients in more than 60 countries, with a 50-year legacy in Hong Kong and hubs in Singapore and Taiwan. The Macallan TIME : SPACE Sherry Cask is a 20-year-old single malt Scotch, the third release in the TIME : SPACE Collection and the first Macallan influenced by casks seasoned with the distillery’s own Valdespino sherry. It matured predominantly in European oak sherry-seasoned casks, then was married in a selection of the first 200 casks filled at the Valdespino bodega in Jerez during Macallan’s 2024 bicentenary. Bottled at 44.8% ABV with natural colour, it carries an RRP of £1,100 (around US$1,485, roughly €1,300) for 700ml. It launched on 17 September 2026, exclusively at The Macallan Boutique in Harrods, with wider UK and global availability from October. The Macallan has spent years quietly buying up the sherry supply chain that built its reputation. TIME : SPACE Sherry Cask is the first bottle that shows what that ownership actually tastes like. The headline is simple: this is the first Macallan matured and married in casks seasoned with the brand’s own Valdespino sherry. For a distillery whose entire identity rests on sherry-seasoned oak, that is not a marketing footnote. It is the closing of a loop. The key facts up front. It is a 20 Year Old single malt, bottled at 44.8% ABV with natural colour, 700ml, at an RRP of £1,100. It is the third chapter in the limited-edition TIME : SPACE Collection, and it launched on 17 September 2026 at Harrods before a wider rollout. Why this release matters: Macallan now owns its sherry Sherry-seasoned oak is the single biggest driver of Macallan’s flavour, and for most of its history the distillery bought that seasoning from Spanish bodegas it did not control. That changed when Edrington, Macallan’s owner, acquired the historic Jerez producer Valdespino along with two cooperages, taking ownership of the full sherry-seasoning journey from grape to stave to cask. In its 200th anniversary year in 2024, the team filled the first 200 casks ever seasoned at the Valdespino bodega. TIME : SPACE Sherry Cask is the first whisky to draw on that project, so it is genuinely a first taste rather than a repackaging. Lead whisky maker Euan Kennedy has been candid that the outcome was not a foregone conclusion, noting that when those 200 casks were filled the team did not yet know exactly what they would deliver. Master Whisky Maker Kirsteen Campbell frames it as a milestone in Macallan’s custodianship of its own sherry seasoning. What is the TIME : SPACE Collection? The collection debuted in September 2024 to mark Macallan’s bicentenary. The original TIME : SPACE was an 84 Year Old, the oldest whisky the brand had ever released. Alongside it came TIME : SPACE Mastery, a 5 Year Old and the first release from the new Macallan Distillery, drawing on ex-bourbon barrels, new American oak and sherry casks. This third chapter narrows the focus to sherry cask maturation only. Where Mastery was a snapshot of the distillery in its anniversary moment, Sherry Cask is a statement about where the sherry programme is heading. Each release in the collection shares a circular decanter. The presentation case here takes its cue from the Palomino grapes grown in the Valdespino vineyards and the golden light of Andalusia, tying the whisky visually to the Spanish source of its oak. The whisky: two rounds of sherry-seasoned oak The maturation happens in two distinct stages. The spirit first spent its long life in a selection of predominantly European oak sherry-seasoned casks on the Speyside estate. It was then married in a small batch from those first 200 Valdespino-seasoned casks, giving the whisky a second, more specific layer of sherry influence. At 44.8% ABV with natural colour and no age statement games (a stated 20 years), this sits as a considered, restrained expression rather than a cask-strength sherry bomb. The Macallan TIME : SPACE Sherry Cask: tasting note (official Macallan notes) Nose: sherry-soaked raisins, figs, medjool dates, dark chocolate truffles, cinder toffee, caramelised nuts, warming spice Palate: dried fruit, rich ginger cake, treacle toffee, bramble jam, chocolate-coated cherries, clove, cinnamon, cocoa nib Finish: warming wood spice, a hint of espresso, gentle oak ABV: 44.8% | Cask: European oak sherry-seasoned casks, married in Valdespino sherry-seasoned casks | Age: 20 years | Price: £1,100 (700ml) These are Macallan’s own published notes. We have not yet tasted this release, and will update this piece with our own assessment if we get it in the glass. Price and availability The RRP is £1,100 for a 700ml bottle, which converts to around US$1,485 and roughly €1,300. In the US the bottle is offered at an MSRP of $1,400 through The Macallan Ballot, which ran from 17 to 24 September 2026 and gives collectors first option on the release. In the UK it went on sale exclusively at The Macallan Boutique in Harrods from 17 September 2026, with a wider rollout across UK specialist retailers in October and global availability via themacallan.com. As with most TIME : SPACE bottles, expect it to reach international collectors quickly and to move onto the secondary market not long after. Is it worth £1,100? Be clear-eyed about what this is. TIME : SPACE Sherry Cask is a collector’s bottle first. At £1,100 for a 44.8% 20 Year Old, a meaningful share of the price sits in the provenance and the presentation: the first release from Macallan’s own Valdespino casks, filled in the bicentenary year, in a decanter built to be displayed. For the Macallan completist and the serious sherried-single-malt collector, that story is exactly the point, and the two-stage sherry maturation gives it a real reason to exist beyond the packaging. If what you actually want is 20-year-old sherried Macallan to open and drink, there are less expensive ways into that house style, and the gentle 44.8% ABV means this is built for slow contemplation rather than intensity. Buy it for what it represents and for the collection, not as an everyday pour. What to watch next: this is the first whisky from those 200 Valdespino casks, so it is almost certainly a preview of a broader own-sherry programme to come from Speyside. Frequently asked questions What is The Macallan TIME : SPACE Sherry Cask? It is a 20-year-old single malt Scotch whisky and the third release in Macallan’s limited-edition TIME : SPACE Collection. Bottled at 44.8% ABV, it is the first Macallan influenced by casks seasoned with the brand’s own Valdespino sherry, following the 2024 bicentenary releases. What does The Macallan TIME : SPACE Sherry Cask taste like? According to Macallan’s official notes, the nose offers sherry-soaked raisins, figs, medjool dates, chocolate truffles and cinder toffee. The palate brings dried fruit, ginger cake, treacle toffee, bramble jam and chocolate-coated cherries, with a finish of warming spice, espresso and gentle oak. How much does The Macallan TIME : SPACE Sherry Cask cost? The RRP is £1,100 for a 700ml bottle, which is around US$1,485 and roughly €1,270. In the United States it carries an MSRP of $1,400, offered through The Macallan Ballot. Expect higher prices once bottles reach the secondary market. Where can I buy The Macallan TIME : SPACE Sherry Cask? It launched on 17 September 2026 exclusively at The Macallan Boutique in Harrods, London. A wider UK specialist retail rollout follows in October, alongside global availability via themacallan.com. US buyers were served first through The Macallan Ballot from 17 to 24 September 2026. What makes the Valdespino connection important? Macallan’s owner acquired Valdespino and two Jerez cooperages, giving the distillery control over the full sherry-seasoning process. This is the first Macallan to use casks seasoned with that own-sourced Valdespino sherry, so it marks a shift from bought-in seasoning to in-house custodianship of the oak. What is the TIME : SPACE Collection? It is a limited-edition series launched in September 2024 for Macallan’s 200th anniversary. It began with an 84 Year Old, the oldest whisky the brand

🔥 蘇格蘭威士忌產業面臨困境——需求下滑、稅負沉重威脅就業

Google News(Scotch/Distillery)|原題:Is Scotland's whisky industry on the rocks? - STV News

