🔥 美國威士忌業者盼貿易協議重返加拿大市場

Google News(Whisky 綜合)|原題:Whiskey reps hope trade deal helps gets American alcohol back in Canadian stores - Spectrum News

WASHINGTON — Just under two hours before steep tariffs on Canadian goods were set to take effect Wednesday, President Donald Trump announced a three-day pause to allow for the finalization of a deal. “As you know, the 50% tariffs across the board were going on against Canada today, and they called yesterday and they gave us the points that we had to have,” Trump said Wednesday. “Very fair deal for both.” It’s not clear what the deal includes. One of the sticking points for the White House has been that all but two Canadian provinces stopped selling American alcohol products last year. The move was retaliation for President Trump’s tariffs on imports of Canadian products including steel and aluminum. “We hope that both parties use three days to come to an agreement, and that agreement includes American whiskey's ability to access the Canadian market,” said Michael Bilello, president and CEO of the American Whiskey Association. “More importantly, we hope that the provinces agree and align with the federal government and allow American whiskey to access the shelves. That means getting back on the shelves.” U.S. liquor exports to Canada dropped 70%, from $203 million from March to December 2024 to $60 million during the same time period in 2025, after Canadian provinces pulled American spirits from shelves, according to the Distilled Spirits Council of the U.S. According to recent polling done by Nanos for CTV News, 74% of Canadians said they are not likely to buy American alcohol products if they are put back on the shelves. “I think that there's a lot of politicians in Canada who have taken, I think, pretty good advantage of the opportunity to fire up their base, so there's no doubt a lot of anti-American sentiment up there,” Bilello said. “At the end of the day, this is about American whiskey. We didn't ask to be included or involved in these trade discussions, and we just want to connect with our consumer.” Cal Bricker, president and CEO of Spirits Canada, told Spectrum News in a statement Wednesday: “We remain optimistic that we can get the issues resolved and get back to the free trade environment that existed previously. Our goal is precisely the same as our U.S. colleagues. Free and fair trade in the sector.”

🔥 蘇格蘭威士忌在印度市場迎來新機遇 英印自貿協定啟動關稅大幅下降

Google News(Scotch/Distillery)|原題:Scotch whisky gets a fresh shot at India - BizzBuzz

Scotch whisky gets a fresh shot at India Duty cuts are expected to improve price competitiveness and accelerate premium whisky sales Scotch whisky bottles on display Single malts and premium blends are expected to see the strongest growth as affordability improves. Younger affluent consumers are likely to trade up from Indian premium whiskies to imported Scotch. Investment in India Scottish distillers are expected to: expand distribution, increase marketing, launch more premium expressions, strengthen partnerships with Indian importers and distributors. Scotland and India’s trading partnership could be worth more than £3 billion a year by 2030 – up by more than a half on current levels - according to a new report. Following the implementation of the UK-India Free Trade Agreement (FTA) on July 15, 2026, Scotland is gearing up for an estimated £190 million long-term economic boost. Key sectors like Scotch whisky and Scottish salmon are actively preparing to expand, working alongside organizations like Scottish Development International and the Scottish Chambers of Commerce to maximize new export avenues into India. Producers are targeting a larger share of the Indian market as federal import tariffs drop immediately from 150% to 75% (with plans to reach 40% over 10 years), though firms are carefully navigating complex state-level excise rules. Import duty on Scotch whisky in India has been reduced from 150% to 75% immediately. This will result in Better price competitiveness. Premium brands such as: Macallan; Glenfiddich; Glenlivet; Johnnie Walker; Monkey Shoulder; Chivas Regal; Ballantine's and Famous Grouse will become more price-competitive against premium Indian whiskies. Single malts and premium blends are expected to see the strongest growth as affordability improves. Younger affluent consumers are likely to trade up from Indian premium whiskies to imported Scotch. Investment in India Scottish distillers are expected to: expand distribution, increase marketing, launch more premium expressions, strengthen partnerships with Indian importers and distributors. Although customs duty has been cut sharply, the retail price (MRP) also includes: State excise duties (May increase); VAT and local taxes (May increase); Distributor margins; Retail margins; Logistics; and Label registration costs (May increase). As a result, consumers may see only moderate reductions in MRP, varying by state, rather than a full pass-through of the tariff cut. Impact on Indian liquor companies: Imported Scotch brands will become more competitive; Indian premium whisky producers will face stronger competition. Companies importing bulk Scotch for blending or bottling in India may benefit substantially. This FTA is likely to create new opportunities in premium Scotch sales, route-to-market expansion, duty-free, and luxury portfolio management as Scottish producers increase their focus on India. The tariff will be phased down to 40% over the next 10 years, making India a much more attractive market for Scotch exports. Tariff reductions create immediate advantages for whisky. For Scottish businesses. The practical question is therefore not whether to enter India, but where to enter, with which offer and through which partner. Export-led models will suit premium products. India represents one of the most dynamic and exciting economies in the world. It has the highest growth rate in the G20, which is expected to remain above 6% over at least the next 5 years.[footnote 5] It has recently risen to become the fifth largest economy in the world and is expected to grow to the third largest by 2028. All this growth presents significant opportunity for UK businesses. As India grows, so will the number of consumers looking to purchase high-quality UK goods and services. By 2030, India’s middle class will number an estimated 60 million and rising, potentially reaching a quarter of a billion by 2050. India’s overall demand for imports is projected to grow by 144% in real terms between 2021 and 2035, reaching £1.4 trillion. However, there have been significant challenges for UK businesses seeking to access this growing market. India has the highest average tariffs of any G20 economy, with some products facing duties above 100%. It is ranked as the eighth most restrictive services market by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and has an uncertain regulatory environment. Risk and cost have historically hindered UK companies looking to move or expand into India. Despite these challenging conditions, UK businesses have high ambitions for the future of trade with India. Grant Thornton’s recent International Business Report indicated that 42% of UK businesses surveyed without an existing presence in India plan to build one in the next 2 years. Of those with an existing presence, 96% plan to expand further. This deal supports those efforts – with 72% of UK businesses surveyed saying that an FTA would encourage them to explore opportunities in the Indian market. Greater ties and access to India present significant opportunities. In addition, India is already the second most sought after manufacturing destination in the world due to economic growth, low costs, and a large labour market. As a result, it is estimated manufacturing will account for 21% of India’s GDP by 2031. The FTA between the world's fifth and sixth largest economies removes or reduces tariffs on 99% of Indian exports to the UK and 90% of UK imports into India.

