Google News(Whisky 綜合)|原題:Bulleit Is Adding Its First New Core Whiskey In 15 Years - Forbes

For the first time in 15 years, Bulleit is adding a new whiskey to its permanent lineup, and the release combines the two styles that have helped define the brand. Bulleit ’87 is a 90-proof blend of bourbon and rye whiskey, making it the first time the Diageo-owned brand has combined the two into a single core expression. The whiskey debuted this week at the Tales of the cocktail conference in New Orleans and joins Bulleit Bourbon and Bulleit 95 Rye as the third bottle in Bulleit’s permanent lineup and will begin arriving at select retailers nationwide in September for $29.99. The “87” isn't an age statement. Instead, it refers to 1987, the year Bulleit was founded. It’s also a nod to the brand’s history with rye, both as a component of its signature high-rye bourbon and as the centerpiece of Bulleit 95 Rye. Bulleit ’87 is also notable for how the two whiskeys are made before they come together. The bourbon is distilled, barreled and aged at Bulleit’s distillery in Shelbyville, Kentucky, while the rye is distilled and aged in Indiana before being transported to Kentucky. Both components spend at least four years aging separately. They are then finished, still separately, in their original barrels with toasted American oak and French oak staves for four to six weeks. Only after that additional maturation are the two whiskeys blended and bottled at 45% ABV. “If I were to visualize it, it's like a cake,” Phil Gelineau, whiskey R&D manager at Bulleit, said in a statement. “The bourbon is your delicious sponge, the rye is like chocolate shavings on top, and the staves are the buttercream that brings it all together.” The use of finishing staves is new territory for Bulleit. Rather than transferring the whiskeys into entirely different finishing barrels, toasted pieces of American and French oak are placed into their existing barrels, allowing the whiskey to extract additional flavors from the wood. According to Bulleit, ’87 opens with aromas of caramel and brown sugar followed by baking spices and oak, finishing with a combination of sweetness and rye spice. The brand is positioning the whiskey primarily as a sipper, recommending it neat or over ice. “87 brings together everything that makes Bulleit great,” Jenika Newsum, senior brand manager at Bulleit Frontier Whiskey at Diageo, said in a statement. “Bourbon and rye whiskey are at the heart of our brand since its founding and guide our philosophy to do things differently. Now, ’87 unites them in one special bottle, balancing our signature bourbon sweetness with our rye spice in a bottle.” Bulleit’s Rye-Heavy History While Bulleit ’87 is new, rye has been central to the brand almost from the beginning. Tom Bulleit founded Bulleit Distilling Co. in 1987, drawing inspiration from a high-rye whiskey recipe associated with his great-great-grandfather Augustus Bulleit, a Louisville tavern keeper who made whiskey in the 1800s. The modern Bulleit Bourbon subsequently became known for its unusually high proportion of rye, giving the whiskey a spicier profile than more corn-forward bourbons. That rye connection became considerably more explicit in 2011 with the introduction of Bulleit Rye. Made with a mash bill of 95% rye and 5% malted barley, the whiskey became the brand's second major core expression. Bulleit says the rye was developed in response to requests from bartenders, a group the brand credits with playing an important role in its growth. The arrival of Bulleit Rye was also the last time the brand added an entirely new whiskey to its permanent core portfolio. That makes ’87 a relatively significant expansion for a brand that has spent the intervening years largely exploring variations on its existing bourbon and rye. Bulleit Has Been Experimenting Beyond Its Core Lineup While ’87 is the first addition to the permanent range since 2011, Bulleit hasn't exactly been sitting still. The brand has released a number of limited and premium whiskeys over the years, including Bulleit 10 Year, barrel-strength expressions and experimental releases. More recently, it has pushed into considerably older and more expensive territory. In June, Bulleit unveiled a 20-year-old straight rye, the oldest rye the brand has released. The whiskey was distilled in Indiana, aged for two decades in Kentucky and bottled at a hefty cask strength of 137 proof. Just 1,776 bottles are being released at $299 each, with the number of bottles chosen to commemorate America's 250th anniversary in 2026. That bottle sits at almost the opposite end of the spectrum from Bulleit ’87. Rather than being a collectible limited release with a three-figure price, ’87 is designed to sit alongside Bulleit Bourbon and Rye on shelves year-round. Its $29.99 suggested price is also essentially in line with those two existing bottles. Bulleit is supporting the launch with a 15-city sampling tour this summer, encompassing more than 20 events in cities including New Orleans, Austin, New York, Los Angeles and Louisville. At each stop, the whiskey will be paired with local foods, playing off the idea of bringing two distinct flavor profiles together. The release also gets a visual distinction from its siblings. While ’87 retains Bulleit’s familiar frontier-inspired bottle and slanted label, it uses a blue label, the first time the brand has used the color on one of its bottles. For a whiskey company that built its reputation around putting more rye into bourbon and then turned rye itself into its second flagship bottle, blending those two sides together feels like a logical next move. It just took Bulleit 15 years to make it permanent.

🔥 蘇格蘭威士忌大利好!美國取消關稅,英王訪美後獲9.33億英鎊市場免稅優惠

Google News(Scotch/Distillery)|原題:£933m boost for Scotland: Why Scotch whisky just got tariff-free US access - upday News

- logo-icon - UK - hamburger-menu-icon - logo-icon - close-icon - Categories - Home - UK News - World News - Cost of Living - Politics - Crime - Royal - Sport - Entertainment The United States has removed tariffs on Scotch whisky imports, lifting a 10% levy on Friday. The move delivers on President Donald Trump's April promise made following a state visit by King Charles and Queen Camilla, and opens up tariff-free access to the industry's most valuable global market worth £933 million in 2025. Scottish First Minister John Swinney called the development a "significant benefit" for an industry that had been harmed by the trade barriers. The agreement also allows US bourbon and Kentucky bourbon casks - worth £200 million annually and essential for maturing Scotch whisky - to enter the UK without tariffs. Ian Duddy, international director at the Scotch Whisky Association, welcomed the tariff removal as positive news for businesses on both sides of the Atlantic. He said the change will provide greater confidence to invest, grow exports, and support jobs and communities across Scotland and the US. "This outcome is testament to the strength of the enduring relationship between the UK and the US," Duddy said. "On behalf of the Scotch whisky industry, we are grateful to everyone who worked to make this happen, including His Majesty The King during his recent state visit. We look forward to building on this positive momentum and working with partners on both sides of the Atlantic to ensure Scotch whisky continues to thrive." The benefits extend beyond distillers to wider supply chains including cooperages, farmers, hospitality, and retail operations from Kentucky to Speyside. The whisky tariff removal came as Trump imposed new levies on over 60 countries, including the UK, citing insufficient enforcement of forced labor prohibitions. The UK faces a 10% tariff rate on other goods, though the government stated there is no change from previous arrangements and that the US has recognized British efforts on forced labor issues. Nodjame Fouad, chief executive of aged spirits and Champagne at Pernod Ricard, said the tariff-free trade for Scotch whisky is "very welcome news for our industry." She expressed hope for further progress on removing tariffs affecting other spirits and wine categories, including Irish whiskey, Champagne and Cognac. Previous tariffs had cost the Scotch whisky industry approximately £150 million, according to the Scotch Whisky Association. During Trump's first presidency, a 25% tariff on single malt Scotch ran for 18 months, resulting in an estimated £600 million loss in exports. At the start of his second term, he imposed a 10% levy with plans to increase it to 25% before reversing course after the royal visit. The whisky industry employs 41,000 people in Scotland and an additional 25,000 across the UK, with the US representing one-fifth of export value. Scottish Secretary Douglas Alexander said the tariff removal demonstrates the benefits of close UK-US collaboration and will create growth opportunities in American cities. 🔥 印度-英國貿易協議將重塑蘇格蘭威士忌在印度溢價市場的格局

Google News(Scotch/Distillery)|原題:Cheaper Scotch Will Reshape India’s Premium-Drinks Market - Sommelier India

The India–UK trade agreement is the week’s strongest India story because its effects will eventually reach the consumer’s glass. Import duty on Scotch whisky and gin has fallen from 150% to 75%, with a scheduled decline to 40% over the next decade. Producers expect imported premium Scotch to become more accessible, although state taxes, distribution costs and currency movements mean reductions will vary considerably. Industry estimates cited by The Economic Times suggest possible retail savings of approximately 12% to 20% on some bottles when the tariff benefit is fully passed through. The more consequential shift may be qualitative: broader choice for drinkers, cheaper bulk Scotch for Indian blenders and stronger competitive pressure on both international brands and India’s increasingly confident single-malt producers. This is exactly the sort of regulatory story the Brief should carry. It is not merely trade policy; it may alter what affluent Indian consumers buy, what restaurants and hotels pour, and how Indian distillers position their finest whiskies. I would place it in the upper half of the full global ranking.