Key Points - Scotch whisky remains one of Scotland’s most important exports, supporting around 40,000 jobs and making a major contribution to the economy - The industry is facing declining demand as consumers drink less alcohol and increasingly prioritise quality over quantity - Distillers warn that high UK taxes on Scotch are limiting investment and could lead to further job losses unless reduced in the Budget - Despite current challenges, smaller producers such as Arbikie see growth opportunities in emerging international markets, particularly in Asia - Rising costs and reduced whisky production are affecting the wider supply chain, with maltsters buying significantly less barley and some facilities closing Scotch whisky is arguably Scotland’s most famous export, a multibillion-pound success story that continues to shape the country’s economy and reputation abroad. The industry supports some 40,000 jobs in Scotland and sustains communities from the Highlands and Islands to the Central Belt through a vast supply chain. However, the whisky industry is facing a challenging period, with demand for the spirit declining in recent years. Habits are changing fast, and the industry is navigating a long-term shift in drinking habits. Consumers are increasingly choosing quality over quantity, and younger generations are drinking less alcohol than their predecessors. The industry has warned that more jobs could be lost unless the tax on Scotch whisky bottles sold in the UK is reduced in the upcoming Budget. Drinks giant Diageo said earlier this week that cuts to its Scottish operation would be essential to safeguard the company’s future. Angus distillery eyes international market The Arbikie distillery, near Montrose in Angus, is ramping up its operations despite the challenging economic backdrop. It makes premium spirits from vegetables on its family farm and is eyeing up new opportunities abroad. “There’s a bit of a downturn in whisky at the moment,” explained John Stirling, chief taster at Arbikie. “For big companies, that can be a slight fall of 3%, but they’re still making a lot of money. I’ve just been back from Singapore and Hong Kong, who are very much single malt drinkers. We see them as the real emerging markets. “Even a tiny increase in orders from India or China, in terms of single malt, we probably wouldn’t have enough single malt in Scotland to cope with the demand, so it’s not all doom and gloom.” John also said Arbikie had observed changing drinking habits in recent years. He added: “The advantage for a smaller distillery like us is that people tend to be drinking less, but they are drinking potentially better. “They’re looking to what they’re actually drinking, what the ingredients went into it, so that’s beneficial for us, the way we produce in a sustainable way and all the ingredients we put into it.” Maltsters also feeling the strain Just a few miles down the road, the Arbroath Maltings plant has undergone a major expansion – including a multi-million-pound investment that overhauled its Clova operation, making it one of the most modern malt production hubs in the UK. But maltsters across Scotland are also feeling the strain, with one in Pencaitland, East Lothian, closing earlier this year. Producing whisky is energy-intensive, and the increase in the price of fuel hasn’t helped those growing grains for the spirit or those distilling it. Maltsters are buying nearly 40% less malting barley now compared with the peak of whisky production in 2022. Owen Southwood, a member of the Malting Association of Great Britain, said: “We’ve had to try and manage our barley stock levels right away from farm through our process because we’re always working two years ahead of when the malt is demanded. “We’re dealing with 850 farmers directly in Scotland, and trying to manage their requirements, as well as ours, has been a particularly difficult thing. “I think as we go forward we will use a lot of the surplus barley in the next 12 months, but it will be a slow incremental increase rather than any major return to normality.” Lifting of US tariffs a welcome reprieve There was some good news for the sector earlier this year when the United States lifted tariffs on Scotch whisky. Scotland exports more whisky to the US than to any other country, with the Scotch Whisky Association (SWA) saying the tariffs had cost the industry about £150m, with the US market worth about £933m in 2025. The US had originally imposed a 10% levy on Scotch whisky in April 2025, which had been due to increase earlier this year to 25% for single malts. US President Donald Trump’s previous 25% Scotch tariff between 2019 and 2021 resulted in the sector losing more than £600m, or £1m a day, the SWA said. What does the whisky industry want to see in the Budget? The whisky industry says an increase on tax applied to bottles destined for the UK hasn’t helped their economic fortunes. Mark Kent from the SWA told STV News: “70% of what you pay for a bottle is taxed. When you’ve got the tax at that sort of level, it has an impact on the consumer. Obviously, they’ll think twice about buying their favourite tipple. “It has an impact on the industry; the money that goes in taxes is not money that would have been there for investment and creating jobs. At the moment, what we’re seeing is a very difficult domestic situation in terms of the cost of doing business, and that is leading to pauses in investment and job cuts.” Westminster said they won’t speculate on the upcoming Budget, but reiterated that job growth is a priority. A HM Treasury spokesperson said: “The chancellor is fully focused on his priorities, to give families and businesses a bit of breathing space, back British jobs, and drive growth in every postcode, underpinned by a commitment to meet the fiscal rules. “As has always been the case, decisions on tax are a matter for the chancellor to set out at fiscal events, rather than routinely commenting on rumour, speculation or proposals.” John from Arbikie says the excise duty on spirits is huge in the UK and makes it harder for the industry to grow. He told STV News: We’re competing worldwide as well. We’re competing against Japanese whisky, against different spirits, so it’s a big competitive disadvantage. “I think one of the aspects of single malt, in particular in Scotland and Scotch whisky, is that it’s not just the distillers. “There’s a whole support, there’s the farmers, there’s the maltsters, there’s the lorry drivers. “It’s a large industry that brings a lot of money to Scotland and the UK as a whole. “Therefore, to have such a competitive disadvantage in a changing world economy makes it much harder.” Follow STV News on WhatsApp Scan the QR code on your mobile device for all the latest news from around the country

威士忌投資的5大真相:罕見橡木桶熱潮背後的現實

Google News(Whisky 綜合)|原題:Whisky Investment: 5 Hard Truths Behind the Rare Cask Boom - Global Brands Magazine

Whisky Investment: 5 Hard Truths Behind the Rare Cask Boom Whisky investment returned about 280% over a decade, then cooled. Here is what rare casks and bottles really deliver now, and how to dodge the traps. Key Takeaways: - Whisky investment delivered roughly 280% over the decade to the mid-2020s on the Knight Frank index, before slipping about 3% in 2025. - Blue-chip names such as Macallan, Springbank and Bowmore have held their value best through the correction. - Casks are not part of the headline index and carry storage, ownership and exit risks that bottles do not. Whisky investment has spent the past decade being talked about like a sure thing, the sort of asset that only ever goes up while tasting rather good along the way. The reality in 2026 is more grown-up, and frankly more interesting. Rare bottles rose about 280% over the ten years to the mid-2020s on the Knight Frank Luxury Investment Index, one of the strongest runs of any collectable asset. Then, in 2025, that same index dipped roughly 3%. Not a crash. Just a reminder that liquid gold can lose a little of its shine. What whisky investment actually returns Start with the headline, because it is genuinely impressive. A 280% gain over a decade beats most fine-art and classic-car benchmarks, and it turned a niche hobby into a recognised corner of the alternative-assets world. But averages hide a lot. The very top bottles did the heavy lifting, while plenty of mid-tier releases went sideways or drifted lower once the froth came off. The 2025 dip matters for anyone treating whisky investment as a one-way bet. Prices for hyped, speculative releases softened first, exactly as you would expect after a long run. What held up were the blue chips. Analysts who track the secondary market note that a Macallan 18-year Sherry Oak kept roughly 92% of its 2024 value through the correction, and distilleries with genuine scarcity and reputation, Macallan among them, alongside Springbank and Bowmore, proved the most resilient. Truth one: the index tracks bottles, not casks This trips up newcomers constantly. The Knight Frank figures cover rare bottles at auction. Casks are a separate game entirely, and they are not in that index. Buying a cask can work beautifully when it is done properly, but it means bonded warehouse storage, watertight ownership paperwork, insurance and, crucially, a credible way to sell at the end. Skip any of those and the romance evaporates fast. Truth two: provenance is the whole game now The market has shifted from buying anything shiny to hunting for proven quality. In January 2026 a single bottle of 1982 Old Rip Van Winkle sold at Sotheby’s for $162,500, a record that tells you demand for the genuinely rare is alive and well. What has faded is the appetite for speculative bottlings with thin stories. High critic scores, documented history and a distillery people actually cherish are now doing the work. The froth has gone. What is left is a market that rewards patience, provenance and a genuine love of the liquid, not a quick flip. Truth three: it is illiquid, and that is the point You cannot sell a rare cask the way you sell a share. Auctions run on a calendar, buyers for six-figure bottles are few, and fees stack up. Seasoned collectors treat whisky investment as a multi-year hold, not a trade. If you might need the cash next quarter, this is not where it belongs. Truth four: the traps are well worn Cask investment in particular has attracted operators who overpromise. Inflated valuations, unclear ownership, storage that cannot be verified, and exit routes that turn out to be imaginary. None of that means the asset is bad. It means the buyer has to do the boring diligence, or pay a reputable broker to do it, before any money moves. Truth five: it still belongs in a diversified corner Used sensibly, whisky investment behaves like other passion assets. It does not move in lockstep with equities, it offers a hedge of sorts against inflation, and it comes with a pleasure dividend that a bond certificate never will. That is why it keeps turning up alongside the central-bank gold buying and commodity records we have covered, as investors look beyond stocks for durable stores of value. So is whisky investment still worth the glass? For the right person, yes, with eyes open. Here is the short version: - Favour blue-chip distilleries with proven auction history. - Treat casks as a specialist route with real paperwork, not a shortcut. - Assume years, not months, before you sell. - Verify provenance and storage before you part with a penny. The decade of easy gains is behind us. What remains is a maturing, more honest market that rewards knowledge and patience. For more on where wealth is flowing as investors chase alternatives, browse our Finance coverage and our look at the great wealth transfer now reshaping luxury assets. How the whisky investment market got here It helps to remember how heated things once were. Between roughly 2018 and 2022, whisky investment turned into a genuine mania, with prices for rare bottles climbing so fast that newcomers piled in expecting quick profits. Auction records fell almost monthly, brokers sprang up overnight, and the phrase “liquid gold” got a workout. Some of that money was smart. A lot of it was chasing a trend it did not understand. The cooling since then has been healthy rather than alarming. When the wider luxury market softened and interest rates rose, speculative buyers stepped back, and the weakest releases gave up their gains first. What that left behind is a whisky investment market that looks more like fine wine or art, patient, provenance-driven and less prone to hype. The people still buying tend to know their distilleries, read the critic scores, and treat a bottle or cask as a long hold rather than a lottery ticket. For anyone tempted to start, the sensible path is unglamorous. Buy the best you can afford from names with a real auction record, use reputable specialists, insist on documentation, and never commit money you might need soon. Whisky investment can absolutely earn its place in a diversified collection of passion assets. It just rewards knowledge and nerve far more than it rewards enthusiasm. It is worth stressing the tax and cost angle that glossy brochures tend to skip. Auction houses take a buyer’s premium and a seller’s commission, insurance and bonded storage add up over the years, and depending on where you live a sale may carry tax consequences. Those frictions do not kill the case for whisky investment, but they do mean the paper return and the real, in-your-pocket return can differ by a wide margin. Run the numbers before the romance takes over, and the decade ahead is likely to reward the disciplined far more than the dazzled.