Bowmore Releases 20-Year-Old Captivo Single Malt Collection with Visionary Design Practice Snarkitecture Bowmore Releases 20-Year-Old Captivo Single Malt Collection with Visionary Design Practice Snarkitecture The union of two worlds offers a journey of exploration, discovery and a portal into the extraordinary Islay, Scotland, 19th August 2026 - Bowmore, Islay’s oldest licensed distillery, and internationally acclaimed design studio, Snarkitecture, have announced the release of the limited-edition Bowmore Captivo Collection. The collaboration brings together two disciplines united by craftsmanship, creativity and the pursuit of discovery. Just as Bowmore's whiskies reveal layers of flavour with every sip, Snarkitecture's work encourages people to look deeper and experience the unexpected. The Captivo Collection comprises two 20-year-old single malts – Bowmore Captivo Sherry Cask Pursuit and Bowmore Captivo Oak Voyage. Each has a story of provenance and exploration, brought to life through the drinking experience and the vivid bottle and packaging designs. Travelling from New York to Islay, Snarkitecture co-founder Alex Mustonen drew inspiration from the island's natural landscape and the hidden depths of the distillery, including Bowmore No.1 Vaults, one of the world's oldest maturation warehouses. Mustonen translated these influences into striking portal designs reflecting a journey of discovery, and a cultural fascination with stepping beyond the surface. The whiskies mirror this, with each expression offering a portal into Bowmore, created decades ago and experienced in the present. Mustonen says: “Stepping into the world of whisky is a first for Snarkitecture. I drew similarities between how Bowmore’s whisky is made, and how I approach an architectural environment. In architecture, spaces and objects invite people to look again and question their assumptions. I discovered whisky-making shares a similar philosophy, rewarding time, patience, and curiosity.” He continues: “I think about my projects as moments for people to cross thresholds into spaces that feel unlike day-to-day experiences. I approached the Captivo creative in a similar way, with the artwork acting as a portal into the world of Bowmore; into something extraordinary.” Each whisky is represented by its own portal to reflect its individual character. Bowmore Captivo Oak Voyage showcases the influence that time and purposefully selected oak casks have on Bowmore’s spirit, and the journey the whisky undertakes to develop its flavours locked within the wood. This expression has maturated for two decades in American oak ex-Bourbon casks and finally aged in American oak Oloroso sherry butts, to optimise richness and complexity. The whisky opens with notes of dark cherry, candied orange, and Manuka honey, complemented by an unexpected touch of cool eucalyptus and toasted oak, and finishing with smooth vanilla sweetness and a delicate whisper of campfire smoke. Bowmore Captivo Sherry Cask Pursuit, which is a global travel retail exclusive, offers new dimensions of flavour with the influence of Spain, evoking the sense of adventure to bodegas and back to Islay. This expression has matured in Spanish oak Oloroso sherry and American oak ex-bourbon casks, with an Oloroso sherry hogshead finish, providing tropical fruit and cracked black pepper notes, balanced by soft oak and smoked toffee, with a lingering finish of sweet peat smoke and a touch of charred mango. Dr Calum Fraser, master blender, Scotch and Irish at Suntory Global Spirits, says: “These beautifully aged whiskies are intentionally designed to reward exploration and reveal layers of flavour over time. While Bowmore's signature style remains at their heart, balancing citrus, sweetness, and delicate smoky notes, each expression showcases the influence of different oak casks in a distinct way. “The richness of Oak Voyage and the smooth sweetness of Sherry Cask Pursuit demonstrate the remarkable impact of time and cask selection. Snarkitecture has captured that sense of discovery brilliantly, creating designs that express the individuality of each whisky, while remaining true to Bowmore's heritage." The Bowmore Captivo Collection Oak Voyage (50.8% ABV) is priced at $360 USD / £312 GBP / 360 EUROS RSP*. Bowmore Captivo Collection Sherry Cask Pursuit (51.8% ABV) is $380 USD / £320 GBP RSP. Both are available from today on Bowmore.com (ROW) / Bowmore.com (UK). Oak Voyage will be available in Harrods in the UK from 1st September, followed by the US, Asia, Northern Europe and Canada, with Sherry Cask Pursuit available in select global travel retail later this year. Home » Kaldewei Elevates the Guest Experience at Ardbeg House, Islay’s New Whisky-Inspired Boutique Hotel Opened in autumn 2025, Ardbeg House on the Isle of Islay is one of Scotland’s most distinctive new hospitality destinations. Following a multi-million-pound refurbishment in collaboration with Russell Sage Studio, the former Islay Hotel has been transformed into a 12-room boutique hotel that celebrates the island’s culture, landscape and the heritage of the Ardbeg Distillery. Kaldewei contributed to the project by supplying baths and shower trays for the guest bathrooms. Selected for their architectural design, durability and sustainability, Kaldewei products support the hotel’s ambition to combine exceptional guest experiences with long-term environmental responsibility. Ardbeg House is inspired by Islay’s folklore, dramatic coastline and the 200-year history of Ardbeg Distillery. Together with more than 20 Scottish artisans, the design team created 12 individually themed guest rooms, each telling a unique story drawn from local legends, smugglers, raiders, sea creatures and the mythical “Islay-gator.” Throughout the hotel, bespoke design elements celebrate the island’s identity. Guests are welcomed by a striking ‘A’ for Ardbeg forged from a retired whisky still, while a custom boat-shaped chandelier made from green Ardbeg bottles hangs above the Islay Bar. Natural textures and materials reference Islay’s rugged landscape, creating a rich and immersive atmosphere that continues into the bathrooms. Ardbeg House required bathroom solutions that could meet the demands of a luxury boutique hotel while supporting varying room concepts and sustainability objectives. Kaldewei’s steel enamel baths and shower trays were specified for their clean architectural lines, glass-smooth surfaces, exceptional durability and easy maintenance. Their resistance to scratches, impacts and thermal shock makes them particularly suited to hospitality environments, while their fully recyclable material aligns with the project’s environmental goals. Installed within elegant marble-clad bathrooms, Kaldewei products complement the storytelling approach of the interiors. Warm grey and matt black finishes were chosen to integrate seamlessly into the individual design themes of each room. “Being part of the Ardbeg House project is a genuine privilege for Kaldewei. Ardbeg House sets a new benchmark for experiential hospitality, and we’re proud that Kaldewei plays a role in shaping the guest journey,” says Adam Teal, Country Manager Kaldewei. The bathrooms extend the narrative of each bedroom, offering guests a place to unwind after exploring Islay’s beaches, historic sites and the Ardbeg Distillery. Kaldewei’s sculptural baths and spacious shower areas create a luxurious retreat that balances immersion, comfort and relaxation. Ardbeg House is set to become a flagship destination for whisky enthusiasts and curious travellers alike. Every stay includes an Ardbeg Distillery tour, a nightly “Whisky Hour,” access to exclusive bottlings and dining experiences that showcase modern Scottish cuisine. Ardbeg House demonstrates how thoughtful bathroom design can enhance an immersive hospitality concept. By combining expressive interiors with durable, precisely engineered bathroom solutions, the project highlights Kaldewei’s ability to support ambitious, design-led environments while contributing to an exceptional guest experience. KALDEWEI offers luxurious bathroom solutions of superior quality and timelessly elegant design. Bathtubs, shower surfaces and washbasins are made from sustainable steel enamel.

Maker’s Mark Uncorks Its Oldest Whiskey Blend Yet With ‘Cellar Aged’ 2026 Release The fourth bottle in the series blends 11-year, 12-year and 14-year-old bourbons aged in a custom limestone cellar. When Maker’s Mark made the decision to carve out space on its historic grounds for a limestone cellar, it was gambling on a future finishing process, not to mention the quality of its whiskey. Consider that experiment a success, as the legendary Kentucky distillery debuts another innovative Maker’s Mark Cellar Aged expression. The inaugural edition of Maker’s Mark Cellar Aged made its debut in 2023 and served as a benchmark for future editions, using 11-year and 12-year-old bourbon in its oldest whiskey released at the time. The 2026 expression goes even deeper into the distillery’s impressive whiskey stores (or “whisky,” as Maker’s Mark likes to spell it), using bourbon as old as 14 years in addition to 11 and 12-year-old whiskies. “Cellar Aged represents our pursuit of flavor through patience, precision and a deep understanding of how bourbon evolves over time,” said Dr. Blake Layfield, master distiller for Maker’s Mark. Layton led a group of journalists through a recent virtual tasting of the new expression, calling out the famous Maker’s Mark emphasis on flavor rather than age: Whatever works, rather than how old the distillate is, makes up the final blend. “The question that has really shaped innovation at Maker’s Mark has been a pretty simple one: How do you innovate on an icon like Maker’s Mark without losing what made it iconic?” Layfield said during the tasting. The use of the limestone cellar offers further proof that the finishing experiment resulted in nuanced yet flavorful whiskey. Last year’s Cellar Aged release, as Maxim learned during a visit to the property, leaned on a blend of 74% 11-year-old liquid, 10% 13-year-old distillate and 16% 14-year-old bourbon, while the 2026 cask-strength 112.1-proof edition is made up of 49% 11-year-old, 33% 12-year-old and 18% 14-year-old bourbons. “Cellar Aged has just incredible depth and complexity, but it’s remarkably smooth and approachable despite that high proof and the higher age,” Layfield said while tasting the latest Maker’s Mark expression. The final product is a whiskey that drinks far easier its proof, with delicate honeyed sweetness and a softer wheat finish on the palate, rounded out by dark fruit notes and an almost graham cracker-like quality. With sumptuous mouthfeel and the distillery’s famed rich copper-amber color, it’s yet another signature release to the portfolio of the nearly 75-year-old distillery. Maker’s Mark certainly has no plans to alter the trajectory of the fan-favorite Cellar Aged expression, Layfield said. “We’re looking for whiskeys that have character, that have complexity, but have that balance, that harmony,” he said. “And that’s how I think about innovation at Maker’s Mark.” Taking advantage of both the historic natural beauty of the area and the utility of the land itself remains deeply intertwined with modern-day whiskey making, said Rob Samuels, Maker’s Mark managing director and eighth-generation whisky maker. “The limestone shelf that surrounds Star Hill Farm has shaped our bourbon from the very beginning, thanks to the innovative spirit of my grandparents, Margie and Bill Samuels Sr., who chose this land in 1953 for its exceptional water source and natural watershed,” Samuels said. Maker’s Mark calls its process one that’s “aged to taste, not time,” as difficult as it can be at times to capture the flavor of a higher age-statement bourbon. It remains to be seen whether this edition of Maker’s Mark Cellar Aged will continue its run as one of the year’s best bourbons, but for now, Maker’s Mark Cellar Aged 2026 will be available for an SRP of $175 starting September 1st at select nationwide retailers.