AI generated summary, newsroom reviewed The world's best Bourbons were revealed at the International Whisky Competition 2026, one of the most respected blind-tasting contests. Every whisky is evaluated without judges knowing its brand, distillery, or proof, ensuring the results are based purely on quality. A. Smith Bowman Cask Strength Batch #5 claimed the coveted Best Bourbon Whisky title, while William Larue Weller 2025, Eagle Rare 17 Year Old 2025, John J. Bowman Single Barrel, and Early Times Bottled-in-Bond topped their respective bourbon categories. Check out the award-winning bottles that stood out at the IWC 2026 competition, what sets each apart, and why they're worth adding to every bourbon enthusiast's wishlist. This year's biggest winner didn't just take Best Bourbon Whisky award. It also won the Cask Strength and Small Batch categories, scoring 94.60 points overall. Made in Virginia, the bourbon is aged at least ten years and bottled at a strong 137.6 proof, with tasting notes of candied apple, stone fruit, soft florals and a trace of smoke. It follows the previous batch, which also won top bourbon honours in 2025, making this two years in a row for the label. In the US, bottles typically sell for $90 to $130, though most are distributed through the distillery's own lottery system rather than regular retail. This bottle won Best Wheated Bourbon, a category that swaps out rye for wheat in the mash, giving the whisky a softer, sweeter profile. It's part of Buffalo Trace's Antique Collection, an annual release that's become one of the hardest bourbons to find anywhere. Judges picked up notes of vanilla, maple, aged oak and tobacco layered over rich fruit. The official price is around $130 a bottle, but because so few are made each year, resale prices often climb into the thousands of dollars. Also part of the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection, this bottle won in the category for bourbons aged ten years or older. It spends more than eighteen years in the barrel, longer than most bourbons on the market, and comes out with notes of leather, caramel, pepper, dark cherry and vanilla. The suggested retail price is around $100 to $120, though like the Weller, real-world prices are usually much higher due to limited supply. Also produced at A Smith Bowman Distillery in Virginia, this bottle won Best Single Barrel Bourbon. Since it comes from individual barrels rather than a blend, there's some variation from bottle to bottle, but the flavour profile consistently leans toward toffee, fig, roasted almond and soft leather. It's priced more reasonably than the other winners, usually between $50 and $60 in the US. The most affordable bottle on this list, Early Times won Best Bottled-in-Bond Bourbon, a designation that requires the whisky to be aged at least four years and bottled at exactly 100 proof under US government regulation. It offers caramel, vanilla, brown sugar, oak and a touch of spice, and proves a good bourbon doesn't need a high price tag. It typically sells for $20 to $25 for a one- litre bottle in the US.

🔥 印度-英國FTA生效降低蘇格蘭威士忌關稅,但零售價格下跌有限

Google News(Scotch/Distillery)|原題:Scotch at a discount post UK FTA is only half the story for India's whisky market - The Economic Times

Listen to this article in summarized format The agreement, which came into force earlier this month, immediately reduces customs duty on Scotch whisky and gin to 75% from 150%, with tariffs set to decline further to 40% over the next decade. While the move is expected to make imported Scotch cheaper, industry executives say consumers should not expect dramatic price cuts immediately, as state excise duties, VAT, logistics costs and distributor margins continue to account for a significant portion of retail prices. Also Read: India-UK FTA comes into effect today, unlocking duty-free access for Indian exports Instead, the FTA is expected to accelerate the country's ongoing premiumisation trend while raising the quality benchmark for domestic producers. India, the world's largest whisky market by volume, sold about 259 million nine-litre cases of whisky in 2024, according to industry estimates cited by the Confederation of Indian Alcoholic Beverage Companies (CIABC). Whisky accounts for roughly two-thirds of India's spirits market, making even modest changes in pricing and consumer preferences significant for the industry. India was already the world's largest market for Scotch whisky by volume before the India-UK free trade agreement came into force. According to the Scotch Whisky Association (SWA), exports of Scotch to India reached a record £248 million in 2024, equivalent to about 192 million 70cl bottles, making the country the biggest overseas market by volume but only the fifth largest by value. The gap reflects India's long-standing demand for lower-priced Scotch, much of it used for blending by domestic distillers, even as premium bottled Scotch remained constrained by the country's 150% import duty before the FTA. Also Read: India-UK FTA draws mixed response from liquor industry over Scotch duty cuts Premium Scotch to get cheaper Rakshit Jagdale, Managing Director of Amrut Distilleries, expects retail prices of imported premium Scotch to fall meaningfully."What I strongly feel is that premium and luxury Scotch whisky prices will drop, MRP will drop. My personal opinion is that anything between 15 to 20% will be the drop," Jagdale told ET Online. "It will benefit Indian distillers who are importing blended malt Scotch to add to their mix in blended whisky. So, that will be a benefit to Indian distillers." Industry body International Spirits and Wines Association of India (ISWAI), however, estimates somewhat lower retail savings. Using Maharashtra as an example, ISWAI projects that a 750 ml three-year-old blended Scotch priced at Rs 2,500 could become around 12% cheaper, while a 12-year-old blended Scotch retailing at Rs 4,250 may see a 13% reduction, provided companies pass on the entire benefit of lower import duties to consumers. "The India–UK Free Trade Agreement is a strategic opportunity—not merely a tariff milestone—and policy decisions must stay focused on the broader economic dividends for all stakeholders, especially consumers," said Sanjit Padhi, CEO, ISWAI. Also Read: 'We did it': Modi, Starmer caught on mic hinting at breakthrough in UK-India trade deal "This agreement delivers three distinct benefits: Greater consumer choice, unlocking access to a wider range of premium global brands, improved access to bulk Scotch for domestic producers and modest price relief for consumers." Indian single malts unfazed Despite concerns that cheaper Scotch could threaten India's fast-growing single malt category, domestic producers appear confident. The tariff cuts also come at a time when India's homegrown single malt industry has emerged as a formidable challenger to imported Scotch. Industry estimates from the Confederation of Indian Alcoholic Beverage Companies (CIABC) show the country's single malt market stood at about 675,000 nine-litre cases in 2023, with Indian brands accounting for roughly 345,000 cases, over 50%, overtaking imported Scotch and other international single malts, which sold about 330,000 cases. Jagdale believes Indian single malts have already established themselves on quality. "Indian single malt whisky has already carved out a niche for itself within the spirits category in India. Yes, there is some sort of apprehension that cheaper Scotch, cheaper single malt Scotch will be available, but if you look at quality perspective and parameters, they are equal or better than the standard 12-year-old Scotch single malt," he said. Piccadily Distilleries, maker of award-winning Indri, echoed the sentiment. "The India–UK FTA is likely to be a defining moment for India's premium whisky market, but not in the way many initially expect," said Praveen Malviya, CEO, Piccadily Agro Industries Limited in his response to ET Online. "While the reduction in import duties on Scotch will certainly make premium Scotch more accessible over time, we believe the bigger impact will be on consumer behaviour rather than market disruption." Malviya argued that the agreement would accelerate premiumisation rather than trigger aggressive price competition. "Consumers will have greater access to globally renowned Scotch brands, leading to a more educated and discerning whisky drinker. This, in turn, raises the benchmark for everyone in the category." It added that Indian single malts have earned global credibility after repeatedly winning international awards. "The Indian whisky market is large enough for multiple premium categories to thrive. Scotch will continue to represent heritage and tradition, while Indian single malts will increasingly stand for innovation, provenance, and world-class quality," Malviya added. No price war expected Industry executives appear aligned that the tariff cut alone will not result in an industry-wide price war."We do not see a price disruption. But as I was mentioning, I see prices of BIO (bottled in origin) single malts and BIO blended Scotch prices to drop by about 15 to 20%." Piccadily also expects only gradual price corrections. "We don't see a significant price disruption in the premium whisky market." The company noted that final retail prices will continue to depend on state taxes, logistics, exchange rates and distribution costs. "The India–UK FTA will raise the level of competition, but it will be a competition driven by quality and innovation, not pricing." Bulk Scotch may be the bigger winner One of the less discussed beneficiaries could be Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL) manufacturers that rely on imported Scotch for blending.ISWAI noted that nearly 79% of India's Scotch imports arrive in bulk, rather than bottled form, and are used by Indian producers to manufacture premium blended whiskies. Lower import duties on bulk Scotch could therefore reduce input costs while enabling producers to improve quality. "The India–UK FTA creates a unique opportunity for Indian manufacturers to improve product quality, rationalise input costs, and enhance their competitiveness in both domestic and export markets," Padhi said. "It is therefore surprising that sections of the domestic industry continue to present an incomplete picture, despite the fact that Indian IMFL manufacturers stand to be among its biggest beneficiaries." State taxes remain the biggest variable Executives also cautioned that customs duty is only one component of the final bottle price."The biggest misconception is that lower import duties will automatically translate into significantly lower retail prices," Malviya told ET Online. "In reality, import duty is only one component of the final price. State excise duties, taxes, logistics, distribution costs and currency fluctuations all have a significant impact on what consumers ultimately pay." ISWAI similarly urged state governments not to offset the customs duty cuts by raising state taxes, arguing that doing so would dilute the intended benefits of the FTA. A premium market gets more competitive The timing of the agreement coincides with rapid premiumisation in India's spirits market. According to a