Kavalan Whisky Live Paris 2026 is the one to route your weekend around. The distillery is bringing five single-cask, cask-strength Taiwanese single malts selected for La Maison du Whisky’s 2027 catalogue, and one of them, the Solist Peated Cask, is a Whisky Live Paris exclusive. You will find them at Booth 85 from 26 to 28 September. The timing is not accidental. 2026 marks 20 years since Kavalan distilled its first spirit in Yilan, and the 70th anniversary of La Maison du Whisky in Paris. The two have worked together for more than a decade, so this set of casks reads as a shared anniversary rather than a one-off drop. The five selections: what La Maison du Whisky picked The five casks sit under The Anthologists, the theme of LMDW’s 2027 Creations Collection. The labels take their cues from natural textures and abstract art, one design language across a range that deliberately spans sherry, wine and peat. Here is the line-up and where each cask type usually takes Kavalan’s spirit. These are the directions to expect from the cask types, not verified notes on these specific barrels. We will publish full tasting notes once we have them in the glass in Paris. | Selection | Range | Cask | Expected direction | |---|---|---|---| | Solist Oloroso Sherry Cask | Solist | Oloroso sherry | Dried apricot, fig, walnut, dark chocolate, orange peel | | Solist Vinho Barrique Cask | Solist | Portuguese wine barrique | Ripe berries, plum, coconut, vanilla, warm spice | | Peatist ex-Bourbon Cask | Peatist | Ex-bourbon, peated | Light peat smoke, vanilla, tropical fruit, cream | | Peatist Oloroso Sherry Cask | Peatist | Oloroso sherry, peated | Smoke against dried fruit, savoury, leather | | Solist Peated Cask (WLP exclusive) | Solist | Peated cask strength | Kavalan smoke at full strength, fruit-forward core | ABV: Cask strength, individual per cask. Format: Single cask, so each is limited to one barrel’s yield Price: Not yet announced (via La Maison du Whisky’s 2027 catalogue) The Vinho Barrique is worth flagging for anyone new to Kavalan. The distillery’s work with Portuguese red-wine barriques is one of the things that put Taiwanese whisky on serious drinkers’ radar, and seeing it sit next to two Oloroso casks and two Peatist expressions gives a clean read on the full house range in one flight. The show exclusive: Solist Peated Cask The Kavalan Solist Peated Cask is the one you can only meet at the festival for now. A single-cask, cask-strength peated Solist is not something Kavalan releases often, and pairing it with the wider LMDW selection makes Booth 85 the place to try it first. If peat at full strength is your thing, this is the reason to plan your route around Kavalan early. Who Kavalan is, and why the climate matters Kavalan has been distilling in Yilan County, Taiwan, since 2005, backed by more than 45 years of drinks-making at parent company King Car Group. The distillery has collected over 1,000 gold-or-higher medals across the major international competitions. The reason to care about a Taiwanese single malt is maturation speed. Kavalan ages in heat and high humidity, drawing on meltwater from Snow Mountain and the sea and mountain breezes of Yilan. That climate pulls flavour out of the wood far faster than a Scottish warehouse would, which is why a young Kavalan can carry the depth you would expect from something much older. It also gives the spirit the creamy texture the distillery is known for. Kavalan Whisky Live Paris 2026: the practical details Dates: 26 to 28 September 2026 Venue: La Grande Halle de la Villette, Paris Kavalan booth: No. 85 Masterclasses: Saturday 26 September, 3:10 to 3:40 p.m., Room 2; Monday 28 September, 5:00 to 6:00 p.m., Anthology Room The Kavalan stand is built to recreate the feel of the distillery’s warehouses in Taiwan, so it is as much a walk-through as a tasting bar. Our take This is our fourth Whisky Live Paris, and it stays near the top of the list of events we tell people to go to: the pours are genuinely good, the room is full of people worth talking to, and there are always a few bottles you cannot find anywhere else. A five-cask Kavalan flight with a peated Solist you can only taste on the floor is exactly that kind of reason to make the trip. We will be at Booth 85 across the weekend and will follow up with proper tasting notes on all five once we have worked through them. If you are going, the two masterclasses are the smart way to get the casks explained by the people who chose them. Frequently asked questions What is Kavalan showing at Whisky Live Paris 2026? Jack Daniel's American Single Malt 評測:更溫和、更果香的傑克丹尼爾?

Google News(Whisky 綜合)|原題:Jack Daniel's American Single Malt review: A gentler, fruitier Jack? - Hilton Head Island Packet

Jack Daniel's American Single Malt review: A gentler, fruitier Jack? Single malts are a bit of a gimmick when it comes to American whiskeys. By definition, they're made from 100 percent malted barley and from a single distillery. Instead of being aged in single use, brand new barrels, they can instead spend years in used casks to impart new flavors -- which takes a little bit of air out of the single-origin whiskey compared to a blend. In the U.S., this means whiskeys that are less sweet and bring a little more depth. But unless you're drilling down on those flavors with each sip, you might not see the difference between the two. It's not an automatic indicator of quality, and sometimes it can be an unwanted twist on comforting source material. Since it's a style most commonly associated with Scotches, it tends to be a price multiplier regardless of whether the spirit inside is rising alongside it. There are still plenty of very good American single malts. The question is whether Jack Daniel's makes one. Let's see how it tastes. Jack Daniel's American Single Malt: A- This pours lighter than expected; it's not thin, but it's also not as dense as the other longer-aged whiskeys I've been drinking lately. There are minimal legs left behind on the glass after being tipped from its one-liter square bottle. The smell off the top, as expected, is plum and grape and some sugar and mash underneath it. The first sip is, quite possibly, one of the most gentle openers I've had in a neat glass of whiskey. The American Single Malt is remarkably mellow. There's a swirling current of flavors that don't overpower, but instead mesh nicely together. It has almost a cool, chilling effect when it hits your lips. It starts off sweet at the tip of your tongue, then allows those fruit flavors to kick in. There's cherry, plum... lots of dark fruit influences that remain the headline of each sip. There's a very dessert feel here, as some brown sugar and cinnamon wrap things up on the way to your esophagus. The finish is stupidly smooth -- not unheard of from Jack Daniel's, but maybe even a step beyond the typical, sweet, mellowed charcoal influence. It's a perfect whiskey for someone who doesn't like whiskey. It's a perfect whiskey for someone who likes the Original No. 7 but wants something with a little more depth. It's a brutal pickup for someone who doesn't want sweet, fruit flavors in their tipple. I'm right in the middle of that sweet spot. This is solid as hell. Would I drink it instead of a Hamm's? This a pass/fail mechanism where I compare whatever I'm drinking to my baseline cheap beer. That's the standby from the land of sky-blue waters, Hamm's. So the question to answer is: on a typical day, would I drink Jack Daniel's American Single Malt over a cold can of Hamm's? Yes. It's a great step into a world of denser, fruitier whiskeys without losing the core of what makes Jack, Jack. This is part of FTW's Beverage of the Week series. Here, we mostly chronicle and review beers, but happily expand that scope to any beverage that pairs well with sports. Yes, even cookie dough whiskey. Jameson Black Barrel:60美元以下最佳威士忌,也是Jameson品牌首選