Koopers Whiskey blending house is introducing its limited release, Koopers Whiskey Texas Oak Bourbon, a first-of-its-kind expression for the brand, finished in Texas-grown white oak barrels. A limited number of 360 bottles of 8-year-old Koopers Whiskey Texas Oak Bourbon will be available for purchase online beginning at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 22, and at the Koopers Whiskey tasting room. LEDBETTER, Texas, Aug. 19, 2026 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Koopers Whiskey blending house is introducing its limited release, Koopers Whiskey Texas Oak Bourbon, a first-of-its-kind expression for the brand, finished in Texas-grown white oak barrels. A limited number of 360 bottles of 8-year-old Koopers Whiskey Texas Oak Bourbon will be available for purchase online beginning at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 22, and at the Koopers Whiskey tasting room. Koopers Whiskey Texas Oak Bourbon is a bold, barrel-proof, 8-year-old Straight Bourbon Whiskey that proudly reflects its Texas roots. While the bourbon begins its journey in traditional charred American white oak barrels, its defining character emerges through a second maturation in toasted Texas-grown white oak, where local craftsmanship and the dramatic Texas climate combine to create a richer, more expressive whiskey. The Texas-grown white oak finishing barrels were produced by Standard Cooperage in Blanco, Texas, the state's first cooperage. The partnership gives Koopers Whiskey an opportunity to explore not only how the distinctive Texas climate shapes whiskey, but also how the influence of oak grown in Texas and coopered in Texas can contribute to its character. "Texas Oak Bourbon was conceived as a showcase for oak, not as an afterthought to the whiskey," said Master Blender Troy Kooper. "We selected barrels of mature 8-year-old bourbon with a strong sense of identity, including a solid core of sweetness, structure, and grain character that we wanted. We transferred the bourbon into toasted Texas-grown white oak casks to amplify what was already working and to add a distinctly local voice. Our goal was finding the point where the traditional American oak and Texas-grown oak complement rather than compete with each other. The final blend is expressive but not overwhelming, assertive without becoming harsh, and unmistakably shaped by the place where it was finished. The toasted Texas oak casks enhance the whiskey with rich aromatics, additional cinnamon spice, pecan, and a more layered, textural finish. Bottled at its natural barrel proof of 114.8, the whiskey retains its full intensity while showcasing the balance between traditional American oak and the unmistakable influence of Texas-grown wood. Greeting the nose, Koopers' Texas Oak Bourbon opens with aromas of toasted caramel, Texas pecan, maple syrup, orange peel, and dark cherry. On the palate, flavors reminiscent of baked apple and stone fruit are layered with maple syrup, cinnamon, and brown sugar. The finish is long and warming, with waves of cinnamon, toasted oak, oaky honey, and crème brûlée. Matured 14 years in American white oak ex-Bourbon barrels before just shy of two years in Semisecco Marsala casks, Sicilian fortified wine brings candied citrus, honeyed fruit and gentle spice to The Dalmore's signature house style. Sourced entirely from the distillery's dunnage warehouses and bottled at 53 per cent ABV, sippers can expect toffee, brioche, and walnut through to a finish of sweet citrus and rich oak, making this year's selection a coveted dram for any enthusiast. The Dalmore Distillery Select 2026 £350Patricks - AL1 Anti Lag Tablets Some people swear by old jet lag hacks; no booze before take-off, setting your watch to your landing city's time etc. but none of it prevents the post-landing slump that so often puts a dampener on the end of a good trip. Patricks' AL1 takes a more systematic approach: AM capsules built around Bacopa Monnieri and Panax Ginseng for clean energy and focus, PM capsules with ashwagandha and passionflower for proper recovery sleep. The ideal travel companion to stave off the end-of-summer lethargy. Patricks AL1 Anti Lag Tablets £30Swaine - President Attaché Case While we're not taking a swipe at the practicality of a sturdy rucksack, it'll never carry the prestige or presence of a handcrafted leather attaché case. Swaine's President makes this case emphatically and has been hand-built by a single artisan in its London workshop in a process of over 250 meticulous steps. The result? This stylish calf leather piece housing two large compartments, a zipped central divider, and an alcantara-lined interior, secured with a proper lock and key. Swaine President Attaché Case £2,900Beaufort & Blake - The Ferry Inn Salcombe Cap A tip of the cap to one of Salcombe's finest, The Ferry Inn has lent its name and spirit to this Beaufort & Blake collaboration. Crafted from 100 per cent cotton twill with a matching cotton inside trim, it's finished with an exclusive embroidered badge and an adjustable back strap with brass fastening for a proper fit. A relaxed nod to a very special corner of Devon, and an outstanding IYKYK accessory. Beaufort & Blake The Ferry Inn Salcombe Cap £32Vapoura Rum - Chapter 1 Spiced Rum Vapoura's co-founders always believed rum belonged to the moments after the moment, so it makes sense they've created their own soundtrack for these occasions. The After Stories Vol. 1 sees Manchester producer CARALUS and London's Daniel Sehnawi translate six spaces inside Fitzrovia's Mandrake Hotel into a six-track vinyl EP, pressed at The Vinyl Factory, with a bespoke cocktail menu running across the hotel's bars this summer to match. Vapoura's Chapter 1 anchors it all: small-batch English spiced rum layering blood orange, nutmeg, and ginger over a warm cardamom base. Vapoura Rum Chapter 1 Spiced Rum £45Czech & Speake - Amber 7 Eau de Parfum It's said that amber fragrances trace back over 4,000 years to Middle Eastern perfumery traditions, and Czech & Speake's take arrives after seven formulations of careful refinement. Curraghmore unveils single cask line and pot still whiskey County Waterford’s Curraghmore Whiskey has unveiled a Triple Cask Pot Still expression and a collection of single cask bottlings. Curraghmore Whiskey 2026 Triple Cask is made with oats and barley grown on its namesake estate, triple distilled and aged in a combination of new oak, ex-Bourbon barrels and oloroso Sherry casks. The latest annual release from Curraghmore will be available from the brand’s online store and specialist retailers in the UK and Ireland from 1 September at an RRP of €209.00 (US$245), limited to 4,600 700ml bottles at 46% ABV. Tasting notes for the whiskey mention notes of coffee, mango, pineapple and cinnamon. The new release will make its debut alongside the inaugural expression in the Annamh Collection, the Curraghmore Virgin French Oak Single Cask. Two versions of the limited edition bottling will be available, one at 46% ABV and a cask strength version which is described as ‘a rare opportunity to explore one of the individual layers and distinctive character behind our finished whiskey’. Just 110 700ml bottles of the Curraghmore Virgin French Oak Single Cask have been released, split across both variants. The 46% bottling will carry an RRP of €350 (US$408) and the higher-ABV option RRP €400 (US$467). The casks were selected by Noel Sweeney, former master distiller of Ireland’s Powerscourt Distillery and Cooley Distillery. He also helped develop Michael Flatley’s Irish whiskey brand. “Noel chose these casks as they were his favourite in our portfolio,” the brand said. “The collection presents a deconstruction of our triple cask Curraghmore Whiskey in either its purest form straight from the barrel or a lower-ABV version. Discover how each whiskey is so different in its own right but when blended together it creates a whole new array of fascinating aromas and flavours. “As a team we are incredibly excited to broaden our portfolio of products to show how Curraghmore Whiskey is making its mark in the whiskey world and what is to follow.” The three-part Annamh Collection will continue with the release of a single ex-Bourbon cask expression later in 2026 and conclude with a single oloroso Sherry cask in 2027. The brand plans to work with on-trade stockists to offer tasting flights of the three planned single cask expressions alongside the Curraghmore Whiskey 2026 Triple Cask. Curraghmore Whiskey was founded by Richard de la Poer Beresford, Earl of Tyrone, in 2016. Its whiskeys are distilled at Great Northern Distillery in Dundalk, County Louth. Irish single pot still whiskey has been produced on the island of Ireland since at least the 18th century. Like single malt whisky, it must legally be produced at one distillery using copper pot stills, but it is distinct in that it is made from a mash of malted barley and other un-malted cereals. The Irish government recently opened a public consultation in which interested parties have been invited to submit observations and objections to the existing Irish whiskey technical file. The Spirits Business recently spoke with producers about the potential for updates to the definition of pot still whiskey to broaden the category by granting greater flexibility in production.

Isthmus 44 獨立蘇格蘭威士忌商尋求融資 瞄準印度超高級市場擴張

Google News(Scotch/Distillery)|原題:Isthmus 44 Targets India's Premium Whisky Market Expansion - Whalesbook

Independent Scotch bottler Isthmus 44 is seeking follow-on funding to expand its ultra-premium whisky business from Gurgaon to other major Indian cities. The private firm focuses on finite, single-cask 'Chapter' releases rather than mass-market volume, aiming to capture demand for rare spirits among discerning Indian drinkers. Isthmus 44, a niche player in the spirits industry, is working to establish a stronger foothold in India’s growing market for ultra-premium whisky. The company, which operates as an independent bottler under Tartan Paisley Bev Private Limited, selects unique casks directly from Scottish distilleries to create limited-edition releases it calls 'Chapters.' Unlike large whisky brands that focus on massive production volumes, Isthmus 44 follows a model based on scarcity and provenance. Each 'Chapter' released by the company consists of a limited number of bottles derived from a specific cask. This approach limits the company’s ability to scale rapidly, as its growth is tied directly to the availability of exceptional casks rather than marketing or production capacity. The company is currently operational in Gurgaon and is preparing to expand its footprint into other major Indian metropolitan centers, including Mumbai, Bangalore, Pune, and Chandigarh. To support this growth, the company is seeking follow-on funding. This capital is intended to help launch new 'Chapter' releases, build out retail and on-trade partnerships, and enter these new geographic markets. Operating in the Indian alcohol industry involves navigating a complex environment. Alcoholic beverages are regulated at the state level in India, which means rules, taxes, and licensing requirements vary significantly across different cities and states. For a niche business that relies on high-value, imported products, managing these logistical and regulatory differences is a key operational challenge. While the company is targeting a segment of the market that values rarity, it faces stiff competition. The Indian whisky market is dominated by large domestic and international conglomerates with deep distribution networks and significant brand power. Isthmus 44 differentiates itself by offering a curated experience similar to trends seen in other markets like Taiwan, where independent bottling gained traction as consumers sought out unique, single-cask spirits. Another layer of business complexity lies in the supply chain. Because the company follows Scottish Whisky Association regulations, the selection and bottling of the spirit must occur at the source in Scotland. This creates a dependency on international suppliers and logistical channels, which can be affected by global shipping costs and trade policies. For the company, success will depend on its ability to maintain a steady supply of high-quality casks and its success in marketing these rare, expensive bottles to a target audience that has traditionally favored established, mass-market brands.