As a result of engagement led by the UK Government, distilleries and whisky drinkers on both sides of the Atlantic will be raising a glass to celebrate a landmark day for the beloved product as US tariffs are lifted. From today [24 July], whisky from the UK will now have zero tariffs following the agreement that was reached during His Majesty The King’s visit in April. Whisky distilleries across the country are set to benefit from the deal we secured from boosted trading with what is the largest market by value – in 2025, whisky exports to the US alone were worth £1 billion, almost 20% of all whisky exported from the UK. To mark the long-awaited milestone, Secretary of State for Scotland Douglas Alexander visited Pernod Ricard’s Strathclyde Distillery in the heart of Glasgow. Secretary of State for Scotland Douglas Alexander said: This is a day of celebration for Scotland’s whisky industry. The removal of tariffs by the US is a significant measure that will open up opportunities for growth and prominence for this already beloved Scottish product in US towns and cities. The action taken by President Trump demonstrates the partnership our two countries have and the close working in trade that supports economic growth both here in the UK and in the United States. This is the second action this month which has opened up the world even more to our whisky exports, with the India Free Trade Agreement, which came into force earlier in July, seeing tariffs reduced from 150% to 40% over the next ten years. Businesses have also benefitted from recent deals with China, the Gulf Co-operation Council, the EU, and the US, as the UK Government delivers for Scotland and continues to use the strength and reach of the UK to support economic growth in Scotland. I join all those raising a dram today for the efforts to reach this point and look forward to seeing our whisky industry flourish. The whisky industry supports 41,000 jobs in Scotland and a further 25,000 jobs across the UK, according to the Scotch Whisky Association. The removal of tariffs by the US is the latest big win for the industry this month, with the India FTA coming into force and reducing whisky tariffs from 150% to 75% immediately, then to 40% over ten years. Nodjame Fouad, CEO of Pernod Ricard’s Aged Spirits and Champagne division, said: We were delighted to welcome Secretary of State Douglas Alexander to the Strathclyde Distillery, to showcase our innovative energy efficiency technology and thank the UK Government for securing reduced tariffs with India and the US. Popular blended Scotch whiskies exported overseas, such as Ballantine’s and Chivas Regal, use grain whisky distilled at Strathclyde in the very heart of Glasgow. Trade deals can be explained in millions of dollars – but it’s when you visit a working distillery like this that you can see how improved market access can help secure economic growth in Scotland and across the UK at large. Ian Duddy, International Director at the Scotch Whisky Association, said: The return of tariff-free trade for Scotch Whisky in the US is welcome news for businesses on both sides of the Atlantic. As Scotch Whisky’s most valuable global market, worth £933 million in 2025, the removal of tariffs provides greater confidence to invest, grow exports, and support jobs and communities across Scotland and the US. From Kentucky to Speyside, this will not only benefit the Scotch and US whisky sectors, but our wider supply chains of cooperages, farmers, hospitality and retail. This outcome is testament to the strength of the enduring relationship between the UK and the US. On behalf of the Scotch Whisky industry, we are grateful to everyone who worked to make this happen, including His Majesty The King during his recent State Visit. We look forward to building on this positive momentum and working with partners on both sides of the Atlantic to ensure Scotch Whisky continues to thrive. Despite a new round of global tariffs announced by the US today, our landmark Economic Prosperity Deal remains in place, and we see an improvement to our trading terms with zero tariffs on both whisky and medical technology. The changes to whisky tariff arrangements with the US is the latest in a series of deals the UK Government has achieved to support businesses and economic growth. Alongside the India Free Trade Agreement, deals with the Gulf Co-operation Council and the European Union have all shown the importance of working with global partners to grow the UK’s economy and trade partnerships.

🔥 印度成長力道撐起全球威士忌市場 2026年緩衝衰退壓力

Google News(Scotch/Distillery)|原題:India’s Growth Keeps the Global Whisky Market Afloat in 2026 - Vinetur

2026-07-25 The global whisky market is moving through a reset in 2026, not a collapse, as growth in India, Irish whiskey and some emerging markets offsets weaker demand in the United States, Europe and the luxury end of China, according to an international industry review dated July 17. The report, based on trade data, company results and market research, describes a category that is still large and active but more selective than it was during the years when premiumization seemed almost automatic. Consumers are still buying whisky, but they are drinking less often and consuming fewer drinks on each occasion. That shift is putting pressure on higher-priced bottles, especially in mature markets, while helping more accessible products, cocktails, ready-to-drink formats and standard expressions with clear value. One of the clearest signals comes from IWSR, the drinks market research group, which said global beverage alcohol volume fell 2% in 2025, the third straight annual decline. In its comparable reading of 22 markets that account for about 75% of world volume, spirits fell 4% in volume and 9% in value. Excluding domestic spirits, the decline was just 1% in both measures. Within whisky, Indian whisky rose 2% in volume and 3% in value in 2025, while Irish whiskey increased 2% in both. That split helps explain why producers and distributors are treating 2026 as a two-speed year. India remains the main engine of growth by volume. The United States is still one of the most important pools of value for Scotch and a core market for American, Irish, Canadian and Japanese whisky. China remains important, but its role has changed as gifting and banquet-driven luxury demand no longer define the market the way they once did. Trade figures show how concentrated global whisky commerce remains. The United Kingdom continues to dominate cross-border value through Scotch. According to World Bank WITS and UN Comtrade data for HS 220830, the U.K. reported $7.02 billion in whisky exports in 2024, compared with $1.53 billion for the United States and $1.13 billion for Ireland. Japan, Canada and India form a second tier by export value. Those numbers do not reflect final consumption. India consumes huge volumes domestically through local brands. Some countries act as re-export hubs. And customs data measure shipments rather than what drinkers actually buy at retail or order in bars. Even so, the trade picture shows how strongly Scotch still shapes the international market. Scotch exports reached £5.3 billion in 2025, equal to 1.34 billion bottles of 700 milliliters, according to the Scotch Whisky Association. That was down 1.8% in value and 4.3% in volume from a year earlier. The gap between value and volume suggests that pricing and mix helped cushion weaker demand. Single malt was hit harder than blended Scotch, with single malt export value down 6%, reflecting softer luxury spending and less gifting. The United States remained Scotch’s largest export destination by value in 2025. India became its third-largest destination by value and its largest by volume. That matters because India is already the world’s biggest whisky market by consumption volume, though most of that demand is met by domestic producers. India’s total beverage alcohol market grew 4% by volume in 2025, according to IWSR data cited in the report, and whisky accounts for more than half of servings there. Imported spirits have also been growing quickly over time. But access remains uneven because taxes, licensing rules and distribution systems vary from state to state. That complexity did not stop one of the year’s biggest trade developments. On July 15, a trade agreement between Britain and India took effect, cutting India’s tariff on U.K. whisky from 150% to 75% at the start of the deal, with a path to 40% by year 10. For Scotch producers, it is one of the most important access changes of the year. Still, lower tariffs alone will not guarantee immediate gains at retail because local taxes and route-to-market costs remain significant. China also changed its tariff regime this year. On Feb. 2, it lowered its import tariff on whisky from 10% to 5%. That improves relative pricing for imported whisky, especially Scotch, which accounted for 84% of China’s whisky imports by value in 2025, when total imports reached $445.5 million. But analysts caution that lower tariffs will not restore the old luxury model on their own. The report says China’s whisky opportunity now lies more in personal consumption, smaller groups, home drinking, small formats and fast delivery than in formal banquets or expensive gifting. That means producers may need different packaging, pricing and channel strategies if they want to grow there. In the United States, another major policy shift came on April 30 when tariffs on Scotch were removed. That should help normalize shipments during the second half of the year because distribution is already established. But analysts warn that shipments can rebound faster than actual consumer demand if importers restock too aggressively. American whiskey faces a more difficult balance between supply and demand than most other categories right now. U.S. exports fell 19% to $1.08 billion in 2025, according to DISCUS, the Distilled Spirits Council of the United States. The European Union was down 35%, Canada fell 57%, and Japan dropped 28%, though exports to the rest of the world rose 13%. Some of that decline reflects front-loading in earlier periods before trade deadlines, but inventory pressure is also a structural issue. Domestic supplier sales for American whiskey held up better than exports but still slipped to $5.1 billion in 2025, down 0.9%. The report points to unusually high maturing inventory as one of the category’s biggest risks. DISCUS estimated American whiskey inventories at close to 1.5 billion proof gallons at the end of 2024, roughly three times the level seen in 2012. That does not mean all of that stock is surplus because much of it needs years of aging before release. But it does mean producers face higher capital costs and greater pressure to manage production carefully if demand stays soft or if discounting spreads. Irish whiskey stands out as one of the cleaner demand stories this year. IWSR recorded growth of 2% in both volume and value across its tracked markets in 2025, even though sales were down 3% in the United States. Growth in India, Japan and Poland helped offset weakness elsewhere. At the same time, Irish whiskey exports fell 5% to €930 million, according to Bord Bia. That apparent contradiction is not unusual in spirits because export data can diverge from consumer sales due to inventory timing, currency effects and differences between shipment data and sell-through at retail or on-premise accounts. Japanese whisky remains smaller by export volume but strong in unit value and long-term ambition. WITS data show Japan exported $288 million worth of whisky and 11.3 million liters in 2024, below earlier peaks but still significant for a premium category with limited aged stock. Producers continue to invest despite current uncertainty elsewhere in global spirits. Nikka has committed ¥7 billion to its Yoichi distillery and plans to expand storage and maturation capacity by about 30% compared with 2019 levels as it pursues longer-term growth targets through 2034. That strategy reflects confidence that Japanese whisky can keep building internationally even if short-term conditions remain uneven. Canadian whisky presents a steadier but slower picture. WITS recorded $219 million in Canadian whisky exports in 2024. At home, Statistics Canada said spirits sales fell 3.2% in fiscal year 2024-25 to C$6.7 billion, with whisky accounting for 29.6% of spirits value. The category remains important across North America but is also showing signs of moderation. Europe offers scale but mixed momentum for imported whisky. Scotch exports to the European Union fell 9% by volume in 2025 whi