Google News(Whisky 綜合)|原題:One Of The Best Whiskeys Under $60 Is Also Our Top Pick From This Iconic Irish Brand - Tasting Table

One Of The Best Whiskeys Under $60 Is Also Our Top Pick From This Iconic Irish Brand We may receive a commission on purchases made from links. As the best-selling and best-known Irish whiskey in the world, Jameson more than deserves its laurels, with a smoothness derived from triple distillation and a versatility that should earn that signature green bottle a spot in any decent drinks cabinet. However, another option is worth considering, especially for those who want a whiskey that strikes a balance between quality and affordability: Jameson Black Barrel is not only one of the best whiskeys under $60, but also our top pick from the iconic Irish brand. Made with a significantly higher proportion of single pot still whiskey than other Jameson varieties, Black Barrel owes its name to being matured in double-charred barrels, and the resulting flavor profile proved a hit with Tasting Table's critics. In our recent rundown of the 16 best whiskey bottles under $60, our tester declared: "It's perhaps the best bottle in the core Jameson range, taking the approachable character you get from its flagship bottle and adding some more richness and complexity." Jameson's promise of a sweet yet spicy tasting experience was delivered upon, with our critic reporting: "There's a velvety combination of caramel, honey, and vanilla contrasted by more earthy notes of roasted nuts, cinnamon, and charred oak, before you get to enjoy warming spice on an impressive finish." Bourbon fans will find much to enjoy in Jameson's Black Barrel We at Tasting Table so enjoyed Black Barrel that we didn't just recommend it to those eager for a good tipple while watching their wallet, but placed it in the top spot after trying and ranking five Jameson Irish whiskeys. Our critic took particular note of the flavors imparted by Jameson's common use of bourbon or fortified wine barrels for the ageing process. The result is a whiskey elevated by "everything that's great about bourbon." Elaborating, our tester explained: "Black Barrel ripples with citrus and brown sugar, and ... there's something like potassium or oxalic acid, a metallic umami that will make you wonder if someone managed to deduct all the actual earth from potting soil ... Black Barrel is a mystery, but worth your investigation even if you never solve it." On social media, other whiskey fans were similarly impressed. Writing on the r/whiskey subreddit, one commenter described Black Barrel as "hands down the best whiskey you can get under $50," while another judged it "one of the most underrated bottles in the Irish section." Despite how well this whiskey can be enjoyed neat or on the rocks, our critic added that Black Barrel is extremely well-suited for cocktails. While Jameson themselves recommend using it for an Old Fashioned or a Whiskey Sour, you should also consider it an excellent candidate for a classic whiskey highball, the clean, effervescent simplicity of which would allow the whiskey's subtleties to shine, rather than being overpowered or obscured.

The Scotch Babe Ruth Reached For When He Wanted A Drink We may receive a commission on purchases made from links. Babe Ruth was as legendary for his pitching as he was for his hitting, becoming one of the "First Five" baseball players inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame. Ruth's notoriety extended off the field as well, where he was known for excessive drinking and partying. Those aren't unique interests for professional athletes these days, but Ruth's career spanned from 1914 to 1935 — Prohibition in the United States was in effect from 1920 to 1934. The 18th Amendment was no match for the Bambino, however. In the book "The Big Bam: The Life and Times of Babe Ruth," biographer Leigh Montville wrote, "Beer and Scotch and hot dogs were his nutritional supplement of choice" (via The Washington Post). His Scotch of choice was Dewar's. In 1992, Ruth's former Yankees teammate Charlie Devens recounted how Ruth downed a whole quart of whisky while traveling by train between Boston and New York (via Los Angeles Times). Although Ruth reportedly started drinking beer as a child, Scotch was his go-to drink throughout much of his life. His daughter Dorothy recalled that he "would drink a highball, smoke a cigar and chew tobacco—all at the same time" in her book, "My Dad, the Babe." In a 2014 interview with CBS News, Ruth's daughter Julia specified that Dewar's was his favorite. Dewar's invented the highball in 1892, and Ruth undoubtedly had history with the brand, seeing as he worked at his father's saloon for a time at the beginning of his baseball career. Dewar's and Babe Ruth have connections to one another's industries Dewar's relationship with American sports didn't start or end with Babe Ruth. Sir Thomas Dewar, the son of Dewar's founder, was a huge soccer fan and donated the original trophy for the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open, America's oldest ongoing national soccer competition. The trophy still bears his name — The Dewar Cup. In 2021, Dewar's became the official Scotch of the U.S. Open golf championship. The latter connection feels particularly appropriate for Ruth, who was an avid golfer and outdoorsman in addition to being a prolific baseball player. While Dewar's was Ruth's favorite Scotch, his name has found its way onto another liquor brand's bottle nearly a century after his playing days. In 2024, Remus Bourbon partnered with Ruth's family to create Babe Ruth Reserve, a limited-edition whiskey that combined three separate bourbon mash bills — a nod to Ruth's No.3 Yankees jersey. Babe Ruth Reserve had an initial release of 10,624 bottles, corresponding to Ruth's plate appearances. A subsequent release of 8,399 bottles in 2025 represented his career at-bats. Funnily enough, Remus Bourbon is named for George Remus, known as "The King of Bootleggers," for his Prohibition-era sales of illegal liquor. It's a fitting connection to Ruth's legacy. Nearly a century later, the Bambino is still readily associated with the booze-soaked world of Prohibition when, whiskey was still America's drink of choice.

Glenlivet 12 Provence Edition:斯佩賽威士忌法國葡萄酒桶新款上市

Google News(Scotch/Distillery)|原題:The Glenlivet 12 Provence Edition: Speyside single malt finished in French wine casks - thedailywhisky.com