Bardstown Bourbon Company Drops 2 Limited Edition Offerings Bardstown Bourbon Company To Release Lochs of Jura Barrel Finish & 2026 Discovery Bardstown Bourbon Company, one of the top whiskey producers in the nation, is known for its innovation, taking big swings in creativity that routinely pay off. Bardstown Bourbon Company once again is delivering imaginative barrel finishes and blends by way of its two new limited edition offerings. Bardstown Bourbon Company’s wares have graced these pages in previous times and for good reason. The brand’s origin series, along with its collaborative releases and the Discovery Series, has enraptured whiskey fans the world over. For this year’s annual releases, Bardstown is happy to unveil its Lochs of Jura Barrel Finish Whiskey and Discovery Series 2026. First, let’s take a look at the Lochs of Jura Barrel Finish Whiskey. The brand’s approach for this unique barrel finish started with a blend of straight bourbon and rye whiskies from Indiana and Kentucky aged between 10 and 12 years that spent an additional 32 months in sherry casks that once housed Scotch whisky from the remote Isle of Jura. “These releases started from two different questions,” said Dan Callaway, Master Blender, Lofted Spirits. “Discovery asked how far we could take an already exceptional blend. Lochs of Jura asked what unique character these remarkable casks could contribute over time. Both led us somewhere unexpected, and that’s where the exciting whiskey discoveries happen.” Callaway added, “At Bardstown Bourbon, we are relentless in pursuit of flavor and no whiskey typifies this like the Isle of Jura. With just 238 residents, Jura is not just remote – its location offers a unique fingerprint of flavor singular to these barrels.” The experiment is paying off so far, with Lochs of Jura Barrel Finish getting awarded 99 points at the 2026 International Wine & Spirit Competition. The bottle, which sits at 104 proof, is the highest score in this year’s North America judging. For the Discovery Series 2026, Bardstown Bourbon Company blended a trio of 7-, 10-, and 11-year-old bourbons aged in the high floors of the rickhouses, and finished for four months in Garryana oak barrels. This bottling is the second to use the Garryana oak barrels, the first being the Distillery Reserve Cascadia. The Discovery Series 2026 sits at a hefty 112.8 proof, with the Garryana oak, a tree native to the Pacific Northwest, imparting its mark on the final flavor. Bardstown, for the first time, enlisted commissioned artwork inspired by the whiskey. Louisville artist Margaret Archambault crafted each design after sampling the whiskies. These releases also mark new territory for Bardstown with the Discovery moving to annual releases instead of numbered ones, and broadening its Finishing Series 2026 Discovery and Lochs of Jura Barrel Finish will be available nationwide in limited quantities starting August 21, 2026, and offered at a suggested retail price of $139.99 for each 750 mL bottle. 16 Best Whiskey Bottles Under $60 If you're looking for the best whiskey bottles under $60, you'll want to find the sweet spot where quality exceeds basic bottles while still being affordable — which is exactly what I've focused on here. This list of Scotch, bourbon, and beyond will give you plenty of options for bottles that deliver outstanding quality without demanding a premium price. There are no rules here beyond each bottle needing to be available for under $60 as of this writing. That $60 price point isn't just when these bottles are on sale; the average price of each bottle is under that mark, with some being comfortably below it. Plus, these picks aren't based on online ratings or random choice. I've personally tasted each of them and believe they offer excellent value for those looking for a step up in quality. This list is backed by my years of reviewing, collecting, and exploring hundreds of bottles from around the world. Whether you want an elite daily pour, a brilliant gift, or just to experience great whiskey without spending too much, I've got you covered. With a varied selection on offer, your only difficulty will be choosing which bottle on this list to buy first. Maker's Mark Cask Strength Whisky that's both affordable and well above the average bottle's quality doesn't get much better than Maker's Mark cask strength whisky (as the brand spells it). Now, the vast majority of whiskies are watered down after being matured to meet a set proof. But cask strength bottles are different, as the liquor you taste is the same as when it came out of the barrel. If you're already a fan of the Maker's Mark range, you'll instantly have great appreciation for this bottle, which instantly turns up those familiar flavors without losing balance. The nose has a brilliant contrast of sweet and spicy notes, and the same applies to the palate. You'll get rich layers of butterscotch, toffee, and brown sugar balanced by cinnamon, toasted oak, and clove. Additional sips reveal deeper notes such as cherries, nuts, and dark chocolate. These flavors are all delivered on a creamy and well-rounded mouthfeel that can make you forget the higher proof. With an affordable price tag and approachability, it's a brilliant introduction to strong whisky. Jameson Black Barrel Another brand that's known for its smooth whiskey is Jameson. This Black Barrel expression is one of the cheapest on the list, at an average price of just over $40. It's perhaps the best bottle in the core Jameson range, taking the approachable character you get from its flagship bottle and adding some more richness and complexity. The whiskey itself is blended from a mix of triple-distilled single pot still and grain whiskeys. It gets its name from the whiskey being matured in double-charred barrels, which helps to give it some impressively deep flavors. There is a beautiful sweetness on the aroma that develops elegantly on the tasting experience. There's a velvety combination of caramel, honey, and vanilla contrasted by more earthy notes of roasted nuts, cinnamon, and charred oak, before you get to enjoy warming spice on an impressive finish. Its ability to combine its smoothness with deeper flavors makes it great value for the money. Old Forester 1897 Old Forester has an impressive range of whiskeys, and tends to name them after historical moments. This expression honors the Bottled-in-Bond Act of 1897 which was brought in to ensure whiskey met minimum standards. This bottle is a great example of this type of whiskey, with one of its key rules being that it has to be matured for a minimum of four years. With that minimum aging comes lovely aromas, including some unique notes of banana bread, roasted peanuts, and cocoa. The palate opens up with plenty of rich sweetness, with butterscotch being the highlight. A little dark cherry gives it some deep fruits with earthy spice coming in the form of cinnamon and black pepper. With a lovely oak running through the tasting experience to a long finish, it has impressive depth. These notes all come with a smooth and approachable character which makes it a smart buy, with most liquor stores selling it comfortably below $60. Glenfiddich 12-year As far as dependable single malts go, it's hard to look past the Glenfiddich 12 year Scotch. Usually around $50, it delivers an approachable, fruit-forward style that's almost impossible to dislike if you're a fan of Scotch. The nose is fresh and inviting, with a range of orchard fruits, such as green apple and pear, along with more delicate floral notes. With honeyed sweetness and fresh oak, it's a good indicator of the tasting experience to come. Those fruits can be found upon your first taste, with a sweetness that mainly develops into butterscotch and vanilla. There's also a gentle citrus here, balanced by a subtle spice. It isn't the most complex whisky in the world, but it's far from too light. Plus, the finish is clean and elegant, with lingering fruit, soft oak, and a gentle hint of almond. It's a great and affordable gateway to more expensive whiskies, such as the Glenfiddich 15-year-aged bottle, and beyond. Russell's Reserve 10-year Coming in at well under the $60, here you get the classic character of the Wild Turkey distillery with some extra maturity and refinement. Created by legendary master distiller Jimmy Russell and his son Eddie, this 10-year-old bourbon showcases that extended maturation doesn't need to come with a premium price tag. Bottled at 90 proof, it has a robust richness while still having everyday drinkability. That richness is immediately notable on the palate as you'll get some deep toffee and honey notes. There is plenty of spice here, too, mainly with cinnamon and pepper, plus further earth notes coming from roasted notes and oak. The decade of maturation adds some stone fruit and brown sugar, and allows it to have a long and warm finish. It's a whiskey that easily punches above its price point, giving you a level of maturity that's often associated with much more expensive bottles. Tomatin 12-year This Tomatin bottle deserves a little more love as it's one of the most overlooked whiskies around in 2026. Thankfully, if you want to try it, you probably won't have to spend much more than $50. The whisky here goes through a familiar journey in that it's mostly matured in ex-bourbon casks before being transferred to barrels that once held sherry. This helps to contribute to a fresh and fruity character that has Highland elegance while still giving you enough depth to enjoy multiple layers of flavor. I usually find only dark or orchard fruit notes when a whisky has matured in sherry casks, but here, they're joined by a tropical twist with some mango. Honey is the most sumptuous sweet note before the more earthy notes arrive. Cinnamon helps to keep it balanced, helped by some oak spice. You can even find some biscuit and chocolate on additional sips. With a smooth, creamy texture and a clean finish, it's a smart choice for those looking for a single malt away from the biggest brands. Angel's Envy Port Wine Barrel Finish This Angel's Envy bottle offers a unique twist on Kentucky bourbon. It's first aged for up to six years in the usual American oak barrels, then finished for up to six months in casks that have held port wine. This secondary maturation brings an extra layer of fruit and sweetness that add beautifully to its classic bourbon character. This showcases itself in the form of ripe berries and raisins with the aroma. Those fruits are joined on the palate some brighter notes in the form of citrus. The sweetness here mainly comes in the from of toffee and honey, but you'll also appreciate some dark chocolate, toasted oak, and a nice range of baking spices. The finish is smooth, allowing these lovely flavors to linger on the tongue. Far from a gimmick, this well priced Angel's Envy bottle showcases how elegant a finished whiskey can be while staying true to what you love about bourbon.