AN APPLE Strudel High Ball doesn’t sound a very Irish cocktail. But it is one of the mixes recommended by Titanic Distillers of Belfast. Based on Queen’s Island in the city’s Titanic Quarter, the award-winning distillery is located in the former Pumphouse at Thompson Dock, where RMS Titanic stood for fitting out prior to her fateful voyage in 1912. The red-brick Pumphouse, with its original arched windows and distinctive clock tower that once housed engines that drained over 26 million gallons of water from Thompson Dock, has been transformed into a working whiskey distillery. It’s the first in Belfast for almost 90 years. “We are proud of bringing such an iconic building back to life,” says CEO Stephen Symington. “Every time we open the doors, we can’t help but feel the magic of the place. It’s an honour to stand where shipbuilders once stood, to remember their craft, courage and the friendships forged through blood, sweat and years!” The distillery’s 8-Year-Old Single Malt won a gold medal at the 2026 London Spirits Competition. Its 5-Year-Old Pot Still PX Finish Whiskey was voted Pot Still Whiskey of the Year. Head distiller Damien Rafferty is this year’s Craft Distiller of the Year. The distillery also makes a premium vodka and poitín. Continues Symington: “Craftsmanship is at the core of Titanic Distillers. We have created a whiskey that the people of Belfast can be proud of and have a unique brand that we are excited to now showcase to customers around the world in a modern and contemporary way. “At Titanic Distillers, we are inspired by the designers and craftspeople of the early 1900s who were bold enough to build a ship in Belfast on a scale that had never been seen before. We share that ethos of creating something iconic and bold that will hopefully become globally renowned.” Calling the shots IN THE early 1900s, Belfast was the largest producer of Irish whiskey in the world. Partition and Prohibition brought much of this production to a halt, but Titanic Distillers is now playing an active role in reinvigorating the city’s whiskey tradition. “Securing the Thompson Dock and Pumphouse was the last piece of the puzzle for us in getting Titanic Distillers off the ground. It gave us a credible home and brought the brand to life.” In 2023, Titanic Distillers began producing its first whiskey. “Back in 1911, everything would have been powered with coal or peat fires. Our first blend has smoky, peated notes as a reference to this era of Belfast’s history.” Titanic’s flagship blend won Silver at the World Whiskies Awards and Gold at the New York International Spirits Awards. “We are about to go into a global expansion journey. The USA will be one of the biggest markets for Titanic whiskey.” Someone once said that after ‘God’ and ‘Coca-Cola’, ‘Titanic’ is the most easily recognisable word in the English language. That sounds about right. A new Titanic Distillers package allows guests to experience not one, but two icons of the Titanic Quarter: Titanic Hotel Belfast, in the meticulously restored former Harland & Wolff offices, and Titanic Distillers, in the classic period architecture of the Thompson Dock Pumphouse. The package includes an overnight stay in one of the hotel’s elegant nautical-themed bedrooms, where streamlined Art Deco furnishings, ships' lanterns and maritime artwork evoke the Golden Age of ocean travel, and the distillery’s Signature Tour. A sample of its premium, award-winning Irish whiskey and artisan truffles await guests in their room, setting the tone for a truly memorable stay, blending contemporary comfort with an authentic sense of place. The tour is a fully guided experience through the visually stunning working distillery and historic Pumphouse. During the tour, guests learn how Belfast's whiskey tradition faded and has now been revived on the very spot where Titanic once dominated the skyline. Siobhan Winston, General Manager of Titanic Distillers, says: “Alongside the Titanic Hotel Belfast, we're offering an experience that feels both rooted in Belfast's past and relevant to today. At Titanic Distillers, it's about quality, authenticity and giving visitors a fresh way to engage with the city's whiskey story. We offer something that feels distinctive, social and memorable, and we look forward to welcoming guests to experience it for themselves in the heart of Belfast's Maritime Mile.” Adrian McNally, General Manager of Titanic Hotel Belfast, adds: “The Titanic Distillers Package brings together two of Belfast's greatest stories — shipbuilding and whiskey — in one unforgettable experience. Guests stay where some of the world's most famous ocean liners were designed, then step just moments away to see how Belfast's distilling tradition has been reborn in the very heart of the Titanic Quarter. It is a unique way to experience the authenticity, warmth and character that make this part of the city so special.” For more information visit www.titanicdistillers.com and www.titanicbelfast.com. West Lothian MP says removal of US tariffs on Scotch whisky is a 'big boost' 'West Lothian has a proud place in Scotland’s whisky industry' A West Lothian MP has welcomed the removal of US tariffs on Scotch whisky, describing the move as "excellent news" for the area. Livingston MP Gregor Poynton said it was a big boost for the industry as a whole, but also for the businesses and workers across the Livingston who help power its success. From Friday, July 24, Scotch whisky exports to the United States will once again be tariff-free, supporting one of Scotland’s largest export industries and helping businesses compete in one of their most valuable international markets. Livingston is home to a number of businesses that play an important role in Scotland’s world-renowned whisky industry, reports The West Lothian Courier. These include Glenmorangie’s custom-built bottling facility at Alba Campus, where its Glenmorangie and Ardbeg brands are bottled; Ian Macleod Distillers, the independent family-owned Scotch whisky producer based in Broxburn; Aceo Limited on Deans Industrial Estate, parent company of the Murray McDavid Scotch whisky brand; and the major maturation and warehousing facilities operated by The North British Distillery at nearby Addiewell. Mr Poynton said: “The UK Labour Government’s work towards the removal of US tariffs on Scotch whisky is excellent news for Scotland and for West Lothian, where the Livingston constituency plays an important role in one of our country’s greatest success stories. “West Lothian has a proud place in Scotland’s whisky industry. From internationally recognised distillers and bottling facilities to warehousing, logistics and specialist whisky businesses, companies across our area make an important contribution to one of Scotland’s biggest export success stories. “The United States is Scotch whisky’s largest export market, so removing these tariffs gives businesses greater confidence to invest, grow exports and continue supporting jobs throughout the supply chain. “This is a positive step for businesses on both sides of the Atlantic and demonstrates the value of maintaining strong trading relationships that help Scottish products reach customers around the world. “Our local businesses have built an international reputation for quality and innovation. Removing these barriers to trade will help firms across West Lothian continue growing, creating jobs and attracting investment into our communities.” The United States is the Scotch whisky industry’s most valuable export market, with exports worth £933 million in 2025. Industry leaders have said the return to tariff-free trade will provide greater certainty for investment while benefiting businesses throughout the wider supply chain, including cooperages, transport, hospitality, retail and agriculture. Mr Poynton added: “Whether it’s distilling, bottling, warehousing, logistics or specialist whisky businesses, West Lothian plays an important role in the success of one of Scotland’s biggest exports. “Today’s announcement is welcome news for local employers, for workers and their families, and for the many businesses across our constituency that benefit from a thriving Scotch whisky industry. “It’s another positive step in supporting economic growth, backing Scottish exports and creating opportunities for the future.”