The Glenlivet 12 Provence Edition is a limited-edition Speyside single malt, the latest entry in the distillery’s Beyond Speyside series. It takes the standard 12-year-old and finishes a portion in French sweet wine casks and Provence Cru Classé casks from Château Sainte Marguerite, giving a floral, peach-led twist on the house style. It is bottled at 40% ABV in 70cl. Released in September 2026, it carries a recommended price of around £39 (about $54.99 or €50) and is available across the UK and much of Europe, including Denmark, through The Glenlivet’s online shop and selected retailers. The Glenlivet has taken its 12-year-old on holiday to the South of France. Released in September 2026, the 12 Provence Edition finishes a portion of the distillery’s core Speyside malt in French wine casks, and the profile is pitched as floral, peachy and honeyed rather than the usual orchard-and-vanilla character. It is the latest bottling in the Beyond Speyside series, the range where The Glenlivet steps outside its normal maturation and tries something with a different accent. Here the accent is, unmistakably, French. The brand’s own line for it is “Scotch with a je ne sais quoi.” What is The Glenlivet 12 Provence Edition? At its core this is the familiar Glenlivet 12, matured first in oak, with a portion then given extra time in French wine casks. The age statement stays at 12 years and the strength stays at 40% ABV, so this is a finishing project rather than a new recipe or a higher-proof release. The bottle is 70cl. The casks are where the story lives. The Glenlivet describes the finish as French sweet wine casks together with Provence Cru Classé casks from Château Sainte Marguerite, a Côtes de Provence estate. Wider reporting on the release points to Sauternes and Rivesaltes as the sweet wines involved. For readers outside France: Sauternes is the sweet white of Bordeaux, Rivesaltes is a fortified sweet wine from Roussillon, and Cru Classé is a small, tightly controlled quality tier in Provence. What the casks are meant to do Sweet wine and Provençal white wine casks pull a Speyside malt in a different direction from the sherry and bourbon wood most drinkers know. Instead of dried fruit and heavy spice, the brief here is brightness: stone fruit, florals and a honeyed sweetness. The Glenlivet’s Cask Master frames the finish as adding complexity and elegance, with light, fruity and floral notes meant to, in the brand’s words, “evoke the beauty of Provence.” Official tasting notes (The Glenlivet) We have not tasted this one yet, so these are The Glenlivet’s own notes rather than ours. Nose: white peach in syrup, toasted almond, floral meadow Palate: ripe nectarine, vanilla crème brûlée, marzipan, white chocolate Finish: warm floral honey, soft and long ABV: 40% | Casks: oak, then a portion finished in French sweet wine and Provence Cru Classé casks | Price: RRP around £39 (about $54.99 or €50) How it differs from the standard Glenlivet 12 The regular Glenlivet 12 is the reference point for a light, approachable Speyside: soft tropical fruit, a little citrus, and a honeyed, vanilla-tinged finish. The Provence Edition keeps that easy-going base and layers the wine-cask influence on top, which is where the extra florals, the peach and nectarine, and the marzipan sweetness come from. Same age, same strength, a sunnier accent. A brief on The Glenlivet The Glenlivet was founded in 1824 by George Smith and became one of the first legally licensed distilleries in the Livet Valley, in Speyside. Today it is part of Chivas Brothers under Pernod Ricard, and it remains one of the biggest single malt names in the world. The house style is deliberately light and fruit-forward, which is exactly why finishing experiments like this one work: there is room for the casks to shape the spirit without a heavy base fighting them. Price and availability The Provence Edition is a limited release with a recommended price of around £39 in the UK, roughly $54.99 in the US, and about €45 to €50 across Europe, in a 70cl bottle. It is available through The Glenlivet’s own online shop and selected retailers. For European readers, the official shop lists availability across a long run of countries including Germany, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Ireland and the UK, with free home delivery over £200. In the US, it is rolling out through retailers, and New York gets a pop-up, Le Café du Whisky, running through October with a Provence-inspired peach tart from pastry chef Michelle Palazzo of Frenchette Bakery. As with any limited Beyond Speyside release, if you want a bottle it is worth moving before your market sells through. What to make of it At £39 and 40% ABV, this is priced as an everyday exploration rather than a collector’s piece, which suits a finish-led 12 well. If you enjoy The Glenlivet’s soft, fruit-forward style and want to see what French sweet wine and Provençal white wine casks do to it, it is a low-cost, low-risk detour. If your taste runs to cask strength, heavy sherry or peat, expect this to read as gentle and summery. The genuinely interesting part is the Cru Classé cask choice, and whether that pedigree shows up in the glass is what we will be looking for when we get to taste it. Frequently asked questions What is The Glenlivet 12 Provence Edition? It is a limited-edition Speyside single malt in The Glenlivet’s Beyond Speyside series. The standard 12-year-old is finished, in part, in French sweet wine casks and Provence Cru Classé casks from Château Sainte Marguerite. It is bottled at 40% ABV in 70cl and was released in September 2026. What does The Glenlivet 12 Provence Edition taste like? Per The Glenlivet’s official notes, the nose shows white peach in syrup, toasted almond and floral meadow. The palate brings ripe nectarine, vanilla crème brûlée, marzipan and white chocolate, and the finish is warm floral honey. In short, floral and stone-fruit led rather than sherried or peated. What casks are used in the Provence Edition? It is matured first in oak, then a portion is finished in French sweet wine casks and Provence Cru Classé casks from Château Sainte Marguerite, a Côtes de Provence estate. Wider reporting on the release names Sauternes and Rivesaltes as the sweet wines involved. How much does The Glenlivet 12 Provence Edition cost? The recommended retail price is around £39 in the UK, roughly $54.99 in the US, and about €45 to €50 in Europe, for a 70cl bottle. As a limited edition, prices at individual retailers can move once the first stock sells through, so early buyers tend to pay closest to RRP. Where can I buy The Glenlivet 12 Provence Edition? It is available from The Glenlivet’s official online shop and selected retailers. The shop lists European availability across many countries including Denmark, Germany, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Ireland and the UK, with free home delivery over £200. In the US it is rolling out through retailers, with a New York pop-up through October. How is it different from the standard Glenlivet 12? Same 12-year age and same 40% ABV, but a different finish. The core 12 is a light, fruit-forward Speyside built on oak. The Provence Edition keeps that base and adds a floral, peach and marzipan layer from its time in French sweet wine and Provence Cru Classé casks. Leave a Reply