哈里遜·福特代言款威士忌!造訪蘇格蘭高地 Glenmorangie 酒廠

Google News(Scotch/Distillery)|原題:In the Highlands Looking for Harrison Ford’s Favourite Whisky - Esquire

It’s pronounced GlenMOrangie, not Glen-moranjee. That’s something that people get wrong a lot. Sometimes it’s good to know about these kind of things. On a drizzly summer afternoon in Inverness, the gateway to the Highlands, it takes an hour to drive to Glenmorangie House—HQ. The skyline is a postcard blur of beautiful Scotland: green fields full of cows, heather in vivid purple clinging to the roadside, a flash of still grey water from a distant loch. The name itself means ‘Valley of Tranquility’ in Gaelic, and it’s definitely tranquil. They’ve been making whisky here since 1843, when William Matheson and his wife Anne set about building a small distillery that has since grown to be one of the country’s most famous exports, which is some feat when you consider the location, a distant corner of Ross-shire. Rolling glens, a wide open sky, a windswept coastline and not too much else. Anyway, Harrison Ford. It probably comes as no surprise to find out that he’s a certified Whisky Guy, which made him an ideal fit as a collaborator. “Harrison wanted to get properly involved,” says distillery manager Ed Thom, who along with master distiller Dr. Bill Lumsden, worked with the actor on his own special edition bottle. “He’s very specific about what he likes,” says Thom. “He wanted it to be smooth with a little bit of bite, much like Harrison himself. So that’s exactly what we created. You can try the results for yourself.” An amiable Glaswegian with a sharp turn of phrase, we meet Thom at the distillery for a bit of a tour and tasting session. That old farmhouse from the 1900s has grown into an immaculate cluster of buildings in brick and shimmering glass, the centrepiece is called the Lighthouse, a modern structure and architectural fever dream that houses 20-metre-high copper stills—the tallest ins Scotland—that glint in the daylight. This isn’t a dingy back garden operation. They use hard, mineral-rich water (unusual, apparently) drawn from the nearby Tarlogie Springs, located in the bucolic wooded hills surrounding the distillery. After lots of oohs and aahs, and even a few woahs! We’re led through to the tasting room, which is particularly exciting because it means you get to try loads of delicious whisky in the Highlands on an empty stomach before lunch. Surrounded by old barrels that have been sourced from as far afield as Appalachia, Thom and his team run us through a range of Glenmorangie’s offerings. Harrison’s whisky, with that distinctive bite and a touch of citrus and toasted bread (I took some notes), was aged in bourbon barrels along with toasted Portuguese red wine casks. You can see why the big man was happy to have his name on the bottle. I ask for another, please. There’s also a superb 25-year-old sampler, which is definitely worth seeking out. What to Read Next Being a big Hollywood star, Ford also played a leading role in Glenmorangie’s latest campaign, a series of short films directed by Joel Edgerton that serves as a slightly meta, and actually very funny, look-at-what-it’s-like-to-be Harrison Ford acting in a whisky advert in the Highlands, featuring time constraints, inappropriate footwear, kilts and kicking back by the fire with a dram of course. As Ford himself said of the whole endeavour, “I’ll leave the whisky making to you guys and I’ll take care of the acting part.”

印度威士忌崛起的秘密——Indri 如何快速躍上國際舞台

Google News(Scotch/Distillery)|原題:This might be the cecret behind Indias rapid whisky rise - Whisky Monkeys

Did you know Indian whisky now seriously rivals Scotland’s greats? Indri whisky proves that top-quality whisky no longer has to come from Scotland alone. In a short time, this relatively young Indian whisky has picked up multiple international awards. But how can a whisky that’s only been on the market for a few years measure up so quickly to such established names? The Piccadily Distillery in India was founded in 1993 and produces, among other things, rum, but in 2021 it also began making whisky. Since then, several releases have hit the market—and they’ve already taken home multiple awards. So what’s the secret behind this still-young and fairly new whisky? India’s climate helps shape the whisky’s character One of the key factors is the climate. This part of India sees extreme temperature swings, which means maturation happens much faster than under more temperate conditions. On top of that, they use ex-bourbon and ex-wine casks as well as native Indian wood casks. Those native wood casks impart a distinctive, tropical spiciness that’s unique to Indri whiskies. Thanks to these two elements—the climate and the use of indigenous wood—you get rich, rounded flavors you’d normally expect from much older whiskies. Alongside already renowned Indian names like Amrut and Paul John, Indri has helped Indian whisky claim its place among the world’s top whisky-producing countries. With a capacity of 9 million liters per year, the Piccadily Distillery is India’s largest malt producer. Back to Indri itself. The name nods to the town where the Piccadily Distillery is located and this fine whisky is made, and in Sanskrit it also refers to the five senses. Indian whisky tops the World Whiskies Awards The senses of the World Whiskies Awards panel were pleasantly surprised by Indri whisky. In 2023, 2024, and most recently in 2026, it captured multiple prestigious prizes. As a result, Indri has become a serious challenger to established Scottish whiskies. Indian whisky is no longer a curiosity: it’s the product of a country consistently delivering top-tier quality. | Whisky Deals from Whisky Exchange | Week 34 | | Glen Moray Forbidden Fruit | 29,58 pounds | | Mortlach 2003 21 year old bourbon cask signatory | 158,33 pounds (save 55 pounds) | | Redbreast 18 year old | 112,50 pounds (save 40 pounds) | | Red Sport 1991 31 year old Marsala cask | 537,50 pounds (save 300 pounds) | | Suntory Tsukuriwake Cask Collection 2024 | 2395,83 pounds (save 800 pounds) | FAQ - Why does Indri whisky mature faster than Scotch? Because of India’s large temperature fluctuations, the maturation process is much faster than in Scotland’s temperate climate. - What makes Indri whisky special? Beyond ex-bourbon and ex-wine casks, native Indian wood casks are used, adding a signature tropical spiciness. - Is Indri whisky available in the Netherlands? Yes, several Indri releases are readily available in the Netherlands.

印度食品安全局檢查裴諾烈酒廠 採集Blenders Pride、Royal Stag威士忌樣品

Google News(Scotch/Distillery)|原題:FSSAI inspects Pernod plant, collects Blenders Pride, Royal Stag whisky samples in Bengaluru: Report - Firstpost

FSSAI inspects Pernod plant, collects Blenders Pride, Royal Stag whisky samples in Bengaluru: Report The two-day inspection at the French spirits maker’s plant last week saw inspectors collecting liquor samples for testing and requested documents related to the company’s operations Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) officials last week inspected a Pernod Ricard factory in Bengaluru and collected samples of its liquor products, according to a Reuters report, citing four sources familiar with the matter, as authorities widen scrutiny of the country’s $40 billion alcoholic beverages industry. The two-day inspection at the French spirits maker’s plant saw inspectors collecting liquor samples for testing and requested documents related to the company’s operations. According to the report, citing a government official, Pernod had also been told to improve hygiene at the facility and ensure that markings indicating the use of recycled plastic on its bottles were accurate. The sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the matter is confidential, said FSSAI officials had not issued any adverse findings against Pernod Ricard following the inspection. Pernod confirmed that its facility had been visited by food safety officials. "Regulatory inspections are an established part of the industry's compliance framework, and we are working constructively with the authorities," Reuters quoted the company as saying in a statement. Pernod added that it maintains robust quality and safety standards. The FSSAI has not publicly disclosed details of the inspection. Samples of popular whisky brands collected One source said inspectors collected samples of Pernod’s Blenders Pride and Royal Stag whiskies during the visit. Pernod describes Blenders Pride as its "top premium blended whiskies in India", while Royal Stag is marketed by the company as the first whisky in India not to use any artificial flavourings. The inspection comes amid an intensified regulatory crackdown on India’s alcoholic beverages industry, one of the world’s largest liquor markets. Earlier this month, the FSSAI banned several whisky and rum brands made by Diageo and other Indian companies, alleging improper addition of flavours. The move has triggered concern across the industry and prompted companies to review their products and compliance practices. Diageo has agreed to reformulate some of its popular brands in an effort to have the bans lifted in some states, Reuters reported this week. The regulator has also scrutinised Diageo over labelling and the alleged improper addition of whisky flavouring to its products. Separately, FSSAI officials seized around 18,000 boxes of Diageo liquor bottles during an inspection of one of its facilities over allegations that the bottles lacked markings indicating they were made using safe recycled plastic, Reuters reported last week. Pernod faces wider regulatory challenges The scrutiny adds to a series of regulatory and legal challenges facing Pernod Ricard in India, a key growth market for global spirits companies. The French company is facing a $314 million demand from Indian authorities over allegations that it undervalued imports of Scotch whisky. Pernod also faces an antitrust case and a separate ban in New Delhi linked to alleged violations of the capital’s liquor policy. The company has denied wrongdoing in those cases. The latest FSSAI inspection does not, however, indicate that the regulator has taken any adverse action against Pernod. The sources said the visit was part of the broader food safety and compliance checks being carried out across the industry. The developments highlight the growing regulatory pressure on major alcohol companies operating in India, where authorities have stepped up checks on product composition, labelling, packaging and manufacturing standards. Bowmore has released a limited-edition Captivo Collection comprising two 20-year-old single malts, created in partnership with design studio Snarkitecture. The collection launched today (19 August) on Bowmore.com, with wider retail and travel-retail rollouts to follow. Oldest Glenrothes Cask Ever: 57-Year-Old 1969 Whisky READ THE STORYThe collaboration brings together Islay’s oldest licensed distillery and the internationally acclaimed studio behind the bottle and packaging designs. The Captivo Collection includes Bowmore Captivo Oak Voyage and Bowmore Captivo Sherry Cask Pursuit. Each bottle features “portal” designs crafted by Snarkitecture co-founder Alex Mustonen. Bowmore Captivo Oak Voyage matured for two decades in American oak ex-Bourbon casks. It was then aged in American oak Oloroso sherry butts. According to the official notes from the brand, Oak Voyage “opens with notes of dark cherry, candied orange, and Manuka honey, complemented by an unexpected touch of cool eucalyptus and toasted oak, and finishing with smooth vanilla sweetness and a delicate whisper of campfire smoke.” Bowmore Captivo Sherry Cask Pursuit is a global travel retail exclusive. The whisky matured in Spanish oak Oloroso sherry and American oak ex-Bourbon casks, with an Oloroso sherry hogshead finish. The brand’s official notes describe “tropical fruit and cracked black pepper notes, balanced by soft oak and smoked toffee, with a lingering finish of sweet peat smoke and a touch of charred mango.” Dr Calum Fraser, master blender, Scotch and Irish at Suntory Global Spirits, said: “These beautifully aged whiskies are intentionally designed to reward exploration and reveal layers of flavour over time.” Fraser added: “While Bowmore’s signature style remains at their heart, balancing citrus, sweetness, and delicate smoky notes, each expression showcases the influence of different oak casks in a distinct way.” He continued: “The richness of Oak Voyage and the smooth sweetness of Sherry Cask Pursuit demonstrate the remarkable impact of time and cask selection. Snarkitecture has captured that sense of discovery brilliantly, creating designs that express the individuality of each whisky, while remaining true to Bowmore’s heritage.” Mustonen travelled from New York to Islay for the project. He drew inspiration from the island’s landscape and the distillery’s Bowmore No.1 Vaults, one of the world’s oldest maturation warehouses. The project marks Snarkitecture’s first venture into whisky. “Stepping into the world of whisky is a first for Snarkitecture,” Mustonen said. “I drew similarities between how Bowmore’s whisky is made, and how I approach an architectural environment.” Mustonen added: “I approached the Captivo creative in a similar way, with the artwork acting as a portal into the world of Bowmore; into something extraordinary.” Bowmore Captivo Oak Voyage is bottled at 50.8% ABV and priced at £312. Sherry Cask Pursuit is bottled at 51.8% ABV and priced at £320. Both expressions are available from today on Bowmore.com. Oak Voyage will reach Harrods from 1 September, followed by the US, Asia, Northern Europe and Canada. Sherry Cask Pursuit will arrive in select global travel retail later in 2026. Bowmore is owned by Suntory Global Spirits.