For most of whisky's history, "single malt" has meant Scotland above all else. All the top names originated from that place. Whisky is essentially composed of barley, water, wood, and time. None of those components are exclusive to a single location. In the past two decades, several Indian distilleries have embraced that concept and created single malts that now compete for awards alongside Scotch. The pivotal moment occurred in August 2004, when a distillery in Bangalore took a daring step. Rather than debuting its new single malt locally, it went directly to Glasgow, the center of Scotch territory and served it to Scottish patrons in a small curry restaurant named Café India. The logic was straightforward: to launch your whisky seriously, showcase it in the most challenging environment globally. It worked. Twenty years later, that same confidence has built a whole new category of whisky, and it comes from India. One reason is climate. The heat in India accelerates whisky maturation significantly more than in the cool, moist climate of Scotland. The wood and the spirit engage rapidly, leading to significant liquid loss through evaporation annually, often three or four times greater than what a Scottish distillery would experience. That might seem like a drawback, yet it isn’t. What remains is whisky that offers more flavor and complexity than its age implies. Here are five Indian single malts bringing that concept to life: It all began with Amrut. The business started in 1948 producing common Indian spirits and only attempted a single malt in 2004 , the one introduced in Glasgow instead of its home market. Six years later, whisky reviewer Jim Murray listed it among the top three whiskies globally, prompting the whisky industry to pay attention. Composed of Indian six-row barley and occasionally mixed with peated Scottish malt, Amrut is bold spicy, and rich in flavor. Produced on the coast of Goa since 2008, is gentler and more inviting. Anticipate sweetened barley, tender fruits, and a hint of smokiness. The master blender of the distillery has stated that the heat in Goa can age whisky in four or five years, a process that would take fifteen years in Scotland. The brand currently distributes in over 40 nations and has received nearly 400 accolades, including Best Indian Single Malt at the 2026 World Whiskies Awards. Situated at the base of the Himalayas, where winters are genuine and the weather is significantly cooler compared to Goa or Bangalore. This imparts a softer, smoother character to its whisky, despite maturing approximately four times quicker than Scotch. Its Asava expression, matured in Indian wine casks, was the first single malt globally produced in this manner, and it received Best World Whisky at the 2023 John Barleycorn Awards. Hailing from Haryana, is the quickest climber in the group. The brand was established only in 2021. Only two years later, its Diwali Collector's Edition outperformed more than a hundred whiskies globally , Scotch included, to claim Best in Show at the Whiskies of the World Awards. It continued to achieve success afterward, and by 2024 had allegedly emerged as the quickest expanding single malt brand globally. Produced by Diageo in the Rajasthan deserts, takes the concept of heat to the extreme. Casks mature at temperatures exceeding 100°F, and the brand indicates that it loses approximately 10% of its whisky to evaporation annually. Since its debut in 2022, it has received 46 awards, including the title of Single Malt Whisky of the Year at the 2024 London Spirits Competition for the exclusive Godawan 100 edition.

Modi Illva 執行長:印度威士忌已不再需要蘇格蘭威士忌

Google News(Scotch/Distillery)|原題:Indian whisky doesn’t need Scotch anymore: Abhishek Modi of Modi Illva - Firstpost

If you look beyond the global giants of the Indian alcobev sector, you’ll find a bunch of midsized companies with big ambitions. Modi Illva, a 50:50 joint venture between the New Delhi-headquartered Umesh Modi Group and Italian liqueur manufacturer Illva Saronno, is among them. The company has built its reputation in the semi-premium and premium segments, but its biggest success so far has been Rockford Whisky, which sells about 2.9 million cases annually and is among India’s largest-selling premium blended whiskies. Last year, it launched Singhasan, which unlike IMFL Scotch blends, is the country’s first premium blended whisky, made from Indian malt and Indian grain spirits. Coming up next is a malt distillery and an Indian single malt. In this interview with Firstpost, managing director Abhishek Modi talks about building premium Indian brands, the future of Indian single malts, and why he believes Indian whisky no longer needs Scotch. Rockford grew from 6,000 cases in 2010-11 to nearly 3 million cases last year. What were the biggest turning points in that journey? When we launched Rockford in 2011, we positioned it as the most premium whisky in the Indian market and even priced it slightly above Antiquity Blue. We were competing with Diageo on one side and Pernod Ricard on the other, so it wasn’t an easy place to enter. But the product was well received, our strategy worked, and today Rockford is the second-largest premium blended whisky in the market after Blender’s Pride. More importantly, it established Modi Illva as a premium liquor company. Quick Reads View AllAt that time, most Indian companies were selling mass-market brands. We were among the first Indian companies to go premium. A lot of people thought it was a mistake, but it worked for us. You’re building your own malt distillery. What made you decide to make that investment? Rockford has become a very large brand. When a brand reaches that scale, you need to make sure you can control quality. We wanted consistency, and ultimately it’s important to control your own source. The second reason is Indian single malt. You cannot have a proper Indian single malt brand if you don’t have a malt distillery. If we want to enter that category, which we will, we have to build a malt plant. So the distillery is about two things: securing supplies for our existing brands and creating more premium expressions in the future. Our malt distillery is coming up in Modinagar, next to our grain distillery. Do you think India needs another Indian single malt? And with so many new distilleries coming up, will we eventually see a shake-out? There’s always room for another single malt. In fact, I think it’s just the beginning. Look at Scotland. It’s a much smaller country than India, yet there are more than 200 single malt brands. India is one of the world’s largest whisky markets, so there’s definitely room for many more. I’m also very happy the Indian Malt Whisky Association has come together. Any industry needs proper guidelines if it’s going to flourish. Scotland has them. Ireland has them… In the long run, they’ll only strengthen the category. As for a shake-out, I don’t see it happening in single malts. Categories that are small or have stopped growing see shake-outs. Gin is a good example. Too many brands came in and the category has flattened. The malt story is very different. Indians understand malt whisky much better today, and the opportunity is still huge. Singhasan competes with brands such as 100 Pipers and Black & White. What convinced you there was room for another premium whisky in that segment? Singhasan is not another premium whisky. It’s the first 100% Indian whisky competing with Scotch. The brands you’ve mentioned are all Scotch. So the question is this: if Indian consumers today are happy to buy Indian single malts, why do we still need premium blended whiskies that rely on Scotch? Fifteen or twenty years ago, there weren’t enough malt distilleries in India. That’s why Scotch became such an important part of premium whisky. Today, there are good-quality malt plants in India. In fact, Scottish companies themselves are coming here and setting up malt plants. They clearly believe Indian barley can produce high-quality malt. If India can produce good malt and good grain whisky, why do I need a whisky that requires Scotch? Looking ahead, where do you see the next phase of growth coming from? Our focus remains on building premium Indian brands. Over time, we’ll add selected imported brands to complete the portfolio and take our Indian brands to international markets. We’re also working on several premium products that we’ll introduce at the right time. Ultimately, we want to build a luxury spirits vertical. Frequently Asked Questions Will Indian single malts eventually surpass Scotch in popularity? Indian single malts are gaining global recognition and domestic popularity, with some industry figures believing they no longer need to rely on Scotch. Brands like Rockford and Amrut have seen significant growth, and Indian single malts are winning international awards. Consumers are becoming more experimental and open to exploring flavors beyond traditional whisky-producing regions. What impact will new distilleries have on the Indian whisky market? How will Modi Illva expand its premium spirits portfolio? Modi Illva plans to expand its premium spirits portfolio by developing a malt distillery and an Indian single malt. The company has already achieved success with Rockford Whisky, one of India's largest-selling premium blended whiskies, and launched Singhasan, India's first premium blended whisky made from Indian malt and grain spirits. Abhishek Modi, managing director, stated that Indian whisky no longer needs Scotch. First Published: July 25, 2026, 11:20 IST