Say Islay, and most people think peat and smoke. At least, that’s the image many whisky drinkers have of the Scottish island. Yet the range is far more diverse. Alongside big peat monsters, Islay also produces whiskies that are fruity, sweet, and even completely unpeated. So which Islay whiskies are truly worth trying in 2026? For this selection, we didn’t just round up the priciest or oldest bottles. We looked at whiskies that are currently available, the bottling’s reputation, recent awards and 2026 developments, and what each whisky adds to the broader picture of Islay. That’s why you’ll find familiar classics like Lagavulin 16 and Laphroaig 10, as well as a key newcomer from 2026. We’ve also deliberately chosen different styles. From heavily peated to sherry-driven and even fully unpeated. Instead of ten versions of the same dram, you’ll get a real sense of everything Islay has to offer. Lagavulin 16 Year Old Some bottles are almost impossible to leave out of any Islay roundup. Lagavulin 16 Year Old is one of them. The 16-year-old is even described by the brand itself as a benchmark for Islay. It also took gold in 2025 at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition and the New York International Spirits Competition, among others. - Nose: Intense peat smoke, iodine, seaweed, and a deep sweetness. - Palate: Dry peat smoke, sweetness, salt, sea air, and oak. - Finish: Long and elegant, with peat, salt, and seaweed. Ardbeg Uigeadail We’re starting strong. Ardbeg Uigeadail is one of the distillery’s most famous whiskies, blending Ardbeg’s signature smokiness with a darker, sweeter profile. It’s renowned for its combination of peat smoke, dried fruit, and spice. At 54.2% ABV, Uigeadail is anything but a timid dram. According to Ardbeg, you can expect notes of fruitcake, walnuts, spices, smoked meats, and deep, smoldering smoke. - Nose: Fruitcake, walnut, floral hints, sea breeze, cedarwood, leather, and glowing embers. - Palate: Dark sweetness, winter spices, smoked meat, and bold peat smoke. - Finish: Long, powerful, and smoky, with spicy, almost cigar-like tones. Kilchoman Rockside 11 Year Old This bottle makes the list for a very different reason. Kilchoman Rockside 11 Year Old only launched in June 2026 and is the first age-stated whisky in Kilchoman’s core range. The whisky is made with barley from Rockside Farm and, according to Kilchoman, is produced entirely on the farm: from growing and malting the barley to distillation, maturation, and bottling. At 20 ppm, it’s clearly more lightly peated than Machir Bay and Sanaig. - Nose: Light peat with tropical fruit, citrus, and gentle sweetness. - Palate: Fruit, malt, delicate smoke, and mixed spices. - Finish: Softly smoky, fruity, and spicy. Rockside 11 is one of the most interesting new permanent Islay bottlings of 2026, while showcasing a lighter side of Kilchoman. Bunnahabhain 12 Year Old Bunnahabhain 12 Year Old proves that Islay whisky doesn’t have to be heavily peated by default. Smoke hardly takes center stage here. Instead, it’s all about fruit, nuts, sweetness, and a gentle coastal touch. The distillery highlights notes like dried fruit, vanilla, and caramel. - Nose: Fresh and aromatic with fruit, florals, and dried fruits. - Palate: Fruit, nuts, vanilla, and light caramel. - Finish: Soft and lightly sweet, with a subtle maritime character. Laphroaig 10 Year Old If Bunnahabhain represents Islay’s gentler side, Laphroaig 10 is almost the opposite. The combination of peat smoke, seaweed, and that famous medicinal character makes this whisky unapologetically bold. Laphroaig matures it for ten years in ex-bourbon casks. - Nose: Peat smoke, seaweed, medicinal notes, and a touch of sweetness. - Palate: Sweetness, salt, and layered peat smoke. - Finish: Long and persistent, with sweet seaweed and smoke. Port Charlotte 10 Year Old Port Charlotte is made at Bruichladdich and represents the distillery’s heavily peated side. The whisky clocks in at 40 ppm and matures for ten years on Islay. It’s aged in American whiskey barrels and French wine casks, delivering plenty of smoke alongside a surprisingly rich vein of sweetness and fruit. - Nose: Dry, earthy smoke, caramel, fudge, vanilla, ginger, nutmeg, and citrus. - Palate: Smoke, coconut, vanilla custard, lemon, honey, and saline notes. - Finish: Smoky and sweet with fudge, malt, orange, mango, and fruit. Bowmore 12 Year Old If you’re just getting into smoky whisky, there’s no need to reach straight for the heaviest hitter on Islay. Bowmore 12 Year Old marries gently earthy smoke with citrus, honey, and fruit. It’s matured in a mix of American ex-bourbon barrels and European Oloroso sherry casks. - Nose: Fresh lemon, heather honey, and soft, earthy smoke. - Palate: Warming fruit, sweetness, and dark chocolate. - Finish: Long, sweet smoke. Kilchoman Sanaig Kilchoman makes a second appearance in this roundup, though Sanaig is a very different beast from Rockside 11. This whisky blends bourbon and sherry casks, with Oloroso sherry taking the lead. The malt is peated to 50 ppm. Expect a fusion of dark fruit, chocolate, spice, and robust smoke. - Nose: Heather, raisins, pear, orange peel, stone fruit, spices, and peaty smoke. - Palate: Ripe plums, red cherries, citrus, barbecue smoke, toffee, oak, and dark chocolate. - Finish: Fruit, caramel, cinnamon, clove, brown sugar, and persistent peat smoke. Ardbeg Ten Years Old Alongside Uigeadail, Ardbeg Ten deserves a place here. Not because it’s a radical newcomer, but because it so clearly captures what Ardbeg stands for. Bottled at 46% ABV and matured in bourbon casks, it naturally leads with smoke—yet underneath you’ll find strikingly bright, fruity notes. - Nose: Smoky fruit, lemon, lime, menthol, tar, and briny sea air. - Palate: Firm peat, brine, buttermilk, and ripe banana. - Finish: Long and smoky with espresso and oily peat. Bruichladdich The Classic Laddie We wrap up without peat. With The Classic Laddie, Bruichladdich proves an Islay single malt doesn’t have to be smoky. Made from Scottish barley and bottled at 50% ABV, its exact recipe can vary by batch, but Bruichladdich consistently aims for a fruity, floral house style. - Nose: Ripe orchard fruit, flowers, lemon, orange, apricot, mango, peach, and vanilla. - Palate: Orange, candied citrus, stone fruit, malt, toasted bread, almond, and a touch of salt. - Finish: Mineral and floral with lingering stone fruit and citrus. What’s your favorite Islay whisky of 2026? Perhaps the most important takeaway from this list is how these ten bottles showcase the range found on that relatively small Scottish island. Islay may be world-famous for peat and smoke, but the story doesn’t end there. There’s so much more to discover. What’s your pick?

Highland 單一麥芽威士忌 anCnoc 在 8 月贊助愛丁堡音樂節「The Mound Village」與每週 Ceilidh 活動。品牌推出三款特調:使用 anCnoc 12 Year Old 的 Heather Honey Highball 與 Highland Remedy,以及採用 anCnoc 10 Year Old Peated Sherry Cask Finish 的 Old Fashioned。

For the latest in our series of columns with International Beverage, SLTN spoke to anCnoc senior brand manager Claire Arnott about the single malt’s Edinburgh Festival activations. During the month of August, Highland single malt anCnoc was one of the key sponsors of The Mound Village as well as the weekly Ceilidh on The Mound event. The partnership saw three anCnoc cocktails served at The Mound Village bar: Heather Honey Highball and Highland Remedy, both made with anCnoc 12 Year Old, and the anCnoc Old Fashioned, featuring anCnoc 10 Year Old Peated Sherry Cask Finish. What was the thinking behind getting anCnoc involved in The Mound Village and Ceilidh on the Mound? Claire Arnott, senior brand manager, anCnoc: “The Edinburgh Festivals represent one of the world’s largest cultural gatherings and attract a highly engaged, discovery-driven audience that closely aligns with the anCnoc consumer. “The Mound Village and Ceilidh on the Mound provided an opportunity to place anCnoc at the heart of a vibrant cultural moment, surrounded by people seeking new experiences, independent thinking and authentic Scottish stories. The partnership also allowed us to bring ‘The anCnoc Way’ to life in a meaningful way. “Like anCnoc, the Edinburgh Festivals celebrate creativity, individuality and doing things differently. Rather than simply sponsoring an event, we wanted to create opportunities for consumers to experience the brand through serves, conversation and sampling in an environment that feels true to our personality.” Why choose the 12 Year Old and Peated Sherry Cask Finish, specifically? Claire: “These two expressions showcase the breadth of anCnoc’s character while remaining highly approachable. anCnoc 12 Year Old is our signature whisky and the ideal introduction to the brand. It captures the fruity, honeyed and approachable style that anCnoc is known for and demonstrates that single malt can be complex without being intimidating. “anCnoc Peated Sherry Cask Finish highlights a different side of the distillery. It combines gentle Aberdeenshire peat smoke with rich sherry influence, delivering layers of smoke, spice, vanilla and orchard fruits. Together, the two expressions demonstrate the versatility of the range and allow consumers to discover different dimensions of anCnoc in a single experience. “The Heather Honey Highball amplifies the honey, citrus and orchard fruit character of anCnoc 12 whilst creating a long, refreshing serve ideal for warm weather drinking. The Highland Remedy introduces a bit of spice in an accessible way by balancing with ginger, lemon and honey. The Old Fashioned highlights the Peated Sherry Cask Finish’s combination of smoke, spice and sherry character in a lighter, more contemporary aperitivo-style serve. Each drink draws on flavour cues already present in the whisky, ensuring the liquid remains the hero.” Do you have an estimate of how many people you got the brand in front of during August? Claire: “While the Mound Village’s location just off Princes Street gave us the potential to be seen by well over one million people throughout August, success for anCnoc wasn’t simply about reach. Our focus was on meaningful engagement, introducing the brand to the right audience in the right environment through an authentic whisky experience. By encouraging people to discover, taste and learn about anCnoc in a dedicated whisky setting, we created stronger brand connections that are far more likely to drive future purchase and long-term brand affinity.” Heather Honey Highball • 50ml anCnoc 12 Year Old • 20ml honey simple syrup • 15ml fresh lemon juice • 120ml soda water Serve in a highball glass over plenty of ice, garnish with a lemon wedge.