Isthmus 44 看準印度超高端威士忌市場 獨立裝瓶商模式複製台灣經驗

Google News(Scotch/Distillery)|原題:Isthmus 44 sees untapped opportunity in India’s ultra-premium whisky market - BusinessLine

India, the world’s largest whisky-consuming market, is seeing growing interest in independent bottlers and rare single-cask Scotch, with Isthmus 44 betting the category is at the start of a growth curve similar to markets such as Taiwan. Isthmus 44, operated under Tartan Paisley Bev Private Limited, is one of India’s first independent bottlers and curatorial houses for single cask Scotch whisky. “We don’t make whisky; we choose it. Rather than distilling or blending, we select individual casks directly from distilleries and warehouses in Scotland and bottle each one as a finite, numbered release we call a Chapter. No two casks are ever identical, so no Chapter is ever repeated,” explained Sachin Uppal, Founder, Isthmus 44 and Independent bottler. Uppal highlighted that independent bottling is a new idea for most Indian consumers. Despite that, the early signal is strong. He noted that enquiries for Chapter One have crossed its full outturn of 300-odd bottles, coming from organic interest, and increasingly from broader customers. Scotch Spend “It mirrors what happened in markets like Taiwan, where a culture of single malt appreciation was built in large part by local independent bottlers rather than big brands, and where per-capita Scotch spend is now among the highest in the world. We think India is at the very start of that same curve,” he noted. Despite India’s crowded whisky market, with both Indian and global brands competing for consumer attention, the ultra-premium, curated segment remains largely untapped. Isthmus 44 was built to cater to the discerning drinker that this segment has so far lacked, the founder said. Currently, the company is focused on India. However, it also has private clients around the world. As the brand grows, international access will likely stay allocation-led rather than a distribution push, with India remaining the priority. Not Quantity Domestically, the company has presence in Gurgaon, Haryana. It is looking to expand into other metro markets this year, including Chandigarh, Bangalore, Mumbai, Pune. Moreover, he added that Isthmus 44 will never be volume-driven, since the model is structurally capped by the quantity of good casks and not by demand. “Scaling by making more of the same cask isn’t possible, and manufacturing scarcity to fake growth isn’t something we’re interested in. We want to expand to more states and cities over the next couple of years, but that growth will always be provenance-driven, not volume-driven. Profitability for us grows the way the business does: more Chapters, each priced fairly for what that specific cask cost us,” Uppal shared. Investor Interest Isthmus 44 has no in-house bottling or cask facilities. Bottling happens in Scotland since, per SWA regulation, single malt Scotch has to be bottled at origin to legally carry the name. Its role is focused on sourcing and selecting individual casks and working with a panel of experts to determine when a cask has reached the right balance of distillery character and cask seasoning for bottling. As it grows, Isthmus 44 plans to add on-trade partners that complement its brand story and expand its retail presence selectively, focusing on the right stores and shelf space rather than rapid distribution. The company has raised a seed round from a small group of investors and is in discussions for a larger follow-on round to fund expansion, new Chapters, additional markets, and its retail and on-trade footprint. 印度禁令逼使Diageo改變熱門威士忌配方

Google News(Scotch/Distillery)|原題:Indian ban forces sudden recipe change for a popular Diageo whisky - Whisky Monkeys

Not long ago, Diageo got a sharp rap on the knuckles in India. Shipments worth millions in whisky and other spirits were blocked due to a non-compliant recipe that wasn’t permitted in those drinks. Diageo will now tweak the formulations of several brands to prevent this from happening again and to get its products back on Indian shelves. This concerns among others Royal Challenge Whisky and Antiquity Blue, two major names in India’s whisky market. McDowell's No. 1 Celebration Matured XXX Rum will also get a new recipe. Diageo must remove flavorings from whisky Earlier this month, the Indian food authority FSSAI stepped in after finding that certain drinks used flavorings that, according to the regulator, do not comply with Indian rules. As a result, several popular whisky and rum brands were suddenly barred from sale in India. That meant a hefty hit from lost revenue, but a solution now seems in sight. Diageo is overhauling the recipes of a few well-known bottles. The formulas for several brands are being adjusted so the prohibited substances are no longer included. According to the FSSAI, this must apply across all of India. In return, the regulator will lift the ban. Flavorings spark trouble for Diageo in India It’s crucial for Diageo to resolve the issue quickly. India is a massive market for spirits, and the company says more than 4.5 million nine-liter cases of Royal Challenge alone are sold annually. This is not a whisky gathering dust at the back of the range. The Royal Challenge label describes the spirit as a blend of Indian grain alcohol and imported Scotch whisky. The back label currently also states that nature-identical whisky flavorings have been added. That note is set to disappear. | Whisky Deals from Whisky Exchange | Week 34 | | Glen Moray Forbidden Fruit | 29,58 pounds | | Mortlach 2003 21 year old bourbon cask signatory | 158,33 pounds (save 55 pounds) | | Redbreast 18 year old | 112,50 pounds (save 40 pounds) | | Red Sport 1991 31 year old Marsala cask | 537,50 pounds (save 300 pounds) | | Suntory Tsukuriwake Cask Collection 2024 | 2395,83 pounds (save 800 pounds) | Not the first setback for Diageo in India Even so, calm hasn’t fully returned for Diageo. Recently, around 18,000 cases were also held aside by Indian inspectors. In that instance, it wasn’t about the whisky itself, but about missing mandatory markings on recycled plastic packaging. India appears to be ramping up its scrutiny of alcohol producers. And for a company selling millions of cases in the country, even a seemingly minor detail can suddenly have major consequences. FAQ - Which Diageo drinks will get a revised recipe in India? Among others, Royal Challenge Whisky, Antiquity Blue, and McDowell's No. 1 Celebration Matured XXX Rum will have updated recipes. - Why is Diageo changing these recipes? The Indian food authority FSSAI determined that certain flavorings used do not meet Indian regulations. By removing these ingredients, the drinks can return to market. - How important is India to Diageo? India is a major market for spirits. Diageo reports that Royal Challenge alone sells more than 4.5 million nine-liter cases annually.

Bardstown Bourbon Company 推出2款新橡桶完成威士忌——品質出眾

Google News(Scotch/Distillery)|原題:Bardstown Bourbon Company Is Dropping 2 New Cask-Finished Whiskeys—and They’re Fantastic - Robb Report