Indian single malt is not the easiest category to walk into. If you have spent your drinking life around Scotch or bourbon, the distillery names will mean very little to you, and there is no equivalent of the regional shorthand that tells you roughly what to expect from an Islay malt or a Kentucky bourbon before you have even opened the bottle. Working out where to start is mostly guesswork unless someone points you at something. So, in the interest of helping you dip your toe into the world of Indian whisky, I have put together a personal list of the whiskies that swayed me. The five bottles below come from five different distilleries, spread from Goa’s humid coast to the edge of the Rajasthan desert, and they each showcase a different side of Indian whisky. If you’re a beginner, this is a great place to start. Indri Trini “The Three Wood,” 46%, £41 / $52 / ₹3,700 Indri Trini is the flagship expression from the brand: a rich, fruity, and approachable. There is peach and pineapple, honey, raisin, and a bit of orange zest, with some hazelnut and clove behind it and a warm, lightly spiced finish. It is made at Piccadily Distilleries in Indri, Haryana, from Indian six-row barley, and matured in three cask types: ex-bourbon, French wine, and Pedro Ximénez sherry. The three are vatted together rather than used as a sequence of finishes. Master blender Surrinder Kumar oversees the whisky and spent years at Amrut before joining Piccadily. I was given the chance to try this initially thanks to a friend posting a sample, and I pretty much immediately bought a full bottle. Nothing about it is difficult, and you do not need any prior knowledge of Indian whisky to enjoy it. It is fruit-forward, balanced, and has weight without being overwhelming. Bottled at 46%, non-chill filtered, no added color, and widely available in the UK and much of the US. Drink it neat. At this price it is super affordable, and an easy recommendation. Amrut Fusion, 50%, £56 / $75 / ₹3,050 Amrut Distilleries was founded in Bangalore in 1948, though it spent its early decades producing Indian Made Foreign Liquor rather than malt whisky. Malt distillation began in the 1980s under Neelakanta Rao Jagdale, and the single malt was launched in Glasgow in 2004, the first Indian single malt to be marketed internationally. Fusion followed a few years later and is still the bottle most people name when the category comes up. The name refers to the barley, as roughly three-quarters is unpeated Indian barley and the rest is peated Scottish malt, fermented, distilled, and matured separately before being vatted together. There is plum and dark cherry, a thread of woodsmoke running through it, then coffee, chocolate, and baking spice, with a long finish and a marmalade edge. At 50% there is some heat to it, and a drop of water will open it up if you want. If you already drink Scotch, particularly Highland or Island malts, this is the obvious place to go. The smoke is present without dominating, so it also works if you have been curious about peat but not ready to commit to Islay. Rampur Double Cask, 45%, £60 / $90 / ₹6,380 Rampur is made by Radico Khaitan at its distillery in Rampur, Uttar Pradesh, in the foothills of the Himalayas. The site dates back to 1943, making it one of the older distilleries in India. Double Cask is named for its maturation: American bourbon barrels first, then a period in European oak sherry casks. It is made from Indian six-row barley, double distilled, bottled at 45% and non-chill filtered. Of the five bottles here, this is the one that will feel most familiar. There is vanilla and stewed fruit, then raisin, plum, and a little tobacco, with butterscotch, cinnamon, and dark chocolate over a long finish. It is also the most expensive bottle on this list, so I would not necessarily start here. Once you know you like Indian single malt, though, it is a sensible second purchase, particularly if you drink sherried Scotch. Available in the UK and fairly widely in the US. Paul John Nirvana, 40%, £33 / $34 / ₹1,850 Nirvana is the entry point to the Paul John range, and the cheapest bottle on this list by some distance. It is light and honeyed, with vanilla, ripe apricot, and a faint salinity, and the finish is short and clean. The lightness is the trade-off at 40%, so treat it as an introduction rather than a destination. I tried this at a whisky festival at The Whiskey Jar in Manchester’s Northern Quarter, where brand ambassador Anees Saboowalla took me through the range and explained how the distillery works. Being talked through a whisky by someone who knows it properly is a good way to meet a category, and it is worth seeking out festivals for exactly that reason if you are starting out. John Distilleries has been making single malt in Goa since 2008, using Indian six-row barley, unpeated, matured in second and third-fill charred American oak barrels on India’s humid coast. At £33 it is the lowest-risk way to find out whether Indian single malt is for you. Drink it neat, though it is the one bottle here that will take ice or a splash of soda without falling apart. Godawan 02 “Fruit & Spice,” 46%, £65 / $81 / ₹3,200 Godawan is Diageo India’s single malt, made at the Alwar distillery in Rajasthan, and it is the most unusual bottle on this list. Series 02 is matured in cherry wood casks and finished in ex-bourbon barrels that have been conditioned with Ayurvedic botanicals, specifically Rasna and Jatamansi. Cherry wood is rarely used in whisky maturation, and botanical-treated casks and practically unheard of. The whisky itself is not as challenging as the production suggests. There is dried mango and orange on the nose, then cherry, raisin, and cinnamon with a lift of lime zest, drying out toward cocoa and oak on the finish. It is rich and sweet without being heavy. Alwar sits on the edge of the Thar desert, and the brand is named after the Great Indian Bustard, an endangered bird native to the region. Godawan reached the UK in December 2024 and is available here at around £54 to £64 depending on where you look, and in a growing number of US states. If you have worked through the other four and want something that does not resemble Scotch at all, this is where to go. So Which Bottle Should You Buy? If you are buying one bottle and you want it to be the right one, make it the Indri Trini. It is fruity, well made, easy to like, and at around £44 it is great value for money. If you would rather spend less while you work out whether the category is for you, the Paul John Nirvana is £33 and will tell you a lot for the money. Scotch drinkers should go to the Amrut Fusion, or the Rampur Double Cask if you prefer sherried whisky. Bourbon drinkers will find the Nirvana familiar, with the Rampur as the next step up. And if you want something genuinely different, the Godawan 02 is the one. Have you tried any of these whiskies? Are there any you are tempted by? And if you have found Indian single malts that deserve a place on this list, let me know in the comments.

Ardnamurchan Paul Launois 威士忌評測:五年時光見證年輕酒廠的成長故事

Google News(Scotch/Distillery)|原題:Ardnamurchan Paul Launois: Two Releases, Five Years Apart, Tasted - The Whiskey Wash

This is a review I have wanted to do for a very long time, and I was simply waiting for the right moment to do it justice. In front of me sit two bottles that bookend a remarkable little chapter in Ardnamurchan’s story: the very first release of the Ardnamurchan Paul Launois and the newest, the 2026 edition. Tasting them side by side felt like the only honest way to see how far this fascinating young distillery has travelled. Before diving into the liquid, a quick word on the myth. Everyone insists these are champagne casks, but that is not technically true. The wine that filled these barrels at the Paul Launois vineyard was Chardonnay, the wine that would eventually go on to become champagne. Champagne itself, being carbonated, cannot be aged in wood at all. What we are actually dealing with are French oak barrels from a producer whose grapes are destined for something rather glamorous. Both whiskies are natural colour, unchill-filtered, and built entirely from unpeated stock, arriving at almost identical strengths of 57.6 and 57.4%. The original release is pure fun in a glass. It bursts with orchard fruits, blossom, and that old pick and mix sweet shop character. I could not decide whether I was smelling lemon or cherry sherbet, and I even caught a watermelon note, which I am fairly sure I have never encountered in a Scotch whisky before. The palate is huge, lemony and floral, tumbling through a warming ginger beer fizz into herbaceous, almost meaty territory of rosemary and sage before finishing minty and piney. Genuinely unusual, genuinely enjoyable. The 2026 release shares that lemon backbone but pushes everything further and, crucially, drier. So much drier. There is heather honey, marshmallow, caramelised sugar, and then a wave of pencil shavings and woodiness that speaks to older, more mature stock, some of it perhaps eleven or twelve years old. Anise, fennel, and a green chartreuse herbal quality dance across the finish alongside that familiar pinch of ginger. It is a proper experience, complex and challenging in the best possible way. Scoring them was genuinely difficult. The newest release is astonishingly dry, rivalling the legendary Kavalan Vinho Barrique, and that alone makes it worth seeking out. Yet the original, sweeter and more welcoming with its enormous finish, just edges ahead for me. Signup now to make sure you don't miss out on the latest whiskey news and deals. Both are wonderful, and both are exactly what I associate with Ardnamurchan in a heartbeat: complex, interesting, and endlessly rewarding. Cardhu 12 Year Old:溫和雅緻的斯佩賽威士忌,優雅外觀下蘊含動人故事

Google News(Scotch/Distillery)|原題:Raise the flag: this gentle Speyside delivers exactly what you hope for, yet still surprises you - Whisky Monkeys