瓶中珍寶:單一桶威士忌的永恆吸引力

Google News(Scotch/Distillery)|原題:The Bottle That Got Away: Inside the Enduring Appeal of Single Cask Whisky - thewhiskeywash.com

Every whisky drinker remembers the bottle they should have bought. Mine wasn’t the oldest whisky I’d ever come across, nor was it the most expensive. It wasn’t even especially famous. It was simply a bottle I convinced myself would still be there the following month. Naturally, when I went back, it had gone. Someone else had recognised what I’d missed. It’s a lesson every whisky enthusiast learns eventually. Some bottles come back. Single casks rarely do. Signup now to make sure you don't miss out on the latest whiskey news and deals. The Whiskey Wash is protected by reCAPTCHA, and the Google Privacy Policy and Terms of Service apply. That’s why they continue to fascinate me, both as a drinker and as someone fortunate enough to spend much of his working life selecting and bottling them. The appeal has very little to do with exclusivity for its own sake. It has everything to do with the knowledge that you’re tasting something genuinely unrepeatable. Scarcity Is Only The Beginning One assumption I hear surprisingly often is that a limited release must automatically be better than a whisky that’s available all year round. It isn’t. Some of the finest drams I’ve ever tasted have come from permanent ranges, while I’ve opened highly anticipated limited editions that left me wondering what all the fuss was about. Scarcity doesn’t create quality. It simply creates an opportunity for something exceptional to exist. The real question is what the distillery or bottler has done with that opportunity. Every Kirkland Bourbon Ranked, From Worst to Best READ THE STORYPerhaps it’s an unusual maturation that couldn’t realistically be repeated. Perhaps it’s the final cask from a closed warehouse, or a parcel of spirit that evolved in an unexpected direction. Those are the bottles worth paying attention to because they exist for a reason beyond marketing. Reputation Is Earned, Not Printed On The Label The whisky world has no shortage of bottles that have achieved almost mythical status. Springbank Local Barley is a perfect example. What began as a celebration of locally grown barley has become one of the most sought-after modern Scotch releases, with early bottlings commanding many times their original retail price. The same is true of Pappy Van Winkle. The whiskey itself is excellent, but its reputation has been amplified by years of extraordinary demand, lottery allocations and a secondary market that continues to push prices well beyond retail. Then there’s The Macallan Fine & Rare collection. These bottles haven’t become desirable simply because they’re old. They’ve become benchmarks because they capture individual vintages from one of Scotland’s defining distilleries, preserving moments in time that simply cannot be recreated. What’s interesting today is that collectors are becoming more discerning. Provenance matters more than ever. A compelling story, thoughtful production and exceptional liquid increasingly carry greater weight than a low bottle count alone. Simply printing “Limited Edition” on a label isn’t enough anymore. What One Cask Taught Me Working as an independent bottler has reinforced that lesson countless times. One cask in particular has stayed with me. It was an Invergordon that eventually became one of our Japan-exclusive releases. On paper there was very little to suggest it would become anything remarkable. The age was familiar, the cask type wasn’t unusual and there was nothing in the warehouse records to indicate it would behave differently from the surrounding barrels. Then we sampled it. Immediately there were notes of caramelised pineapple, soft tobacco, rich vanilla and an almost savoury depth that simply shouldn’t have been there. We tasted neighbouring casks expecting something broadly similar. They weren’t even close. That experience reminded me that whisky doesn’t mature according to spreadsheets. Two casks can be filled on the same day, stored side by side for decades and emerge with completely different personalities. Tiny differences in the wood, airflow, humidity and evaporation gradually shape each barrel into something unique. That’s what fascinates me about single cask whisky. Not the rarity, or the individuality. It’s About More Than The Fear of Missing Out People often talk about FOMO whenever limited whisky is discussed, and there is certainly some truth in that. Nobody enjoys missing out on something genuinely special. But I don’t think that’s what drives most enthusiasts. What draws me to a single cask is knowing that once those bottles have been opened, that exact whisky disappears forever. There isn’t another batch waiting in the warehouse. There isn’t a replacement arriving next year. That particular combination of spirit, oak and time has reached its natural conclusion. Interestingly, scarcity often changes the way people drink. Bottles become centrepieces for birthdays, anniversaries and evenings with close friends. Conversations last longer because everyone understands they’re sharing something that won’t exist again. Some of my favourite whisky memories have come from finishing bottles rather than opening them. The Whisky Always Comes First Presentation has undoubtedly become more sophisticated over the last decade. Beautiful labels, handcrafted presentation boxes and bespoke decanters all help tell the story of a release. I appreciate thoughtful design as much as anyone, particularly because packaging forms such an important part of my day-to-day work. But packaging should never become the reason for buying the bottle. Collectors may admire the box, but drinkers remember the whisky. The bottles that stay with me years later aren’t necessarily the rarest or the most valuable. They’re the ones that revealed a distillery from a different perspective, challenged expectations or sparked conversations that carried on long after the final dram had disappeared. What We’re Really Collecting I’ve never believed people chase single casks because they’re rare. They chase them because they’re original. Every now and then a cask develops a personality so distinctive that it deserves to stand on its own rather than disappear into a larger blend. Those whiskies remind us that despite all the science, planning and precision involved in making whisky, there’s still an element of unpredictability that no spreadsheet or warehouse plan can ever fully explain. It’s also why, at GreatDrams, we’ve never been interested in releasing a cask simply because it’s old or because the bottle count is low. Every whisky has to earn its place. If the liquid doesn’t make us stop, pour another glass and immediately start discussing who else needs to taste it, it simply doesn’t get bottled. Scarcity might persuade someone to buy a bottle once, but only exceptional whisky persuades them to come back for the next release. That’s the magic of single cask whisky. You’re not simply buying one bottle out of a few hundred. You’re buying the only version of that whisky that will ever exist. And if you ask me, that’s a far more compelling reason to open it than to leave it gathering dust on a shelf.

The Glasgow Distillery has bottled its first age-stated peated single malt, the Glasgow 1770 10 Year Old Peated, to mark ten years of peated production in the city. It is drawn from three gently matured ex-bourbon casks, two refill and one first fill, bottled at 54% ABV, non-chill filtered and natural in colour. The official notes point to roasted pineapple, soft smoke, gentle vanilla, waxy lemon and dried orange peel. Only 550 bottles were filled at £69, released on 18 September 2026 to Glasgow Distillery Community Members first, with select UK retailers plus Germany and Finland to follow later this year. The news: Glasgow’s first age-stated peated 1770 Ten years after the distillery first ran peated spirit, Glasgow has finally put an age statement on it. The Glasgow 1770 10 Year Old Peated is the inaugural age-stated release in the peated 1770 line, and the first whisky to come from those original 2016 peated runs. The build is deliberately restrained. Rather than reaching for a wine finish, the distillery kept the maturation to ex-bourbon wood so the decade in cask and the peated spirit itself do the talking. The key facts up front: 54% ABV, three ex-bourbon casks (two refill, one first fill), natural colour, non-chill filtered, 550 bottles, £69, presented in a gift carton. Why this release matters Glasgow’s peated whisky started as an experiment in 2016, a year after the core unpeated 1770 programme was laid down in 2015. It has since grown into a fixture of the distillery, now taking up around five months of production every year. This 10 Year Old is the moment that experiment gets its first double-digit age statement. There is also a value story here. An age-stated, limited, natural-colour, non-chill-filtered single malt at £69 is a fair ask in 2026, particularly for a peated Lowland malt with a decade behind it. Sebastian Bunford-Jones, the distillery’s head of sales and marketing, framed the ten-year mark as a genuine milestone and called it “a small release, but an important one for the distillery.” Who are The Glasgow Distillery? The Glasgow Distillery was established in 2012 and laid its first cask in 2015, reviving single malt distilling in a city long associated with whisky. It sits on Deanside Road in the Lowlands and bottles its single malt under the 1770 name, alongside Makar gin and other spirits. Peated production followed in 2016 and has become central to what the distillery does. The peated 1770 range, including the well-liked peated PX expression, has built a loyal following, which is part of why a peated 10 Year Old feels like the natural way to mark the anniversary. Glasgow 1770 10 Year Old Peated: tasting notes These are the distillery’s official notes. We have not tasted this bottling yet, and will update the piece once we have a glass in hand. Nose: soft smoke, roasted pineapple, tropical fruit Palate: gentle vanilla, waxy lemon, honeyed sweetness, a waxy texture Finish: dried orange peel, lingering oak spice ABV: 54% | Casks: three ex-bourbon (two refill, one first fill) | Price: £69 Price and availability The Glasgow 1770 10 Year Old Peated carries an RRP of £69 for a 550-bottle outturn. It went live at 10am on 18 September 2026, first to members of the free Glasgow Distillery Community, limited to one bottle per person. Select UK retailers hold limited stock too, and the distillery has said Germany and Finland will get an allocation later in the year. With only 550 bottles in total, it is not a release to sit on. Our take If you already get on with Glasgow’s peated style, this is the one to prioritise: a first age-stated peated 1770, kept honest with ex-bourbon wood so you can actually read the spirit. At £69 for an age-stated, non-chill-filtered, natural-colour single malt limited to 550 bottles, the pricing is sensible rather than speculative. It is aimed at drinkers who like their peat balanced with tropical fruit and vanilla rather than heavy coastal brine, and at anyone building out a Lowland shelf. If you want a wine-cask fireworks display, this deliberately is not that. We will post full tasting notes once we have tried it. Frequently asked questions What is the Glasgow 1770 10 Year Old Peated? It is The Glasgow Distillery’s first age-stated peated single malt, released in September 2026 to mark a decade of peated production. It is bottled at 54% ABV from three ex-bourbon casks, natural in colour and non-chill filtered, limited to 550 bottles. What does the Glasgow 1770 10 Year Old Peated taste like? The distillery’s official notes describe soft smoke alongside roasted pineapple and tropical fruit, moving into gentle vanilla, waxy lemon and a honeyed, waxy texture, with dried orange peel and lingering oak spice on the finish. It reads as a balanced, fruit-led peated style rather than a heavy, briny one. How much does the Glasgow 1770 10 Year Old Peated cost? The recommended retail price is £69 for a 70cl bottle, presented in a gift carton. That is a competitive price for an age-stated, limited, non-chill-filtered single malt bottled at 54% ABV with natural colour. Where can I buy the Glasgow 1770 10 Year Old Peated? It went on sale on 18 September 2026, first to members of the free Glasgow Distillery Community via the distillery website, limited to one bottle per person. Select UK retailers also carry limited stock, and Germany and Finland are due an allocation later in the year. What casks is it matured in? Three ex-bourbon casks: two refill ex-bourbon barrels and one first-fill ex-bourbon barrel. The distillery chose ex-bourbon maturation to keep the profile spirit-forward and let the peated character and ten years in wood come through. Why is this release significant for The Glasgow Distillery? Peated production began at the distillery in 2016, and this 10 Year Old is the first whisky drawn from those original runs. It is the debut age statement for the peated 1770 range, marking ten years of a peated programme that now fills about five months of the distillery’s year. Leave a Reply