Bardstown Bourbon Company 推出兩款限量版橡桶完成威士忌。Lochs of Jura Barrel Finish

Fresh off the release of the surprisingly good Victoria Pineapple Finish, Bardstown Bourbon Company is back with a pair of excellent, and unusual, new cask-finished whiskeys. One is a blend of bourbon and rye finished in scotch whisky barrels for nearly three years, the other a blend of bourbons finished in a type of oak that is native to the Pacific Northwest. We got to sample these whiskeys, we and are happy to report that they both are very good and very unique. Bardstown Bourbon Company makes its own whiskey under its Estate-Distilled lineup, which used to be called the Origin Series but was renamed when the distillery redesigned its labels last spring to give them brighter, more prominent colors and type (a move that not everyone was happy with, if you peruse whiskey Reddit). Those whiskeys are good, but it’s the sourced and cask-finished blends where Lofted Spirits master blender Dan Callaway and his team really shine. For these two new expressions, Lochs of Jura Barrel Finish and 2026 Discovery, the distillery dove even further into focusing on design by enlisting Louisville artist Margaret Archambault to create new packaging. “These releases started from two different questions,” said Callaway in a statement. “Discovery asked how far we could take an already exceptional blend. Lochs of Jura asked what unique character these remarkable casks could contribute over time. Both led us somewhere unexpected, and that’s where the exciting whiskey discoveries happen.” Lochs of Jura Barrel Finish is a blend of bourbon and rye, something that BBC and other distilleries and brands like High West and Knob Creek have done before. Specifically, the components are as follows: 49 percent 11-year-old Indiana bourbon (from MGP), 39 percent 10-year-old Indiana rye (also from MGP), and 21 percent 12-year-old Kentucky bourbon from an undisclosed distillery. The blend was then finished for 32 months in ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks previously used to mature single malt scotch from Scotland’s Isle of Jura (presumably from the Jura distillery, given that it’s the only whisky producer on the island). According to BBC, the 59-gallon sherry casks were too large to be stored in the ricks and had to be placed in warehouse aisles instead, but it’s unclear if that had an effect upon maturation (there is likely some, given that these were stored at low levels). The whiskey, bottled at 104 proof, is delicious, with notes of oak, dried and fresh berries, a bit of salinity, apple cobbler, and the faintest whiff of smoke if you think about it really hard. The second release is 2026 Discovery, a blend of the following components—55 percent 10-year-old Indiana bourbon, 25 percent 11-year-old Kentucky bourbon, and 20 percent 7-year-old Kentucky bourbon—bottled at 112.8 proof. The blend was finished for four months in custom-made garryana oak barrels made from trees in the Willamette Valley. This is actually the second time that BBC has used garry oak this year—the first being the release of Cascadia—but it’s more commonly associated with Seattle distillery Westland, which is about to release its annual Garryana Single Malt expression. This whiskey has strong toasted wood and cinnamon flavors picked up from the secondary maturation, as well as butterscotch, maple, flamed orange, and cherry syrup notes. According to the distillery, these are limited-edition releases, but both 2026 Discovery 2026 and Lochs of Jura Barrel Finish will be available around the country at specialty retailers starting August 21 (SRP $140).

The Kentucky based Bardstown Bourbon Co has announced the launch of two new limited-edition expressions, which are said to explore whiskey innovation in entirely different ways. Bardstown Bourbon Co Lochs of Jura Barrel Finish (52% ABV) is a blend of Straight Bourbon and Rye whiskies, which were matured for an additional 32 months in ex-Bourbon and ex-Sherry casks, previously used to mature single malt Scotch whisky from the Isle of Jura. The Jura casks are said to have contributed layers of ripe fruit, soft malt, subtle smoke and maritime character, while preserving the whiskey’s rich Bourbon foundation. Bardstown Bourbon Co 2026 Discovery (56.4% ABV), a blend of 7, 10 and 11 Year Old Straight Bourbon whiskies finished for four months in custom-made Garryana oak barrels, is said to showcase the balance and complexity that have become hallmarks of the series. This year’s Discovery release is described as opening with layers of toasted oak, burnt sugar and baked apple cobbler. Dried cherry and cinnamon bark emerge across the palate, leading to a long, warming finish accented by the distinctive influence of Garryana oak. For the first time, Bardstown Bourbon Company’s annual releases also feature original commissioned artwork inspired directly by the whiskey itself. Louisville artist Margaret Archambault created each piece after experiencing the liquid, translating its aroma, flavour and texture into visual art that now appears on the bottles and packaging. Commenting on the launch, Dan Callaway, Master Blender, said: “These releases started from two different questions. Discovery asked how far we could take an already exceptional blend. Lochs of Jura asked what unique character these remarkable casks could contribute over time. Both led us somewhere unexpected, and that’s where the exciting whiskey discoveries happen.” Dan, added: “At Bardstown Bourbon, we are relentless in our pursuit of flavour, and no whiskey typifies this like the Isle of Jura. With just 238 residents, Jura is not just remote – its location offers a unique fingerprint of flavour singular to these barrels.” Bardstown Bourbon Co Lochs of Jura Barrel Finish and Discovery 2026 will be available from August 21st through selected retailers in the US, for a RRP of $139.99 each. 被遺忘的珍藏:First Cask 系列蘇格蘭單一麥芽威士忌

Google News(Scotch/Distillery)|原題:First Cask: A Forgotten Collection of Exceptional Single Malt Scotch Whisky - The Whiskey Wash

In the world of independent Scotch whisky, certain names have become legendary. Signatory Vintage, Cadenhead’s, Gordon & MacPhail and Douglas Laing are instantly recognisable to collectors. Yet one fascinating independent series remains surprisingly overlooked: The First Cask Malt Whisky Series. Oldest Glenrothes Cask Ever: 57-Year-Old 1969 Whisky READ THE STORYLaunched in 1992, First Cask offered Direct Wines members access to single-cask Scotch from some of Scotland’s most celebrated distilleries. Supplied and bottled by Signatory Vintage, the series eventually grew to more than 800 individual releases. Today, First Cask deserves renewed attention. Many of its bottlings contain whisky distilled during the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s, including spirit from distilleries that have since closed. Macallan, Laphroaig, Balvenie and Bowmore appear alongside lost names such as Brora, Rosebank, Port Ellen, Dallas Dhu and North Port. For collectors, it represents a remarkable snapshot of an earlier era of Scotch whisky – mature single-cask spirit bottled long before the modern boom in vintage whisky collecting. The Birth of First Cask The First Cask story began in 1992, when Direct Wines approached Signatory Vintage to create an exclusive range for its members. The arrangement was simple: Signatory supplied and bottled the whisky, while Direct Wines marketed the releases through its members’ club. The Whiskey Wash is protected by reCAPTCHA, and the Google Privacy Policy and Terms of Service apply. The inaugural First Cask release consisted of four sister casks of 1972 Balvenie, establishing the series’ single-cask philosophy from the outset. Rather than producing a standardised house style, First Cask selected individual casks and bottled them separately. Bottles were identified by their individual cask and bottle numbers and were generally presented at 46% ABV. The timing was particularly fortunate. During the 1990s and early 2000s, considerable stocks of mature Scotch from previous decades were still available. Whisky from distilleries that would later become highly collectible – or disappear altogether – could still be found in independent warehouses. First Cask quietly made the most of that opportunity. The series continued for more than two decades, with releases appearing throughout the 1990s and 2000s before the Direct Wines incarnation eventually came to an end in 2014. Why First Cask Matters Today At first glance, First Cask bottles can seem rather understated. The labels are relatively simple, lacking the elaborate presentation found on many modern premium releases. The series never achieved the same collector profile as some of today’s best-known independent bottlers. That modest presentation, however, is part of the charm. Behind those uncomplicated labels are single casks of mature Scotch, often distilled decades before bottling. For today’s collector, a First Cask bottle can offer: - Single-cask provenance - Whisky distilled decades ago - Individual cask numbers - Relatively limited bottle numbers - Original 1990s and 2000s bottling - Whisky from distilleries that have since closed - Spirit bottled before vintage Scotch became a major collecting phenomenon In short, the whisky can be considerably more impressive than the packaging suggests. First Cask Bottlings Worth Hunting Down With more than 800 releases, identifying the definitive First Cask bottlings is almost impossible. Age, distillery, cask type, rarity, reputation and condition all influence a bottle’s desirability. Nevertheless, several releases stand out as particularly compelling examples of what the series achieved: – Balvenie 1972 20 Year Old – The Original First Cask One of the most historically significant First Cask bottles, this rare 20 year old Balvenie was distilled in 1972 and bottled for Direct Wines in 1992, making it part of the inaugural First Cask releases. A superb vintage Speysider, it is a particularly important bottle for collectors because of its place in the history of the series. Brora 1982 21 Year Old – A Highland Classic Few names carry the same collector appeal as Brora. This 21 year old Highland single malt was distilled at Brora on 25 February 1982 and bottled in January 2003 for First Cask from cask 275. With Brora now firmly established among the world’s most sought-after closed distilleries, early independent bottlings such as this are particularly fascinating. Glen Grant 1976 24 Year Old – The Sherry Bomb This 24 year old Glen Grant was distilled on 19 March 1976 and matured in single sherry cask 2894 before being bottled for the First Cask series. This is certainly one for the lover of sherry matured malt, the colour and depth are incredible. Glen Grant is often overlooked beside some of its more fashionable Speyside neighbours, making mature independent bottlings such as this particularly interesting for collectors seeking something outside the obvious names. Laphroaig 1967 28 Year Old – An Islay Time Capsule Few First Cask releases illustrate the appeal of the series better than this exceptionally rare 28 year old Laphroaig. Distilled on 27 November 1967, the whisky was drawn from single cask 2202 and bottled by Direct Wines in the mid-1990s, this is unmistakably Laphroiag, with a heavy peat and maritime smoke flavour profile. This is a remarkable piece of Islay whisky history, representing spirit distilled during a very different era at Laphroaig, when they supplied some of their greatest ever stock. Macallan 1965 29 Year Old – The Star of the Series? If one First Cask bottling could be described as a flagship, this may be it. This exceptional 29 year old Macallan was distilled on 25 February 1965 and bottled around 1994 for the Direct Wines First Cask range. Matured in single sherry cask 1056, it represents exactly the kind of whisky that makes old independent bottlings so fascinating, a flavour profile that is richly sherry and fruit laden. The whisky has also received a remarkable 92-point score from WhiskyFun, a time when Macallan were churning out some of their sherry legends, that are unmistakable and simply magnificent. Today, mature Macallan from the 1960s is among the most sought-after whisky in the world, making an independently bottled 1965 vintage from the First Cask era an especially significant collector’s bottle. Rosebank 1981 20 Year Old – A Lowland Gem Rosebank is another closed distillery whose reputation has grown enormously over recent years. This rare 20 year old Rosebank was distilled on 26 February 1981 and bottled for First Cask in October 2001, from single cask 413. For collectors of Lowland whisky and closed distilleries, this light and floral malt is an excellent example of why older First Cask releases are worth investigating. A Who’s Who of Vintage Scotch The six examples above represent only a fraction of the First Cask story. Across the wider series, collectors can find whisky from some extraordinary distilleries. Macallan, Laphroaig and Glen Grant feature among the 1960s vintages, while the 1970s produced bottlings from names such as Bowmore, Balvenie, Ardbeg and Dallas Dhu. The 1980s brought another fascinating generation of whisky, including Port Ellen, Rosebank and Brora. For today’s enthusiast, this provides an extraordinary opportunity to explore the changing character of Scotch whisky across several decades – often through individual casks that were selected and bottled long before these distilleries became fashionable collector names. A Lasting Legacy