Some whisky bottles barely register, while others grab your attention before you even know what’s inside. Cardhu 12 Year Old is firmly in the latter camp, with striking packaging and an even more elegant bottle. And when you see the price tag, it’s a no-brainer. Time to put this Speyside gem in the spotlight. The broad bottle, warm colors, and the woman with the flag give this Speyside single malt a look you won’t soon forget. It’s a bottle that often ends up as a gift, precisely because everything about it feels familiar and well put-together. But how important is that packaging, really? Would Cardhu 12 be just as appealing without that distinctive bottle and compelling story? Today we’re taking a closer look at both the bottle and the whisky. Single malt with a stylish presence You can spot Cardhu 12 instantly. The bottle is broad, rounded, almost decanter-like. It gives it a different presence than many standard bottles in the same price range. The box adds to the effect. The reddish-brown tone feels refined, while the gold lettering and the silhouette on the front make the whisky look polished without tipping into over-the-top luxury. Still, the most interesting detail isn’t the shape of the bottle. It’s the woman with the flag. At first glance you might think she’s a goddess, a queen, or a mythical Scottish heroine. In reality, the figure points to someone of immense historical importance to the distillery: Helen Cumming. A whisky bottle with a clever, iconic warning In 1811, Helen Cumming and her husband John began illicit whisky distilling on the Cardhu farm. That wasn’t all that unusual at the time. Many farmers made spirits without a license and without paying taxes. Cardhu Farm was simply the next to do so—but the way the Cummings went about it made their story unique. According to the tale, Helen knew exactly how to handle the excisemen. When they stopped by, she invited them in and pretended the aromas from fermentation were simply bread baking in the oven. Meanwhile, she warned other local distillers with a red flag, giving them time to stash their stills and whisky out of sight. The small silhouette of the lady with a flag on the packaging is a clear nod to that warning signal. By women for women (men are welcome to taste, too) Helen Cumming wasn’t the only woman to play a major role in Cardhu’s history. In 1824 the distillery obtained an official license. Later, the business came under the leadership of Elizabeth Cumming, Helen’s daughter-in-law. After her husband Lewis passed away in 1872, Elizabeth kept the distillery running. Under her leadership, Cardhu grew and expanded its production. In 1893 she sold the distillery to John Walker & Sons, the company behind Johnnie Walker, ensuring the family remained involved. Cardhu then took on an important role within Johnnie Walker’s blends. The distillery’s gentle, fruity style fit the character the brand was seeking. So the story on the packaging isn’t an afterthought. It’s woven deep into the distillery’s history. What Cardhu 12 Year Old tastes like Cardhu 12 is a gentle, approachable Speyside single malt. Don’t expect heavy smoke, brooding sherry notes, or a whisky that knocks you back on the first sip. Its profile revolves around fruit, honey, malt, and light spice. Full tasting notes below: - Nose: Soft fruit, honey, malt, and a touch of florality. - Palate: Sweet and creamy, with honey, grain, nuts, and gentle spices. - Finish: Smooth, lightly spiced, and not especially long. Above all, Cardhu 12 is smooth and easygoing in character. That makes it ideal for new whisky drinkers, and for those moments when you just want an easygoing dram without turning it into a full-on study. For fans of heavy peat smoke, cask strength, or bold sherry influence, this Scotch might feel a touch tame, but boring it is not. Is Cardhu 12 worth it? Cardhu 12 isn’t the whisky that will have seasoned enthusiasts falling out of their chairs, but it’s definitely not dull. If you’re after a soft Speyside single malt with fruit, honey, and gentle spice, it delivers exactly what you expect. The whisky is approachable, dependable, and easy to drink. Add to that one of the stronger origin stories on the shelf. The woman with the flag isn’t just a pretty logo: it’s a nod to the distillery’s illicit past. It’s not only something to daydream about over a dram, it’s also a reminder. Women have been incredibly important to the whisky world for generations. This bottle, which you can bring home for a modest outlay, proves that point beautifully. FAQ - Is Cardhu 12 suitable for beginners? Yes. It’s soft, fruity, and lightly sweet. There’s hardly any smoke, and the alcohol level isn’t overpowering. - Who is the woman on the Cardhu packaging? The woman represents Helen Cumming. According to the story, she warned other illicit distillers with a red flag whenever the excisemen were nearby. - Is Cardhu 12 smoky? Barely. There can be a faint whiff of smoke, but fruit and honey clearly take the lead.

印度單一麥芽威士忌正在改寫敘事:不再只是「非蘇格蘭威士忌」

Google News(Scotch/Distillery)|原題:How Local Whisky Stories Are Proving Indian Single Malts Are More Than Just "Not Scotch" - slurrp.com

There's a moment at every good whisky tasting when the room goes quiet. At A Salute to the Royal Heritage - an evening hosted by Rampur Distillery against a backdrop borrowed from the royal courts of Uttar Pradesh- that moment arrived somewhere between the Double Cask and the newly unveiled Rampur 1943 Virasat, the distillery's most prestigious expression yet, marking over eight decades of distilling history. Guests leaned in over a menu built around the culinary traditions of the Nawabs, and for a few sips, nobody in the room was thinking about Scotland at all. That, in a glass, is where Indian single malt whisky finds itself in 2026. No longer shying away from being a cocktail spirit or trying to 'out-Scotch' Scotch, but building something that only makes sense here. The Basics: What Is A Single Malt? If whisky talk usually makes your eyes glaze over somewhere around "cask strength," here's the short version. A blended whisky is usually at least one grain and one malt whisky married together by a blender to hit a consistent house style. Think of it as an assembled sound, several instruments layered to make one song. A single malt, on the other hand, comes from one distillery, made entirely from malted barley. Nothing is borrowed in from elsewhere. What you're tasting is that distillery's particular fingerprint, its stills, its water, its house character, undiluted by anyone else's recipe. It's a smaller, more personal category, which is exactly why it's become the stage on which India's whisky story is now being told. The Recognition Is Real. The Reach? Maybe Not Ask whisky educator, founder of the Single Malt Amateur Club and industry expert Hemanth Rao, where India stands today, and he doesn't hesitate to say that the world has noticed. "The great trailblazers have been Amrut, Paul John, Rampur and Piccadilly, the big four so to say," he says, "and Godawan has joined it recently, in terms of building that footprint of Indian whisky in that single malt segment." A newer wave of labels is filling out the shelf behind them, widening what "Indian single malt" can even mean. But recognition inside the whisky world isn't the same as recognition outside it. "If you look at the broader community, consumers who are not passionate about whisky, that recognition of Indian whisky as a segment is still not there," Rao points out. "Maybe an Amrut, maybe a Paul John, but not to the extent where they recognise Scotch, Irish, Bourbon from the US." He puts it in perspective with a timeline. Scotch and Irish whisky have had centuries to build their reputations; Japan took roughly a hundred years to be taken seriously as a whisky-producing nation. India's own single malt story had a timeline in the early 1950's to late 60's and a resurgence around 25 years ago, when Amrut made its first international mark. Rao emphasises that, in comparison, our timeline is very, very short, which makes the ground already covered look rather more impressive than it first appears. The Great Terroir Debacle Ask any wine drinker, and they'll tell you terroir, the idea that soil, climate and geography shape flavour, is gospel. Whisky brands, keen to borrow a bit of that romance, have started reaching for the same language - this whisky tastes of these mountains, that whisky of that coastline. But what does that mean to a casual or commercial audience? Rao isn't convinced the word earns its keep in whisky anymore. "The entire premise of terroir comes when you're using ingredients and a process which is unique to a certain place," he explains. "But today, the barley is coming from somewhere else, a common source that everyone buys from. Everyone's using pretty much the same distillation process, the same yeast strains, the same oak." Strip all that away, he argues, and there isn't much left for geography to claim credit for, bar one genuine exception - maturation. A cask ageing through Kerala's tropical humidity will behave very differently to one resting through a Kashmiri winter, and that much is real. Instead, Rao borrows a phrase from whisky writer Dave Broom, author of The World Atlas of Whisky, saying that the more apt description is "a sense of place", a term coined in his other book, 'A Sense of Place: A Journey Around Scotland’s Whisky'. It's a subtler idea, that what actually separates one whisky from another isn't the ground it sits on so much as the people making it, their instincts, their choices, the little bits of themselves they fold into the process. His favourite proof of this lives in Scotland, oddly enough where Ardbeg, Lagavulin and Laphroaig sit barely half a kilometre apart on Islay, drawing from more or less the same landscape, yet nobody would ever mistake one for another. "What's making that change?" Rao posits. "I think that is more relevant today in the whisky industry rather than terroir." The True Indian Identity Is Not In The Distilling If geography's influence is modest, cask experimentation is where Indian distilleries are genuinely making their mark, and it's here that Rampur's approach comes into its own. Rao is careful to draw a line between the two. "Cask is an engineered influence. The way that you mature the whisky can either hide, enhance or supplement your distillery character. That's cask influence, and it's got little to do with terroir." Rampur's range makes the point neatly. Whether it's the Double Cask, the sherry-driven Asava, or newer expressions finished in Cabernet Sauvignon and Port wine barrels, the ambition isn't to chase a different location with every bottle; it's to keep a consistent distillery character running underneath, then let the cask add its own layer on top. "When I taste a Rampur Double Cask or a Double Cask, there should be some identifiable character that I get from both, though the casks have been very different," Rao says. "They want to showcase their core, the pillar, the platform on which they build the whisky, ehich is called the distillate character of a whisky." Though maybe not as flashy as a narrative about native ingredients, it's a distinction that matters. It’s not a case of "this cask makes us Indian," it's "this cask lets our Indian character speak a little louder." What’s In A Whisky Name? Perhaps the clearest sign of the industry's confidence is sitting right there on the label. For decades, Indian whiskies borrowed Scotch-sounding names, a quiet apology for where they came from. Rao doesn't mince words about it, "Can you think of any whisky that did not sound like a Scotch whisky? It was all geared to sound more like Scotch, even if it wasn't." That's changed. Rampur's own portfolio, Asava, Virasat, sits alongside names like Indri and Godawan that make no attempt to sound like anything other than what they are. "This is a fantastic thing for Indian whisky history," Rao says. "No longer are we trying to replicate. Each one brings its own thing." He does add a note of caution: lean too hard into unfamiliar names and international drinkers may hesitate to ask for something they can't pronounce, so the trick, in his view, is keeping the Indian identity confident without making it a barrier. It's a needle Rampur's naming has threaded rather well, heritage-rich, unmistakably Indian, but never a mouthful. Why Indian Whisky Sales Speak For Themselves We’ve all probably seen the headlines. Indian single malts outselling Scotch. Sounds like a win, but Rao delivers a useful reality check. "The statistics don't take into consideration how many imports came in from Scotland over the last two or three years," he explains. Import duties kept a long list of international labels off Indian shelves altogether, brands quite simply weren't there to compete. With duties easing from mid-July, he expects the gap to close fast. "Scotch will potentially overtake Indian single malts in the sales numbers next year, because now the prices may be lower." The takeaway isn't that Indian whisky's momentum is fake, it's that the real t