Google News(Whisky 綜合)|原題:A night of whiskey, gin and fizz at swish Co Derry hotel - The Irish News

Dia daoibh, wine-lovers- sure, isn’t it great to have two nicknames? That’s how you know that you’ve really made it. Like Muhammad Ali- firstly, the Louisville Lip; ultimately, The Greatest. My nickname at my lovely home, Rose Cottage, is The General. How grand and authoritative! Alas, it’s short for General Dogsbody which is what I’ve been since my darling wife, the redoubtable Madame G., broke her wrist at the Fleadh. Since then, The General has assumed command of all domestic chores. I’m not suspicious but her wrist does seem to be healing very slowly… When I leave Rose Cottage, I’m somewhat disparagingly referred to as The Swan- always swanning around glitzy affairs, drinkin’ and atein’ for free. My latest sortie took me to the Roe Valley Resort to the opening of a new bar- The Leaping Hound- in the company of MLAs, industry tycoons, media types and youthful influencers- an honest bunch having savage craic- limitless food, drink and entertainment in beautiful surroundings for FREE!!! On which note, I should add that the Leaping Hound haven’t paid me a penny to sample their wares and say nice things about them. I’m delighted to ate and drink as much as they’ll give me for FREE!!! In fairness, the resort provides excellent employment in the area, offers superb family-friendly recreation and supports talented local producers such as the people behind today’s first recommendation, Limavady Single Malt Whiskey (widely available in Limavady area, also through independent wine shops and off-licences throughout the North such as The Vineyard, Belfast or Fairley’s, Coleraine, about £40 to £45). Aged in oak barrels and finished in sherry casks, tasted neat it has a wonderfully smooth mouthfeel with pronounced spicy, gingery notes alongside tropical flavours before a distinct hint of malt in a crisp finish. I felt sceptical when I saw it being mixed with fizzy pineapple juice but had to concede that when the whiskey heat met the pineapple sweet, sure it cudnae be beat. No such misgivings about a gloriously refreshing, zesty gin and elderflower spritz featuring Galgorm Gin (visit shop.galgorm.com, £45). Made by the Copeland Distillery using botanicals harvested from the Galgorm Estate, there’s a massive hit of juniper in its vibrant attack before subtle backnotes of coriander and lime add depth of flavour. As for the food- superb nibbles featuring local cured ham, smoked salmon, gourmet sausage rolls and delectable melt-in-mouth new Comber potatoes; also, a satisfying beef mince stew and a cabbage and bacon steachaí which was a bit, to use the technical term, meh. Top notch music though. Aged in oak barrels and finished in sherry casks, tasted neat it has a wonderfully smooth mouthfeel with pronounced spicy, gingery notes alongside tropical flavours — Raymond Gleug Like Cinderella, The Swan returned home just before midnight to resume The General’s duties, chief of which was saying farewell to his beloved god-daughter, Maria. As you read this, she’ll be settling in to university life on the bigger island. We toasted her departure with the deliciously dry, delicate and ferociously crisp Vigneron’s Wife Cremant (Naked Wines, £19.99 or £16.99 for members, aka Angels)- sharp citrus and green apple flavours perfectly complemented by hints of almond. Slán, beannacht agus beir bua, Maria. And until next week, everyone else, sláinte!

爆米花:威士忌的最佳搭檔鹹食

Google News(Whisky 綜合)|原題:The Salty Snack To Pair With Your Next Glass Of Whiskey - Mashed

Jolly Time、Newman's Own等優質爆米花品牌。

The Salty Snack To Pair With Your Next Glass Of Whiskey Bar snacks have come a long way since the days of stale pretzels and corn nuts. In fact, many bars trade likely suspects such as mozzarella sticks and peanuts for oysters and shrimp cocktails nowadays. But if we're talking whiskey, the ultimate salty snack pairing is actually quite old-timey and modest: popcorn. Popcorn with a bit of salt or butter can amplify whiskey's subtleties. Bourbon specifically is always made with a minimum of 51% corn, making it an even better popcorn mate. Corn has a starchy, sweet natural flavor, which plays off of whiskey's usual hints of oak, vanilla, and butterscotch. If the popcorn has a buttery flavoring, it'll coat the tongue between sips, while the whiskey's potency will cut through the snack's fattiness. Of course, popcorn's crisp, airy texture and salt will keep you steadily returning to your drink. Several cocktails exemplify this pairing's validity. Take the Popcorn Old Fashioned at Razzle Dazzle, a restaurant on a Virgin Voyages cruise ship (though several bars in cities like London offer similar drinks), complete with a popcorn bucket and kettle corn garnish. There's also the Cracker Jack at New York's Lost at Sea, made with brown butter-washed bourbon, popcorn, and amaretto mist. To take it a step further, some bartenders even infuse whiskey and other spirits with popcorn for the most uncanny flavor. How to pair popcorn and whiskey By now, you likely have a detailed mental list of the best popcorn flavors (which we've also ranked). But for the sake of whiskey pairings, let's talk buttered and salted popcorn specifically. For microwave-popcorn stans, experts recommend Jolly Time, Newman's Own, Kirkland Signature from Costco, and Pop Secret. For kernels, Bob's Red Mill and Orville Redenbacher's are popular choices. Whether you make popcorn on the microwave or stovetop, it's a pairing you may just come to lean on. It may be worth having your favorite popcorn with bourbon specifically — it's richer in corn than non-bourbon whiskey, which can be distilled from a slew of cereal grains, like rye and barley. That makes bourbon an even more on-the-nose match for this snack. Popular bourbon options include Buffalo Trace, Maker's Mark, Knob Creek, and Woodford Reserve, while Jameson and Jack Daniel's are great non-bourbon whiskeys for the job. Flavored popcorn can pair with whiskey, but not always. Determine if its taste would match with your spirit of choice. For instance, our simple peanut butter popcorn recipe, tossed with peanuts for good measure, offers savory, nutty, and sweet notes. Whiskey's oaky, vanilla-like flavors are an easy match. Caramel popcorn is a no-brainer as well. Popcorns with acidic, creamy, or bold and spicy flavors likely wouldn't pair as seamlessly, so stay away from varieties like chili lime and cacio e pepe.