Sip This Bourbon Cocktail With Your Next Ribeye For A Match Made In Heaven Enjoying a ribeye for dinner is a treat meant to be savored. If you know your different cuts of steak, you know ribeye is particularly flavorful and tender because of its fat and muscle content. So, it's a must to complement this meat (and elevate the entire meal) with the best drink pairing possible. To help you find your favorite duo, we asked experts from the food and beverage world about the drinks that pair perfectly with ribeye steak. Whiskey and cocktail enthusiasts will particularly want to take note when it comes to the recommendation from Bo Donnelly, general manager of the steakhouse 18 Oaks at JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa, who cites the honey badger cocktail. The honey badger is one of the most refreshing whiskey cocktails. It teams bourbon with honey syrup, ginger syrup, Yellow Chartreuse, lemon juice, and lemon bitters. These ingredients create a beautiful balance: bourbon's sweet vanilla and caramel (not to mention oakiness) mix with the sweet honey syrup, heat from the ginger, bright acidity from the lemon, and herbaceousness from the Chartreuse. Together, the drink's profile almost works as a seasoning for the steak. The bourbon stands up to the meat's savoriness and umami qualities, while the acidity cuts the fatty richness so keep going back for more bites — and sips. What to expect from the honey badger, and what other drink works similarly If you've never had a honey badger, there are a few similar household-name cocktails out there. It's not too far off from a penicillin cocktail, which contains honey, ginger, lemon, and Scotch, but skews a touch sweeter with its bourbon, and is more complex with the botanical quality of the Chartreuse. It's also reminiscent of the gin-based bee's knees cocktail with lemon and honey, though the honey badger is better built for standing up to a rich ribeye, considering its woody, caramelly bourbon. The bourbon cocktail walks a perfect line, appealing to whiskey drinkers but also offering a light and refreshing quality for gin or vodka fans as well. Having managed a steakhouse where he built the biggest wine collection in San Antonio, Donnelly knows a thing or two about pairing top-notch steak with exceptional drinks. If you're dining somewhere that doesn't offer a honey badger, think about what makes Donnelly's suggestion work and how you can enjoy some of the qualities of this cocktail from a different beverage. For example, Donnelly also enjoys white wine with a ribeye — but thinking about the varying types of white wine is key. You want something full-bodied so that, like the whiskey-forward honey badger, it isn't overwhelmed by the meat. An oak-aged Spanish verdejo wine is on the fuller side with those bourbon-like woody notes, imparting the spice, sweetness, and lemon brightness you'd find in the honey badger.

By Tabitha Evans Moore Editor & Publisher LYNCHBURG, Tenn. — A motion to grant The Retreat at Whiskey Creek a special exception for its next phase of development died for lack of a second at Tuesday’s Metro-Moore County Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA) meeting. Moments later, the board’s longtime chairman announced his resignation. Board member Peggy Blackburn moved to grant the exception. Fellow members Patrick Maynard and Houston Lindsey failed to second the motion, and it failed without a vote. Chairman Keith Moses abstained from the vote. Fifth member Josh Cook was absent for the second meeting in a row. Neighbors vocally opposed Phase 2 Four people spoke during the public comment period, all raising concerns about the project. Moore County Highway Superintendent Shannon Cauble addressed road concerns. Planning Commission Chair Dexter Golden reminded the board that Metro Council had previously directed developer Chip Hayes to complete 75% of Phase One before advancing to Phase Two. A neighbor, Auriella Swann, who had previously addressed the Metro Council, repeated her earlier concerns, and neighbor Chris Dickey also spoke against the project on behalf of himself and his father, Jim Dickey. The Dickey family farm surrounds the Whiskey Retreat footprint on one side. They share approximately 1500 feet of shared property line and expressed concerns about liability should Retreat visitors wander onto their land. During his comments, Dickey stated that a preliminary campsite drawing showed 45 RV campsites and an additional 16 yurts. “There’s already 79 tiny homes going up there. That’s 61 more spots,” he said. “If there’s two people in each, that 122 folks. If there’s three, that’s 183. Add four people in each and that 244 additional people on that 23 acres. That’s more than the population of Lynchburg.” Hayes arrived roughly 20 minutes after the meeting began. During board discussion, Chairman Moses questioned whether the RV campground and yurt component of the project qualified as a second phase at all — a position that appeared to run counter to the condition Golden had just cited. Fellow BZA member Lindsey pushed back on his assertation. In an act of transparency, Maynard disclosed during the meeting that he had spoken with neighbors about the project before the hearing, though he did not name which neighbors. Moses resigns from the BZA following meeting At the conclusion of the meeting, Moses announced he was stepping down from the board after nearly eight years of service, most of it as chairman. In a Facebook post the same night, in which The Lynchburg Times was tagged, Moses wrote, “I am proud to say that during my time on the BZA, the members, to my knowledge, did not participate in any inappropriate conversations and/or deliberations on any matter that came before the Board. That may not have been the case for other local boards.” Moses did not specify which boards or officials he was referring to, or what conduct prompted the remark.

If ‘whisky’ and ‘cocktail’ conjure up an image of a rich Old Fashioned, it’s time to expand your palate. The best whisky cocktails beyond the Old Fashioned go well past the classics, from a frothy Whisky Sour to a smoky Penicillin. Here’s a list to bookmark for your next (cocktail) bar crawl. The best whisky cocktails beyond the Old Fashioned — Manhattan, Whisky Sour & more Ella Fitzgerald crooned “We’ll have Manhattan” (and although she meant the island and not the cocktail), the sentiment holds true for the delicious cocktail made with whisky, sweet vermouth and bitters, reportedly whipped up by one Dr. Iain Marshall, a guest at a party thrown by Lady Randolph Churchill in honour of presidential candidate Samuel J. Tilden. Considering this took place in New York’s exclusive Manhattan Club in the 1880s, the nomenclature adds up. Another version of the drink’s origin story hails from William F. Mulhall, a bartender who had worked at the Hoffman House for over 30 years, who in the 1880s wrote: “The Manhattan cocktail was invented by a man named Black, who kept a place ten doors below Houston Street on Broadway in the 1860s.” The Whisky Sour dates back (officially) to the 1860s, but as it turns out, sailors in the British Navy were guzzling it down long before. Clean water wasn’t always accessible on long sea journeys and so spirits (especially those at room temperature like whisky and bourbon) were vastly preferred to quench a sailor’s thirst. Added to this, Scurvy was a constant danger, so they would always have a limitless supply of lemons and limes on deck. Throw these all together and add in some sugar and water and you have your Whiskey Sour sans the foamy texture caused by the whipped egg-white that characterises it today. Unlike the other classics on this list, the Penicillin is a relative newcomer, having been created in 2005 by Australian bartender Sam Ross at New York’s Milk & Honey. Ross was looking to put a whisky spin on the Gold Rush, another Milk & Honey creation made with bourbon, lemon juice and honey. He swapped the bourbon for blended Scotch and added fresh ginger to the honey syrup, before floating a measure of smoky Islay single malt on top. The result was a modern classic that combines citrus, honey, ginger and peat in one glass. Its name is a nod to the antibiotic discovered by Scottish scientist Alexander Fleming, while the drink’s warming ingredients also give it the feel of a grown-up hot toddy. Lauded as a Creole creation, the Sazerac dates back to the 1830s, the reported birth child of one New Orleans resident and apothecary Antoine Amédée Peychaud, famous for the still-in-use Peychaud’s Bitters. The name of the potent cocktail comes from the Sazerac-de-Forge et fils, a French brandy reminiscent of the waning days of French Creole culture, and also a said favourite of dear Antoine. Years later the cognac was replaced by American Rye and briefly accompanied by Absinthe, the latter then being substituted by Peychaud’s Bitters. One can still taste its rich legacy at the historic Sazerac Bar in the Roosevelt Hotel. Think of the Rob Roy as the Manhattan’s Scottish cousin. The cocktail is traditionally made with Scotch whisky, sweet vermouth and bitters, and its most widely accepted origin story places its creation at New York’s Waldorf Astoria in 1894. The timing is significant: the hotel was close to the Herald Square Theatre, where the operetta Rob Roy, by composer Reginald De Koven and lyricist Harry B. Smith, was premiering. The show was loosely based on Scottish folk hero Robert Roy MacGregor, giving the drink its name. Most whisky connoisseurs will tell you that the spirit is best had neat, but sprinkling in a few drops of water actually helps open up its flavours and unlocks its hidden notes. With water diluting the alcohol's intensity, the usquebaugh’s more nuanced flavours and aromas are allowed to come to the surface. Bourbon is famously best enjoyed neat or on the rocks, and the Woodford Reserve Double Oaked, which undergoes a second round of ageing to gain its loaded flavour profile containing notes of caramel, maple syrup, dark chocolate, and baking spices, is no exception.