Bunnahabhain is releasing a new, limited-edition single malt whisky in the US If you're a fan of single malt Scotch whisky, there's one thing you know for sure. Whiskies from Islay are smoky and peated, right? Well, that's right and wrong. Generally, single malt whiskies produced on the beloved sheep-filled Inner Hebrides island are made with peat-smoked barley, but not all. While some distilleries carry unpeated single malts, Bunnahabhain specifically crafts unpeated whiskies. And recently, this popular brand announced the release of a new, limited-edition expression. Bunnahabhain An Cuan Garbh No.1 The newest release from the distillery's Westering Home Collection, Bunnahabhain An Cuan Garbh No.1 is a 15-year-old single malt Scotch whisky finished in White Port casks sourced from Portugal's Douro Valley. The name translates to "The Rough Sea" and was created as an "exploration of movement and anticipation", according to the brand. The second release in the Westering Home Collection, this limited-edition expression is a continuation of the brand's three-year series of unique, creative whiskies. According to Bunnahabhain, the result is a 103.2-proof, multi-layered, memorable whisky that begins with aromas of honeysuckle, elderflower, orchard fruit, candied citrus, and soft coastal air. Sipping it reveals notes of peach, apricot, candied lemon zest, toasted malt, honeyed almonds, and gentle spice. The finish is long, warm, and ends with a mix of fruity sweetness and salty ocean brine. Sip it neat, on the rocks, or with a splash or two of water to open up the aromas and flavors. "Each release in the Westering Home Collection captures a different stage of the journey across and around Islay," Julieann Fernandez, Master Blender at Bunnahabhain Distillery, says. "With An Cuan Garbh No.1, we focused on contrast and movement, the unpredictability of the sea against the steady evolution of maturation. The White Port casks add fruit and softness, while the whisky remains grounded in Bunnahabhain's coastal style." Where can I buy it? Bunnahabhain Westering Home: An Cuan Garbh No.1 will be available in limited quantities at select whisky retailers throughout the US beginning this month for the suggested retail price of $204.99 for a 750ml bottle. SPONSORED: Duncan Taylor Scotch Whisky supporting Huntly by investing in community’s future Duncan Taylor Scotch Whisky has been proud to call Huntly home for many years. As a local business rooted in the town, we are deeply committed not only to producing exceptional Scotch whisky but also to supporting the people, organisations and businesses that make Huntly such a special place to live and work. Our presence in Huntly extends beyond our whisky warehouses and bottling hall headquarters. As part of our wider corporate umbrella, we are proud to operate The Bank Restaurant in the town square and The Spirits Embassy, both of which support local employment and help attract visitors to Huntly from across the UK and beyond. The Bank Restaurant is currently managed by two locals, Elizabeth Deadman and Katlyn Leggat. Both began their careers in hospitality with us, and we are delighted that their dedication and hard work have led them to jointly manage The Bank Restaurant today. Their fresh ideas and strong understanding of the local community ensure that the restaurant continues to evolve, offering experiences, menus and events that reflect the tastes and demands of the area. The Spirits Embassy is continuing to grow and is relocating to a larger premises in the heart of the square, in the former TSB Bank building. This new location will feature a whisky boutique on the ground floor and a Whisky Academy on the first floor, designed to support and grow whisky tourism in the area. The current shop will then be repurposed as a base for The Spirits Embassy’s expanding online business. A major focus of our ongoing investment in the town is the renovation of the Castle Hotel. Following the completion of the architectural planning phase, we are now preparing to restart construction in the summer of 2026, with the aim of creating a high-quality destination that will benefit local tourism, hospitality and the wider economy. In addition, we are proud to support Huntly Golf Club as a corporate sponsor. We are actively working with the club to improve facilities and enhance the experience for members, while also creating opportunities to welcome Duncan Taylor VIP visitors to the area, helping to showcase Huntly on an international stage. We firmly believe that successful businesses have a responsibility to give back to the communities in which they operate. Our continued investment reflects our long-term confidence in Huntly and our desire to play a positive role in its future growth and prosperity. We look forward to continuing to work alongside local residents, businesses and organisations to ensure that Huntly remains a vibrant and thriving town for generations to come.

We Ranked 6 Summer Whisky Cocktails—Here's The Winner I'll be honest: I'm not much of a drinker. I'm far more likely to order pineapple juice than a cocktail. But as a longtime Beyoncé fan, I couldn't pass up the chance to try her new SirDavis Whisky Lemonade Kit. The $99 whisky kit arrived in a sleek, sophisticated packaging that felt super luxe. The black magnetic box comes adorned with the SirDavis horse logo. IMO, it looks and feels expensive and, dare I say, sacred (no pun intended). Inside the kit are all the fixings needed to make the drink: a 375 mL bottle of SirDavis American Whisky, a 16 oz bottle of organic lemonade, a 2 oz bottle of honey syrup, a bag of dehydrated lemon wheels, and a recipe card. For funsies, the kit also includes a SirDavis medallion horse pin and a note from the company itself. Now, let's get to the real reason why you're here: the booze! We dove in with the "Whisky Lemonade" cocktail, inspired by Beyoncé's critically acclaimed 2016 album, Lemonade. The ingredients called for 2 oz of SirDavis American Whisky, 4 oz of lemonade... ...and .50 oz of honey syrup. Related: "Your Facebook Marketplace Food Choices Will Reveal Your Destiny" Luckily for us, the kit included crisp lemon slices, which we also used for the garnish. At last, it was time for the taste test. As you can see below, I was taking my role as a whisky connoisseur very, very seriously 😅. My thoughts on the Whisky Lemonade cocktail: James' thoughts on the Whisky Lemonade cocktail: Since we already had the whisky out, we figured we'd try SirDavis's "Davis Old Fashioned" recipe for a comparison. If you're wondering where the name SirDavis comes from, it's a nod to Beyoncé's paternal great-grandfather, Davis Hogue. He was a farmer and moonshiner during Prohibition who reportedly hid whisky bottles in cedar trees. The brand added "Sir" as a tribute to him. The ingredients for his namesake drink called for 2 oz of SirDavis American Whisky... ...2 dashes of Angostura bitters... ...and 0.25 oz of honey syrup. Overall, it was a pretty quick and easy drink to make. Related: "Plan A 12-Course Dinner Party And We'll Expose Your Exact Personality Type" James' thoughts on the Davis Old Fashioned cocktail: My thoughts on the Davis Old Fashioned cocktail: By this point, James and I were invested. We decided to up the ante and taste-test a few more of the summery cocktails featured on SirDavis' website. Encouraged by our initial experience, we jumped back in a few days later, starting with the "Watermelon Mint Lemonade" cocktail to see what would happen when we added fresh fruits to the mix. Here's bartender James, back in the kitchen, whipping up the drink for us: The recipe for this one combined 2 oz of SirDavis American Whisky, 3 oz of watermelon juice, and 5 oz of lemonade. We garnished with a watermelon wedge and a mint leaf. Here's the money shot: My thoughts on the Watermelon Mint Lemonade cocktail: James' thoughts on the Watermelon Mint Lemonade cocktail: Related: "This Quiz Determines If You Deserve To Be In The Kitchen" We kept the party going by making the "Peach Arnold Palmer" cocktail next. The drink combines 2 oz of SirDavis American Whisky with 3 oz of peach tea (we used Lipton) and 3 oz of lemonade. Per the recipe, we garnished it with juicy peach slices and mint. Then it was time to pour and serve our concoction. James' thoughts on the Peach Arnold Palmer cocktail: My thoughts on the Peach Arnold Palmer cocktail: We then moved on to the "Texas Buckiin'" cocktail recipe, the drink James had been looking forward to the most. Starting with 1.50 oz of SirDavis American Whisky, we added 0.25 oz of lemon juice, 4 oz of ginger beer, and 0.25 oz of honey syrup. The recipe instructed us to use lemons for garnish. Here it is, ready to be served! My thoughts on the Texas Buckiin' cocktail: James' thoughts on the Texas Buckiin' cocktail: Related: "Rate These Basic Foods To Discover How Adventurous Your Taste Buds Are" Selfishly, I chose to end our taste test with the "Strawberry Basil Lemonade" drink because strawberries are my absolute favorite. As per the recipe, James sliced up 3 fresh strawberries and muddled them to release their sweet flavor. He also set a few pieces aside for later use as garnish. This cocktail also called for 2 basil leaves and, yes, more lemonade. 6 oz of it this time around. After adding 2 oz of SirDavis American Whisky, our drink was complete... ...and ready to be sipped! James' thoughts on the Strawberry Basil Lemonade cocktail: My thoughts on the Strawberry Basil Lemonade cocktail: Our rapid-fire verdict: Final scorecard: Editor's note:BuzzFeed received the SirDavis Whisky Lemonade Kit free of charge. We were under no obligation to provide a positive review, and all opinions expressed are our own. We also purchased all of the fresh fruit and fruit juices that were not included in the kit.
